Came here for dinner on Dia de Los Muertos with a group of 6. The restaurant had a lovely ofrenda set up right by the entrance to the restaurant. We didnt have a reservation but we arrived at 6pm on a Saturday and had no issue getting a table. We started with a spicy guacamole for the table. When they say spicy - they mean it. it was delicious though! I initially ordered a sangria but changed my mind for a classic margarita with salt on the rim. BEST DECISION EVER. Im not a big drinker but that margarita was DELICIOUS. It gave me nice buzz too... if i could handle another one, i surely would have. For my dinner, I ordered the chicken taco and the fish taco with a side of rice and beans. The rice and beans were good, as was the chicken taco but the thing I am still thinking about right now is that fish taco. Light and Airy. Perfectly crispy. Delicious. Been here several times through the years, but for reason I never left a review. Had my birthday dinner here with a group of 10. Service was excellent - I believe they're all family and maybe the owners too? Even though we ordered a ton of dishes, they managed to bring them all at the same time and at the perfect temperature too. Their steak is amazing - definitely some of the best I ever had. But the star was definitely the short ribs. It just melted as soon as it made contact with my fork. Only gripe is that their aguachile was not spicy at all. Would've loved it with a bit more heat. The food and drinks were great when they came. They were completely overwhelmed and unorganized on Cinco de Mayo. Orders took a long time if you were sitting outside on the patio. It took 20 minutes for our first round of drinks to arrive for a party of two. The table next to us 30 min for their party of 6. 40 minutes later we finally had our appetizers guacamole and ceviche. Since we were chatting and catching up we didn't realize that our tacos never came after 40 minutes until half of the order arrived for the table next to us and another parties food who had arrived an hour after us their food came out. We ordered entrees which also took awhile to come out. The short ribs were so tender and had phenomenal flavor but the salsa verde sauce was very spicy. The guacamole appetizer was very fresh. The corn on the cob was delicious and perfectly cooked. It also took awhile to get our separate checks. We were not checked on very often. Short Ribs with Mole Rojo is a very appetizing entree and it comes with rice. It's sour and slightly sweet with a red sauce all over and it's the most tender and juicy short ribs that are slow cooked. The Steak(medium rare) is surprisingly amazing and the vegetables on the side match with it so well. The sauce that the steak comes with is slightly spicy/salty and enhances the flavor of the veges and steak. Also it's quick, only took 20 minutes max. The shrimp ceviche is a little bit bland, it does come with chips to dip into the ceviche. The tacos: Steak taco -tasted bad Chorizo taco -amazing, very flavorful but not too salty Fish taco-amazing, very crunchy and juicy on the inside, the pico de gallo works as an oil cutter with it's sour flavor. Corn on the cob- Not on the menu anymore but they made it for us when we asked. I asked them to cut it in half and they had no issue with that. The cheese, sauces and spices on the corn was amazing but the corn itself wasn't sweet enough. What a Brooklyn gem!!!! My friends and I literally stopped by this place for a taco and a drink and was blown away. So let me say that I was most impressed with the bar selection. They have a very large selection of top shelf tequilas which I could appreciate. I ended up getting the La Mixteca which was a mezcal, sage syrup, and guanabana ( which I had never heard of) but the drink was strong and tasty. For my taco I decided on the fish taco. Incredible meal, instantly became a new favorite. Cocktails are strong and welll balanced. I ordered a La Mixteca: mezcal, guanabana, sage syrup, and lemon. All three tacos I ordered were moan and stomp my feet good. The fish tacos had the most delicately fried fish I've ever had, almost disintegrating after the first bite. A light herb mayo and finely chopped pickled red onions made this perfect for the surprise warm weather. The steak in a chile de arbol sauce was just as good, and comes loaded with truly, properly caramelized onions. The chorizo is dressed with a Guajillo sauce, and both tacos came with fresh cilantro and pico de gallo. So good. The guacamole was also a winner. When this place first opened the food was great. It's still good but some dishes have declined. The fish tacos are no longer as flavorful, the chicken mole is very meager for the price, the seafood rice doesn't have as much seafood. The food is still good and above most places in the neighborhood. That said once again it's the service that brings this place down. The front of house is staffed by very young people who are not trained- never brought over napkins or cutlery, always gave to ask. Never brought plates for apps. They are nice enough but they are kids who were never taught how to run a front of house. Atmosphere is decent but it's always empty making it a little awkward, it's always dead inside. Shame they didn't put anything up for Halloween or dia de los muertos. One thing I wish is for them to have specials or change up the menu. It's been exactly same things since they opened and the lack of diversity makes me not want to go back because there is nothing new to try. Great mom and pop mexican restaurant. We started with the memelita with beans, mushrooms, zucchini, radishes, and a few other ingredients. It's a small item, so it's best for one or two people. I'd compare it to an open corn tortilla taco with a slightly thicker tortilla. We had a couple cocktails. My fiancee had a mojito while I had a horchata and mezcal cocktail. The horchata cocktail was rather interesting. After, I had one of the mezcals neat. They had a decent selection of mezcals. For our main course, we shared the chicken enchiladas with mole poblano and short rib with mole rojo. Both sauces were rich and deep as expected with mole. The mole rojo was creamy too. Both dishes were delicious and I would recommend both. For deasert, we shared some tea and a chocolate tart. All in all, we had a great dinner. read more

First, I loved how the venue had the vibe of a small Mom-and-pop shop but still offered a very modern variety of menu options. For drinks I got the grapefruit drink which was as beautiful as it was delicious. Tart, refreshing, and appropriately strong. I got a chicken taco as an app and the chicken adobado for the main dish. The chicken taco was solid, but the chicken adobado was really awesome. It was pan seared with a crisp, garlicky rub on it. Came with some wild rice which was a good accompaniment. The food is exceptional -- creative but also authentic Mexican. This is not your average burrito joint -- this is a true gem! The real deal. There's not a lot of atmosphere, but the surprisingly elegant plates of deeply flavored cuisine and the warm, excellent service more than make up for it. I also liked the byob policy, and they even gave me some limes to go with my coronas (which i bought at the deli right across the street, mind you i'm on my lunch break at work lol.) The FISH TACOS!! maybe one of the best taco's I've ever had. The roasted cauliflower and unique sauce really make it amazing. I bet Amaranto has some exceptional offerings. However, most of the tacos are anything but exceptional. The chicken tacos are on the bland side of chicken tinga tacos and the steak tacos really the punch you expect. The beef in particular threw me off because its half steak half sautéed mushrooms. Its not bad but not what I want from my steal tacos. The one standout is the fish taco. I got two fresh fresh pieces of cod layered with sauce and pickled onions. The breading had just enough seasoning. It was the saving grace for sure and why I will be back to try their non taco offerings (and eat more fish tacos) read more
