Heard great things about this place and considering they have 3 locations with all 4+ stars I can believe it. However my experience was quite different. I did get there at 4:30 and they close at 6 so I'll take that into account. The guy working the front desk was so patient and accommodating considering he was the only one working in a busy place with the phone ringing non stop. He deserves a raise/bonus for sure I ordered a catfish dinner and oxtail but they were out of oxtail. I got fried honey bbq salmon instead. Catfish and collard greens was yummy, mac n cheese was so cheesy you really didn't get too much noodle. It was pretty overwhelming so I couldn't eat it. The 2 orders of wings I got were plain and spicy. They were pre cooked frozen wings so I wasn't too keen on them considering this is a soul food restaurant. Hopefully they can do better next time. I decided to get fried whiting because I was on the east coast . I got my fish with yams and green beans. The sides were absolutely amazing! That whiting wasn't seasoned well or fried hard. We were craving some soul food and finally decided to try Amazing Taste. Had ordered over the phone and we used the menus that were posted online (google, yelp, etc) unfortunately, these menus were super outdated and their prices had changed... a lot. I had paid over $60 for a plate of oxtail over rice (no additional side includes), a plate of whiting fish with mac and cheese and collard greens, ordered a jerk chicken empanada and banana pudding. Not sure if it was just today that the food was overly salty. I couldn't finished the greens. The oxtail was okay. Yes, they were tender but I wasn't a big fan of the gravy as I've had better. The Mac and cheese was mediocre nothing that made me dream about it at night. The jerk chicken empanada was dry, salty and burnt. The only item I had enjoyed was the banana pudding - maybe it was because everything was so salty that made the banana pudding tasted delicious. Nevertheless, it was a lot of money for the food that I had received. I would feel a bit better if the food was better but sadly everything was just so salty. The service was good and the girl at the cash register was really nice. The restaurant itself is really clean and spacious. An absolute hidden gem! I stopped in to grab some lunch to go after someone recommended Amazing Taste to me and I am so happy they did. I'm not often in South Bound Brook, so I would never have just happened upon it. It's right on Main Street, has a few tables and a very big menu. The owner was in and gave me a few recommendations and customer favorites and let me know I could order through the kiosk. I got the baked chicken platter which comes with two sides. There were so many delicious looking dishes to choose from but I went with candied yams and collard greens. Both were so tasty but the star was the chicken 100%. When I say this meat fell off the bone, I am not kidding. i just lifted the leg and off fell the meat. Oof, it was incredible. I also got a side of rice, and I am kicking myself for not trying the cornbread or banana pudding, but there will be future trips for that. After taking a better look at the menu, I sent my mom back the very next day to pick up some oxtails for herself since I know they are her favorite. So happy to have discovered Amazing Taste! I had this part of a catered event. Once again, I had the jerk chicken as well as the macaroni and cheese. Both were as I remember, but the macaroni seemed better because of it being cheesier and having more flavor. The jerk chicken seemed it had less jerk seasoning and was just spicier. Regardless, it was still tasty and very tender. I also had the baked chicken, which fell off the bone too. It was particularly good. Besides that, I had yellow rice, string beans, and candied yams. The Amazing Taste food is so good, it'll make you want to slap your mama! With that said, there is a surcharge for card transactions - something to the tune of 3.5%. I paid ~$100 for 4 platters and 3 desserts (which is HIGH). The least they could've done was waive the surcharge. The owners should consider revising their payment policy and only apply surcharge for transactions under a certain dollar threshold. That would be more fair to customers. There's no reason to apply a flat rate to each and every purchase. I question whether they end up making more money on the backend due to this surcharge - above and beyond what is needed to cover their card services fees. Or, perhaps they need to negotiate a better deal with their merchant services company. read more

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case during our most recent visit a couple of weeks ago. I ordered the BBQ fried salmon platter, side of potato salad and the fried whiting platter, and was shocked when the total came to over $50. I asked the woman at the counter for an itemized receipt to understand the charges, but was told they could only provide a receipt showing the total amount. When I requested a menu to verify prices, she said they didn't have any available at the moment. I would have pressed further, but I had a crying toddler with me and didn't have the capacity to argue. I'm disappointed. We don't have many local soul food options, and I've always appreciated having this spot nearby. I used to pay around $35 for these same platters, so the price increase feels steep and unexplained. We ordered the baked bbq chicken (Which the kids loved) my wife had the oxtails and rice (Which are the best oxtails I've ever had in my life!!!!!) and I had the whiting, which was delicious . The sides were also great. The Mac is cheese was soooo cheesy and just tasty. The candied yams were perfect. The green beans were fresh and the cornbread is definitely home made. All in all a 5 meal. I placed an order through DoorDash from this for fish whiting with a side of yellow rice and candied yams and I must say the food was really good. I give it a 5 star at least on what I ordered. The only reason I give thus place a 4 star instead of a 5 is because I decided to stop by this location to pick up a side of candied yams which I enjoyed very much, the young lady there told me it was $4.00 but I had mentioned I thought it was $3.00, she then told me it was $3.75 plus tax making it $4.00 hence why she said $4.00. After I was charged and got home I realized she still went ahead and charged me $4.00 plus tax making it $4.14, $0.25 more than what it was. Now $0.25 cent don't break me or make me but it's the principle of her knowingly overcharging me. At the end of the day, it's pricy. 30+ dollars for 2 lunch boxes, I should've gone for McDonald's and shovel 30 McChicken down in my throat. I ordered delivery from Amazing Taste because I was craving Jamaican food, and even though it's not a Jamaican restaurant, it still had jerk chicken and delivered to my house. I'm so glad I decided to give this place a try! The jerk sauce isn't traditional jerk sauce but it was still good, and the chicken was so tender and fell apart easily. I've been eating at amazing taste since they first started. The food is great! I never hesitate to drive from somerset to one of there three locations. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because sometimes the taste of the food isn't consistent. Sometimes the jerk chicken is amazing. Other times it's just okay. Or for another example; the Mac and cheese tends to taste different depending on the store as well. Of course there are different workers, but sometimes you want the north Plainfield jerk but the Mac & cheese in bound brook is better. But other than that I'm happy to see that they're doing well! Looking to try some soul food, and with options pretty limited in the Central NJ area, me and my sister decided to try out Amazing Taste. I ordered the turkey meatloaf with sides of candied yams and jerk French fries. The turkey meatloaf was impressive, particularly how moist it was, which is not easy from a lean protein like turkey. The meatloaf's flavor was delicious, having a hint of sweetness like pork. Candied yams were chunky, sweet, and robustly seasoned with cinnamon; a spice I really enjoy (though some may find it a bit too strong). The jerk fries were interesting as it was wet seasoned and the container had a small portion of liquid jerk gravy at the bottom. I liked the tangy flavor of Amazing Taste's jerk seasoning, but not so much the ensuing sogginess of the fries. My sister ordered the fried Whiting with sides of green beans and mac & cheese. The cornmeal crusted Whiting was perfectly cooked; crispy and crunchy on the outside with the flesh inside flaky and still very moist. The green beans were the perfect complimentary side dish as they were dressed in what tasted like white vinegar. Mac & cheese was good, creamy with a distinctly cheddar flavor, but overall I've had better versions as I think it needed a bit more variation either with introducing an additional type of cheese or adding a crunchy element. For dessert seeing banana pudding on the menu I had to order it, and it was magnificent! In my opinion, Amazing Taste's version matches the Magnolia Bakery gold standard of banana pudding. Magnolia's will bath you with more creamy richness, while Amazing Taste's version is thicker and has a notably bolder banana and vanilla wafer flavor. Finally, service was so friendly. The manager and chef were both genuinely interested in our experience and what we thought about the food. From my first experience Amazing Taste has lived up to its' name. read more

Well well well look who finally got her raggedy behind over to Amazing Taste. Ima be brief. The food is amazing. I got 4 pieces of fried whiting, double Mac and cheese AND double collards. And who I ask gon check me boo? No one. ‍ The texture of the Mac n cheese was just like my mom's and considering she makes the best mac n cheese in all of Wakanda you know it had to be good. Honestly though I'd go back just for the collards. I destroyed them. Somewhere my grandmother is proud that I'm getting my greens and keeping regular. I enjoy this resturants food, the menu is very diverse and should appeal to many different taste. Since I do not use salt in its purest form on or in my food when cooking I have found the food sometimes to be salty but I keep coming back. The people who work there are very nice an courteous. I read another review which said the place was dirty, which is far from the truth as it has always been very clean, if otherwise I would not be a customer. Since I normally get take out I found the place to be clean and adequate Now my real pet peeve is I always pay with cash, as I know that is preferred by most establishments, all I ask for is a receipt which they do not provide? I find that to be disappointing and annoying as I need the receipt for other purposes.
