Second visit, tried a few special rolls as well as sashimi. Still not impressed with the rolls - far too much rice and panko crumb for me. The sashimi is excellent, enjoyed that! This will be my last try at Ama - definitely better places around.

We came from North Dakota and stopped for dinner at AMA Sushi. It turned out the restaurant was quite small and there were quite a long waiting list. We decided to wait anyway. Outside there's a waiting area with heater which was nice. We didn't wait terribly long which was good. Staffs were very friendly and attentive. Sushi quality was good. Our fav was Naruto Roll. The restaurant is in a very nice neighborhood. There are a bunch of boutique shops nearby. Plenty of street parking.

This place has everything you would want from a sushi shop. Great food, fast service and moderately good location. It would be excellent, but parking is a little puzzling.. the Gyoza blew my marathon mind. That level of delicate crisp was artwork. I enjoyed watching the sushi show on TV too

Yesterday I went to Ama Sushi in Edina for their lunch special! First off they start you with complimentary miso soup when you sit down. Trust me right out of the cold, NOTHING hits better. Then the lunch special is wild. You can get any 2 rolls for $9.99 and 3 rolls for $12.99. This has got to be the best overall lunch sushi deal in the twin cities!! The staff was very professional, and warm when we walked in. Very much felt right at home. It isnt the biggest space but they use it well and we were in and out in under an hour. TLDR: Ama Sushi is an excellent sushi spot and an instant favorite for us. High quality fish, affordable prices, quick service and we liked the calm and chill vibes!

Small, cozy spot with seriously impressive sushi. I was a big fan of Momo Sushi, so I figured I'd love AMA, and I wasn't wrong. The menu is huge, almost overwhelming at first because there are so many options, but honestly, everything we tried was excellent. The sashimi is where AMA really shines. The tuna belly (toro) sashimi was divine, easily some of the best I've had. Hamachi and red snapper were also incredibly fresh, with generous cuts. This is hands down my favorite place for sashimi when it comes to value and portion size. The gyoza deserves its own moment. Melt-in-your-mouth, easily the best gyoza I've ever had. The golden salmon was good, and the rolls were solid across the board. My favorite was the Sweetheart Roll, and the Tibetan Roll was a fun, unique option if you want to try something different. Sex on the Beach was also a good pick. Service was quick and friendly, and the complimentary miso soup was delicious. They also have great lunch deals and monthly specialty rolls, which makes it easy to keep coming back. Parking is easy with free street parking or a nearby ramp. They don't take reservations, so expect a wait during peak hours, but it's worth it. If you love sashimi and want quality fish without the ridiculous price tag, AMA is a must.

The food is awesome, but it can be a mad house! We went to Ama since Momo is out of commission for a little while. It was a Saturday night, and we decided to order pick up. the line was out the door (there were many people waiting in the street) to get a table, and when I went inside it took 10 minutes to get a host's attention to let them know I was there for pick up, and another 10 minutes for them to actually bring the food. So I was just standing in the little entrance hall (which fille dup with 3 more people waiting for pick up orders) for 20 minutes. Now, they were super busy, I understand. But they should have a better system for handing out the pick up orders because all of our food was ready! So the pick up experience was extremely frustrating, but the food was great! We ordered the Sushi bucket, which came with 2 servings of miso soup as well. We can eat a lot of sushi, so this was the perfect amount for 2 hungry people. I love that it comes with sashimi as well, so you don't feel like you are eating too much rice. The chef specials roles are whatever the special roles for the week are, so you can't know unless you call ahead to ask. The restaurant is small, but cozy, and there is a tiny sushi bar seating area. Expect to wait if you go at a busy time.

So far I have been here twice with two friends and I strived to get an overall feel of their food taste by ordering different items. In my opinion, they have highlights and items that could use further improvement. Depending on what one is looking for, I may recommend this establishment as a solid spot, especially for sashimi. I have ordered a few different sushi and sashimi entrées and my overall impression was that the sashimi was the absolute highlight. Every type of sashimi I had, ranging from salmon to tuna to escolar, was big in pieces and tasty. Each sashimi piece had different types of fish roes on it as well. I also enjoyed the nigiri, which was basically sashimi on top of rice, and even if the sashimi pieces were smaller, it was still delicious. Because of such, I believe that for those looking for good sashimi, this place would be very solid. The specialty rolls and California rolls were not so different from what I have had elsewhere, so I enjoyed having them and that was it. I just wasn't greatly impressed. I also had some of the momos and they were okay, not spectacular, because there wasn't enough seasoning within the vegetable mixtures and the meat mixtures. The momos relied on the red pepper flake chili oil for flavor mainly. I also had the vegetable teriyaki box and it was underwhelming, because the vegetables seemed very sloppily cut and cooked, and also lacked seasoning. The box had some rolls and scallops in it and that was pretty nice to see. In terms of pricing, all the items including the sushi bucket that I had were very economical. It is pretty difficult to find affordable Japanese food within the United States in general, and even know I know this place doesn't just serve Japanese food, their biggest highlights were sashimi and nigiri, so I will recommend this place to those looking for good Japanese food.

*Angry Dragon Roll. Love a roll with mango! Easy to remove the crab mix topping if it's not your fave or is too much.

Sushi was great! I needed a new sushi spot in my life. I love that this place has two-piece tempura options. Broccoli tempura is my fave, highly recommend. Came at the perfect time, 5pm, as we were seated promptly but a line out the door formed within the hour. Finding parking nearby on street is always a challenge in this area but esp at the dinner hour. I recommend going earlier or later if possible. Fast and casual dining. Great service and very reasonable prices. Enjoyed hot sake. Sampled a delicious Japanese citrus ale beer too.

A few things to highlight right away is there prices for the quality of meal. They are super affordable, especially for lunch. I also love the ambience of AMA. It's a small, quaint location that just gives a nice vibe. The staff are inviting and friendly. I was happy with the portions I had for their Beef bento lunch. I'm able to try many things because of the reasonable prices. I would highly recommend giving AMA a try for a lunch time stop or date night.

It's small. There are no reservations. And the service is incredibly fast. It only seats about 50 people, so big groups beware. That all said, it's worth the wait and the inconvenience of standing in the walkway as waiters trudge through on their way outside to serve the "patio" seating (2 tables) out front. The place is noisy. If that bothers you, you might want to pick an off-time. The food is fresh and tastes excellent. And the service is fast. It's small, loud and crowded. But worth it!

    Chirashi Sushi

I am typically a stickler for authenticity, especially when i am reviewing restaurants with ethnic leanings. For example, a great Mexican street taqueria is likely going to score higher with me than Taco Bell. As I write this review, AMA violates this rule in a nice way. Located on a semi-Eat Street block of suburban Edina, I love that there is free parking available on the street and in the nearby parking garages. It is a compact but well organized dining room smartly set up with some tall planters between tables for privacy. Still, you are squeezed in and they really do know how to pack people in. There is even a 2-seat sushi bar haha. I've never seen one that small, even in airport pop up stalls. I have seen the 1 star reviews based on the AMA policy of not seating a party until all are present. Given the small size of the place, I can't blame them for not wanting to take up valuable space unless they are actually selling and serving food in real time. I am sure this helps keep their pricing reasonable (see next paragraph). I was struck by the affordability of the place. If you know anything about sushi, it is generally not cheap. A Chirashi Sushi bowl is my standard and the one here is $18 with at least 8 good sized pieces of fish plus seaweed salad, daikon pickles, and pickled ginger within. Granted, it does not have exotic things in the bowl and was primarily housing less expensive types of fish (think Escolar, Hamachi, Salmon) but I have not run into a Chirashi bowl with that value in recent memory. I am typically seeing Chirashi bowls in the $32-46 range so this was a nice surprise. Another example were the house Sake's. There was a daiginjo (clear) and a nigori (cloudy) both by low-end label Sho Chiku Bai. True Sake' aficionados may turn up their nose to that brand but it is hard to argue with an entire bottle for $27. The violation of the authenticity rule for me is that AMA clearly promotes that it has both Tibetan specialties and Sushi. That has to be one of the oddest combinations I have run into in a while. I have heard people explain it that they are both "Asian" cuisines. But that is like saying that Budweiser is kind of like Bourbon because they are both produced in America. It is a bit of a confounder to get your head wrapped around that if you are a foodie. In looking at the staff and the kitchen, I am pretty sure that the foundation of the place is Tibetan (don't miss the Momo's) but Sushi was added for a familiar attraction to bring in the surrounding white-bread community. Regardless, it seems to work! Speaking of the staff, they were hard-working, very polite and frequently present. I have nothing but good things to say about them. Overall, I enjoyed my meal here and my party of 3 got out of there for a very reasonable sum which included ordering more food than we could consume and an entire bottle of Sake' that we could not fully consume. That is a great night out in anyone's book despite a bit of inauthenticity. This was based on my first visit here and based on that, it won't be my last!

Absolutely loved the sushi here! We Doordashed a large order for a girls night, and everything was included without being forgotten and so fresh. I loved the New York & Alaksa rolls - the fish was fresh and flavorful even after being delivered. Everyone I was with also loved their orders - definitely will be back!

AMA was AMAzing! The place is small, so we anticipated a wait. We had been to Momo sushi before the accident, so we were excited for a similar experience. We waited in the heated outdoor area which was great! Then we got comfortable at our table and enjoyed some miso soup that made us feel warm and happy. Our server was lovely. We all loved the size of the specialty rolls because they were huge! We loved all of the rolls we tried. I thought mine (butterfly roll) was good, probably like a 3.5/5. The "snow" on top was a bit over the top and removed a bit of the flavor, but other than that I was satisfied!

Wall of dreams! Sake and wine selection wall!
