I still visit this place from time to time whenever I'm in the area.The place used to be twice as big way back but now metro pcs occupies what used to be the other half :( I bought the majority of my yugioh card collection from here along with a couple comics, figures, pins and other random goodies. They always have the Critical Role comics and happily hold them for me when they come out. I appreciate that they aren't overbearing with the customer service while shopping, allowing us to shop in peace and in our own time. There was a book I was wanting but wasn't sure they were going to get, and they took down my number and called me weeks later when it released, and I was impressed they didn't forget about me. Good selection of toys and comics. If you collect figurines, this is a place for you. However, based on their customer service (or lack thereof), you must know what you are looking for before you walk in and avoid asking questions if possible. Just go in, grab what you need (browse for thrills if you want) leave your dough, and call it a day. Lately I learned the difference between a good comic book shop and great one with just one series: Dark Knights Metal. Here's my comic store review series #3! So after golden apple and a shift of work, I called this location and asked them for their copies available for metal and that I'd be down soon. Now here's the thing.... Not a lot of places know this series, know what they have, or know what to charge. Because they said they have a copy (foil cover for 6$). I get there, suddenly it's 8$. That's fine, but I ended up picking up the same copies for 4$ each later at another store. They og told me they only had one book in the series, turns out they have a ton of them. I picked them up, cardboard and plastic only 18 cents each (one of cheapest I've found), but still something just felt off. Another plus is they have 20% off on ALL series books ALWAYS. Holy Yelp score abortion, Batman. Check out the low rating on Amazing. I frequented this place when it was twice the size it is now, and was never really disappointed other than getting the cold-shoulder from guys behind the counter from time to time. Seemed to play into stereotypes when they'd have massive, in-depth conversations with most of the clientele, but whenever a girl approached the register or asked for help, they'd clam up and stare at the counter. Anyway, since the downsize, a few things have been on the odd side. When the first printing of the Spider-man #583 (which featured a bonus story and varient cover featuring Obama) came out most shops around the country were selling them like crazy. Not Amazing, though. They put up notes saying it was Marvel's fault they didn't get any to sell because the window for ordering, they wrote, was so small. Up to that point I'd thought Amazing to be rather dependable, carrying many titles that other comic shops in the area don't. I've been a part of many aspects of the comic book industry, and I've known comic book creators and publishers. So I like to think I write this review with some authority. Further, for the past decade, I have been an infrequent customer of Amazing Comics, visiting recently for the first time in a couple of years. While the store has undergone cosmetic and inventory changes, I must say Amazing Comics remains a very inadequate comic book store. Please understand, my negative opinion is not based on personal pet peeves like their comics being grouped by publisher instead of title, or the unbalanced toys to comics ratio. Instead, it's based on the qualities (or lack there of) any brick and mortar retail store should exhibit regardless of what is being sold. For starters, the internal signage is inconsistent, confusing, and in various stages of disrepair. Fonts differ in size from one sign to the next. Some are printed from a computer, while others are handwritten. Worst of all though is many of the signs - specifically the "new comics" signs - are tattered, ripped, and torn. Heck, they've been that way for five years! How difficult is it to replace them?! That level of disrepair, on signage that is so easily fixed, is sloppy, lazy, and marks a lack of pride and commitment on the part of the owner and the employees. That lack of pride also shows up in the dust collecting on the expensive toys that don't sell, and in the mish mash of shopping bags they provide to customers. A Circuit City branded bag? Really? I know branded shopping bags are expensive, but plain brown, flat paper bags are relatively inexpensive, and look significantly better than the bags bought on the cheap when the Circuit City across the street closed a few years ago. But most damning - not only for a comic book store, but for a retail business in general - is the atrocious customer service. That also hasn't improved in a decade. Two employees were behind the counter when I walked in. I smiled and attempted to make eye contact with each, but did not receive a smile or greeting of any kind in return. Isn't it "brick and mortar customer service 101" to greet every person who walks in the store? I didn't even receive a head nod. And it isn't as if they were busy with other customers. These weren't new employees either. I know for a fact each has worked there for years. As inexcusable as the lack of a greeting is, the employees could have somewhat redeemed themselves by walking up to me while I was browsing to say hello and ask if I needed help finding anything. But again, I might as well have not even been in the store. Heck, even when I brought the items I wished to purchase up to the register, i.e. I became a paying customer, the only words spoken to me were to inform me of my total. Perhaps some customers forgive being ignored by the employees because that's the stereotype of a comic book store, but as a former business owner, to me it is unconscionable. I wouldn't stand for it from my employees, and I won't stand for it as a customer. If it were in any other industry, Amazing Comics would have gone out of business years and years and years ago. But comic book readers have been conditioned to accept mediocrity in terms of store presentation and customer service, thinking as long as the store has their comic books each week, what the heck else matters? That attitude is really a shame. Comic book readers deserve so much better than Amazing Comics. read more

Wow, not sure where all the hate is coming from. Well, I'm a weekly regular at this place and I have to disagree with a lot of the reviews. The selection of new comics is on par with pretty much everyone out there. They carry all of the majors and anything they don't have they can get for you if you bother to ask. Beyond that on the comic front there isn't a whole lot to ask for. A good selection, that they have well stocked and its pretty much always out on time. I personally havn't had any of the customer service problems that everyone else has. I usually end up with Danny or Venera helping me out since they are usually working on "new comic" day. They are both really friendly and helpfull and if anything can be a little too chatty. So I'm a little mystified at all the people whining about customer service. Maybe you are expecting a little too much? Afterall it is a comic shop, the merchandise is all out in the open. For the most part people going in know what they want. There is nothing behind a counter and they don't carry back issues. If I have a question, I find my inner grown up, ask and I get prompt help and its not like the staff is hard to find. The store's not that big. All in all I really like this place. I manage to get all the comics I want every week with no hassle. The books are always out, in good supply and I don't have to deal with some of the BS games certain stores play with the "special" or hard to get books. Staff has been really good to me and helpful. My only complaint could be I seem to always be there during freakshow hour when all the people that look like they are homeless or crazy or both decide to camp their hygenically challenged selves in front of the racks for a 3 hour library session. However thats nothing I guess they can fix but I guess might be another plus in Amazings favor since they put up with them. read more

Hmm, not sure why this store is getting a lot of hate as I'm able to go in there and find exactly what I need. So here's a little guide for people that say they can't find what they want: 1) The first shelf on your left past the display case is for new comics/GN's/toys. That shelf continues straight down with the rest of the new books for the week. 2) The shelves above and below that middle shelf are (respectively) DC, Vertigo, MAX, Marvel, Image, TopCow, Aspen and other publishers (including FantaGraphics, Avatar, IDW, etc.) all the way to the back of the store. 3) Toys. All along the back wall and heading back up toward the front of the store again including a center aisle. The display across from the toys are older toys and statues. 4) Comic supplies: boxes, bags and boards are in the aisles in front of the new books. 5) Manga, GC's and Magazines are in front of the comic supplies aisle. For people complaining that the store is half of what it used to be: The owner downsized when it was clear the economy was tanking. Smart business move. Also smart was moving the majority of stock to the online store as well as finally having a presence at Anime Expo and Comic Con. As far as the staff goes I like being able to go into a store and being left alone to browse and flip through comics. Nothing annoys me more than walking into a store and immediately being pounced on. Bottom line: Amazing Comics is a great place to go to and spend a while. read more

If you need a place to fly your geek flag high, this is it. It is easily one of the largest comic/collectibles stores I've ever been in. They pretty much have everything. I collect toys, so it's a great place to find out what's new. One thing they don't have: Good customer service If you have questions expect to get that sarcastic surly Comic Book Guy attitude. You are better off looking for it yourself. You will probably hear some of the most incredibly geeky conversations about Sci-Fi, D&D, Action figures, Jessica Alba, Natalie Portman, Alf, etc. Some of these guys need to seriously get laid... or at least kiss a girl. Have to pretty much agree with the consensus presented here. It's a big store to be sure, but it has NO customer service at all. The first of only three times I have visited Amazing Comics, I brought my enthusiasm for the hobby with me all the way up until I hit the register. Sullen, looking like I was bothering him, the cashier acted like I should have my head examined for DARING to make him do his damn job! That kept me from returning for 4 years. Sure enough I was ready for sirly service, an lo and behold, I bothered another guy who obviously had better things to do than to take customer's money. Amazing? More like Meh... Kealoha and I have been going to Amazing Comics & Cards for years now. If I would have reviewed it when we were first going, I would have awarded about half the amount of stars that I just did. As far as Amazing Comics & Cards goes now? It's still less than average in my opinion for a few reasons: I have a very hard time finding what I am looking for on the wall the way they have it organized. I have a collection of Fables and I never know whether to find it under Vertigo or under DC and I would ask, but... The staff isn't engaging, friendly or outgoing. Most of the comic book stores I have been to over the years have had employees that will make sure you are finding what you are looking for. They see what you are buying and make suggestions. They know their inventory and how it is organized and jump at the chance to help you...especially when you look as lost as I do. I will continue going to Amazing Comics & Cards but I will never walk in without a co-pilot that knows how to navigate the store, I am probably the only person that walks in without any agenda to peruse. This place is totally middle-of-the-road. They've got a pretty good spread of the popular stuff. It's pretty good for spandex. Their indie selection isn't very strong. Not much Asian stuff either. You're not going to find too much that's off the beaten path at this place. The staff is pretty nice. Everything about this place is pretty neutrally "okay," with one exception: it smells. There's an odor in there. Maybe they've taken care of it at this point, but it smelled like rot or mold or decay the last 20 or so times I was there. What's the deal with that? I always love comming here, the shop always keeps things up to date and the organization is great with the comics. The figure selection is pretty dang great and they get a lot of the new stuff in with marvel select, players kia halo... etc... the location is very convenient there are pleanty of shops and a gym so ... you could go work out ,pick up your comics then head over to the deli next door for some grubb. Parking can be a pain pending the day. I have yet to try there ordering process or maybe even there comic book holding. I am pretty sure they are on top of it. If your a pop collector they have plenty and they are well organized so you don't have to deal with going through because some douche hides them. Was just in the store and was not happy with the service. Which is too bad. They had a lot of cool stuff. I was not greeted or talked to once by the staff. Despite wearing a spidergwen hoodie and getting on knees to go through back issues. When I made my way to the front, the guy standing two feet away from me ignored me and started talking to my husband several feet behind me to try and sell him on a book. Even offered to look it up bc it had no price. Still didn't address me or Ask me if I needed or was looking for anything in particular. I've been coming here since 2013; mainly for their funko pop's. One of the reviews stated that they're very honest with their inventory - which I can attest to. They have very reasonable prices! Especially for "Vaulted" and "Chase" pops (vaulted pops are $15, chases range from $20-$100+). I'm a huge collector and this is my go-to whenever I find the time to go on for a hunt. They have plenty of exclusives (e.g. PX previews, Entertainment Earth, Chases, Toys R Us, etc). Their collection never disappoints, especially since they have some of the older pops. read more

This place used to be my favorite place to go. It's selection and layout were top-notch, and even though the customer service sucked (apparently the staff there never could get it in their heads that women read comics), I could navigate it myself with no problem and find what I needed. It was fun to hang there during Anime Expo. However, the economy has hurt the store pretty badly. It's less than half the size it once was, with crappy selection, a seriously lacking Vertigo collection, and the customer service is still horrible. Its saving grace is how close by it is. Times are hard, and I get that, but they need to pay more attention to customer service and work on keeping well stocked on the items more likely to sell out quickly. read more

Accidentally bought the wrong size shirt for a friend. Friend took off tag and as I walked into the store I was getting ready for a big drawn out discussion. Person behind the counter saw the shirt in my hand and before I opened my mouth she asked what size I needed, handing me the new one before I was able to even finish a thought. I've been buying comics, cards, and toys here since I was a kid ( so about 12 years or so ). When I'd come here as a kid, I was intimidated because the people who ran the shop were rude when you asked a question. I just think it's because they have to keep an extra close eye on kids who are browsing in the store after school. I remember my friends used to shoplift here so no wonder they didn't give kids preferential treatment. It wasn't till about I was 17-18 when the service improved. The short lady with the foreign accent always seems happy to help me out. She physically went to the racks and got it for me. Like my wife says,"You'd be surprised what you can get if you simply ask for it." A lot of people confuse bad service, with the lack of asking for stuff. I'm recently getting back into comics and the employees here have been a great help to me. If I ask which book comes next in a series they're always there to help. The main two you'll see if you go in during the day are great. I don't know why people are so tough on them. It only took me a couple visits now I get a smile and a hello from them both. I never once thought of anyone there as rude. Just because someone doesn't want to be your best friends within :30 seconds doesn't mean they're rude. They have what I want in stock and if they don't they get it quickly. It may be half the size from when I used to go in there but I don't mind it at all. Edit: About six months or so after I left my original review they asked me to start working at the shop on Fridays. I don't know why most people seem to have such a personal vendetta against this place. I've been shopping here ever since I started going to CSULB back in 2005 when it was still two stores and have never had a bad experience. The employees are nice and try their best to help whenever I have a question about a toy or comic. It's too bad they had to shrink in size but I'm just glad they didn't leave altogether. Over all, it's a great place to pick up your comics. Plus they're right next door to a pizza joint that sells a great pizza for $5. What more could a guy ask for? read more

I've just purchased my very first Funko Pop thanks to the help of Sam and AJ making me aware of the current 35% discount (after Thanksgivig sale) on the common figures. I wanted the John Wick Pop and being a common figure I thought it would be easy to find, but that's not the case. I went to big box stores, game stores and the mall, but had no success until my friend reminded me of Amazing Comics which I totally forgot about, shame on me, and there it was sitting on the shelf waiting for me to buy him. If the wonderful workers didn't inform me of the sale I wouldn't have taken a second look so props to them on the upsale! These guys are awesome so had to write them a five star review. It's in the plaza across CVS. More selection of toys vs comics. They have a good assortment of small busts and pop vinyl. Small trinkets like key chains, paper wallets, pins, rings, and socks also populate most of their display. They have a larger selection of marvel vs DC. This is more a merchandise store - not that there's anything wrong with that! They have a HUGE selection of action figures and POP Vinyls and other character merchandise. My friend is into Green Arrow - a very difficult character to find merchandise - and we saw at least three different figures. I collect Aquaman and they had three very cool "special" figurines plus other action figures and merchandise. About comics...the current issues are along one wall, back issues are boxed on a very low shelf that are easy to overlook. My friend and I both found elusive back issues so we were thrilled. Staff was friendly and efficient. I know I'll be going back - most likely closer to the holidays - to do gift shopping. read more

Meh. It's close to my house, so in a pinch I'll go there. The staff is friendly, but most of the ones I've spoken to were not very knowledgeable about even major comic series'. My biggest problem was my pull list experience. I had missing issues, they randomly inserted different story-lines, but only one or two, while leaving others out, with no apparent rhyme or reason. VERY frustrating, considering the reason you make a pull list is so that you don't miss things if you can't get to the stores religiously every week. read more

Discovered this place recently while leaving Target in the same plaza. Personally, I disagree with most of the negative feedback for this store from this site and I've been to some truly bad comic book stores before. So here are the Pro's and Con's of my first time experience. Pro's: 1. The staff members are friendly and answered my questions without making me feel dumb. 2. They have tons of new present day comics and graphic novels, which were pretty damn well organized (They also have clearance selections which is a plus). 3. They also carry a wide selection of collectible toys, posters, etc (if your into that kind of stuff). 4. Good atmosphere (My sister felt comfortable being in the store). 5. Store is a decent size and not super small as described from previous reviewers. Con's: 1. Didn't like how they charged a little extra for new comics instead of cover price. (Not a big deal, they have to make profit too) 2. Do not carry vintage comics. (However they do carry some of the graphic novel verisons) 3. Location of the store is a bit awkward to find (Basically if I choose to not take the long way out of the plaza, I would have not even noticed this place). Not the best comic book store ever. I moved from SD to LB about 4yrs ago and I went "comic shop hopping" a couple of times and didn't find a place like "Comics N Stuff" in SD.. until I found Amazing Comics & Cards.. I freakin love this spot! So does my brother! We always try to bring him when he visits.. They have EVERYTHING!! For good prices too! And the workers are nice, which is always appreciated! Sometimes you'll have helpful staff and other times you get to hear the people working the counters laughing at customers on the phone or being rude complaining about their jobs. The store used to be three times it's current size when I first started going there. The shelves are vastly empty compared to how it used to be. They do carry the main companies but the indie section is scarce to nonexistent. Friendly staff always willing to take out the YuGiOh card boxes one at a time for me to browse through their entire collection. They update it every few weeks which is a nice hobby to go through and purchase singles! They also sell card sleeves and other card related merchandise.
