Came here with some friends and family for a birthday on a Sunday night. The place itself is pretty nice, we had the second floor VIP section since we purchased bottles and food. The service was good in the VIP section and the bartenders at the bar were very attentive. The meat empanadas were absolutely delicious, the flour was crispy and the filling was tasty. I ordered margaritas at the bar which were very well made and strong. The only thing that really ruined the experience was seeing a roach in the VIP section. I know these things are difficult to control since the location is very close to the train but it did ruin the experience either way. The music was pretty good, had a variety of different genres. I would come here again to maybe have a drink at the bar but not for their VIP. read more

We had come to Amaru Pisco Bar to celebrate a Birthday on a Sunday night. We had the upstairs section to ourselves, which was nice and specious with a few couches for us to sit and enjoy our drinks. The bartender did a great job preparing our margaritas and the empanadas we ordered were delicious. The upsetting part was when I was in the middle of a conversation with a friend and a cockroach the size of my middle finger landed in my arm. Ah I love Amaru. It makes me want to go back to Peru even more! (and I'm not even Peruvian!) Maracuya sour, still amazing! Try the salchipapas! I came here on a Wednesday night around 9:45 and it started to get packed as I was leaving at 12:15. Their music playlist ranges from bachata, pop, salsa, hip hop, cumbia, and some alternative rock. The bartenders are attentive and very friendly. For my first drink I ordered the Cholita, which was very refreshing, clean, and not overly sweet. I prefer bitter drinks over sweet, so I enjoyed the Callao Long. A girly drink all will appreciate is the Maracuya Sour. For food, the Cebiche (Ceviche) wasn't anything special but it was satisfying. Gambas al Ajillo (Garlic Shrimp) was quite delicious also served with a basket of bread. My friend ordered Alitas Amaru (chicken wings) and seemed to enjoy them. I really do like this place. The decor is great. Ambiance is great especially for a date. Sometimes the music might just be a little too loud, but if the music is good then it won't matter as much. The restroom is well maintained. There is a balcony seating area which costs $200 to rent with full service. Accommodates approximately 25 people. The staff here is awesome. Shout out to Gabriel, Michael, Ephrain, and Carlos. There is also a little outdoor area for the occasional smoker to access. The negative? It's quite a significant one... No coat check. All the seats in here are stools meaning no back. If you come with a jacket/coat then you either sit on it or on your lap. Minus one star for that. The drinks are great and appropriately priced for what they are going after. If you're complaining about the price, then you obviously are not the clientele they are targeting. The tapas is also great. I recommend the Gambas de Ajillo. I'm a repeat offender at this place. read more

I really like this bar, it sort of feels like being in Peru. Food is great and the bartenders are cool. Havent had a bad experience inside the bar. The damn bouncer though, is an asshole. I dont understand why he is on a power trip. The last 2 times that I tried going he was making me wait more than 30 mins and nobody has time for that. We are in northern, theres lots of places to go. What a gem in the neighborhood! Part sports--sports lovers will totally dig the gigantic screen and cocktail bar, this spot is a nice addition to the neighborhood. Those of you who love their cocktails sweet will be happy here. I thought the Amaru pisco drink was super sweet but another drink (I don't recall the name but it's the first drink listed on the right side of the menu ) was better thanks to its tartness. Like beer? They have two Peruvian beers on draft that are totally worth trying. The biggest surprise was the amazing huge ceviche trio sample. For only $14, you get three different types of ceviche (two fish and one shrimp) with chockful of flavor and zest. This is a mega steal; in Manhattan, you would probably need to pay double the price for the quality and portion. My only misgiving (aside from the super sweet pisco) is the size of the bar tables. The small size suits a party of 2 comfortably. For a party of four, it leaves you with enough space only to drink. We had to cram our drinks and be creative while enjoying our ceviche. Still, I'd come back again but ironically, the draw would be the food. By the way, they serve complimentary popcorn kernels (almost like cornnuts minus the added flavors and preservatives). read more

So Disappointed at my last visit to Amaru.... I am a regular customer of Amaru. Although their music and lounge is okay I had a bad experience when paying. BE AWARE OF THE TIP. At my last visit the waiter felt it was okay to tip himself without my authorization. I noticed my receipt the next day and noticed that I do not write my numbers the way it was written. He had the audacity to tip himself on my CC transaction and accepted the actual tip I had left him in cash. So if you are paying in CC BE AWARE. The server that night who did this is named CARLOS C. Next, I had a bad experience with the bouncer. He was not allowing my boyfriend to come in because of his shoes. However, we are regular customers who also buy drinks regularly from the lounge. He was allowing others in timberland boots and other shoes enter the lounge. My BF was wearing converse and was appropriately dressed. I had to go into the lounge and speak to the bar tenders and the Manager in order for them to let him in. I was actually looking for "German" because he is awesome bartender and he knows we are constantly visiting Amaru. German was not working that particular night. read more

LOVE this little spot! It's a very chic & trendy bar with a HUGE projector screen, yummy cocktails, delicious food and good music. Ok the music is a bit loud but after a few cocktails, you'll be dancing in your stool! I had the ceviche and the lomo empanadas both were DELICIOUS!!! I tried two cocktails: the "Cholita" and el "Viejo Verde" both very yummy and packed a punch, which I realized once I stood up! In case you are wondering, pisco is a colorless grape brandy found in Peru and Chile. All of their cocktails are made with it. Being Peruvian myself, I really liked how they incorporated Peru in every aspect of this place, from the drinks, to the food and even the music. It's pretty awesome. Most of the staff here are men, as well as the patrons. If only we can get more pretty latin women in here we'd be good as gold! I hope this place turns into a bar/dance spot soon. This is legit the best bar in queens with the best staff. The drinks are out of this world with their pisco specialities. The bartenders are so sweet and always give good service. Efran, German and Kevin are always so friendly and make the drinks perfectly. I love the music and they always have a variety. The food is good as well. I highly recommend this place. Drinks, all Pisco based, we're good bordering on excellent. The space is great and could really be something, especially for this "dead zone" in Queens. The issues here are they don't seem to know "who" they want to be. -- Are they a mixology bar that specializes in Pisco cocktails? -- Are they a neighborhood bar that serves Bud's and Coors Light to the construction workers coming off the job? -- Are they a night club with thumping music and a DJ? -- Are they a sports bar with HD TV's showing the sport du jour? Why do I ask? Because all four were going on simultaneously while we were there. It was really distracting to the point of annoyance. I think pisco is my new favorite liquor especially in cocktails as nicely done as the ones here. Eric and I tried 4 cocktails and loved each of them. Very inventive with the ingredients and flavorful. The cocktails are $10 a piece which is a little pricy for a bar on Northern Blvd but we ended up thinking it was basically worth it. If they were slightly more reasonable or there was a happy hour on all cocktails, I think we'd go back more frequently. Comparable to other bars it's a 3, but for the neighborhood it gets a 4 --- scarcity creates opportunity. The drinks are measured and the happy hour is good. Weekend nights it get's super packed so if you want a seat at the bar, come early. It's not the sexiest crowd (not counting the bartenders) but the regular pisco is very good and the maracuya pisco is dessert in a fancy cocktail glass. The atmosphere is awesome, this is the type of place you can come with on a date and have a great time personally, the type of crowd you have here is "mature" (on the nights I've been to). They do have Peruvian drinks such as "Pisco Sour" and any other drinks you can think of, Peruvian Beer as well! Never had the food but check this out! The previous restaurant that use to be in the same location was "Pio Pio" then the owner successfully opened this place where people can go after a nice huge meal and burn it off or wash it down with a nice Pisco Sour! The crowd is often South American couples looking for a more stylish night out while staying local. The cocktails focus on pisco and the music is a mix of Spanish, house and hip hop. I have been here a few times and every time is a good time. Drinks are fantabulous and even have your typical Peruvian pisco sour. If you read what's in it do not say ewwwww until you actually try it. I had the Maracuya (passion fruit) pisco sour. They add egg whites but you won't even notice it. Try it!!! Menu had different drinks and even some appetizers. The only negative about this place is they only have 1 bathroom for W and 1 for M. You feel like your in one of those hip trendy spots in williamsburg or lower east side/village. the drinks are awesome, all the cocktails are interesting. my faves are the pisco sour with maracuya (passion fruit) and the chicha morada (its Purple and its good!) the tapas are super tasty. they did a twist on the "Salchipapas" most places use regular hot dogs & cheap fries but they use Spanish Chorizo & Fresh cut fries. Another fave is the gambas al ajillo (shrimp in garlic sauce) u can taste the wine & pisco with the garlic! Next, the ambiance. I loved the music as im a big Latin Rock fan and on wednesdays its 80's/90's night and the dj mixes everything from new wave to latin rock. Decided to try this spot because I heard it's the same owners as Pio Pio. It's actually located at the old Pio Pio location on Northern Blvd before it moved across the street. With that being said I came here with a having dinner mentality and not a drinkers mentality. I was also expecting more of a traditional menu and less of a fusionized one. (So if I ever come here to drink my rating might change since it seemed liked it gets fun late night.) They have a tapas type menu so we ended up ordering a couple of things. Being Peruvian if I see Perihuela or Ceviche on the menu it's a must I ordered one of them. So needless to say I ordered the Ceviche Tasting which comes with 3 different types of Ceviches. The traditional one was delicious!! The other two were too fusionized for me. Last we ordered the Sliders Tasting- unfortunately these were not good at all- really dense like meatloaf and seasoned funny. The Antichuchos and Salchipapas were very good though. The Antichuchos were cooked perfectly and went very well with the Huacatay Sauce that it came with and even better with the Aji (Peruvian hot green sauce).
