Really cute boutique store in downtown Claremont that has a variety of womens clothing with higher brands like free people and others (wide range with some clothing upwards of $300). What drew me was the candles! They offer candles that are sourced and made from local vendors and had such unique flavors. I ended up buying 2 candles. There is a 10% off with a Yelp check-in that I used and the staff was not aware of and had to call her boss so that took a little time, but would be good to note to staff in the future so it does not take as much time. read more

I would love to be able to give this store a higher rating because I want to patronize local businesses and they really do have many cute things in here but there are 2 reasons for the low rating: 1) I purchased a pair of Wonderland sunglasses for $160 dollars. After about 2 weeks of trying them I asked them if could exchange for STORE CREDIT. They refused even though they were like new. Very frustrating. Claimed they even asked the owner. I wasn't requesting a refund, I thought a store credit was reasonable but was refused. 2) Generally their sales girls are less then friendly and put on the unaffected attitude. I am an "older" (late 40s customer) who has money to spend and I mostly feel like a persona non grata with these sales girls. Think high end boutique sales-girl blasé. It's for these reasons that I unfortunately cannot patronize them even though I see cute things on their IG and would even love to shop there for gifts, or take my teenage daughter. read more

I hate to edit my review and feel that an update is necessary. I have popped into Amelie about three times in the last year and have to agree with the posters below. A lot of the clothes look very...cheap. Like, Forever 21 style, yet the prices are still too high. I don't recognize any of the brands (maybe they are fashion district/Downtown LA) and wish they would bring back some recognizable names (Nanette Lepore, Cynthia Vincent, James Perse etc.) Bummer. read more

Little boutiques are cute. I'm all for supporting the little shops that give good service. My only qualm is that the last time I was there, there were a lot of things from old seasons but still at full price. I understand little boutiques can't compete with Bloomies or Neimans but once things are no longer of the current season ... or even from the past two seasons, the price should probably be adjusted. I have a confession, I am a shopaholic and that really makes me an expert! I just love the fact that every time that I shop at Amelie is not just going into another boutique. They make you feel right at home, NOT an intimidating experience! They certainly know my style, and I know how they carefully select beautiful and trendy outfits that portray my unstoppable personality and forward thinking. My preference: The Black Dress and accessories to enhance it. Brian, the owner is an artist. He is knowledgeable and a fashion icon. He personally curates my collections, by selecting the perfect elements for me. Completely blown away with my shopping experience this morning. I was in need of a garmet to wear to a "country" themed bash this weekend. I was completely confused on what to wear and what would work and the two women teamed up to make sure I had more than enough beautiful options to try to fit the occassion. From start to finish I felt completely and totally welcome in the shop and completely taken care of. The owner at this store is crazy. They lost my reward points, after I was a loyal cutomer there for years. They refused to credit them to me, were really rude, didn't believe me, and then a girl on another shift found them. I got a half assed apology. I would often come here to buy denim, but I found that the styles she carries are often the same kind Nordy's sends to the rack. It really took a dive, as other reviewers have pointed out. It use to have some really cute pieces, but those days are LONG GONE. Overall, Amelie lacks the boutique feel of unique finds by great designers. It's more of a picked over rounder at a Department store, overpriced and dismal. I If you are a size Small, they run out fast, and the girls working there hold the smaller sizes for their friends. I shop alot in LA so I was surprised to find a store this cool just a few miles from where I live. This is a such a great place to shop for clothes. They've really good brands like velvet and citizen's of Humanity but, they also have a good selection of harder to find labels like Dolan, kier & J sweaters and the best boutique shoe section anywhere. The people that work there are really nice and super honest.One woman told me why I couldn't ever find jeans that fit me well. I've been a regular since Amelie first opened her doors. Seems like they've changed a lot in the last few years and really for the good. While I still notice many pricier designers it doesn't seem as expensive as it used to be. I mean I bought an entire date night enemble for under $150. Cool trick , especially now when I'm not only pinching pennies , I'm googling ways to replicate them in a petri dish. Nice girl that worked there, Jenny, was so sweet and patient . And as always got my sweet tart fix from their giant jar of help yourself candy. There's more shopping in the Village but , really this store is the best. read more

I have been meaning to write a post on here for some time now but just have not got around to it until I happen to stop by the other day and was reminded why I had stopped coming here. From the outside look and first impression this store can come off as very elegant and nice but once you look around at not only the clothes but by the employees she has working for her you begin to see it is all just for show. The clothes she has are way over priced and cheap. The last 3 shirts i purchased from her got holes in them within the first week or two of owning them. Now when im paying $150-$200 for a nice shirt I expect it to last, this all happened before the first wash even. When I approached Sydney about refunding or exchanging the first shirt she was very rude and short with me. I have spent my share of money in this store and to be treated like that was a slap in the face. The owner (Sydney) thinks she is better then everyone around her. She is very into gossiping about people, even her own employees behind their back. Some of the girls she has working in her store are also very rude. Recently when I had gone in on the weekend to shop, there was about 2 other customers in the shop when i first arrived. The 2 girls that were working were standing behind the counter whispering and giggling, not once did they look up to greet me or ask if I needed help. 30 minutes into my shopping I made my way to the dressing room where I stood for 5 minutes waiting for them to acknowledge me and ask if I would like a room. No such thing happened. I had to interrupt them and the girl rolled her eyes at me as if I was interfering with her conversation. After being helped she proceeded with her convo in a whispering tone. I could not make out what she was saying but I did over hear hear them make a reference about me and whisper then start laughing. When i was done I made sure to let the girl know I had heard exactly what she said and the look on her face was very surprised and she had nothing to say. Now youd also think working at a higher end boutique they would have some sort of dress code or the girls would be nicely dressed since they are also their to help you shop and make money off what you buy. There is a blonde girl that has helped me in the past, she made reference to the fact she had attended a fashion school, FIDM, she was however dressed a little tacky. She was wearing some leather boots jean shorts and a wrinkled shirt, her hair looked like it had no been brushed and she looked like she had spent the night out drinking and did not change her makeup. It is not a good impression for a store that is trying to sell high end clothes. She was very unprofessional. It is said to see how they have all just let this store go. I dont see hardly as much traffic in and out of this place like in the past but with an owner and employees like this it doesn't surprise me. read more

I shopped at Amelie years ago, and due to their rude and unhelpful service I still have the LAMB T-shirt purchased from there with the tags attached. I was given the run around when trying to exchange a Christmas gift without a receipt. I was told it would be fine, then told that no, I couldn't exchange. They treated me like a delinquent. Patronized me by calling me a child, and basically accused me of theft. Definitely no way to run a business! read more
