The Summit 16 is definitely showing it's age. Only went here because of the convenience to the restaurant I was at for dinner. They do have all digital projectors and sound but the stadium seating is really cramped. I can see why they bought all the local Rave Theaters. Hopefully they will upgrade the theater soon. One bright spot was the customer service. The theater I was in was really hot so I went out and asked an associate to see if the AC could be turned on and he hopped to it. Within minutes the theater was at a comfortable temperature. read more

The air conditioner in the theater was not cooling like it should at first, but the workers were waiting at the exit with movie passes to another movie. Also, I realized before I left that I did not have my wallet. The manager looked in Lost and Found for it, and then escorted me back to the theater and searched for my wallet until he found it for me! Wonderful management there! Awesome!! read more

Very outdated. Concession options are good but if you want layered popcorn they give you half a bag, you walk over and butter your own popcorn, bring it back to concessions and then they'll top you off. Bathroom I used tonight was NOT clean. Two urinals were out of order and there was water (or pee) all over the floor. The actual theater is like the rest of the place, outdated. Finally, there is NO leg room in the theater. I'm about 6' and my knees were touching the seat in front of me. It'd be nice if they updated the whole theater. read more

Never buy popcorn at the Carmike concessions. I went today for my daughter's bday with 5 of her friends. OK I got 2 medium pop, 1 small, 6 drinks and a Reeses, and paid $50!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT A STICKER SCHOCK!! I asked for extra paper bags so the girls could share the popcorn and they said they couldn't give me any as they didn't have some. So I pointed to the stack behind the guy and his manager said they were about $3 a piece. For a paper bag?!?! That was a just a flat lie. All they want is for YOU guys to buy YOUR own bag of popcorn. But the manager offered me some blue disposal bag (looked like the ones found in bathrooms). I will NEVER EVER buy any food at Carmike movies and you shouldn't too. Because I have a serious addiction to movie popcorn, I thought it would be a good idea to sign up for the AMC premiere membership. We usually go to the theater in Vestavia, but if we have errands to run at the Summit, we will usually find a movie out there. We have been to the AMC Summit a handful of times now, and while the popcorn is delicious, the theater itself is in major need of a refurb. The screen on of the movies had a large tear in it which was very distracting. The bathrooms are consistently messy and overall the theater seems very unkept. I will say, it is a very convenient location and certainly suffices if you are in the area and want to see a movie. The employees at the theater are very friendly and have been extremely accommodating when we go. I sometimes ask for freshly popped popcorn (yes, I'm that person) and they always are happy to make it. For these reasons, we will continue to go when in the area. read more

We are fans of actually attending movies as opposed to waiting until they come out in the local red box. Today we went to the latest Tom Cruise movie during matinee hour. It was disappointing to see almost no cars in the parking lot. The movie theatre itself is looking a bit rundown and stale but most of the time the movie selections are good. I will say that they have become a marketing genius by allowing the tickets to be sold at the concession stand. Your bill goes from $22 to $50 in one nice swipe of your credit card. read more

The layout in the lobby was very confusing and line for snacks was hard to navigate. When we were ordering snack, the customer service was awful and unenjoyable. I would not buy drinks or snacks here because rats look like they are an issue. Very very nasty looking movie theater, floors were extremely sticky, and theatre smells like feet. A lot of high schoolers were attending when we went to the movie so it was very obnoxious while watching the movie. the movie theater is in a shopping center so it attracts a younger/louder crowd which means people are kicking your seat and whisper the whole movie. read more

This location has declined TREMENDOUSLY. I worked here 10 years ago in High School and this was the best movie theatre in Birmingham, hands down. I saw Queen & Slim a week ago and there were 2 people working concessions and the ticket area. I could've easily walked in and went into a theatre w/o even paying. Secondly, there were numerous staff members in the hallways and when I asked where to get my online ticket scanned, they seemed annoyed and irritable. The facility wasn't too clean, the bathrooms were disgusting and you can tell they wanted to refrain from cleaning the larger theaters because on a Saturday night, they decided to cramp people into the smaller, side theaters for showings. Really hope there will be a policy set in place about small children and babies being at the theater after a certain time. My past two movie experiences have been ruined by loud children . Okay, one time was for the Incredible 2 but the second was for Avengers end game.. really? There is a lot of violence and swearing, what kind of parent brings in a child under 4 to watch this. The upside is that every manager has been great about it and offered me movie vouchers since they couldn't kick out these clueless parents who apparently can afford $40 to get movie tickets and popcorn but can't afford a baby sitter. I am VERY disappointed in this theater since AMC has taken over. I just paid $12.00 for a ticket. Prices were lower when Carmike was here. Also. the floor of the lobby is extremely dirty. There is popcorn everywhere. There are a number of employees walking around not doing anything. Even the matinee prices are up to close to $9 and they were $5. My husband and I use to see one movie a week during the summer. This will be the last. And - the popcorn bucket is gone! read more

AC is broken so it is burning hot inside. It's super outdated with old projector and screen. Floors were nasty, sticky, and dirty. They had not been mopped or cleaned. Very little amount of seats I have seen an in home theater bigger than this. read more

I took my husband to see Thor. We went early to hopefully get good seats, I ordered some food but to my understanding after I ordered it I found out the fryer was down. Then we wanted two AD which means Accessibility devices, both my husband and are legally blind. Well we got both of them and thought we could use them but they were for the hearing impaired and to top it all off I went back to the counter and said that they were the wrong setup I was told that none of the devices work. I persisted to get them to fix it and finally got some satisfaction. read more

We went here because "The Current War" wasn't showing in Alabaster. Buying tickets and refreshments went smoothly and quickly. But once in the actual theater room (#13) we were surprised to see it looking old and run down. I'm only 5'3" and I thought the seats were small and had very limited leg room. The seat next to me was ripped. The screen seemed small and also appeared to have a tear. Considering this is at The Summit, we both expected something much nicer than this. When we first arrived, we considered paying for the rewards program. But after sitting very uncomfortably through a movie, we''re glad we didn't buy it. This theater is smaller than an average movie but it's almost perfect. The staff is nice and the concessions are good. The only flaw is that it's pricey. The tickets and concessions are pricey. The restrooms are clean and the theater rooms are clean. Overall, this theater is the best one in Birmingham. read more

This location used to be one of my favorite movie theaters. However, I do not know what has happened to the customer service. With the capability to purchase your tickets online or with your phone app, this should alleviate having to wait in line a long time for snacks. Not the case here! For the number of people in line and this being a holiday, why were there only two people taking orders & fixing the food (cooking fries, popcorn, pretzels, etc...)? The management was no where to be found. To top it off, the nice older gentleman taking tickets does not have the capability to scan a UPC for patrons that purchased online. Therefore, people where having to go back to the busy food counter to get your phone scanned. This is totally unacceptable, and it is not the first time the tickets could not be scanned by this gentleman. Just totally unorganized and under staffed at this location. I am a priority member, and I did not get priority service. Hopefully, the management will read this and make some necessary changes. read more

Your average movie theatre. The place seems a little dated and could use an interior face lift. The popcorn, candy and soda were all way overpriced. I'd much rather see a movie at a newer state-of-the-art type theater or a dinner theater type place that'll let you order a beer. read more

Haven't been to this movie theater in awhile but I can't say it's my favorite. I went to watch the movie Risen which was awesome by the way but the venue itself needs a facelift. The chairs and even the setup of the lobby could use some work. I probably come back only if the movie I wanted to watch wasn't shown at Patton Creek. read more

Decent movie theater, but quite outdated for its location in an upscale shopping area. I have watched many films here, including Bollywood films, and the theater usually has a musty smell. However, the seats are comfortable, and I prefer the smaller theater rooms that the Summit has. read more

The only reason I gave AMC 1 star is because they showed Equalizer 2. The employees at the concession counter were not polite at all. They gave me cold, stale popcorn and when I asked for fresh popcorn they looked at me like I asked for their kidney. The guy handed me my bucket of popcorn back, turned his head and waited on me to grab the bucket. Horrible service, and the first sign of lacking management skills. When my wife and I, along with two other couples we were with, walked into the auditorium where our movie was, it smelled like urine. The movie theatre had cups, napkins, and popcorn all over the floor and in the cup holders. The worst part was the air was not working. It felt like 80 degrees in there and ALL of the seats were damp/wet. I walked to the front and asked for a manager. A tall white male came into the movie theatre and I showed him how nasty, smelly and hot it was. He apologized and said he guessed the air was turned off. He advised me he was going to see about getting it turned back on. I told him about the wet seats and asked if this theatre had flooded and he said "No, it's probably from it being so hot in the theatre and it sweating. I could not even eat my popcorn due to the heavy urine smell and the humid conditions. After the movie I overheard a male talking with a different manager on how bad the theatre was and I asked did he come out of Equalizer 2 and he stated yes. At that time about 20 other people started chiming in and it was great that the manager had to get heat from doing a horrible job running the theatre. She apologized and handed out free movie passes, but I will NEVER come back to the AMC Summit movie theatre. People standing in line to go see the movie actually overheard all the complaints and got a refund on their movies and left. The female manager said she had worked at that movie theatre for 20 years and that did not say much. She should of said she started yesterday and it would of made a lot more sense. read more

This theatre needs to be updated desperately. The lobby is dismal, and not very inviting at all. Attempted to see a movie yesterday, and they'd cancelled the showing without even updating their website. Several people in the lobby were trying to see the same film, but they made no moves to apologize/accommodate everyone. The managers were conveniently nowhere to be found, and the staff seemed ill-equipped to deal with such a thing. I don't think I'll be returning to this theatre. There are too many in the area, and movies are too expensive to put up with this mediocre joint. read more

I'm giving it two stars since we did get to see the movie, but that's about all I can say was good about this theater. When we arrived, we were (fairly rudely and impatiently) waved inside by the people staffing the ticket kisok, and although the manager seemed nice, the situation was confusing for others behind us, as well. Once we got our tickets, the concessions, people were all perfectly nice, as was the usher taking tickets. It was once we arrived in the actual theater that the real ridiculousness started. It reached 10:00, and the movie hadn't started. By 10:15, some people had left, and someone went out to check to see what was going on. When they came back in, they told everyone that staff was going to "check it out, but they had no idea since no one had said anything." Who doesn't notice that the movie people have paid $11.00 to see hasn't started!? That's the whole reason any of us were there! I'll definitely be going to Lee Branch in the future, and I'd advise you to do the same. read more

Worst movie experience ever. I took my son and his friend to see The Conjuring 2 the " line manager" informed me that my children were underage and could not see the movie by themselves. However the white child that we were meeting there already had his ticket and was waiting on us. His mother saw another movie. All 3 boys are 14 years old. She kept talking over the guy who was selling me the ticket.which was annoying. Then she proceeded to accuse the little white kid of stealing something from the counter I told her that he had purchased it earlier. She ran behind us asking him if he paid for it. Worst experience ever. If I could I would give NO STARS there are no stars for this theater hate it. read more

The Summit really needs to attract a better theater company than AMC, which is poorly managed. Paid for a 7:00. Movie of Game Night this Thursday, and screen went blank after the too many previews. It is 7:30 & still no movie! Popcorn already eaten...too salty!!! Birmingham deserves a better movie experience than this. read more

This might not be the newest and fanciest theater in town, but it's still a great movie theater. And what it might lack in "brand new flash" it makes up for in service. My family and I had to leave the show we went to early because my youngest wasn't feeling well. I was worried that we'd just dumped $40 down the drain, but I decided to roll the dice and ask the manager for some readmission passes. Without hesitation she gave me 5 passes and wished my daughter well. Anywhere that shows genuine appreciation and concern for their patrons is deserving of a five star review in my book. That quality is one sadly lacking in so many businesses today. read more

Very disappointed. Coming for a first run show. Get there an hour ahead, no ticket windows open, buy your ticket at the concession stand. Ok, I'll grab a bite to eat, then get the ticket. Get there 10 before show time, only 1 ticket window open and a line 25 people deep. Ok if you are going to manage personnel that right at least invest in some kiosks. Think this is Monday night? Nope, it's Friday night. Never seen a major theater with 1 ticket window open on a Friday night. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Tonight was the 3rd time to visit this theater in the last few weeks. Each time the theater was freezing cold. The lobby seemed warm enough, but when going in the theater it felt 20 degrees colder. I had to wear my coat through the whole movie and was still freezing. Please turn on some heat when it's 20 degrees outside. Last week we went to see Green Book and after sitting through 30 minutes of previews the movie never started. Someone finally came in with coupons for popcorn, a drink and a ticket to come back saying the movie didn't download properly and it would take 2 hours to download it again. It was 8 o'clock at that point so it kind of messed up the night. They told us we could go into another movie and we did, but it had already started so we missed the first part. There are 5 concession areas in the theater, but they only use 1 and it's always a long line. Would love to see them open at lest 1 more during peak times. read more

I had planned to take several children after a birthday party for a Sunday movie showing. The showing that I had planned on seeing was canceled. I made a phone call and spoke with the assistant manager, who has been nothing but polite, professional, and courteous the entire time. He told me to speak with the manager, Braden, who was equally as nice. Braden rescheduled that movie even though he had a booking for 300 guest coming in that day. He saved the day for us, and we will always tell everyone about this. It's very unusual that Customer Service is at this level of understanding and can empathize with someone! read more

This was my first time going to this theater since it was bought out by AMC. I won't be back. They shut down ticketing to one person at the side concession stand. Completely shut down main concessions and had moved a movie stand up in front of it in the most tacky way. The employees are unfriendly and I think literally 3 or 4 employees were running the whole theater. One of the entrance way to the theaters was roped off (more cost cutting, as you don't have to pay a ticket taker) and there was water everywhere. The place has gotten really run down in the last couple of months since AMC took over..just gross. When I got to my theater and the movie started the projection was off and I had to go tell the ticket taker. They fixed that pretty quickly at least. After the film the person came in to clean the theater even before the credits rolled (I noticed she was also the person taking tickets). She got huffy when everyone didn't immediately leave the theater when the credits rolled. Overall a very sad experience. Theaters like this are part of the reason theaters are struggling...sadly their extreme cost cutting will turn even more people away from theaters. The experience should be special when you go to the theater...this was just depressing. Also AMC theaters are owned by Chinese investors read more
