I randomly stopped by after eating lunch in the area after reading the reviews, and the two items I got were delicious! Their biscuit was pretty perfect, super fluffy inside with a crunchy exterior and about 2 inches in height! This is exactly how a biscuit should be. Amelia's bakery has a lot of fine offerings but the thing that I love the most is their bread. I drive from my home west of Indianapolis to Fletcher Place just to buy their bread. This bread is what I refer to as crusty chewy bread and it's some of the best I've ever enjoyed. Sour Dough based breads that will make your mouth water. I like to toast the bread and then smear it with butter or Cream cheese. If you're lucky enough to go on a Wednesday when they have their bagels try some of those too, the everything bagel is coated with so many wonderful seeds and pieces of garlic and onion. It's the best I've ever eaten. Amelia's has a lot of beautiful pastries too and I'll have to be honest I haven't tried a lot of them. The ones I have tried have been very good. They sell a lot of other specialty meats, vegetables, mustard's, sauerkraut's from locally sourced companies. If you're looking for one of those special, out-of-the-way places where the people are always friendly and everyone knows your name go to Amelia's! Alright, Amelia's, let's do this. I have definitely had Amelia's bread before from local Indianapolis restaurants but had never ever stopped in their shop in Fountain Square. IT IS WORTH THE HYPE. One of those places you ask yourself while enjoying a fresh piece of shortbread, "What took me so long to come here?" Coming in, I was afraid it was going to be boutique bread prices and I wouldn't be able to purchase all what I wanted. SURPRISE! It's reasonably priced and after enjoying their products, I can say it's worth more than what I paid (but please don't take that as a sign to raise prices tehe). $2.00 shortbread. Amelia's is the spot for great bread selection! In particular the focaccia bread is my favorite bread by far. The bread has olive oil, cheese, and herbs baked throughout and is perfect to pair with so many things. Although some good cheese and salami or bruschetta are my favorite. While the shop for Amelia is more grab and go it should be on your list to stock up for the next time you host or want to indulge with delicious carbs. I went to Amelia's for some pastries because I had some friends coming into town. I got several of their croissants, including the chocolate one and two loaves of bread. I always get the focaccia when I go in because it is so tasty and well-made. I also tried there regular sandwich bread this time and was pleasantly surprised! Right now I think it's important to support small businesses and while their sandwich bread is a little more expensive than what you can get at the grocery store, I think it's well worth it. Everything I've gotten from Amelia's is always very good. I enjoy their cookies and the selection of local goods you can purchase there as well. Our first time in Amelia's bakery. This store is in the heart of Fountain square and is connected to its sister restaurant Bluebeard. Visited on a Saturday afternoon. We parked in front of the small rustic store. It wasn't very busy, so we had time to really look around. They have homemade cookies, pastries, biscuits, granola, jams and even beer and wine. The staff was very friendly and told us that they offer a different breakfast sandwich special every day. We bought a loaf of traditional sourdough, rosemary sourdough and some chocolate chip cookies. The bread is a bit on the pricey side, but we expected to pay a premium for truly handmade artisan bread. As soon as we got home, we made sandwiches and were very impressed. The texture of both breads was a bit denser that the Whole Foods sourdough that we regularly eat. The rosemary was fragrant but not overpowering. The chocolate chip cookies were crispy around the edges but chewy in the middle...soo good! read more

There's so much "yes" here! I tell ya, if Amelia's was in my neighborhood, I would be a goner. Those artisan croissants would call my name incessantly. Yelp Indy Community Manager Britt took me and two of my colleagues here during a fun day in Indy. It definitely started the day off on a sweet high note! I was immediately taken in by the croissants when I walked in. They have normal, plain croissants -- which otherwise would be star of any spread -- but they were eclipsed by the chocolate and especially hazelnut creme croissants. I bought one of the latter, and it made for a sweet, flaky treat. We also had to try one of the Irish whiskey ganache donut holes. It was St. Patrick's Day after all. They also had these in full donut form, on potato brioche with house-made sprinkles. These were fancy and fun at the same time. Amelia's also has loaves upon loaves of artisan bread, as well as other baked goods -- Those cookies! Lawwwwd! -- and a curated selection of baking goods, including oils, olives, jams, balsamic vinegars, mustards, syrups, cheeses, crackers, spreads and more. Think of this as a stop to make before a dinner party. Pick up some bread and fancy kitchen ingredients that you can sit around your kitchen to make it look like you actually know how to cook. My hubby is a bread fanatic , it takes a lot for him to keep coming back to the same place to get his bread fix. Amelias has all the qualities of a great bakery, reasonable pricing , freshness and consistent friendly service. Their Covid procedures are top notch , only Max two customers in store at once . I really love that and don't mind waiting outside even in the cold. They have two heaters overhead to help warm ya up. I think I might've had actual dreams about Amelia's chocolate chip cookie a time or two... it's legitimately the best cookie I've ever had, and believe me when I say, I've had a lot of cookies. Also, it's only $2 which is cheaper and lightyears beyond the taste of a cookie from a place like Panera or even Whole Foods. I frequent Amelia's and have taste-tested plenty of their offerings, all of which demonstrate utter quality and care in their preparation. You can order a full or half loaf of bread, and they'll slice it for you if you'd like. Tied for my fave is the semolina bread and the cranberry walnut! This was both my and my lady's first time checking this place out since we were in Indianapolis that day for an appointment. I have to say the baked goods we purchased, a peanut butter cookie, Cinnabon break and I think few other items I have to say were awesome. We loved the Cinnabon and peanut butter cookie, the bread we purchased was in my opinion awesome in flavor. This is a lovely bakery that offers sweet and savory options along with wines and some specialty grocery items. Being from out of town and flying home the same day we visited we were limited on what we could purchase but this is just the kind of place I wish was around the corner from me at home. Having to be selective I chose the Strawberry Rhubarb Jalapeno scone. I chose well. It was the perfect mix of sweet and a little bit of spice. To take home I chose the cashew coconut granola which has been delicious. I will definitely swing back by here if I am ever in town again. read more

OMG this bakery didn't disappoint! I originally was interested in going here for their kouign amann (a rarity in bakeries across the U.S., so I'm always on hunt - have only had it in Las Vegas, Portland ME, and Ann Arbor MI), so I wasn't surprised when I found out they currently are NOT making them. Food: We bought the butter croissant, chocolate croissant, chocolate chip cookies, and a cranberry walnut loaf. The butter croissant and chocolate croissants were PERFECT. Light, airy, crispy on the outside. The chocolate chip cookie had a perfect texture - not too dry, but just moist enough to still retain its structure. The taste was a bit darker - perhaps something in the flour? Or molasses? Whatever it was, it was delicious! They also have tinned fish, olives, pickled items, meats, and other pantry items for sale. Parking: Easy to find street parking at 11am on a Friday. Very charming location w/rainbow flags. Tip: If you have time (especially if with kids), take your bakery items a few blocks down West on E Norwood St to Edna Balz Lacy Park. We found it purely by accident, and parked on the street (easy to find parking), but bet it would be a 5 minute walk fm the bakery. It is a quiet residential park with a couple of playscapes, swings, a pavilion, and picnic tables (see photos). We enjoyed our Amelia croissants there, and it made for a lovely morning! read more

Amelias is my go to for pastries and the store is adorable. Everything is displayed beautifully and looks amazing. They have snacks, jams, pasta, dips, potato salads and so much more. Their hand pies are always my favorite - it's essentially a home made pop tart and wild berry flavor was perfection. Their lemon curd kouign amann was flakey and delicious. However, strawberry rhubarb with jalapeño scone was really salty and hard to eat. A great bakery and fresh baked bread daily. This place is amazing I have been here maybe 3 times over the weekend. Amelia's was recommended to me by a friend after shared that I needed a good sourdough to make a blueberry brie french toast I saw on Tik Tok. I rode my bike to Amelia's and they do have bike parking nearby. Also Amelia's is only serving two customers at a time. Let me start off by saying sourdough for me was one type of bread and I was soon exposed to all of the sourdough bread variety at the store. I didn't see what I wanted based off the video but I was recommended the Countryman. I was told to come back in the morning for the more suitable sourdough. Besides the bread, Amelias has a nice selection of spices, cheeses and meats. I definitely went back and got a little purchase happy. On my 2nd visit, I got the almond croissant which when its warmed up its amazing. I also purchased a spicy garlic aoli and Tulp Tree Creamery's nettle which I love the latter to dip fries into. I also got the pullman bread for my brie situation. Back to this croissant it was so amazing that I went back a third time. It was light and just the right amount of sugar. So I went for a third time and that is when I was told the sad news that the croissant is only a weekend concoction. Amelia's has a variety of pastries, breads and cookies to choose from. So I had to "settle" for the cinnamon roll croissant and fenugreek & chive biscuit. Please know I am being sarcastic with my use of settle they were good options. The cinnamon roll croissant covered my sugar tooth craving I was experiencing. I warmed it up and it was light. The glaze was just right it wasn't overpowering you got to feel like you were eating a cinnamon roll without the calories. The fenugreek & chive biscuit was sooo good. I warmed it up and had it for breakfast. If I would have thought about it I could have added a slice of bacon to make a breakfast sandwich. Oh and I almost forgot the foccacia bread is on fire. I got a half loaf for $4 and I took my time eating it because it was so good. It would be a great side for a spaghetti dinner. I will be back to Amelia's sooner than later. read more

I fell in love with this bread at the Garfield Park Farmer's Market. It is delicious!! Fresh bread made daily with natural ingredients is hard to find - and pricey. It is a special treat but often around $6.75 per loaf. At Amelia's you can get it sliced on the spot. My favorite was the quinoa bread but they discontinued it. I love the country loaf. Seminola is kinda good - like it IS good but then gets too much after a while with the seeds. They sell other local items - like Trader's Point cheese, other local cheeses, etc. read more
