Oxtails
Jasmine Y.

I really wanted to like this place, but it fell short in some ways but had some positives, too. The total for what I ordered was about $47 after tax. The good: - Oxtails with rice were super tender and yummy. The flavor was great! - Enjoyed the vegetables (collared greens and cabbage) The not so good: - Everything, except the vegetables, was over salted. I didn't mind too much for the rice and oxtails, but the Mac and cheese was straight up one of the saltiest things I've eaten my entire life. Maybe I caught a bad day. Both my mom and I could only take a few bites. It was unfortunate because we agreed if it were salted properly, it would've been amazing! - Service was subpar. The food took awhile to come out. I ordered on UberEats ahead of time for my mom to get it for pickup, but when my mom arrived there was still a wait time of 38 min. The guy working there told my mom it was because I changed the order but left out the part that something I had originally ordered was not available, so I was asked to swap it.

I think the reviews for this place are pretty harsh not going to lie. I can't tell you how much this place really does care about there food. Small menu and the owner is extremely passionate about food. I got the fried chicken and two sides and it was made fresh. Mac and cheese was delicious and side vegetables were incredible. I can't stay enough about the fried chicken. This place is the best place to get soul food in middlesex county by far. I would highly recommend stopping and grabbing a bite to eat. Service is incredible!

Two Piece fried chicken with Yams and Macaroni

I went on a Friday at 5 and it's a 35 minute drive from me,to walk in and get told they had no more sides and were about to close up (40 minutes before closing time) I was referred to this place and desperate to try it considering the pictures and what I was told so I went again Saturday at 12 and they didn't have the meat I wanted so I had to stick with something else. Which was the two piece with yams and macaroni in which I thought would've been two actual separate pieces but I guess chicken wise this is two pieces. The macaroni and Yams were flavorless and I'd think i'd get a discount considering I came the day before for them to have nothing and the day after to not have what is supposed to be on the menu.

Mac and cheese, yams, chicken! I have no regrets! Absolutely delicious

So good! Definitely worth it! Everything was very tasty and flavorful! Great portions and great price! I ordered through Uber Eats

Fried Flounder Sandwich with Mac & Cheese
Bill C.

Tried Dootsies today for the first time. We wanted breakfast but we were too late. So that's what led us to the fried flounder sandwich. Jeffrey (the owner) recommended the flounder. They also offer whiting. The flounder was served on a nice roll with tartar and hot sauce(upon request). The fish was very crispy and flavorful! This was probably one of the best flounder sandwiches that I've ever had.I would have like the roll to be warmed but it didn't really matter since the fish was the star of the show! The macaroni and cheese was very good as well. I would order the Mac again. The restaurant is located on the south Brunswick/East Brunswick border and there's plenty of parking. It wasn't crowded when we dined in but I'd imagine it could get busy since it was a one man operation when we were there. It would be nice if they offered breakfast any time but we would actually like to try some other lunch items. The owner is friendly and we enjoyed our meal and we were happy to support a family owned business. With the Lenten season fast approaching, we will be back for some Friday fish sandwiches for sure. Dootsies is definitely worth a try. We enjoyed talking to the owner as well.

You gotta stop at Cracker Barrel on a road trip!…read more My fiancé and I stopped here for some grub on our journey. At around 1230pm on a Friday there was no wait at all! We started with cheesey curds that were very delicious and crisp. For my entree I had the classic chicken sandwich and it was very good. I asked for crispy fries and they were perfect! My fiancé ordered steak and eggs. He said his steak was a little tough but not terrible. He said he wished it was a little more tender. He really enjoyed the hashbrown casserole saying it was the best he's had out of all the Cracker Barrel's we've been to. The biscuits were also really good! Very soft and not dry. Our waitress was Jessica, and she checked in often. The bathrooms were very clean as well!

She usually orders this and likes it a lot. She also got 2 sides which were mac and cheese and carrots. Hubs got the Garden Scramble, which has roasted mushrooms, spinach, red peppers and onions and melted pepper Jack cheese served over three scrambled eggs. He said that this was better than expected. He got two sides with this but his sides were limited, so that was a disappointment. The only two sides he was allowed to get were fried cinnamon apples and hash brown casserole. The sides tasted like they were made in the morning. It was a disappointment. Lastly, I ordered the Louisiana Shrimp Skillet, which has grilled shrimp in a zesty Creole sauce with seasoned rice and grilled parmesan bread. This was a lot better than expected. Usually, chains serve seafood that are overcooked but this was just right. I also got two sides which were dumplings and turnip greens. The dumplings were a disappointment. I think I got the bottom of the pot. Turnip greens were ok, though. There was only one server for the whole place that night, so it was a little difficult flagging him down. He was always in the kitchen. Other than that, service was friendly!

It's a typical diner with breakfast and brunch items being slightly better than other food options. Today I ordered the turkey burger And I was pleasantly surprised. Payment via credit card card is charged an additional 3.99%, so it's worthwhile to bring cash. There is outdoor seating for the nicer weather days. The owner and service are both friendly and nice.

I was there with two friends, my first time there, and they shared that it is a historic spot, and it sure shows. Nice throwback to an earlier time. I can't recall what breakfast I ordered exactly, but it was pretty good quality, and it was served pretty quickly. Overall, a nice spot that I appreciated and would visit again. Lots of your standard diner options on the menu, and I think it's pretty good for what it is. We were there pretty early, so not a lot of people in there, but plenty of space inside too. It's located in a nice spot in the center of town, and at least at the time there was plenty of street parking. No dedicated parking lot as far as I could tell, but street parking wasn't too hard.

I got the 4x2 and the pancakes were indeed, as the counter people assured us, were "the best you've ever had". I believe they are correct. After selecting our breakfast options, which would be made easier with a flow chart on the menu, we enjoyed some fine coffee and an interrogation on our comings and goings. When they learned we were on our way to Fredericksburg and we engaged in Civil War topics, they must have heard the bell for the end of history class. They did keep checking on us. The eggs and sausage were fine. The bacon could have been cooked more and, thou we asked for onion and peppers, they were not added. I'm not sure how much it would have helped - they needed some zest. In the end, of the 4 breakfast places we had the pleasure of eating at over the Memorial Day weekend, this was the best.

The absolute best diner I've been to…read more The place itself is stunning. It's newly renovated but still has a diner feel, just with some upgrades like a live DJ and a solarium-like addition. Parking is also highly convenient. The menu is extensive and I can't wait to go back to try everything they have. There are the classic breakfast items of course, but they also have some innovative dishes or familiar dishes with a spin. I ordered the jerk chicken pasta which was spicy, so flavorful and also a great portion size. Others in our party ordered pancakes, which were so fluffy, eggs, fried chicken, fried catfish and more. Everything was fried to perfection and the catfish tasted like it had literally just jumped out of the ocean. Our waiter was super nice and we had a big party so I'm sure it wasn't easy. My only suggestion is that they make their hot drinks hotter. Other than that, I'd seriously come back every weekend.

READ FULL REVIEW!!!…read more March 2026: First time at this establishment was just ok. Hosted a very small get-together here (5 guest). Atmosphere was nice. Music was wayy too loud to hear the person you're sitting next to. Food was tasty and fresh. Coffee was good with great creamer selection (at the time). Our server was my least favorite part of this experience. He was over the top with his energy and upscale tactics (pushy with getting us to order extra drinks and appetizers despite declining). I was hosting this event and did not need him selling us after already being told "no, thank you" twice. It was awkward and ultimately changed the vibe. He hardly checked on us after that encounter and we constantly had to remind them about request that were never brought out to the table. Staff needs to be trained better. This was just an ok experience. April 2026 : What ultimately lead me to write this review was my 2nd experience at this diner. The server was a lot better than our first experience, but we did run into a few too many problems. First, we ordered coffee and are informed that per managements request, we can only have half-half or cream with our coffee. Previously they had French vanilla creamers and other flavored creamers but I guess management decided to save on the additional cost. This was a bummer especially realizing that they could easily afford creamers. This restaurant easily pulls at least $150,000 per week in revenue, so I didn't understand cheapening out like that. I still ordered the coffee. When it came to the table I added the cream into the cup only to find something floating in the coffee. I send it back and ask for a new cup, which the server politely provided. We order our meals and all goes well. Eventually two of the three meals come out and we wait for the final plate to come out. It's common courtesy to wait for everyone to have their meal before eating, so we wait. We wait about 6-7 minutes and the final plate comes out only for it to be cold. All of us ordered breakfast, so you can imagine trying to eat cold egg, potato, and sausage. We ask for the waiter, but before he could get to us the manager passes by and we let him know the issue. He takes the plate to the back and about two minutes later he comes back with the same exact plate. Before the manager arrived to take the plate away, I saw the guest split the egg half and add black pepper on everything so we knew it was the same plate and food she started eating off of that was reheated onto the kitchen grill where other food is being prepared for guest. The manager informs us that he had the chef heat the food up on the griddle and that it should be a perfect temperature. We refuse to accept the plate because it was reheated and not remade entirely. We were shocked that this was the solution even being offered. Reheating food on the griddle seemed unsafe (contamination risk, diseases, illness, etc) and offensive. No one pays these prices to have reheated breakfast served to them. I could've just made that at home for a fraction of the price. We politely refuse the reheated plate and he apologized and took the plate to the back. The server comes over to see what the issue is and we explain everything. He says that he will look into it and take that meal off the bill. Now I'm frustrated because one out of the three of us aren't eating anything and the experience was off. At this point, I'm not eating my meal but the 3rd guest is eating. So the guest who sent their plate back and myself are waiting for the 3rd guest to finish their pancakes. He ordered a stack of 4-5 chocolate chip pancakes and was happily eating away at layer by layer. Eventually he gets to the last 2 pancakes and before he adds syrup he notices what appeared to be an eyelash or short piece of hair imbedded in the pancake. Picture of the clearly imbedded hair included with this review. He immediately stopped eating and looks sick. He had already eaten 3-4 pancakes by then and the idea that he ate more of whatever that was felt unnerving, to say the least. We both start looking to see what he's looking at and long behold the hair was there. At this point we are extremely frustrated and completely over this experience. Management did not make this experience right even after addressing all of these issues both separately and together. I felt like my money was not valued and my business certainly wasn't. They did nothing to remedy these issues and I will NOT be going back to this establishment. This restaurant may look visually beautiful but the service is not. Staff needs more training, music needs to be turned down, chefs need to wear hairnets and everyone needs to follow safe food handling skills. You're putting your guest and your business at risk ignoring these issues. I really really wish I had a better experience.
