Cancer Patient Refused $500 Refund - Poorly Done Microblading…read more I am a recently diagnosed cancer patient that was seeking to get my eyebrows microbladed. I went to Maria @mariialash for microblading/"nano brows". Her price for this service is $500. I wanted to get this done prior to starting chemo so I could still have natural-looking brows during treatment. Unfortunately, 100% of the pigment that Maria put on my eyebrows fell out, despite following her care instructions. I informed her of this and sent a photo of my plain brows, stating that I am starting treatment any minute and will be unable to do anything that may compromise my immune system such as getting a tattoo, for at least the next year. At this time I requested a refund. She has refused to disperse a refund stating that her disclaimers her clients sign state this could happen. A flimsy "disclaimer" does not excuse a business from providing good service and exercising good judgement. I do not recommend trusting Maria with your money nor your brows.

I had a hard time finding an artist who was in my budget especially because I was just getting my hair and makeup done, none of my bridesmaids or family, and many artists have really high minimums. I'm thankful for Victoria because she could come to my hotel and get me ready and I looked absolutely amazing on my wedding day - my dream look was really achieved. She took my feedback and suggestions really well. She was always very sweet and kind. However, I had some problems leading up to the day that meant I can't leave a 5 star review... I had some communication problems because my emails would sometimes bounce back and my calls go to a phone no longer in service - one time I even had to reach out to her on Facebook to get in touch with her (after I had paid). I booked my trial with her and drove from where I live in DC down to Richmond (even staying in a hotel overnight) and she wasn't there. I was truly shocked. She was very apologetic and came up to meet me in my apartment in DC for my trial instead, but it left a pretty bad impression and made me very anxious for my wedding day. I'm really glad I did the trial because there were some things I wanted to fix for the wedding day (all of which she achieved, except for having the fake eyelashes be a bit too long so they butted up against my glasses, which I pointed out for the trial but was still a problem on the wedding day. I've had my makeup done for other weddings and the fake eyelashes weren't a problem then, so I know shorter ones exist...) Thankfully, she was better at communicating over text after that and showed up on time for my wedding day and everything worked out really well, so all's well that ends well, but there were some bumps in the road.

This is truly a one stop shop! Spray Tan - I originally came across scissors because I was going to an early spring wedding and needed a spray tan. I don't put much stock in spray tan booths because it always comes out uneven and splotchy so I really needed someone who would spray it on me. I made an appointment with Allison and she gave me a tan that was even better than I imagined! She went to great lengths to make sure I felt comfortable and everything was done upstairs away in a private area. I was so pleased with the tan I ended up staying and getting some highlights. Highlights - Allison really listened and understood exactly what I wanted for my hair. I got really natural highlights that were so good that the person who did my hair for the wedding asked where I got them done. I was so pleased I brought my very picky mother in for a cut and color. Cut - My mother has REALLY thick hair and she's picky about cut and coloring. I got her an appointment with Simone (different strokes for different folks, I knew my mother would prefer someone who was older whom she felt she could connect with more) She loved what Simone was able to do with her hair as far as thinning and cutting, I don't remember exactly the name of what she did but no matter what you get done Simone is very attentive as well in listening to what you really want. Up-Do's & Make-up - Simone made me feel like a complete princess when I got an up-do and make-up done for a night out. Check out their website and facebook pages for more pics (I'll post one here too) but it doesn't get any better than this. She took extra time to make sure I was happy and the whole look was just right. That said I've also had my lip waxed and gotten pedicures too. They also recommended a shampoo & conditioner that have done wonders for my hair! Plus the hours are great because I can make it after work! I really love the atmosphere, the charm and attitudes that go with the great services. Simone & Allison know me when I come in, they ask about things in my life and offer me something to drink, and it's those small touches that are lost in other places which makes Scissors Hair Studio exceptional.
