I give this a 4.5 rating. Our rooms were very clean, and it was a great spot to stay last minute. The rooms need a bit of updating, but again; it was very nice. We were on the lower level. My reason for deducting a half star is that it was very very chilly, and there's not a thermostat to be found/heat control in the rooms. They might want to consider putting in some kind of additional heating for during the winter. Other than that, we had a lovely stay and would definitely stay again! read more

My wife and I stayed there in early November for a week. The room we were in was spacious and stylishly renovated. We took advantage of the $10 per person daily credit at the restaurant next door (Big Bill's) for breakfast and lunch. The location is perfect as it's on Main Street in Galena and every place is within walking distance. There was free parking in the rear. The only downside was that we weren't able to bring our dog, but we knew that before we booked the stay. Overall it was a great value. We'd definitely stay there again! read more

I was a former Inn Keeper/Proprietor. I come back every now, and again to see how the building is doing, and if it is still an Inn. When I was the Owner, it was known as "The Olde Town Inn". Looks the same, except the white tin ceilings. (From what I can see from some of the pictures.) We had painted the Original Tin Ceilings in a Green,and Red,it's time period colors. Also, had more antiques as decor, in trying to keep with the time period. This building dates back to the 1800's. It was Originally the towns grocery store. This building is haunted, and we experienced many Paranormal happenings. Nothing bad. Sighting of the old grocer at the top of the steps at the upper level. My children had seen him as well. Foot steps when there was no one in the building but us. At first, very startling, but we got used to things happening after a while. The building is very old so the floors do squeak. What does anyone expect from a very old,magnificent building. The Original grocery store owners occupied the very top floor of the grocery store, hence that's why it's more of an "apartment" type of a room. My 2 children, and I occupied the top floor a lot, even though we did also own a vacation home in Galena. We spent many a night in this magnificent old building! What better place to stay in Galena, then right on Main Street. If you are a History buff, love old Architecture,and buildings, this is your place! It's a lot of work to be an Inn Keeper. I worked many, many hours alone at this Inn (why I had sold) with my 2 young children at the time, who are now grown, 33 and 29 years old. We made a lot of fun memories in this building! Really enjoyed being downtown. The private parking is worth a lot. These are old historic buildings and you get to stay in one! Super comfortable bed which is a must in our book. Nice big apartment great view. Lots of space for downtime. Stairs and winding hallways are part of the charm of these old buildings. It is worth it to be on the top floor. read more

We loved our stay at the 305 North Inn, Suite 3! My mom and I stayed on a busy weekend in December when their shopping was at its peak! Because parking was so packed (literally not a spot to be found) we were fortunate to have our own reserved spot in the parking lot behind the Inn. The Inn is conveniently located right off Main Street so we walked everywhere. Big Bill's Sandwich Shop is right next door and has the best breakfast, coffee, and lunch! The exposed brick and beams in our room made for such a warm and cozy stay. The fireplace in our Suite warmed up the space quickly so you there's no need to worry about the historic old building being drafty. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and our host was very accommodating! read more

We had the pleasure of staying here while in Galena for a wedding. The proximity to the downtown is unmatched! As soon as you step out you are right on the main strip of downtown Galena. The owners have done an incredible job keeping the inn true to the time period. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the true to time period details that were preserved. We had the chance to chat with the owners and they were so kind and helpful. They gave us great recommendations for enjoying all galena has to offer. This is now 305N. Changed names a few years ago. I have never stayed in a B&B before...and to be honest, I dont really think its my style but we decided to give it a whirl. Now, I also dont think this is a traditional B&B... PROS Great location. Right on main, walk to everything you would want to in Galena. Parking in the back Hot tub, fireplace, bathroom and TV in rooms...well in #4. But most have these features Continental breakfast included Desk person, David is really nice. CONS Old, like dirty old...not cute, vintage old. It seemed very run down and like no love has went into it for awhile. I accidentally found someone's black mismatched socks sticking out of the love seat while we were sitting on it...definitely grossed me out. They clearly didnt clean well. I wasnt digging in the couch...they were just sitting there. On top of that, there was a bottle cap on the floor in the bedroom and hair all over the bathroom floor. I felt gross... Definitely can hear people above you. We were on the main floor...and could hear the people above us in the hot tub and in the bedroom... The bedding wasnt plush or nice. It was like old stuff at your grandmas. Pillows were deflated and old. Carpeting was DIRTY and hardwood floors looked like they were water damaged or even moldy, eekk. Overall, I dont think I would do a B&B again...we like nice, modern hotels. You can check out my pics of the place...its run down. Needs a little face lift...just looks like no one really cares about it. We contemplated getting in our car and driving home because we just felt meh...alas, it was late and a long drive so we closed our eyes and hoped to get some sleep...popping up first thing in the AM and driving home. read more

Location is why we chose this place. Parking in the back, cute back porches off the rooms. Really big in room jacuzzi tubs. Fits 2 comfortably. This place is clean and still embraces the "old charm" with the tin ceilings. The owner is friendly and accommodating. One thing I can appreciate is that they have good towels/linens. They are NOT those thin crappy white ones that barely dry you off. And they give you extra towels for the jacuzzi!! Good job 305!! Don't expect a full b&b style breakfast, he puts out some good items, bottle oj, fresh fruit, yogurt, mini muffins. He also told us about the diner a block over that was good. If you are looking for a bed and breakfast, this is definitely not the place to go. You get a bed but you don't get a breakfast. The extent of their breakfast is a keurig, yogurt, and a piece of pumpkin bread. The owners do not live at the inn so there is rarely any staff members there. The young gal that took care of us was nice but she brought her 2 young children with her every time she was working which seemed a little unprofessional. She and her children were eating McDonald's breakfast one morning while my fiancé and I enjoyed our coffee and one piece of bread. Kind of odd. Location is great, the inn itself is old and could use a deep cleaning. A little expensive for what it was. read more

We decided on a trip for our anniversary to Galena, IL. I searched the galena site to check out all the B&B's. The prices were a bit up more than I wanted to pay per night. Everyone kept telling me about downtown Galena, that is where most of the action takes place. So 305N was perfect because it was downtown Galena and the cost was reasonable. We were late to arrive but we called to tell them and arrangements were made for us to still be able to get into our suite. The suite was clean and comfy. We were walking distance to everything (food and shopping). Most of the street parking is limited so we left our vehicle at 305N and walked everywhere with no worries. A few weeks back I stayed at the 305n for a short getaway. The location is great since its located on Main st. which is walking distance to everything in downtown Galena. Disappointed. Arrived in Galena earlier than the couple we were meeting and we had a two room suite reserved. We arrived at the hotel and found everything locked up. Went up to the door that said enter and it was also locked but saw a man inside looking out at us but he made no attempt at seeing what we needed. We had parked in the back lot reserved for the hotel guests and decided we would walk around and wait for our friends. We decided we would call the B&B (loose description) to let them know we parked there and we were guests. The guy on the phone was so rude it was incredible. When we finally did check in, he was still rude and should probably find another line of work. As far as the hotel itself, I would not call it a B&B. In the morning we found our own coffee which is just a Keurig down in the lobby. The same guy finally showed up as we were leaving for the WONDERFUL Bakery which is right next door. He put out some OJ and sliced up a pound cake or something. That was the breakfast both days. As others have said the room needs some TLC. Ceiling fan was really dirty and the towels smelled skunky like they sat in the washer too long. The room was large but the bathroom was very tiny. The door into the place went right into one of the bedrooms and the other bedroom was across the living room. The issue here is that if someone wanted to go down for morning coffee or come in late, they have to come and go thru the first bedroom. The only amenities in the room are some soap and shampoo, No hair dryers. The only reason it gets two stars is the fact it is right on main street and close to all the shops and restaurants. Had we had someone who was nice hosting the place it may have gotten another half star. read more

When planning a trip to Galena to celebrate our anniversary, my husband and I were looking for a place to stay that was 1) within walking distance of the many bars, restaurants and shops in downtown Galena, 2) had a private whirlpool hot tub 3) didn't look like it was decorated by someone's Grandma and 4) wasn't too expensive. 305 North met those requirements, and in addition has (gas) fireplaces and flat screen TVs in the rooms, free parking and free Wi-Fi, and a daily continental breakfast included in the price of the room. We stayed in Suite 5. As for the breakfast, this is not the traditional sit-down hot breakfast you might get at a traditaionl B&B. It much more closely resembles the type of continental breakfast you would get at a hotel like the Holiday Inn. Which is perfect for me, as I am not a huge breakfast person. I just need fresh coffee (which they have via one of those Keurig dealies) and something to nibble on. We would definitely stay here again, and highly recommend this place to friends. read more

Not a bed and breakfast because there wasn't a breakfast. It was instant oatmeal, green bananas, and kuerig coffee. Pictures on website were slightly misleading. However, the tubs were fantastic. The receptionist was nice, but wasn't at the desk often. However, it was a cheaper option than other places and is right next to all the businesses. Galena is a great getaway for a couple. read more

We stayed at this bed and breakfast the Saturday before Memorial day. It was a cute vintage bed and breakfast and we loved the appearance once we got there. The location is great since it's right on main street and the hotel has private parking. The parking was a little small, but not too bad. We ended up staying in a 2 bedroom suite. This hotel does not come with any big frills but definitely does the job. It was a little small for 4 people, but was comfy. The only issue we really ran into was that it was not comfortable for 4 people to sit and watch TV. as there is a two seater couch and a giant ottoman. Once it was time for bed, it was a little disappointing that you could hear the people walking on the squeaky floors above you (this would be no problem on the top floor) and the beds were a bit hard, but otherwise I slept fine. Another disappointment was the breakfast. I am used to hotels having terrible "continental breakfasts", but when you advertise yourself as a bed and breakfast, you should include an actual breakfast. They only had a few cheap pastries, oatmeal, bananas, juice, and a keurig for coffee. I hope the owner reads this and adds to the menu, especially since they have a great bakery next door that could maybe cut them a good deal on some of their great pastries every morning. Overall I would say we got what we paid for. Most two bedroom hotels were much more expensive in the area and that was our main concern, so I'm okay with the price paid and honestly I would consider staying here again. read more

We stayed at 305N for the night of Luminaria and Interactive Windows, usually I stay elsewhere but it was booked for a wedding....that fact turned out to be a blessing, for 305N is a jewel! The rooms are clean, very comfortable, and romantic. The desk clerk (owner?) David was very pleasant and helpful. The only thing that kept it from a full 5 stars was the lack of maid service (towels, toiletry, ect). Fortunately there is a wonderful bakery right next door because 305N isn't a true B&B in breakfast sense. It is located right at the end of Main Street so you are right in the middle of the action. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again and would highly recommend it. read more
