This is probably one of the few remaining AMC theaters that hasn't been renovated, but it still does the job and I've never had an issue here. I like coming here because there's less of a crowd and you can get a good bargain on certain days. Opening nights of movies really aren't that crazy either, and usually you can find a decent seat because of less traffic. The decor needs some work, but again, it's convenient and I like that. I'll keep coming here when I want a good deal or looking for less crowds. read more

I really want to give this a 3.5 star rating. This theater just seems run down. The workers we encountered were nice, but lacked in social interaction. The theater was comfortable and we enjoyed the movie. BUT we did not enjoy the popcorn. It tasted old & flavorless. I even added extra butter and that did not help. We are lovers of popcorn and if your popcorn is terrible we will probably not be back to this theater. read more

I really like the fact that this location consistently offers the Independent and Faith-Based Films unlike the other big name chain(s) in the area. That is really the main draw for my family to this location since it is not the closest or most convenient to home. Only negative I can say is that my experience there was only one cashier outside to buy tickets. You can buy tickets inside at the concession stand also but it would be nice to have at least another cashier outside during peak times and more heavily promote buying at the concession stand (only sign I saw was very small and not prominent). read more

Comparing this to the other theaters in the area (Patton Creek and Carmike 10 on Lorna). We came to an 8:30 showing on a Saturday night. Pretty crowded theater located at the Summit. Parking: Plenty of parking available. It's part of an outdoor strip mall setting and there is outdoor parking everywhere. We purchased our tickets online and were able to skip the line and go inside and have them print them out for us. Staff was friendly and helpful! Popcorn was fresh and they had the typical drink machine with the ability to add flavors to any of your favorites. Theater we had was for a standard 2D showing and was on the small side. That being said the movie we went to has been out for appox 5 weeks. By the time the movie started the theater was packed out and a few people appeared to leave to go get a refund as there were no seats left. Sound was solid and screen was good size (especially for a movie that has been out 5 weeks). My only real complaint is they could give you a little extra leg room. Start to feel a little cramped by the end of the movie. First time here and I am happy with the theater. Won't be my regular go to as there are options closer, but if you are near this theater its a good option. read more

We love movies and I have gone to a lot of theaters and this one is one of my favorites because it's always clean and the lines go quickly. The smaller theaters are nice but they really shouldn't show popular movies In them. We saw Crazy Rich Asians and it was in one of the smaller theaters and it should of been in one of the bigger theaters because some people couldn't sit. They left the theater because they came as a group and even though everyone was sitting together there was only a couple seats left on each row and I guess they wanted to sit together (which is not the theater's fault, just an observation) But all in all it's a clean place. I didn't really like this theater when it was a Carmike cinema. I like it even less now that it's an AMC. Tickets are way overpriced, especially for the quality of service you receive. Staff is mediocre at best, downright disgruntled at worst. There are four separate snack stands, but only one is ever open, and usually only with two employees trying to serve dozens of customers. If you want anything to eat while you watch your movie, you need to arrive 30 minutes ahead of time otherwise you'll miss 1/3 of the movie waiting in line! The floors are filthy, as are the restrooms. It is painfully evident that this theater is woefully understaffed, and it's the customers who wind up paying the price. I'll go out of my way to avoid this place. read more

Bad experience. Went to see the new Jurassic Park on opening day on a Friday. Tickets were expensive, fine I get that. But concessions were highway robbery. Popcorn was too salty and low quality. Seats were not comfortable and were shaking every time someone in the row readjusted their position. Theater is old. Probably won't be back Update: I did go back...and it wasn't too bad. Update to 3 stars. During the day the tickets are dirt cheap (6.50) and the theaters have a good amount of people in them. Didn't get snacks and enjoyed the experience. Before AMC bought out Carmike, there was a uniformed police officer present every weekend. AMC got rid of the officers. With all the violence and craziness going on nowadays, I felt a lot safer with the officer present. Certainly wont be going as much now. read more

This movie theater is my go-to. It's clean-ish. The employees are friendly-ish. I think I've only experienced technical difficulties during a movie at this theater once during a thunder storm. Pretty average as far as movie theaters go. No complaints. Using the AMC app to buy tickets ahead of time can eliminate waiting in line. I don't ever buy concessions because they're too expensive, so I can't really speak to their quality here. read more

This is my least favorite theater in the Birmingham area. We came for a matinee showing on a Saturday afternoon and were just really excited to see Blade Runner. We had just had a delicious lunch and were looking forward to capping off our afternoon with a movie. I had stopped by a few days before to get our tickets so we just needed some popcorn and drinks. I explained to the cashier that I had a $5 reward on my membership account and would like to use it with my free popcorn voucher. Great deal, right? Well after pecking at the screen for less than a minute he explained that their rewards system was down and that he couldn't process my request. I asked him if he could ask for a manager's help? I could show him the email with my free voucher and even let him write down my membership number and process it lately. He simply refused. I was annoyed but what could I do? So I purchased my drink and moved along. The theater itself looked pretty updated but the seats were very uncomfortable so I spent most of the movie shifting around trying to get comfortable. The popcorn was meh and the butter was watered down. This was just one of the worst movie theater experiences I've ever had. Won't be back anytime soon. read more

First time going to this theater and everything was very good. The staff was very friendly, the theater was very clean as were the restrooms. We saw X-Man Apocalypse and the temperature was just right. Some theaters freeze you out with their A/c. I will definitely come back again! read more

My boyfriend and I went to go see the 2:30 pm showing of Elemental here. We arrived shortly after the previews. The man working at the front window helpfully directed us to where our movie was playing. We walked to our designated theater (theater 12) and as soon as we opened the door a gust of hot air hit us immediately! We walked inside and another family who was there before us jokingly says, "I hope y'all are ready to burn up! We've already complained, and they told us they'll turn the air up." We got to our seats and tried to enjoy ourselves, but ultimately my boyfriend and I were sweating uncomfortably. My boyfriend got up to get a manager from the front. The manager was well aware of the heat and said that the HVAC system in that particular theater was completely out. Meaning no air AT ALL!! She offered to give us "free ticket vouchers" but no refunds. It is 102°F outside today y'all....I will never be returning. If you're aware that the air is out simply shut down that theater and refund your guests and apologize for the inconvenience!! OR offer to show it at a different theater room number! Sad!! read more

I unfortunately have not been impressed with this theatre the past couple of times I have been. The popcorn is very cold and the theatre seats seem old and crispy. The older theatre rooms are completely off centered from the screen and even the newer rooms I feel like the audio wasn't as loud and clear to capture that theatre experience. I feel like a place in the beautiful summit should be a little more modern and pristine. I will say the staff is always super friendly which is a plus and it is a convenient location but I wouldn't say it is anything special. read more

I don't get a chance to come to the AMC movie theater because there's another theater that's closer to my apartment but I really wanted to see the avengers end game so I decided to come here. I'm glad that I was able to get a ticket and that there were still somewhere for me to sit. read more

I liked that the staff really focused on making sure that premier members got first priority in line. Staff was very friendly and I felt like they cared. One of the soda dispensers was unresponsive with no out of order sign attached. The theater itself was terrible. The screen was off center with the seats. There was no leg room. Went to the 7:30 movie showing on a Sunday. No one manning the ticket counter. Had to purchase tickets from the concession stand. We had plenty of time but had to wait in line and missed some previews. Concession stand attendee was complaining about being alone and being the only one working. I guess the other guy at the register was a figment of my imagination? Popcorn was stale and they were passing off cheddar popcorn as regular. Assuming this was because it was late and they didn't want to make more. I actually purchased another bag as I thought my hubby accidentally ordered cheddar. Voila two $hitty bags of popcorn at $8 bucks a pop. Also what's with having to pick your seat? The theater was no where near full. I know they want us to purchase on-line, I get it but what about spontaneity? Should we just stay home and stream movies? The atmosphere is better. PS theaters no one wants to eat your over priced mac and cheese. You are surrounded by decent restaurants. Stay in your lane. Also, offer more than two sizes to pick from on drinks and popcorn, no wonder people sneak stuff in. The movie was great. The sound was good the theater was clean the bathrooms were too. The lines to buy concessions or tickets is a joke. Almost like standing in line at an amusement ride. Way under staffed and the employees they do have are rude. TLDR: theater is understaffed, dirty, uncomfortable, and old. Go somewhere else. I would like to preface this review by saying that I am not a complainer. It doesn't take much to keep me happy when it comes to businesses. With that in mind, I'd like to tell you why you shouldn't go to this theater. I am an amc stubs a-list member, so I see a lot of movies, sometimes 2-3 a week. I have never been to this theater so I figured I would give it a try since I had nothing else to do and I was in the area. From the outside the building looks really nice. The exterior is clean and modern looking. Unfortunately, that's where my praise for this theater ends. When you walk in to the main lobby area, you're met with a stale smell and everything looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years. The only employees were working behind the concession stand and they looked completely overwhelmed by the crowd of people (to be clear, that isn't their fault. They should have help). My tickets were on my phone so I made my way to the hallways where the theaters are. There was no one there to scan my tickets and no one seemed to care that I walked straight into my theater, meaning anyone could just walk in off the street and steal your seats without buying a ticket. But the real fun was walking into the theater. If you guessed the smell got worse, you're right. There was popcorn all over the place and kids running around and yelling in the theater. I found my seat and sat down and that's when I looked up and realized the screen was TINY. That pretty much did it for me. I cancelled my (Unscanned) tickets and got out of there as quickly as possible. Don't waste your money here. Take a short drive to Vestavia or Patton creek and have a way better time. read more

Tuesday is the day to visit! $5 tickets all day and highly discounted snacks. It's hard to beat $2 for a small popcorn and $2 for a small drink. It's relatively updated with multiple theaters and showings each day of newly released films. The seats are comfortable and the theaters and bathrooms are clean. There have been times when popcorn crumbs are littered in various parts of the lobby and on my recent they were out of napkins. read more

These theaters are due for a refresh - seats are old, carpet smells (especially theater four. Ugh). Air conditioner was quite loud as well. Carmike has a monopoly in my neighborhood - so I'll continue to pay a lot for the convenience of seeing movies here. read more

For being in a nicer mall in Mountain Brook, this theater sure isrun down i was surprised that on the day after Christmas, only one concession area was open and staffed by three people. The women's bathroom at the front of the theater was gross. Two out of five toilets were stopped up. Out of the remaining three stalls, one didn't have a lock. There was water all over the floor, and one of the three sinks was clogged. AMC really needs to give this theater some love! read more

Absurd staff! This is the only movie theater I have ever been thrown out of in my life. My family and I went to the Carmike Theater on Lorna Rd, the $1.50 theater, but there were no seats available for our movie after we bought the tickets and concessions. The manager gave us three free passes a result. He told us we could use them at any Carmike location. We finally decided to use them at the Summit location a few weeks ago. We went with some trepidation because we were not completely confident we could use the passes from the $1.50 theater at a first run theater. When we went to get our tickets and popcorn from the concession counter the girl there said we couldn't use them there because we had only paid $1.50 initially. We explained how we had come to have them and that the Lorna Rd Mgr had assured us that we could use them at any location. With an attitude and great reluctance she agreed to, "make an exception." After finding our seats, my wife expressed her displeasure at the attitude of the concessions girl/manager. So I went back to complain and that's when things got stupid. I went back and told this Asst Mgr that she had been rude to my wife and I and my wife was upset about it. She turned and walked away from me without a word. Like I said, rude. This apparently was to get someone to relieve her so that she could speak with me away from the concession counter but she didn't tell me that however. She had just turned her back to me and walked away. So it seemed she was being even more rude to me than before. The mgr came back and we stepped to the side and she tells me she was not rude to us Seriously? Isn't that a matter of perspective? All I was looking for from her was a small apology. Before we could finish talking the A nasty little fat woman came over with these two men and interjected themselves into the conversation. I kept asking her why I was even talking to her, it was none of her business. The employee/assistent manager should have asked her to move along but she allowed them to continue complicating the situation. At one point the fat woman's man asked me if I wanted to step outside. What? Really? When I was speaking to the girl/mgr I was not yelling, as I would later be acused of, but I certainly used a stern voice and my displeasure was, I'm sure, quite apparent. When I could address the girl/mgr between the interruptions of yelling by the little fat lady, she was not at all aopolgitic. In fact, she tells me I have to leave. I'm like, "WHAT! Because I tell you that you were rude to my family I have to leave? You couldn't just give me an apology for your behavior?" I explicitly told the girl I was not looking for any kind of compensation, just an apology. She said she hadn't done anything wrong to apologize for. So the theater calls the police because I said I wasn't leaving because I had come to watch a movie. When the police arrive, which was completely unnecessary, they tell me I have to leave. I am shocked to say the least. They point out, correctly so, that they don't make judgements but they are there to execute the businesses right to serve whom the please. I do understand that so I left. There was no time during this ordeal that this girl/mgr felt threatened. She never claimed to be. She did claim I was yelling at her but this is not the case at all. I yell at ball games or when I see someone about to get run over by a car. This day however I did not yell. Was I irritated? Yes. Was that obvious in my tone? Ah, yeah. This was probably her perception becsuse she wasn't in her "Safe Zone". I have been a manager for many years myself. This manager is more incompetent than most and that is a high bar to get over. She handled the situation in the worse way possible. All she needed to do was to offer some form of an apology, but instead, i dont want to ever enter another Carmike Theater. GO TO A DIFFERENT THEATER! read more

For starters, this was my go-to movie place for many years. The only reason I recently visited this place, was because of a movie availability that my preferred movie place didn't have. Just a side note, my friends know me as an avid movie go-er. Typically go to the movies, 3-4 times a month. I'm all about comfort. After returning to this venue, I was surprised at the outdated look both inside the movie space, and outside. The summit in general has tried to keep up with times, however this venue appears to have not. My gut feeling is that with a little makeover, this venue would go a long way. Maybe improve the seating, lighting, and carpet. Now I know this would cost money, however this would also (in my opinion), attract new customers for the long term. The staff was ok, no complaints there. The food options were good, maybe improve on the arcade games. read more

Wouldn't let me bring in my lunch leftovers because I might start eating it (pasta - with my fingers?) in the movie. Asked to speak with the manager and he gave me the same crap. So went off to the side, tied up the bag it was in and stuffed it in my purse. Problem solved. We were early so nothing going on in the theatre. Then sound, but no picture. Had to ask twice to get this fixed. As we got closer to the movie start the picture still played, but some weird music, that had nothing to do with the picture, started playing. Also the curtains hadn't pulled back all the way to show the full screen. This took only one trip to get fixed. Next as the movie started the house lights didn't dim. Yep you guessed it....another trip to get that taken care of. read more

This is probably the worst place I've been to see a movie. The line to buy snacks was extremely long and only one of the concession stands was open to serve refreshments. In order to be served at a faster pace, you would have to spend an additional $20 to buy a premiere pass. Needless to say I will not go back here if I'm playing for it. read more

This movie theater is conveniently located at the Summit shopping center. Can be difficult getting in/out of the Summit. 2 stars because while there is nothing fundamentally wrong with this theater, it is very dated. Movie theaters have come a long way in the last 20 years. While it has stadium seating, it does not measure up to a 2015 movie theater. Reserved seating? No. Comfortable seats? No. Full menu of actual food or a bar? No. I also bought my tickets online. However, there were no kiosks at the theater to pick up pre-paid tickets. As a result, I had to wait in line (only 1 window open on a busy night). This made the online ticket experience pretty useless for me. Keep your expectations low & enjoy the show. read more

Went to the movies tonight. Only saw 3 other people in the whole place. The theatre we were in the sound did not work. The speakers kept coming in and out. It was either almost silent or so loud it hurt your ears. The theatre was older and unkept. Had an odd smell. The air was not working! It was uncomfortably hot. Made a trip to the restroom on the way out and most all the toilets needed flushing. Visiting from out of town. Needs a remodel. The movie was only $5.00 so we didn't complain. read more

We came here for Father's Day. You can tell it is a older theater. The screen was not centered in the room so you had to look left the whole time. The seats were really close to the other seats I'm 5'2 and it was tight so I can only imagine for someone taller. The staff was very friendly and the facility was clean. Yes, we know the Summit 16 is showing its age and not in tune with the modern times. During the movie, the visual and sound aspects are good and it definitely draws you away from the surroundings. The seats are tiny compared to most stadium seating theaters today. read more

This is a pretty typical movie theater. It is a the the summit where there are a lot of places to eat and shop. The summit is a very nice shopping center so I would expect a nicer movie theater. The AMC Summit movie theater is often times dirty and should be cleaned better. Other than that it is pretty typical. read more
