When I arrived, I was given a salon tour, walking me through to see the product wall, styling chairs (and explaining that this was a "nomadic" salon, meaning that stylists do not have assigned chairs or tables), wash room (a very nice, doored area with aromatherapy and comfortable chairs) color processing area, and drinks refreshment center (coffee, water, and even Coke products). I was led to the restroom which contained a rack of clean salon jackets to wear that snapped up the front and hung my coat. I was also able to store my handbag in the refreshments area covered counter. A unique aspect of Amanda Moncur Salon is the benefit of not just one stylist, but also an assistant. The hair dryers used in the salon are actually attached and plugged into the ceiling, a set of two over each styling chair, allowing them to be pulled down and used as needed. Both the assistant and stylist blow-dried my hair, which made the process faster and I'm sure, provided the assistant with valuable experience working directly with the stylist. I felt quite spoiled for all the attention. My stylist, Savannah, treated my hair with care, respect, and experience. I was there looking for a long layered style with bangs - a nice, soft, and feminine style, but no coloring (I brought a reference photo). She demonstrated all of the products she used and explained their value to me about their particular benefit and application. She also easily answered my questions about static in my hair and other issues. She was knowledgeable and experienced and I felt it easy to trust her and her assistant. I also learned that they do bangs/fringe upkeep for clients every three weeks in-between full visits, which I hadn't heard before from other salons. I came away from the experience with a lovely cut and style, new techniques to improve my hair health and keep my style, and quite relaxed from the head and neck massage from the wash room. I'm happy with everything and will be back for regular visits. I sincerely appreciate that they were not gunning to shorten my hair more than absolutely necessary or insist that I color/highlight, as I have felt pressured to do in other salons. Okay so I fly out to Utah to visit family annually and last time I visited this salon, I saw Lisa and OMG. That girl is amazing!! She kills it EVERY TIME. The worst experience in my entire lifetime of hair care. Ok after three weeks of having K-tips in my hair, so much hair, too much hair for my head. I wanted them out! She refused to take them out! You don't talk to her. You have to talk to Vee, her mouthpiece. Omg it felt like a doctor's office, not a salon! I told her I was having some shedding issues during our consultation a huge red flag, duh! I only wanted a fill-in! What I got was the heaviest hair I've ever had on my head! I've had extensions before this. They were the wrong colors, not the ones shown or picked. Everything was wrong! From last December to today my hair is unrecognizable! It's so broken and thin. There's a video on Instagram it shows a beautiful peacock, it says extensions! Then after it shows a plucked chicken with no hair! That's how I felt afterwards! I had great hair prior to her touching it! I got charged a fortune for her to rip my hair out of my head, while telling me how great it was. She said these is zero damage application and zero damage when taking them out! She doesn't even do that part. I watched all of my hair fall on the floor when they were taking them out with pure alcohol ugh. I did a second round because of her constant prattling about how it was going to be super great, $$$$. The second round the hair was lighter still the wrong color and then she again put some darker piece in it. It wasn't wanted and the colors we looked at on the second consult were also not what was used. It really made me think, does she have extra hair downstairs that if unused on a refusal to do it again does it go into the next person. I'm not saying that's true, but who knows. The colors were never right. I saw a woman that was around my age. I felt so bad for her. I was like wow it looks awful! I decided to complement her. She probably felt the way I did! It's taken me a really long time to do this review. I thought my hair would come back a little better, but my hair is completely destroyed! The pain on my scalp, omg! The worse experience and lies from any owner of a salon. The first day it always looks good, after that nope! I took really good care of my k-tips never had a single compliment, but I always had compliments on my real hair. I knew it was causing issues. I tried to get them out, and you might ask me why did you order the second round? It was because of her constant prattling about the fact that it was ok. I was over thinking it! I've been going to this salon for 2 years. Every time I go, even though I think they know who I am, they ask a question, "What can I do for you?" Obviously I'm here for a haircut. That was always annoying. Here's the reason I will never go there again: I got stuck in a meeting. I knew I was going to be late to the $80 appointment. I called and explained that I would pay the late fee because I was running late. I also explained I could be there in roughly 10 minutes. The young lady said, "please come in." I got a haircut here on Friday and it came out so cute. The hair stylist was kind and helpful explaining the process. Prior to my haircut I got a wash and a deep condition; this came with a massage which was great. I only wish it was a bit longer Overall great experience! I am giving it 4/5 stars because it they gave me a tour which was great, but I didn't really want to do that I just wanted my haircut and massage. I've been coming here for a year now and I always see Lisa for my hair. I get a trim, partial highlight, root smudge, toner, and occasionally a treatment for hydration. She always does a phenomenal job! She takes time in the beginning to see how I'm feeling and if I wanna change it up. She gives me her honest opinion and always honors my wishes. Okkk y'all before you judge, I know my color is oooof ok. Lmao, so I'm from SD and if I didn't already pay for my next appointment for my color to be redone I would've gotten it done today. I have had my hair done by Amanda Moncur herself, twice now. The first time Amanda turned my roots orange and didn't charge me. She did however have to dye my roots darker to cover the orange color. I gave Amanda a second chance which I should have NEVER done! My appointment was 12-19-20. Upon arriving I explained to Amanda my concerns and she assured me it would be okay. This time my hair is a hodgepodge of colors. My roots are gold, there are ashy blonde pieces, ashy brown pieces, and purple streaks. How can you own a salon and have to idea how to highlight someone's hair blonde and lift their roots. With what I paid Amanda I could have flown to Ca had my old stylist do my hair and fly back. Do yourself a favor don't have Amanda Moncur do your blonde highlights. I speak only to Amanda's work, not the other ladies in the salon. They all have nice blonde hair, so someone in there must know how to do it right. I assure you, it's not Amanda. Update: I added photos of before and after. They say they are worth a thousand words. You be the judge. I've only seen Amanda twice because I've only lived in Utah since the middle of September. I first had an appointment with Amanda on 10-02-2020. See above for that experience. Second time was 12-18-2020. I explained my concerned to Amanda and she assured me this time would be different. She was right, it was worse! They did call me 12-19-2020 and offer an appointment with another stylist after my Yelp review. However, after both of my bad experiences there's no way I can trust that salon with my hair, even if it was free. The price isn't the issue. Buckle up, because there is a lot to unpack here. Im going to start from the beginning & walk you through my interactions with the salon. I actually have my cosmetology license, but have found a love of marketing that I've pursued instead. You would think I would keep up on my hair given the cosmo background, but that's 100% NOT the case. I haven't had a haircut in 3+ years (honestly it may have been longer, I just don't want to figure it out or admit to how long it's been) and I have colored my own hair (big no-no, even if you're licensed) for the last few years. I've been debating on doing my hair for a couple months now, but didn't want to do it myself and didn't want to venture in to a salon. Right on queue, Amanda reached out to me via instagram. After looking through her portfolio I decided I'd bite the bullet and get my hair done from a gold-y grown out blonde (4+ inches of regrowth) to an icy blonde. Honestly, my hair has never been done more quickly and it's never turned out this good! I absolutely love it. I had to do a full head highlight, a toner, and haircut. I was worried about how long it would take, plus they take their time in the washroom, so to have all of this done in 2 hours (plus the blow dry & style) was incredible. I did not feel rushed, and it did not feel like it was taking 'too long.' Perfect balance. The staff here are amazing. They are all attentive, sweet, and accommodating. They listen to what you want & are upfront about how long it will take as well as the cost of services. The salon is set up different than any I've been to, but it works well for them. I enjoyed the experience (coming from someone with anxiety who has a hard time talking to people!) and will definitely be back. I straightened my hair today (it was curled before leaving the salon) and I don't see any color or hairs that need to be touched up. Overall, 5 star experience. Definitely recommend. read more

My first time in Amanda Moncur Salon I just needed a simple haircut. It had, embarrassingly, been over a year since I had last had my haircut so I was already feeling a little self conscious about that. Then when I walked in the vibe was pretty uppity so I became even more uncomfortable and honestly a bit intimidated (obviously not their fault). They signed me in and gave me a very rehearsed tour of their small salon. Before they started my haircut they gave me a robe (in place of a cape). Then they took me into their wash room where they washed my hair and gave me a neck massage. With the dimmed lights and relaxing music it felt like a spa. The owner, Amanda, was my stylist. She was very friendly and easy to talk to. My haircut was very quick and turned out nice. They did a good job styling it as well. Throughout my appointment they gave me lots of advice about my hair, which was duly noted of course. The main reason I knocked a star off was because their website, which was pretty handy, was deceiving with pricing. It said a "women's haircut" would be $50+. I stupidly assumed that when I made and appointment for a "women's haircut" would be at least close to that. Nope, it was $80. I'm not sure why the price was so different. If I had know it was going to be that much I would have gone elsewhere. I knew it was going to be pricey being a Paul Mitchell Salon, but $80 for a simple a haircut is kind of ridiculous in my opinion. They put in a lot of effort to make you feel relaxed and pampered at this salon but since I really don't feel the need to spend $80 on a simple haircut, I will not be returning. read more

We almost did not go to Amanda Moncur Salon. We left a phone message for an appointment. We did it online as the message also suggested. An "outsourced" person" contacted us. Not knowing that this was not your shop, I gave personal contact and credit card information "to hold" the reservation, which is unusual. I am cautious and do not just give this information out!! When she could not give specific directions and landmarks, I asked if she was at the shop. She was not. She was "outsourced" in the Philippines. We do not do business with local companies that outsource. We are already stuck with such in larger utility companies and it is horrible. I told her to cancel the appointment. Almost immediately, we received a call from Irene, the stylist scheduled at your salon. She gave us the personal attention expected from an in-shop receptionist or stylist. We kept the appointment. We were immediately greeted by a person with an IPAD document to sign some such document about appointment policies like we were in a medical center, not a local hair salon. NEVER have we had this greeting to sign such a document to get service at a hair salon? Irene met us after and took us on a tour of the salon. Very commercialized to sell products and set up like a conveyor belt. Impersonal setup! Irene was pleasant and personal. Irene did wonderful hair styling. We were very happy and impressed with her. We did not make another appointment due to your strict appointment policy we had to sign and outsource. If something comes up and needs to be rescheduled, everything is done online and outsourced. Making or changing appointments is cumbersome. impersonal and difficult to communicate directly with the salon. The salon is commercialized and not a friendly warm place to be. This is not how one does business and is treated by a local hair salon. read more

So the girl who cut my hair did a great job! I was loving it and thought okay, I've found my new place. She got through blow drying half my hair then had to go help her next client. A second girl came who happened to be much slower and a lot more chatty. She blow dried the second half of my hair and curled half. Then she also got called away to help someone else. Finally a third girl came and curled the second half of my hair. The owner's excuse was because I have children. No written policy, on their email or website exists and nothing was said over the phone. Yet the supposably (cough cough) professional establishment had me sit for hour's, gave me a tour of their immaculate salon and then canceled my appointment. I was supposed to get my hair highlighted on Friday 10/16 for my wedding on 10/23. They called me today to say that my stylist wasn't feeling well and would have to cancel, which I totally understand. But then they said they that they were completely booked and wouldn't be able to find anyone to do my hair in time for my wedding. Very unprofessional. I loved this place and I understand that everyone is struggling but the least they could have done is try to find a replacement. I can't stress this enough, you need to go to this salon. I'm so glad I found them. I have major trust issues with people doing my hair. (Skunk strips in 2019 when I asked for subtle highlights!)
