I have recently been to Goose twice, both for different things. The first visit was for the bacon making class, and the second was to pick up my bacon, and trying some of the sandwiches they have. Bacon making class: overall I am glad I did the class, but think there are some things that could change. The information provided at the beginning of the class didn't flow the best, and used a lot of terms I didn't understand- knowing your audience is important. We were told we would get 1.5lbs bacon, and .5lbs bacon bits. When picking up the bacon, we only got the bacon, and none of the bits. This needs to be updated on the class description. Sandwiches: we tried a goose, and a batalli. The goose was good- nothing spectacular. I was a fan of the batalli- nice amount of mayo, appropriate spice, and good amount of meat/cheese. Been here several times and I'm a fan, they have a great selection of many things! However for this visit I was only there for oysters! They run a special on Mondays. What a fun spot for a sandwich or cheese or sundry items! It is on the corner of two busy streets but does have two spots in front for parking. You can also park in the gravel lot across the road. It was raining pretty heavily so we got wet but wasn't a far dash. The counter is like any deli with the items displayed in the cold case. You can browse the various freezers or shelves for items like picked veggies, canned fish or spreads. It was fun to see that you could buy everything needed for a picnic or impromptu lunch! We got sandwiches to go as well as locally baked cookies. I tried the recommendation for a vegetarian sandwich. It was nice and crusty and had some good flavor. I might create my own next time, but theirs was good and had lots of flavor! My friend was new to Indianapolis and really liked the options. She said she would be back and so will we. I've struggled with how to rate and review Goose the Market for a long time. I've struggled mightily. It's an Indianapolis icon in many ways. It's beloved. And listen, it's not the most wheelchair friendly place in the world. If you're a wheelchair user, you're in all likelihood not going to the cellar unless you're extraordinary with you're chair or you crawl. I remember attending a Yelp event here, and I just wrestled with these issues so much. It's not inaccessible - you can get in the door, though even the parking is a bit wonky and the curb-cuts a bit worn. This is an older building in an older neighborhood. So yeah, if you're a wheelchair user plan ahead. I am a wheelchair user. And I suppose I should knock off my usual 1-star for accessibility issues. But, I just can't do it. I, instead, choose to go 5-stars with my narrative disclaimer that there are accessibility issues here. But, my word. This is a great place and every single experience I've had with Goose the Market, including last night's Italian Film Festival, has been stellar whether I'm in their location or at an event they are catering. What is Goose the Market? First off, nearly everyone considers it one of the best - Indianapolis Monthly, Eater, Yelp, etc. Goose the Market offers a daily menu of sandwiches, soups, gelato, and small plates. It offers raw beef, pork, poultry, game, seafood, in-house made sausage/smoked meats, and more. It offers charcuterie - both in-house and from other producers. It offers farmstead cheeses, fresh produce, artisan breads, preserves, sauces, pickles, pasta, crackers, flours/grains, and a lot more. There's the cellar - Enoteca bar with Italian style wine by the glass and small plates (and it has all-ages seating). Goose the Market offers a wine of the month club, gift cards, catering, classes, daily specials, and more. What can I say? There are those places that are worth the effort. As a lifelong person with a disability, I long ago realized the world would never be perfectly accessible. It's never going to happen. I'll continue to work toward a more accessible world, though I'll also honor that there are those places where I feel welcome anyway. I feel welcome at Goose the Market, though I can't quite get the full experience. The service is exceptional, the products quite awesome, the environment warm and friendly, and there's simply no doubt it's one of Indy's treasures. So yeah, five stars. The best and freshest deli. My partner and I go here when we want the best deli sandwich. They also offer unique chips and drinks. The employees there are always nice so service is great! There are a few indoor seats and outdoor ones but by far the best plan would be to get a meal to go and venture to a close park. I was in a huge panic about being a first time host to 16 people for Thanksgiving dinner. Goose the Market posted on IG about their seasonal offerings back in October and I immediately said 'That's the place I trust to not f' up our dinner'. A fully-cooked smoked turkey, cranberry mostarda and a faux rose wine were ordered for delivery the day before Thanksgiving. THE SMOKED TURKEY WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!! I have had turkey prepared all kinds of ways but smoked is by far my favorite now. The homemade mostarda and wine were delicious as well. I thought that next time I host for this holiday that I would attempt my own turkey but why mess with a good thing? The veggie option on Amelia's bread with veggies and vegan mozzarella was such a treat and had a great flavor with a bit of heat. I've loved Goose for years. Personally, I'm a big fan of their fresh-made sandwiches and local offerings. The Batali sandwich was just named "most save-worthy" sandwich in the state according to Yelp data. It has a spicy giardiniera on top that sets my mouth ablaze in the best way, but you can also get it without. They have freezer sales and you can score amazing local meat for a great price, especially on Mondays. The team is always friendly and helpful, and I love that they're always sampling to expand customer's knowledge and taste buds. The basement enoteca is awesome and I love that they not only have great wine, but NA beer options too. I also love Goose on a professional level. They're the best to work with and are always organized, helpful, and so creative. Goose the Market... I went in there for one thing and came out with five. The staff working on the Sunday when we went in are a blast. We had FUN being in there. I'm a sucker for a well stocked quality local business and this is one I will be adding to my list to regularly visit. We had Batali sandwiches, an oat milk latte, and ginger lemon shot - SPICY, but good and worth it if you need a morning boost. I chugged down the latte which was delicious. The Batali sandwich... is perfect... I'd had it once before and I swear it used to be bigger, but it was still flavor packed and plenty for lunch. I'm not a deli meat person, but I am for this sandwich. It's so flavorful and good - add the pickles and pickled red onions and it's heaven. I love everything on it and wouldn't change a thing. The shop has tons of local products. My favorite is Amelia's bread and i love knowing I can grab it here. I've never tried their cooking classes or order out items, but I'd trust they're awesome. Thank you for hosting a lovely little free wine tasting Saturday! A lovely team was available to share some wines from the country of Georgia. They shared the history of the wine making and the special process that is still being used today dating back to at least 8,000 years ago!
