Not sure what happened with my review so here is another one. These guys are great. I had been having problems with my ignition key for my old 98 Toyota Tacoma. I could not turn the key consistently in the ignition but the door lock would work. These guys took a look on a Saturday morning and figured it was a bad pin or two in the ignition lock set. They estimated $95 and got it done in about 90 minutes. They showed me the bad pins they replaced and then cut me some new keys off of the extras I had. Works like a charm. I was surprised how many people were coming in for combo-electronic car keys (they have most). I was pleasantly surprised that they would not make a new key for someone if they could not prove they owned the car. read more

These guys are absolutely awesome. I came in with a door lock that was sticking. I spoke with a gentleman from Ireland. I asked if he could fix it. He took it to the back, stamped out a new key. He then told me he wasn't able to repair it, but he did tell me how to make it work when it was stuck. My only other option was to buy a new deadbolt lock. He never charged me for the key or his time. The best customer service ever. They greet you and try to help you as soon as you walk in. Also I noticed they have chip keys for your car that look like the keys that came with your car. Ford, Mercedes, etc. I highly recommend this place f you need any kind of keys or lock service. I had a problem with the door coming in from my garage. Called AMPM Locksmith because of the positive ratings, and could not be happier! Firstly, I was impressed with how quickly they arrived (within the hour after I made the call) and solved the problem/ The locksmith that came out to help also, unfortunately, accidentally hurt himself in the process. However, despite some bleeding, he continued to be very patient and professional, calmly saying "I think this might be the first time I ever hurt myself on a job..." Professionalism aside, what was just as impressive was that after they had fixed the door, the locksmith then spent additional time trying to figure out why the doorknob would break the way it did; took time in helping to re-align the hardware so that the chances of this happening again would be minimal (they even took time to explain to me why the doorknob should not have broken the way it did, what likely caused it in terms of misalignment of the catch when the builder made the initial installation.) I had an interior door get locked that I didn't have a key to in my office. I was not in a rush. Called these guys and they quoted me $140 to open the lock, which seemed high, but what do I know about locks. They told me they were on their way (10 minute drive from their office to my place) and showed up an hour later. Texted them my address but still got a call clarifying the number on my building. Got in, fiddled with the lock for about 15 minutes and got it opened. So, poor communication, high price, but got the job done, so what's there to complain about? read more

The worst. I took them in a broken (but otherwise working) car key and asked them to just put it in a new shell which I have had done before. They spent a hour trying to figure out how to do it that concluded with them handing me a non working key and telling me "you need to take it to a mechanic and you need to pay for the key we made". I explained that what I wanted was an actual working key that would start the car. Their response was "we cut the key so it's not our problem". Um no... Avoid at all cost. read more

I can't say enough about this company. They recently spent quite a bit of time with a difficult replacement key for my Toyota MR2 Spyder (apparently 2000 was the year Toyota implemented a different key / computer system in the MR2). They also saved me a lot of money by coming to my house vs. me towing it to a dealer. There were complications with the computer system and they definitely went the extra mile to get the job done. The owner and staff are very friendly. This is the only locksmith I will use in this area (hopefully I never have to replace my original key again though!) Highly recommended. read more

Been here before knew better, but thought I would give it a try out of convenience. Last year bought a key and programming from them for a 2003 vw Gti took four different trips to their location to get the task completed. Then today I stopped in to get some more keys cut for a second 2003 vw Gti. I showed the girl at the counter the two new keys that I needed cut she asked if I needed programmed I said no I will program myself. She then quoted 45.00. Keys were cut then time to pay the bill she requested 90.00 that double the price I chuckled and paid the bill. I advise to stay clear of this place. Tried it twice even though I knew better. I won't be back. Enjoy the extra 45 buck consider it a severance package. read more

I have had two great experiences with AMPM! My last one I will share because it was over the top incredible service on short notice. In short... the changing of my suddenly broken front door lock. My future son in law was trying to get in when the problem began and he had to be at a wedding in a few hours. I was in North Carolina! Cut through a very short amount of time and our guy from AMPM is there and changing out a very old complete locking system. Wow! All paid for by phone and handled with skill and speed. Forewarning, I would not purchase a Lexus car key from this guy. I purchased two keys, and he told me they were just like Lexus' keys, but way cheaper. Well, they were cheaper, but my first one broke after three months. I went to talk to the owner about it and he said that there was nothing he could do about it. I had one key left, so offered to make me a spare key (without the computer chip in it), BUT it won't start the car, it can only open the doors. Why would I want a key that can't start my car?? He charged me another $45 dollars, and wouldn't give me my money back. So, now I am down to one key, and that key, for some reason, has given me problems with opening my rear doors. read more

Very nice gentleman helped me. I wanted to get decorative keys, but he explained my key was longer than the usual key and therefore he didn't have any decorative keys that would work for me. We called yesterday because we need our business office door open as the keys were locked inside. We were quoted 160 firmly to unlock the door. In 30 minutes a gentleman showed up and began to work at it. After about 30 minutes it became apparent he did not have the tools needed to open the door. He informed us of the inability of being able to open it due to his lack of tools, and he was calling his manager to come with his miriad of tools to open the door. 40 minutes go by and his manager shows up, spends about 10-15 minutes and opens the door successfully. When it comes time to pay we are informed that they needed specific tools and because of the two-man job, we were now responsible for a 300 dollar bill. After explaining that failure to prepare was preparing to fail and that we were not responsible for the lack of tools the initial associate had they still charged us 220 because another person had to come out. Honestly, it's horrible due to the fact that if we had gotten the manager, in the beginning, we may not have had to pay the 220 and had stuck to the original 160 that was firmly quoted. If people are going to continue doing business with you I would make sure that it is understood that the estimate could go up due to these conditions mentioned here, otherwise I would refrain from saying "It will be 160 to open your door. We will be there in 20-30 minutes." This isn't a way to do business, and as a business owner, I found this completely manipulative and underhanded. read more

Had to get news key fobs for my Chrysler 300. Called am pm locksmith and they were very helpful and gave a great price on 2 key fobs. Went to the San Ramon location took about 25 min. And the guy there I didn't get his name was very efficient and answered all my questions. Definitely the best price around and I called a few places! read more

Came by today to get a blank key I got from a car remote website cut and programmed. Took a bit longer than expected since the key I bought from the website wasn't programming. *tip:don't buy refurbished key remotes* all in all, I paid less than half what the dealer quoted me for a replacement car remote for my 2016 corolla. I appreciate the amount of time they took to get the key to work perfectly, I highly recommend this place if you need replacement remotes! read more

Called them at 8AM on a Sunday morning for a home lockout. They answered the phone and had a locksmith at my home within 30 minutes. We found out that we have a KwikSet lock, which required the key plug to be drilled out. Locksmith had us in the home after 5 minutes. He offered to help with the new lock and re-key at his office if necessary. Great experience. If I ever get locked out of a KwikSet in the future, I know to just drill it out myself. read more

I lost a key to a rooftop Yakima car rack. Two of the locks were locked, two were open, and I was able to extract the "core" tumbler, and had a Yakima key, but it wouldn't turn the lock. They took the tumbler and key, and modified it so it would open the other cores, in less than 10 minutes. I could have ordered a spare from Yakima\Amazon, but they got it done immediately, and for about the same price. read more

I have never been to the Shop in San Ramon. I have not met anyone that works there. I had a bog problem though and they fixed it without blinking an eye. I own a 2001 VW Passat and I bought it without a remote key fob. If anyone doesn't know how much the dealer charges for one of these it is $115 for the folding key, $125 for the transmitter and $64 to program it. That is $304 just for a remote key! I was not going to pay that so I went on Ebay and purchased the key and transmitter separately. What I did not know was they come in two different shapes in 2001 and I purchased the wrong transmitter. HERE IS THE GOOD PART. I contacted AMPM Locksmith through one of their ads on EBAY. I explained to them what I had done wrong and they sent me a simple email; "No problem, send us the key and transmitter and we will send you what you need." Well I was a bit skeptical because I had about $100 in the transmitter and key, but I sent it to them last Monday hoping for the best. I received the correct key and transmitter yesterday (Monday, one week after sending them the wrong parts). I programmed it 5 minutes after receiving it and it works PERFECT!
