Taqueria Ramirez is a popular, authentic Mexico City-style taqueria in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, known for its tacos like al pastor, suadero, and tripa, often finished with a blowtorch for a crispy texture. Owned by Giovanni Cervantes and Tania Apolinar, the spot stands out for its real flavors, busy small vibe, and unique options like nopales and a rich dipping sauce. The owners opened it in 2021 to fill a gap in NYC's taco scene. I was in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, to pick up an order from the popular fish spot Piscator. I wanted to check out the food scene there and did some research, which led me to Taqueria Ramirez because it's so popular. When we got there, there was a line, but it moved pretty fast. The place has an open kitchen where you can see all the food being made. They offer toppings, but you add them yourself from a table of condiments. I got two Pastor Tacos, a Suadero, Longaniza, and the famous Tripa taco, which is pig intestines. The Pastor tacos had big chunks of meat that were super tasty and flavorful. The Suadero tasted similar to the Pastor, but it was still packed with flavor. I wasn't really a fan of the Longaniza; the flavors didn't do much for me. If you like bold tastes, you might like it. I also didn't love the Tripa -- the texture was off, and it was too soft. They blowtorch the Tripa to make it crispy, but I didn't really get the crunch I expected. Overall, this place makes some really good tacos, and I'd definitely go back to try their Gringa Al Pastor Tacos, which are only available on Tuesdays.

Popular taco spot in brooklyn so came here for lunch on a weekend. The line to order was quite long though overall the folks working were friendly. We ordered several different types of tacos and they were all quite flavorful, perhaps a touch, salty if anything. Seating is definitely limited though. There are a few benches outside where you can quickly eat and head out which is what we did. I would say if you're craving tacos and you're in the Williamsburg or Greenpoint neighborhood in Brooklyn, this is worth a shot.

Managed to check this place out on a Saturday night! The line wasnt too bad but disappointing to hear the were out of tripe. We ordered one of each taco and they were so small! The tacos were the size of a 4or 6 inch tortilla in diameter. So although the portions sizes were small the flavor almost lacked to much. The tacos were hot and good but they didn't seem to have the flavor people raved about. Maybe it wasnt their best day but i dont plan to be back unless the lower their prices. We spent $35 for drinks and 5 tacos we shared and it still didnt satisfy us as a couple. You money is worthy of a better taco spot unfortunately. Seating was a little chaotic but indoor and outdoor seating seemed accessible if you got lucky!

Greenpoint, Brooklyn, FIFA 2026 finals, needed some good eats since the match was 0-0. Never had tacos in NYC, but have been to a bunch in Mexico (Taco Chula). We ordered one of each meat taco (2 pastors, didn't try the cactus) and enjoyed the al pastor the most. Taste and quality were good, but missed the ceremonial deft slicing of the caramelized pineapple the way they do it in MX. Everything was clean, fresh and authentic (for us anyway!) 5 tacos and a Coke Zero, $45/person all-in.

Small spot in Greenpoint serving simple tacos which you dress yourselves with salsa, onions, cilantro limes etc. The highlight is the juiciness and flavor of the fillings. My favorite is easily the al pastor with pineapple. These tacos are a bit on the greasier side but are delicious. Expect a bit of a line!

As a taco lover and always in Cali, where you can find taco vendors all over the streets...this is by far the closest in flavor to the west coast tacos! This place is small so a line builds up pretty long. My first time here there was a pretty big line but moved pretty fast. You get in line for the workers to take your order then once you receive your tacos you can go in line for the topping bar to put your own veggies and sauces. Seating area is pretty small, there is about 10 seats and then a standing table area from the outside. They serve a variety of meat choices on fresh tortillas, I was planning to only eat 4 but after trying them, I had to go back in line for seconds! This place is definitely at the top of my list for Taco spots on the East Coast! Compared to other spots, it's pretty pricey currently $5.50 per taco! I paid around $100 for 13 tacos and 4 drinks

We tried one of each (except the veggies one) and the Al pastor was the best! It was so juicy and flavorful. Note: The spicy sauce on the side was actually spicy. It was missing pico and guac for me, but I still enjoyed it! I'm usually not a corn tortilla person, but theirs tasted more like real corn. Overall the flavors tasted more authentic than other taco places.

Don't play with the red spicy sauce!! That kicks!! Pierced my tongue and glad I brought my water bottle. All really flavorful. Nice atmosphere. Nice workers. Didn't wait too long. Great to at around the outside table with friends. I loved all the tacos. Green sauce is my fav. My fav was probably the longaniza!

Suadero Taco (~$6) & Tripa Taco (~$6) - before toppings

Ordered: Suadero Taco (~$6): slow-cooked beef confit Tripa Taco (~$6): slow-cooked and blow-torched beef small intestines Aya's take: I found myself back at Taqueria Ramirez and decided to refresh my taste buds' memory on these tacos. Since I don't eat pork, I ordered the same two I got last time which are beef-based - the Suadero & Tripa tacos. FYI, I found out after that everything is actually cooked in lard, so unfortunately I wouldn't consider anything here pork-free. Both were super tender, savory, and cooked well. The self-serve toppings are really what enhance the flavors and make these feel like proper tacos. It's a satisfying bite but definitely not something to go out of your way for if you can't eat pork.

    Pastor, Suadero, Longaniza, Guava Juice

I tried three of them because I was so excited: the Pastor, Suadero, and Longaniza. All were delish but I think I liked the Longaniza the best. All the toppings are self applied so of course I put all the toppings on. Loved the salsas they had a good heat to them. Plus the guava juice was fire with this. Was craving tortilla chips wish they had some.

Not sure what all the hype for this place is about. I've tried many tacos from dozens of different Mexican places. This place is average at best for me. Decor. Really none to speak of. Open kitchen. Small tiny place. Mostly high stools for seating around high counter areas. No tables here. Very random, odd and end furniture. Very divey, particularly the enclosed porch area. This area has a couple of high tiny bar tables, no seats. It's a bit weird, if you sit in front of the window, which is open and you end up staring at the person who is using the other side of the counter in front of you. And you both are kinda awkwardly trying not to look at each other. After you get your tacos, there is a self service topping counter, to the side. Cilantro, red and green sauces, lime wedges, etc. Take as much to your liking to dress your tacos. Tried the green sauce which has a quite the sharp spicy kick. On to the food. Taco. I found the meat to be overcooked to the point of being a bit crunchy. Also rather oily. If crunchy meat is your thing, you will love these. Tripe. You get small, thin tripe rings, the size of a quarter. I found them too rubbery/ chewy. Also not marinated enough, because the offal taste is strong. This place seems to be packed with people most of the time. So they are doing something right, it's just not for me. Still on the trail to find the best taco in NYC...

I really enjoyed these CDMX style tacos. This is something that was very different and the lard dipped shells and the al pastor style pork were phenomenal. The sauces and fresh toppings bar were also high level. Definitely a must when in area

    Ru accept payment with card?

    yes

Do they have any options that aren't spicy--that don't have chile?

Yes all the meats inherently aren't spicy. They are seasoned but not at all spicy. You can manipulate the heat level by adding salsa. But unless you are extremely sensitive and I mean cartoonishly so , I would be hard pressed to find anyone that…

Do they only have pork meat, no beef or chicken?

They have non pork items as well.

Is Nopales the only vegetarian option?

Technically all the tortillas are cooked in Lard for added flavor so nothing is vegan nor vegetarian.

Most of all, what I really appreciated with every bite is that I wanted more and that it was so unique compared to anything else that I had ever tried. I thought the tasting menu was a really good deal, but you should also consider booking just a la carte because everything was so solid. You can tell when the chips served alongside the guacamole are so delicious and so unique that the rest of the meal is going to be incredible. I will say that it did seem slightly understaffed. Our waiters did the best they could, but dinner took longer than expected. It was still a great experience for both those on dates and those there with friends!

I loved all the sauces that they give to each table that I couldn't decide which one I liked more. The drinks were very good as well. We got the deconstructed margarita and I really enjoyed it as well as the pina colada cocktail. Service was a bit on the slower side but to be fair, there weren't many people working the tables. Also one of our dishes got served to the wrong table and then never came :( definitely wanna come back to try the tuna tartare which was the dish that didn't get delivered.

Additionally, the cocktail options are nicely priced: sangria from $8, cervezas from $5 and mixed drinks from $12. The menu offers traditional Mexican fare; my favorite is the cheese enchiladas with a verde sauce which myself and friend Sally ordered. It is a very filling entree: three enchiladas, yellow rice, salad, beans in a verde sauce. The verde sauce has a nice kick to it. My friend Cathryn ordered chicken enchiladas. They also serve great tortas and my friend Virginia ordered the Chicken torta; hearty sandwich with Chicken Milanese. As an appetizer, we ordered the always fresh and delicious guacamole and Totopos. The cocktails were flowing: $5 Coronas with lime, Rainbow Margaritas, Sangria and a Rye Smash. The music selections are always great and had us bopping as we dined. Service is always on point and professional. There is a backyard for Al fresco dining. Coszcal de Allende has been an outstanding Mexican restaurant I have dined at for @20 years. No snickering. This is largely because of the sweet customer service. A three star review for more…read morelike two star quality. It is not saying much for a city that really lacks in Mexican cuisine. To say I did not give this restaurant a fair shake is like saying I only went to an ice cream shop and only ordered the cone. I went all out there, which is maybe why I received the service I received, or maybe it is because I sat next to what appeared to be my server's children. Whatever the case, I was treated well here. Onto the food. The Sopa Azteca (their tortilla soup) is a nice change from what I had at a previous Mexican restaurant. I would like the portion to be bigger and more meat in it, but I like the Mexican spices and the variety here. It is quite enjoyable. The Queso Fundido should be called a Queso No Divertido. It was awful to eat, with lousy flavor and texture. This is the second time I have struck out with this appetizer. It is safe to say I am done ordering it in this city. Nobody does it right. The Paella is nice, but at its core has the essence of a nice dish. Some parts are full of tremendous flavor, and some parts are dry and bland. I ate this all out of necessity, and also because once I mixed the bland with the good it actually turned into something quite pleasant. The chicken enchiladas I ordered because it would not be fair to come here and pass up something Tex-Mex as an entree. The chicken is inconsistent, well cooked in some spots, dry in others. The salsa verde has a lot of kick here, but the side salad and charro beans nearly ruin the whole thing. At least the Mexican rice is fluffy and has great flavor. Speaking Spanish to the staff helped curry points in the service department. I like family owned businesses. Everybody was busy and on point. So what if the food does not wow, I have given more, for less. Hence why this is a three star review and not a two star review.
