Great service, clean space and delicious sushi!this was my first time at Yumi and I think I've had some of the best sushi in Minneapolis now. Came in with a large group for a party and our table was ready on time. I ordered a Kyoto (Aka: Tokyo Manhattan) and it was plum whisky goodness . I also ordered the Mexican roll and loved the fresh crunch of jalapeño accompanying the smooth tuna and avocado- would 100% get again. We also enjoyed various appetizers such as sticky wings, Gyoza and egg rolls. I appreciate that the rolls are in orders of 8-10 pieces and beautifully displayed. Already planning my return.

Moved to Minnesota about a year ago and have been searching for a go-to sushi spot. I found this restaurant only 7 minutes from my apartment and thought to give it a try. The food and drinks were definitely a 10/10. Unfortunately the customer service was so not the best. I waited almost 40 minutes for my appetizer and sushi roll to come out and they were sitting next to the sushi chefs for almost 15 minutes before they even got to me. Once my food came, I asked for extra eel sauce and spicy mayo and that took another 10-15 minutes as well. Bartender only checked on me when I called her over but yet went to other customers multiples times during my time there. I spent 100$ on myself alone, while sitting at the bar to just get mediocre service. As far as coming here again.. not sure. Maybe I'll order to go.

This restaurant has so much variety for all types of sushi lovers! We tried the Miso Soup and Yumi Salad as appetizers, and both were good, but I did think the sesame dressing was a little too salty for the salad. The Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice was yummy and definitely had some kick! My overall favorite was the Chicken Udon Noodles, definitely would recommend. There's a large indoor seating area and it's very nicely decorated. The outdoor patio is kind of small. I was surprised to see it so busy on a rainy Monday night, but for a table for two there was no wait

Really nice ambiance for a date night. It's enjoyable to see the sushi bar station while eating. Sushi quality is pretty good. A great variety of drink selections. Our server is so nice. he is really warm and professional. Great menu with different sushi/sashimi choices. Remember that you can park in the parking lot next to the restaurant. The restaurant name is not on the list of parking lot but you can park there and get your ticket validated.

The sushi is amazing and the ambiance is great! Our server was friendly and efficient. Nice patio space during the summer too!

I hadn't been to this restaurant since beford when it was Fern's, but I wanted to see what it was about. Surprisingly the same bartender was still working there! I remembered him well. He was just as friendly, funny, and down to earth as I remembered. We shared some laughs about the good old Fern days, and it was good to see how happy he appears to be in his new role. The food was fantastic, and the service was exceptional. The hostess at the front I am sorry I didn't remember her name, but I remember she was Asian and had a great personality. She was friendly and helpful. We really appreciated how she would come by and clear our table, you can tell she's definitelya team player. We loved the vibe of the place. Parking was a bit challenging, but thankfully they validate, which made things a lot easier. I tried the Honeymoon and Firecracker rolls, both were delicious. My wife went for the Udon noodles and Shrimp Fried Rice, and she enjoyed her meal as well. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in that part of town. Thanks for the great food, outstanding service, and a perfect spot for a date night with my wife!

Great sushi, beautiful restaurant - 4 stars! Yumi was the latest stop in my on-going effort to visit every sushi joint in the Twin Cities... LOCATION & PARKING: Once I got over my trauma of trying to find the place and then my frustration trying to locate parking, I was finally able to relax and enjoy the experience. FYI, Yumi is on the ground level of a large multi-story housing unit. The signage on the glass windows is dark and a little hard to see, especially with the trees on the boulevard. I also found out that Yumi will validate parking if you use the big pay lot. Oh, well. Like a dummy, I drove round & round and I found a spot on the street way too far away. DECOR: The restaurant itself is quite beautiful with a lot of interesting design details (see photos). It's all Japanese themed, of course. The vibes are nice without being over-the-top and it still feels warm & welcoming. SERVICE: As I expected, the service was first rate. My server (the bartender) was friendly, attentive, and on top of everything without being overbearing. Shout out to Michael, it was a pleasure dealing with him. FOOD: My 3 tuna based sushi rolls were great. The burst of vibrant flavors were wonderful. Everything was obviously crisp & fresh. I couldn't help but notice that the Yumi rolls are all a larger and more elaborate than most sushi joints - nice! The prices all seem to be pretty reasonable too. LOW CARBOHYDRATE: It was easy to eat low-carb, keto, carnivore style at Yumi. I stuck with my usual tuna based sushi rolls. I avoided anything with big mounds of rice, large puddles of noodles, added sugar, or anything that might be hiding vegetable seed oils. My insulin levels like it that way and it keeps my physician happy too. I'd go back again any time. Thanks for a great experience, Yumi! - Maxx

Phone did not eat first this time. Went to Yumi during happy hour and ordered the egg rolls, four different types of sushi rolls, the spicy edamame, and the steak teriyaki dinner. All really good. The server was attentive and didn't pressure us to leave after we paid the bill and were still talking. There is street parking available and you can park in the paid lot (and receive validation) even though the parking sign doesn't list Yumi as one of the businesses.

It was recently restaurant week in the Twin Cities. Originally, it was supposed to end on February 26th. I like that for $30 to $35, you can get a three-course dinner at participating restaurants. I was in town for the last day of restaurant week. I booked a reservation to have dinner at Yumi Sushi Bar after my Minnesota Wild afternoon game. Due to the snowstorm the previous week, many restaurants extended their participation till March 1st, including this one. It meant that I ate well for half my visit. Yay! Yumi is a ten-minute drive from the Xcel Energy Centre. There is a parking lot that requires taking a ticket and getting it validated by the eatery. Otherwise, there is street parking, but it was packed on both sides of Selby Avenue. I walked in and was greeted by the nicest woman. I let her know that I had a reservation for 5:15 pm. I took into consideration the game going into a shootout. I was close. The Wild won in overtime. I also let her know that I needed my ticket validated. She went ahead and did that. You basically insert your ticket into the machine and you exit the lot without paying for parking. I got a table closest to the window, which was lovely checking out Selby Avenue and the folks walking along it as I dined. Riley was my server. He was terrific. I ordered the following items that were a part of the restaurant week menu: - Yumi salad - Honeymoon roll - Matcha ice cream I got a glass of water to start. I also went for a cocktail: For here or to go? was my choice. My cocktail came in a Chinese food takeout container. It had a pair of wooden chopsticks and a straw. It was by far the most unique cocktail presentation that I've ever experienced. It was delicious! The cocktail had Suntory haku vodka, peach puree, aperol, grapefruit, soju, lime, soda, and peaches. It was so refreshing and awesome! My Yumi salad came out first. It was huge. My server asked if I needed a fork. I was okay with chopsticks. He nodded and said that it was easier eating it with chopsticks than a fork. I love salad. This one was excellent. It had spring mix with cucumbers, carrots, red onions, and sesame seeds. The ingredients were ridiculously fresh. The sesame dressing was on the side. I absolutely loved the dressing, which made this salad so yummy. My honeymoon roll came out next. This place has generous portions. What intrigued me about this roll was that it was wrapped in soy paper. I wanted to try it out. This roll had a bit of a spicy kick to it. It had spicy tuna, shrimp, tempura, snow crab, avocado, and cucumber. The honeymoon sauce also had some spice to it. I loved this roll. It had everything I love in it. The roll was huge and yummy. I had no problem devouring it. For dessert, I went with matcha ice cream. I was anticipating a scoop when I had ordered it. Nope. I got three generous scoops of ice cream with chocolaty sauce drizzled on top. Wow! I love strong matcha and it was present in the ice cream. It was also creamy. The chocolaty sauce added a different dimension to the ice cream. The chocolate was subtle, but it was a nice flavour twist with each spoonful of matcha ice cream. I was so happy with everything that I ordered a Bacardi coconut rum and coke to end my meal. This place serves good boozy drinks. I loved it so much. Sure, I was looking at snow. In my mind, I was looking at palm trees with sandy beaches. I had a fabulous experience here. I'm contemplating returning after my next matinee hockey game. It's perfect to relax and unwind after a hockey game. (59)

Heard that Yumi is a good place so we went to check out. The dinner was very good, I do feel like it's heavily Americanized. The size are HUGE. Nothing bad about it but was just surprised. Ordered the sashimi plater as we were craving for sashimi but look at the size, it was so filling! The sashimi is fresh and has good variety We ordered soft shell crab but it was okay comparing other places'.

I ordered the surf and turf roll- it was so unique! Had a bit of spice and a large quantity. I also got the chicken friend rice (they do not do side portions, so this is the full size). They do validate parking in the lot right outside. (It looks like it is only for apartment residents, but it is also for business visitors as well) Service was okay- we were there close to closing time and there were portions where we were looking for our server to get more water. The floors were also a bit sticky, hence the 4 star rating.

This is a really great option for some more unique sushi rolls in the Twin Cities. It is definitely a bit more on the pricey side if you opt for the specialty rolls, but we did really enjoy all of them!

Salmon nigiri, Marley roll, honeymoon roll, winter roll, hot knight roll, tuna sashimi
    Sydney K.

The service was absolutely fantastic.. unfortunately we didn't love all of her recommendations, but that's not necessarily her fault. If you don't like spicy, I would recommend asking which ones have chili oil as some of us found that to be a bit too spicy. The winter roll and honeymoon roll were our favorites that we ordered. The nigiri and sashimi were both MASSIVE and delicious. I wish we would've gotten a sashimi platter as it looked fantastic at another table. The marley roll was highly recommended and was honestly some of my least favorite sushi that I've had in terms of the flavor combinations. The sushi is also quite a bit more expensive than most places in the twin cities, with most special rolls being somewhere around $28. I don't think I'll be back based on the price alone. There is a parking lot that you can get validated in the restaurant as street parking can be hard to find.

Ask the Community - Yumi Sushi Bar

Does Yumi have a full bar? I'm assuming they have Japanese wine, beer, and liquors but do they also have the usual mainstream brands of gin, vodka, bourbon beer and maybe some California wine? asking for a friend... ha

Yes, we have a full bar at all of our Yumi Japanese Restaurant & Bar locations (Edina, Excelsior, and St Paul).

We did the edamame, the dumplings, the chicken skewer and the shrimp rolls. All were really delish. Our wait staff was great and everyone stopped by to check on us. All of the rolls we ordered were so fresh and every one was amazing. It is a nice interior with soft music and cozy booths/tables. From the outside the Sakura doesn't look that big but once inside you see it is spacious! I was taken a back on the amount of space they had being a sushi restaurant. I happened to go in between the lunch and dinner rush so I was the only patron in there at the time. The waitress was a nice lady and had some good giggles with her as we chatted a bit. She showed me the upstairs balcony sitting area and I loved how much room there was upstairs. I told her I might have to rent it out for my birthday. The sushi I had was good with fresh quality and expert sushi makers. The menu was fairly extensive. Would recommend in downtown St Paul.
