Neat little place. The restaurant itself is pretty old and well worn. Not sure if they changed but was very cautious coming here due to previous reviews. We must have been lucky but everything we ordered (and there were four of us) came out really good. I read numerous positive reviews about the quality of food at this restaurant, which is why my husband and I chose to visit on Saturday, March 14th. We arrived early for dinner, and the place was nearly vacant, with only a group of 4-6 adults and the same number of children in the back, along with a family of four near the entrance. A Hispanic male waiter approached us without greeting and simply asked how many were in our party before seating us in a booth directly in front of the men's bathroom. Sitting near a toilet is unacceptable; it ruins the dining experience regardless of the food's quality. I explicitly asked to be seated elsewhere, away from the restroom. The waiter responded with visible resentment, retrieving the menus with a displeased expression and body language. Instead of accommodating our request, he chose to seat us next to a group of about 12 people, including adults and children. The noise was overwhelming, making conversation impossible. His retaliation for our discomfort was to seat us in the loudest part of the restaurant. Given that the restaurant was nearly empty apart from the two families, this was unreasonable. Frustrated, my husband and I decided to leave. We came expecting a pleasant evening of authentic Mexican cuisine. This waiter clearly needs training in customer service. His attitude has cost this establishment our patronage. As devoted fans of Mexican food who frequently recommend and visit trusted restaurants, we will no longer consider Amaya's Bar & Grill in Red Oak. At best I found the food to be uninspiring and mediocre. The hard taco was a big disappointment, the taco shell was comparable to Taco Bell and just not very good. I've only been here once before. The first time wasn't so bad so I went again and this time had be question ever going again... I only ordered guacamole and they gave me a huge container as if it was a lot in it, but basically gave me a condiment size scoop. I could've gotten a fuller size for a lower price at chipotle. read more

We truly enjoyed our visit. My wife and I live in Dallas and was in Red Oak for a Dr Appt. Afterwards we were hungry and found this restaurant on the internet. We enjoyed a couple of drinks and a great dinner. If you're looking for a small down home quiet, cozy Mexican restaurant, then this is the place. Great food, Great drinks and great service. Well, I won't be too harsh on them but they suck you in with 99 cent margarita on Monday and Tuesday and they are basically Costco Margarita mix with a tad of salt. I ended up upgrading to a top shelf which was much better. The Food was just ok and the Tamales were the hit of my evening. I am glad I tried this spot but there was nothing that would make me run back too. If you are in the area and just have to have a Mexican fix than why not but if you are willing to drive a few more miles keep driving. read more

Great food and margaritas! Weekend is best time to go, they always have the "A-Team" Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

We wanted Mexican food and wanted to try something different. This place is way over priced for very basic food. $17 trio fajitas and it was worth $8, no flavor. Like a premade mix of frozen beef, chicken and shrimp thrown in a skillet...yuck. campuzanos charges this and their fajitas are the best ever. Enchiladas were very basic, comparable to a patio frozen dinner if yall remember those. Ground beef wasnt bad. We asked for a spicier salsa, our waiter said they didnt have any and didnt even attempt to ask. Language barrier I assume. Another waiter walked by, we asked her and she came back with some. I told my honey we will stick to what we know and go to Mexican grill or campuzanos. The refried beans had zero flavor. Waste of money. Wont return to this restaurant. read more

I grew up in Red Oak and have been going to Amaya's since I was a child. I am writing this review because the service lately has been so terrible. They are super slow at taking your order and even slower at refilling the chips and salsa. They got both my order and my son's order wrong. We ordered to go food for my daughter and they got that order wrong too! The food is decent but there are better places to eat locally. I live in Waxahachie now and I should have gone to El Fenix! We almost went to El Fenix but my son loves Amaya's chips and salsa and wanted to go there. Never again... read more

Used to like to eat there until I scooped out a soggy tortilla chip from my queso. So yes, they do recycle food from one customer to the next! I received a bowl of queso that someone had already been dipping in. I'm sure they recycle salsa, chips and whatever else they can save a penny on. Didn't even complain-just left feeling sick. The guy who works there has an attitude and could care less about customers. It's been about 3 years since this happened so maybe they have cleaned up their act. read more

The food is entirely bland. I've been here several time through the years and had several different menu items. The fajita meat is dry and flavorless and served with dry, flavorless rice. The enchiladas are entirely bland and flavorless too. The only thing worth eating at Amaya's is their chicken tenders. Which is surprising because this is a mexican joint! It's not worth it, Taco Bell has more flavor and excitement in their food than Amaya's. And that, is a very bold statement! Fajita steak was awful. The meat was like rubber. Will never go back. This is the second time that this has happend. I complained and told them that I could not eat it. Today was my first time at Amaya's. It was lunchtime. The food was good which is the only reason for 2 stars. Service was very poor. There were only 5 tables in the whole restaurant with customers and I saw 3 employees (1 hostess, 2 servers) yet it took 5 minutes for someone to take my drink order. I ordered my drink and meal, lunch chicken fajitas ($7.99) which came with beans, Rice, guac, sour cream and pico de gallo. I asked to sub the sour cream for double guacamole and beans for double rice. It came to the table with one tiny scoop of guacamole and one serving of rice, and no extra plate. I corrected the girl ok the guacamole and she brought it but I didn't correct her on the double rice because I didn't really need it anyway. When I got my check, I was charged $9.99 for the fajitas. I flagged down the waiter, who was the one who took my order, and he said that it was an additional $2 for the second scoop of guacamole. I told him I was subbing the sour cream, to which he says, "normally the guacamole is $4 but to sub it for the sour cream we charged $2." I told him I wished he would've said that when I ordered and also told him that I didn't get double rice like I asked but whatever. Also, if I had ordered guacamole that size and were charged $4 for it, I would be pissed. So I was charged $2 more for my meal but actually received less than it should have came with. I didn't tip. I know that's awful and I've worked in the service industry so I get it, but this is crap. read more

Guacamole was good except they tried to stretch it w lots of lettuce and tomatoes. Very large selection of dishes for adults and children to choose from. Holy Moly!! We came here on a whim and from the second we walked in we were blown away with the immediately amazing customer service. Pleasant atmosphere and selection of food was incredible. We ordered our apps and they came out quickly, but you could tell were fresh! I am a sucker for fried mushrooms and that isn't something you usually order at a Mexican restaurant. I didn't have high hopes but they came out and were HUGE fresh fried mushrooms!! Oh my gosh!! We were so surprised at how delicious they were. Then our food came out promptly too!! I ordered a chicken enchilada and a cheese enchilada, because I don't like ground beef. When I cut until my enchiladas it was ground beef and cheese, but don't take this as a complaint. This was the best happy accident that has ever happened. I don't like ground beef because it never has flavor. This is the ONE AND ONLY time I have ever been wrong. These enchiladas were amazing. The beef was so flavorful that I'm ecstatic they got my order wrong. The beans and rice on the side were so very good. I have zero complaints. My husband ordered shrimp enchiladas and there were so many shrimp they were falling out. These were good shrimp too. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. So amazing. We also got some guacamole and it was freshly made and flavorful. They used the perfect amount of ingredients and avocados. We might have moaned while we were eating the guac, with no shame. In conclusion, we couldn't recommend this place enough. The food was mind blowing amazing. The service was impeccable. They earned repeat customers, probably for life. read more

This place is awful. You will get fresher food from Taco Bell. The enchiladas are frozen then heated and served to you. Make sure you grab some salt and or ketchup to add flavor. Some have made comments that this is as good as it gets for Red Oak but that is simply not true. Drive less than 2 miles west on Ovilla Rd and go to Cancuns. read more
