Came here on a Friday night recently to catch a movie as it was one of a few locations showing a movie we were looking to catch at a specific time. The theater itself was fairly empty and the movie going experience was fairly standard in terms of the accommodations, screen size, sound, etc. The staff were quick and helpful. We ordered some popcorn, which was decent and pretty much what you would come to expect with food at a movie theater or any venue where the entertainment is more of the attraction than the food. read more

A shame that this theater is most convenient to my apartment. Besides shabby and dated, the staff I encountered have the blatant attitude of 'doing you a favor' by doing their jobs. Is there a manager here?! So I walk into Theater 1 about 25 minutes prior to the start of my film. It was dark. Seats aren't marked. I fiddled with my phone to figure out my aisle. Five minutes later more people arrived. Still limited visibility. They too, couldn't find their seats. One eagle-eyed patron noticed the carpet where -- aha! -- the aisles are marked. The screen finally illuminated with the usual ads and coming attractions. No sound. Grr.... I give the place three stars because the screen was large and once there was sound, it was relatively comfortable. Plus -- no reflection of the venue -- the movie was good! read more

We were excited to come here for the 20th Anniversary screening of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, showing on their biggest screen. But the aspect ratio of the screen was set for the wrong format and half the picture was being projected onto the black side curtains, destroying the cinematography. Nobody bothered to fix this until an hour past showtime when the curtains finally opened. I see a lot of bad reviews here about this theater being neglected and that was clearly evident tonight. A cinema that doesn't care about Star Wars is not a real cinema. Very disappointing. read more

AMC Orpheum has been my neighborhood favorite for years. I used to live around the corner and I spent a lot of time watching movies in the winter. I returned yesterday to see the movie One Love. I was assisted promptly and the employee was very nice. My only complaint was the theater was very warm and stuffy on the bottom floor. There wasn't any air circulating. Otherwise it was clean and comfortable. I remembered what fun it is to watch on the big screen. The previews looked enticing. I went ahead today and updated my AMC Stubs Account. I'm planning to go on Tuesdays when I can get the best price for my seat!! I'm glad this theater survived Covid and I hope it remains in business. It's a short walk from my apartment! read more

Rat infested dump with food crumbs and drink spills on the floor. Terrifying hygiene.

It seems to be a popular theater. Unfortunately, it's pretty filthy and hasn't been renovated for decades.

Used to love coming to this theater. Been in the area for a long time. It is 3 floors. The 2nd floor has no theaters on it just some games and advertisements for upcoming movies. The basement level has a few theaters and used to have a concessions stand. This stand has been closed for a few years now and its sad because if you want a last min drink or good and your movie is on this level you have to go back up to the top floor to get that. There are bathrooms and a water fountain on the basement floor. This theater has really gone downhill through out the past few years. They do not, at least not to my knowledge have recliner seats like most of the other AMC's have. It's not kept in good shape. As you can maybe see in one of the pictures here there is a small puddle on the floor and it just looks dirty. There is no sign that says watch out/ wet floor or anything. Last time I saw a movie here I saw a mouse in the basement floor theater. I know this is NYC but I have been to other AMC's and they are much nicer and I had not seen any mice or rats in them. Went here to watch the stranger things finale with my friends, this past Wednesday. We walked in and genuinely felt like we were in the set of stranger things, 1980s, Hawkins, because of how dingy and outdated the theatre was. It's like the backrooms. Once we got to our seats, they were practically fully plastic and we were unable to recline (we were in the second row). The popcorn was mid. The line for food was outrageous but Richard was goated in the cashier. read more

Nicole Kidman was right -- heartbreak CAN happen in a place like this. I am 53 and have been going to this theater since I was 23 but today was the last day. Absolutely disgusting and AMC should be ashamed of itself. This is why we don't we don't GO to theaters anymore. The loud creaky slamming door sounded like a gun shot every single time someone came into or left the theater. The seats and capeting have NOT been updated since the 80s. I have attended multiple screenings at this, my local theatre, and have had multiple issues. First, many breaches of moviegoing etiquette. People on their phones; people running up and down the aisle of the auditorium, and the auditorium doors frequently not closing; someone throwing a large package down the aisle from the doorway. Second, the seat where I most recently sat needs to be repaired or replaced. I have also heard of A/C and rat issues. Mice! Need I say more? Another reviewer mentioned that they were on the basement level, but this was in auditorium 3 on the street level. It's tough to enjoy a movie when you've got those critters running around. Additionally, the screen itself had some type of tear or mark that was distracting during the movie. I really want to like this theater because it's very convenient for me, but this has to be the worst AMC in Manhattan. I'm an amc stubs holder, so I see a lot of movies at various AMC's around the city. This theater is old, the seats are not comfortable and some of them even broken (which, if you're reserving seats beforehand, is a problem). The floor is also sticky a lot of the time. The worst problem is the RATS! The last two movies I've seen 4 rats scurrying about while the movie was playing. Others noticed, some left. Not the type of environment you want to watch a movie in. Needs serious renovation and cleaning. read more

I have been frequenting this theater my entire life and it is too bad that it is by far the worst AMC, if not movie theater of any kind, in Manhattan. It has not been updated in over 20 years, and one feels extremely unsafe being here. The other AMCs in Manhattan are much better. This is taking a step back in time, reminds me of a theater in the small town of 3500 I visited as a kid to see my Grandma. No stadium seating...nor big Imax screen here folks. I agree with the other reviews that the theater seats aren't updated but I liked that about it. It reminded me of how comfortable and wide old theater seats used to be. Sat through a 2 1/2 hour movie and didn't feel sore, I'm usually moving around trying to readjust myself in the newer seats. Film was projected on Laser like the newer theaters; though I really wish, and this goes for all AMCs, that they invested in better sound. Every screening except for Dolby seems flat and boring and low. This feels like a conscious decision rather than a Stereo/Dolby debate. Staff was great, you could tell it is a neighborhood theater as they seemed accustomed to children and parents. Only suggestion is that it could be cleaner. But that may be a staffing issue. I saw 4 people working there. Not enough staff for a large theater like the Orpheum 7 dealing with children and their messes. Theater was clean, the concession area and the bathrooms could be better. read more

It is weird and more than a little sad that this is the only movie theater on the Upper East Side. To put it nicely, it has seen better days. To put it honestly, it's shabby, rundown, and weirder than it needs to be. First, the weird--AMC Orpheum allows random street salespeople to sit in its lobby and try to sell power to moviegoers. Last Sunday, the salesman was sitting on a stool 5-10 feet from the entry. I almost handed him my ticket. He explained that he did not work for the theater, he worked for a power company. He asked to see my recent electric bill so that he "could save me money every month." I declined. (Reminder: THIS IS TAKING PLACE INSIDE OF THE THEATER IN FRONT OF THE TICKET AREA). Insisting, he told me "Dude, you're getting f***ed by your power company." Though statistically this is probably true, I was just trying to make my movie in time for the previews. AMC, stop letting street sellers use your lobby to harangue your customers. In the wild, New Yorkers are trained to avoid the clipboard-wielding hucksters. But when you allow them to sit on stools in your entrance, you confuse us. We lose our ability to ignore and walk past and get stuck in annoying situations. That was a bad start. The rest did not improve. Everything from the carpets to the bathrooms to the theaters themselves feel dingy and dirty. The seats give stale public transit vibes. The dusty nylon brought back memories of my riding in my grandma's hooptie in the early 90's (both were well past their prime even then). On a questionably positive note, my seat was broken, which allowed me to recline back at a weird and deep angle. The whole experience was a reminder of why New Yorkers do not go to the movies in the city. You're better off waiting until you visit your relatives somewhere in a spacious suburb or just waiting it out for Netflix. read more

Dirty, worn down & outright disgusting theater. The seats were super uncomfortable and filthy. Had I not spent $50 I would've walked out and never looked back. This has been my most uncomfortable movie theater experience in my 31 years of life. I felt dirty just sitting on the seats. Soon as I got home I washed off the dirty feeling this theater gave me. This is the probably the worst AMC in NYC and possibly the worst AMC ever. It either needs a complete remodel or to be condemned. I will go out of my way to go to a different theater because this one is so bad. The lobby is filthy including the floors. It smelled like a swimming pool inside. The carpet throughout the whole place needs to be replaced. The cloth seats in the theaters are old and dirty. The digital signs outside the theaters weren't working, so it was hard to tell if you were in the right theater. The water fountains were out of order. The downstairs area has no cell phone reception, and the WiFi doesn't work. I've seen other reviews and news articles saying that this place is rat infested. AMC, do better. read more

It was a muggy, hot and humid day. We got here early to get tickets and then enjoy breakfast/brunch. Not many people online. Only one guy at the cash register. He was really helpful with information on the movies. Debated on Bullet Train (OMG- Brad Pitt) or Where the Crawdads Sings. Even though the staff did not see Where the Crawdads Sings, he noted many of the patron enjoyed the movie. We got tickets to Where the Crawdads Sings which is an excellent movie. You should go see it. Will see Bullet Train next week. The bathrooms were clean. It was nice an cool inside. The previews were a tad long, but well worth to see all the upcoming movies coming to the screen. Nothing compares to watching a movie in the theater with popcorn and soda. Sure we can use our devices, but it's not the same experience. You get to pick where you want to sit on their computer screen when purchasing tickets. See you at the movies. read more

Now I don't know if I have ever given one star before, but I do know that I don't give one star often. AMC I hope someone from your team is reading this because I am disgusted. As an AMC insider customer I enjoy taking my daughters to the movies in the summer because it's something that we do to spend time together. We have one of our favorite locations on the west side of the city that we frequently visit but I decided to go to this location because the timing of the movies would allow us to see two movies for National Cinema Day where all movies were four dollars. We decided we could see one movie earlier in the day then go grab a bite to eat, shop around the area and then go back and see another one. Now normally before I do a Yelp check in anyway I always try and look it up on Yelp for the reviews. I don't know why I didn't for this particular location and was sad that I didn't. Now when we got there it was packed. Thankfully we didn't have to wait on any lines because I purchased my tickets from online through the App so they just scanned my phone and pointed where to go. I expected it to be a lot of people because of the day it was, but I didn't expect it to be already dirty so early in the day. Do you guys clean at all during intermissions? Our next movie was for 6:30 in the evening, still a lot of people, still dirty and worse of all the seats were old cloth material and old. They had stains that looked like years of filth. I mean so nasty I put my old navy bag behind me because I didn't want to touch that seat. The whole movie theater was just dirty with candy in the corners, the bathrooms were a hot mess. For the life of me why hasn't this movie theater gotten a upgrade like the rest of the location I've been to. The seats were so close together I literally had children behind me yelling, talking and kicking my chair through the whole Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie. I'm sorry but I will never do National Cinema Day again here! I'd rather pay matinee for tickets, or maybe try a different franchise. FYI my oldest daughter went and bought a slushie and she said it was flat and disgusting, so don't buy any food from here. Wouldn't recommend. For $20 there weren't any reclining seats. All the seats were squished together. The theater was not up to date. Usually theaters are too cold and I would be freezing but I was actually a little too hot. I just wouldn't go back. For $20 I could definitely go somewhere of quality. read more

On Saturday, my girlfriend and I decided to catch the 6:00 pm show of Anora at the AMC Orpheum 7 on the Upper East Side. The fact the film won the Oscar for Best Picture of the Year, we decided to see it on the big screen instead of staying home and streaming it. ln hindsight, we would've better off if we'd stayed home because at least then we wouldn't have to be sitting in GARBAGE! (see photo) The theater was filthy and it wasn't even that busy. To make matters worse, the staff didn't give a damn, nor did they seem surprised at all when people complained. Only after several people complained did they finally clean the theater a few minutes before the show started while the entire audience had to wait outside until they were done. One woman remarked, "This is why I avoid coming here." As it so happens, my first job as a teenager, many years ago, was working for an AMC theater. Back then, the company ran a tight ship and the employees took pride in their work. If we had dared let the audience inside a theater without cleaning it first there would've been hell to pay. But given the condition of the Orpheum, it's clear that something about the company has changed and not for the better. Instead of being greeted by attentive employees, you get a disinterested sneer, resentful of the fact that you are forcing them to look up from their phones. Instead of a clean well functioning theater, you have overflowing garbage cans, water fountains that don't work, and an escalator that is broken (see photos). So if you had knee surgery recently, like I did, you're just going to have to suck it up and take the stairs. There's been a lot of talk about how theater owners are desperate to get audiences back into the theater. Well, maybe people would return if you actually took care of the place and showed them some respect. Like a lot of people, my girlfriend and I can't afford to go out often. So when we do, it's supposed to be a special night. The AMC Orphem 7 ruined that for us. The place is a disgrace and should be avoided at all costs. read more

They should rename this place "Hot Garbage AMC Loews 7". Other than being convenient to where I live there is nothing else positive to say about this AMC location. The theater itself is worn down and in need of major renovations. The bathrooms are disgusting, falling apart, pipes leaking, and toilets/urinals constantly broken. Nasty. The elevator is excruciatingly slow and filthy. Each theater inside is pretty bad - broken seats, dirty carpets and floors, sub-par screens and technology. Only one concession stand is ever working and it's always on the upper level. This place has a screwy layout and if you need to descend two levels down to see a flick there it's a major inconvenience going back and forth to get soda and popcorn. In all my years I have never seen the bottom level concessions open. This is a location that AMC Loews has failed drastically. While others have received terrific upgrades this one has been left to rot. Heck, they don't even list the current playing movies on the outside marquee anymore. The staff is ok overall and pleasant enough. So, it's a star for location and a star for staff. read more

Saw Nosferatu on 1/3 in this disgusting theater. Felt like my ankles were getting bit the whole movie. After leaving the theater and checking my ankles in the light, I had several small itchy welts. Came home and showered, but left my jacket on my bed (stupid). Now my bed seems to be infested with what appear to be rat mites. Absolutely disgusting - don't go here. read more

Went to watch the new Avatar movie and was so deeply disappointed by the quality of the screen. So dark and void of colors. The entire cinema looks like it is about to shutter. Filth pit pretty much sums it up. The staff is friendly but that is the only positive thing I can say about this theatre. Most of the concession stands are closed, the ceiling tiles are coming down due to a water leak. The bathroom is a disaster area. No toilet paper to be found, no working hand dryers and just dirty.
