Our cottage had a very nice porch that we spent a good portion of the weekend relaxing on. The cottage also had a nice fireplace we took advantage of. The meals in particular were a highlight and exceeded expectations. The breakfasts served in our cottage were utterly phenomenal. Every morning was a delight. Each stay, they cook one dinner for guests. That meal also stood out to us as special. It held its own against many of the fine dining restaurants in Chicago. The surprise cookies we got each afternoon were such a nice touch. They were also so very friendly and we felt so welcome there. There was a positive energy that there that was very contagious.

Like we were the only people on the property. When we arrived, our key was in a gift bag with cookies and a flashlight. Plus a note with some instructions. Breakfast and dinner magically delivered to our door. Maybe by fairies since no one was there when I'd haul it into the room. Place your dirty dishes and tray in the same spot and they disappear again. It was amazingly refreshing to not have to deal with other humans. Magical Want a gift from the general store? The room is small but adequate for two people. It is nicely decorated and had a small reading nook. There is a small private balcony. The muffins provided for breakfast were yummy! We only had a couple of issues. The first was that the bathroom sink is located inside the room. I'm sure this was necessary due to the limitations of restoring a building this age. Our main complaint was the loud music that was played in the afternoon. I am not sure if this is a regular thing or just rude guests, but it was loud enough we could not rest after our long drive. If this was just rude guests, I can put it down to "people are people." If this was, however, a regular afternoon thing for the Inn, I would suggest the music be turned down or that guests booking Room 1810 be forewarned. All that being said - we think the Inn is a great asset to Mineral Point.

My room was near the exit and all I heard was the slamming of the door all night. Also many people sitting by the entrance smoking and being a bit loud. I was not well rested. I thought the bed and pillows were pretty comfortable but my wife didn't agree. The breakfast was very good and had a good selection. Now for the bad, the heating system was super loud and woke me up every time it kicked in. I know earlier I said that the place was clean, and I stand by that, but we did see one thing that was pretty gross. Our room window was right above the awning for the front entry and when we were getting ready to leave I noticed there was a badly decomposing either huge mouse or small rat right outside our window. I am not one of those people that fools themselves and thinks that most hotels don't have rodents, but when I told the guy at the front desk I didn't get an apology or anything. All he said was, "Ewwww, thanks for letting me know." Seriously?? All that being said is we will probably be back, but only due to lack of options.
