Island Distillers is located in Hawaii-Kai; very close to everything, yet feels so far away. It's located at the end of a cul-du-sac with free street parking and marked spots just off the road. The gate is welcoming with painted yellow slippahs to guide your way. The main building is the actual distillery; you can peek inside and see where all the work is done. They do offer tours, but you have to schedule ahead of time (this would be a great activity to plan for visitors). The next building is the store and tasting room. It's well lit with natural sky lights. The bar is along the back, here you can try all their liquors. As of this writing, they have Coconut Vodka, Hibiscus Vodka, and the only known Hawaiian spirit known as Okolehao (this was my favorite). In the coming months they will also offer different varieties of rum. The owner was very friendly and ready to talk about their products and story of the location. He had fresh bananas hanging to enjoy as well as a large selection of bottles to buy to-go and clothing items with their well designed logos. Be sure to check in on Yelp for a free shot glass! The outdoor lanai has a number of tables all shaded next to a pond, waterfall, and garden. On the hill is sugarcane. He will be serving free pizzas to compliment the alcohols; be sure to keep an eye out for updates. This is a wonderful stop for anyone that enjoys locally made goods and wants to get away from town for an hour or so.

After looking online for…read moresome more information on the winery, I came across their advertised tour and tasting for $32pp and purchased the reservation for the following afternoon. Oeno Winemaking is tucked into an industrial area just off the exit into Kailua. With that being said, it's not the most picturesque part of the island, nor would I say it's designed for consumers to easily visit. Parking is a concern as Oeno did not have any reserved spaces for it's customers. Therefore, I had to park a little bit away and needed to ensure that I would not be towed for parking in another business's spaces. Regarding the tasting and tour itself, I was the only person there during the scheduled time. The place itself is a section of the shared warehouse. There is no vineyard, so all grapes are imported from elsewhere. They do, however, have several fruit wines using foodstuff procured from the islands. Despite purchasing a tour and tasting, there was no tour, which I consider to be rather deceptive. The tasting consisted of 6 pours from the the attached list. Of those, I tried several with varying experiences. The best 3, in my opinion, were Watermelon Lavender, "Bass" Akwards, and Orange Chocolate with the last being the best of the bunch due to a near perfect combination of sweet and savory with a warmness provided by the brandy. Despite the disappointment with the lack of a tour, service provided by Tom was superb. He was pleasant to talk to and was able to answer the majority of my questions while we watched a portion of the World Cup game. I recommend to Oeno Winemaking to clarify what exactly people are paying for with the tour and tasting reservation considering the tour actually wasn't performed. I'd adjust the pricing to reflect such changes. Worth checking out? Sure. Could've been better? Absolutely.

Seating is limited, which adds to the intimate feel. When we arrived, only about four tables were occupied, so we were seated right away. We chose to sit outside, but indoor seating was also available. Parking was easier than expected. There is plenty of street parking out front, along with a lot behind the building. Both are metered, but when we went the meters in the back lot were out of order, so we lucked out. They offer wine by the glass with 2 oz and 6 oz pours, or you can grab a full bottle. We went with four 2 oz pours so we could try a few different options, which was a great way to mix it up without committing to one bottle. We also ordered the beet salad for $14, which was super fresh and well balanced. The light vinaigrette did not overpower anything and really let the beets, mixed greens, and feta shine. Simple, but done right. The staff mentioned they host wine tasting events on Wednesdays, which definitely sounds worth checking out next time. Overall, prices felt reasonable and the atmosphere was on point. It is a great spot for a relaxed night or casual date. The only downside is the bathroom situation. It is a shared restroom outside of the space, and when we went it was not in great condition. It was not well stocked and pretty messy. Not really the bar's fault, but something to be aware of. Would definitely come back.

We waited for at least 30 minutes but still didn't get it on the table. We noticed the lady who was supposed to be in the kitchen and cook was sitting with customers and started vaping. Owner joined this table and chatting with them. We were forgotten. He finally came around to our table so I stopped him and asked about our grilled sandwiches. Instead of apologizing for the delay, he said his kitchen does not have capabilities to make more than 2 sandwiches at the time when it was clear that they forgot our orders. We saw owner was talking to the cook lady and pointed at us. After a while, she decided to go in the kitchen. It took another great moment until our sandwich was served. No apology it enjoy your meal from her.
