For a city that is so centrally land locked, this has some of the best sushi in the cities for the price! We balled out on some Saki and nigiri but if not for that, our entire bill would've been like $50 for 2 people to leave completely full! The place is quite small and seems a little cramped but once you sit down, you don't even notice it. The interior dining area is a bit tiny but the sushi and food is incredibly good while also being not too expensive (especially considering it's in Edina). The lunch specials are amazing. I had the chicken katsu lunch box and my wife had three sushi rolls. Due to it all being part of the lunch special it was less than $30! We have paid way more for way lower quality sushi. We waited ~15 minutes for a table on a Tuesday evening. The dining room is pretty small and it was a popular place! There are 3 tables on the sidewalk outside as well. The inside was pretty and had cool decorations. The location in Edina is prime, and there's a big parking garage across from AMA for east parking. We tried the sushi bucket and I was a little disappointed you couldn't choose anything in it. You get two chefs choice specialty rolls and they gave us tempura crab for both. They were ok, but if you want anything specific it's definitely best to order separately. The sashimi and nigiri was very fresh and good on it though! It's a lot of sushi for $40. read more

I have come to AMA and Momo Sushi so many times and today was the worst experience I've had at a restaurant in a long time. They refused to sit until our last person was here and continued to refuse after being told that the last person was a minute away and I needed to sit because of a recent hip surgery while there were 3 four tops and 2 two tops sitting empty. The manager was unnecessarily unreasonable. Next time we will take our business to momo sushi and avoid the unreasonable staff at AMA. Big thumbs down for them. read more

This is such a gem! This was my first time indulging in sushi and everything was fantastic! Ambience: Beautiful decor. It is a little bit tight so you may need to wait a little bit to get seated. We sat at the bar area (not really a bar, just closest to the kitchen) and we got to see all of the action and even got a complimentary roll. Service: They waitress was really kind. I highly recommend looking at the menu before getting there as they do give you time, but they take your order all at once so it's best to be semi- prepared. Food: Quality food at a great price! It was very affordable and the quality was top tier. My favorite was the beauty and the beast and the Tibet mountain rolls. I also really enjoyed the sake flight 1, the red one was my favorite. Decent prices but quality matches the price. The sashimi was really soft and mushy and quite fishy. We got the sushi bucket and shared between three people along with two appetizers and it was quite filling. The quality of fish just wasn't the greatest. The fried rolls were pretty good. This restaurant was a great find in Edina for sushi! It was recommended for a girls night and we had a blast! Although it was a smaller place, the atmosphere was cozy and traditional feeling! We came on a Sunday evening for dinner, and without a reservation we were seated right away. The service took a little bit to get, but we were also waiting for one and it seemed like they were waiting for our whole party to arrive before serving us, which was ok for us! We shared a total of 6 rolls of sushi, all of which were incredibly delicious! My favorite was the rainbow dragon roll. I love shrimp tempura anything and this roll was loaded with it! The toppings were fresh and piled high! We also shared the momo roll, which was a newer taste for me. But the seaweed salad on top was so fresh and salty without tasting like the ocean. It rounded out the flavors so well of everything else in the roll! The November roll was also great, but was SPICY! If you're not a spice lover, I'd maybe stray away from this one. But I loved it! The soy paper it's wrapped in was also new to me, but I couldn't really taste it with all the other ingredients in it. So glad to come here again and finally try the bucket! I love that it was the perfect amount for me and my fiancé. We started off with their soup which was very welcomed after how cold it was outside. The sashimi and all the rolls we got were excellent quality. I was blown away at the fact that one of the rolls was deep fried. The bucket includes : 5 pieces of sushi , 9 pieces of sashimi and California roll, and 2 of Chefs Special rolls $40. 95+ Service was fantastic and warm also was shocked that people remembered us and were happy to see us. The place as usual was packed but when we walked in there was a table available right away. I had to use the bathroom this time and that is located in the back side. It was clean and it's only 1 bathroom so keep that in mind. I've figured that I don't have luck finding parking on the street so we tend to park now in the parking ramp and cross the street in between the restaurant Salut and Edina Grill. There's a reason why this is our go to spot for date nights, lunch with the gals, and out of town guests!! The sushi here is our favorite, and the staff is always so welcoming (even during lunch and dinner rush hours). We tend to go during lunch time since they offer lunch specials, but regardless of the time, their prices are affordable. I highly recommend this spot for anyone who enjoys eating sushi, and for those who don't, their Chicken Fried Rice is the best one (our non-sushi lover friends rave about it). This is my absolute favorite sushi spot in Minnesota! I go there weekly and always get the same nigiri. The staff is very welcoming, and the fish is fresh, high quality, and reasonably priced. AMA is owned by the same people who own Momo so if you love Momo, you'll love AMA! The fish is always fresh and everything is very reasonable priced. I love the combo meals, especially the spicy maki combo, and the fried banana rolls. Sashimi is also fresh, and of course, have to get some Momos, or Tibetan dumplings, when you are there. Service can be a lil slower since they can get pretty busy but staff is generally communicative. It is a smaller space, about the same size as Momo, but there's free ramp parking nearby and some street parking. The restaurant itself is well lit, although the tables can be close to each other, and it appears that you can call in to reserve for larger groups. Overall, I would recommend AMA and as someone who is bad at parallel parking, I am so glad that I have a more accessible spot to go for my sushi and Momos! read more

I've been here a few times now and I think the sushi is excellent (especially for the price). On one visit, I had a misunderstanding of my order with the server, but it was rectified and at my next visit, they even acknowledged it again. The servers are very friendly and the food is high quality, delicious, and usually pretty quick. The lunch specials are great if you can take advantage of that. My favorite rolls are the Beauty and the Beast and the Rainbow Dragon. As others have mentioned, the space is small. It would be difficult to go with more than 4 people. Both times I've come to AMA have been absolutely delicious. The staff are super nice and attentive. Even if you have a little wait it will be faster than you expect. Good rolls, less than desirable sashimi and nigiri, long waits for a table during peak times. I've tried a couple times to get into AMA over the past few months. The wait can be long during dinner. The restaurant is very small, but it appears they turn over tables rather quickly. I walked in on a Thursday. Your whole party needs to be present to be seated. We waited in line for about 15 minutes, which was totally fine though there wasn't any communication on how long it would be for a table, nor any communication at all really. We were greeted almost immediately after being seated. It took a bit long to get our drinks. But our sushi bucket came out quickly after that! We ordered the sushi bucket. For the price, it is a TON of food. The rolls are good! They are very similar to what you will find elsewhere, but at a better price point for sure. The sashimi was okay - the fish seemed fresh enough, but the pieces were huge and had an off-putting texture. The nigiri was much more manageable, but didn't have the added wasabi underneath. The ginger however was really gross. It had a weird lemony-bleachy smell. For an improved experience, their sister restaurant Momo in NE is a better option! read more

This place is great! Amazing prices for specialized rolls. The crab wontons were great flavor and crispy, just enough crab. Favorite rolls were the angry dragon and scorpion rolls. AMA sushi is the sister restaurant of Momo Sushi in Minneapolis and is a great option for budget but decent sushi. Inside the restaurant is pretty small, but nice looking. I sat down and was greeted by a bowl of complimentary miso soup which was very nice. I was surprised that they let me order the Sashimi lunch special on a weekend which typically is not allowed at other restaurants. The fish was pretty good! I would knock points off for the tuna as it was a bit fishy and the variety of the pieces chosen were not as extensive as Momo. We have been here several times and the food is great. I just want to give folks a heads up. When they tell you it's going to be ready at a certain time plan on adding at least 15 -20 minutes. We arrived at the appointed time to pick up our order. They told us it would be seven minutes more and I'm still sitting here waiting. Having said that, the food here is pretty amazing just be aware when you order online that it will not be ready on time. Just as a follow up, the manager explained what happens when you order online with some of the dishes. And then gave us a $20 gift card. This is excellent excellent customer service I am confident they will be able to fix the problem. However if you order the Moktuk online - that is what messes things up. Not going to lie, after the high reviews, I really had high hopes for this to be a new sushi spot. Perhaps I'm judging too harshly since everyone's feeling the difficulties of the economy, however I was completely surprised by the small portions for such prices. This is a small spot with limited outdoor seating with cozy yet contemporary décor. Within a minute of sitting down, I was given tall glass of ice cold water and a complementary miso soup. The miso soup was actually very good! Unlike some places, it was not watered down but full of flavor and it also was not super salty. Unfortunately, things went a little bit downhill from here. I ordered the classic sake flight for $10 and a tako (octopus) sunomono. The portion was tiny. There were two small slices of pickled radish and maybe 10 tiny slices of octopus over a bed of spinach with ponzu sauce and sesame seeds. The octopus was fresh, however, it needed more acid, which usually sunomonos have. In fact, sunomono literally means vinegar and there was none to be found... After eating a slice of octopus, it got very very very rich and there was not much reprieve that I was hoping for. I also got two of the specialty rolls, the Momo Roll and Langtu roll. This was my biggest disappointment. The size of the rolls were about the diameter that you would get from a California roll. For $15 per roll, I found this to be quite small. The Momo role was a lot smaller than the previous pictures have shown. Also, the piece of eel was good, but it overwhelmed any other flavors. The Lungta roll was tasty, with the pop! pop! pop! from the roe on top. Again, the size was smaller than most specialty rolls that are found at essentially all other sushi restaurants. All in all, the ingredients are great, fresh and quality. Service was amazing with servers that were knowledgeable, filled water glasses often and were attentative without being overbearing. I liked the sake flight options and they also had an extensive beer and wine list. I just wish that the portions were more like what you would find and expect at any other sushi restaurant. I will probably try again and most likely stick to traditional dishes. read more

This is the best affordable sushi in the twin cities I've found so far and I think the high ratings are accurate. Got takeout (2 udon soups, 2 rolls, and 1 order of momos) which came out to around $70 which is a great price for 3 people and left us all satisfied to full. The udon was decent, not the best I've had but satisfies the cravings. The momos were delicious, I can imagine they would be even better if eaten hot at the restaurant. The specialty rolls were unique and flavorful, the fish fresh and the salmon fatty. Parking is a little hard right outside the restaurant (street parking), but we stopped by on a Saturday night and there were still some spots here and there. The restaurant is small but has a good amount of seating (mostly smaller tables for 2-4). I really appreciated the service even for takeout, the hostess quick to check and communicate the status of my order and showed me a place I could sit and wait that didn't block the doorway. I think that in particular pushed this to a 5 star experience even if you're just getting takeout. read more

Salmon was really good, the others were alright. The gyoza was good but would have liked it to be a little crispier. For sushi rolls we got the rainbow dragon, AMA roll, and the spicy dynamite. The AMA roll stole the show for us tonight - the pickled radish in the pink soy wrap was put together really well. The spicy dynamite roll was fried a little longer than we usually like it making it a bit chewy. Service was excellent - there were three servers on for the whole night but they ran a tight ship and seemed really well managed. The sushi bar was open and they were getting food out timely. The word is out on AMA Sushi and it didn't disappoint! Even though I live in downtown Minneapolis with great food all around me this place is worth the short commute. They get an A+ on everything from service to presentation and the attention to detail was what grabbed my attention. Dishes were beautifully displayed matching the deliciousness of each bite. Interior is on the smaller side could be tough to grab a table during peak hours but if your party is four plus I did hear them taking reservations for larger parties. Give it a shot next time you're in the mood for sushi great experience all around only thing worth mentioning is they still hadn't received their liquor license so might check that before going if that's a deal breaker for you. read more

The menu is huge with tons of options to choose from. I was visiting with friends & we shared Sushi rolls, Momo, and each got our own Sake Flight. This is a must visit sushi spot. Everything tastes fresh, looks amazing, and tastes very good. This was my first time trying a fried banana roll and I am obsessed. I also really enjoyed the Ama Roll, butterfly roll, and Momo's. We tried the beef and veggie Momo. I think the veggie was my fav. The Sake flight was pre-set and fun to try. It had a few sakes and a plum wine. My go-to sushi place! I love the food here. They have plenty vegetarian options to choose from. The rolls are delicious and well flavored. There is street parking nearby which can be tricky at times, but I've always found something or the other nearby. Service is good, they are a FCFS basis restaurant, no reservations so there is always a bit of a wait. It's small and cozy but well decorated. Noodles are a great choice to order as well!
