On our first visit, the woman looked like she had a negative reaction from bad Sauerbraten at lunch or had just seen a Jack Black film. Either way, I cowered out and left. We can blame me for not giving her sourpuss a fair chance to be nice. Knowing my luck, she was probably as pleasant as the day is long. On the return visit we learned that not only don't they have shared banking with our CU in Reno, they don't offer many of the support systems available for back-up. Supplying a credit card at a friendly interest rate is great, but you need to structure it to be a safety net on an overdraft loan which is the support for overdraft on your share draft accounts. The employees are very friendly and make you feel like everything will be taken care of. My auto refinance turned into a disaster. The pay off check was lost and they wanted me to call UPS to find out where it was. My original loan company was calling me every day because my payoff was late. I was stuck in the middle and having to do all the phone calls trying to find out where the check was. Overall America First is a decent credit union to bank with. I've been with them for many years, using them for my primary checking account without too many issues. What you need to understand is that unlike some other CU's, they don't have a huge presence here in Nevada, so if you need the services of an actual branch they may not be for you. I signed up with them back when I lived in Utah where they are everywhere. This location is one of their full service branches here in Las Vegas. When I lived in Henderson it was useful mainly for the drive through ATM and for odd in-person deposits I had to make. Of course, these days we mostly do things online, and while their platform is pretty rudimentary by modern standards, it works fine and I use it for most of my month to month bill payments without any major problems. read more

First of all the ATM was malfunctioning. I was able to put in my PIN, then the machine froze on me and captured my card. I went inside and explained my situation. She took my name and phone number, said someone would call before they closed at 3pm so I could get it. Well guess what....NO ONE CALLED!!! This is not the first time their ATM has malfunctioned. I took money out of the ATM machine, which was easy to use and worked great. I went home, and noticed there were red marks on each bill. I was going to the Philippines with my family. In thr Philippines, they do not accept ant torn or marked bills. This does not bother me, it is their country. I went to the bank and asked for it to be exchanged. I had the receipt, but they told me they would only do $40. Now I had to wait until I got home to re deposit the money. It was a huge headache. There customer service is non existent. I've had them for years and for years their ATMs RARELY can accept deposits. Due to these facts I use them for credit rebuilding (which I have done) but never swapped from my primary bank to them. I honestly believe this is their way to collect fees. They misapplied two payments of my on-time payments in three months on two different loan accounts causing me to show delinquent on both. I pay most of my bills online and I can't remember a previous misapplied payment at any other organization. They don't have unique loan numbers on their loans, but somehow that's the customer's fault when they mess up crediting the payments... I am terrified they are going to botch up my good credit, so I paid off my car loan with them extremely early-- like RIGHT AFTER THEY MISAPPLIED MY PAYMENT. I figured they couldn't lose another one if the account didn't exist anymore. They hadn't returned my title to me for three months after that, and apparently didn't send it until I complained about the three month delay-- it is now no longer just late, but is probably lost forever instead! They make everything the customer's fault, and talk down to you like you are a toddler, while in reality, it is their credit union that needs the toddler talk. No one else creates all these issues with the simple act of repaying a loan on time. This is the worst financial institute I've ever done business with. They welcome fraud with open arms. First, my wife and I have a joint account. We both have cards for the account. But the number on both cards and the pins must be identical. Doubling the chance for card fraud and halfing the chance to find out where the fraud started. Second, we had a fraudulent charge from California (we live in Nevada) for a company called 3nju2 CA Locksmith (as if that shouldn't trigger fraud) for $1,058.80, which, because it was our bills account, which we only leave a small cushion of extra, ended up overdrafting our account. We tried to call immediately when my wife saw the charge, but it was after hours, they have no 24hr support, and their automated system is just there to sell you an "Advanced Checking" account, as all options lead back to that. There is no way on the app to flag a fraudulent charge, or to set spending limits for out of state purchases, but you can add a photo or change the name of a payee, as if that's helpful. So if you experience fraud on a holiday weekend, it's impossible to meet the FDIC reporting standards, as you'll have to wait days to contact them. Then, when we called them about it, they told us they'll try to dispute it with the "vendor" (as if there was one) by contacting them, but it will take several days and the account will remain overdrafted until then. She said we may have to file a police report. Our old CU would have flagged the charge as fraudulent immediately, froze payment until they contacted me, and automatically initiated fraud protocol if I didnt authorize. With America First, they asked me "do you want to cancel the cards?" As if maybe we didn't mind being frauded. The whole thing is absolutely disgusting. I can't believe how little they care about the customers upon whom their existence as an institution depends. If you're in The Vegas Area, looking for a good CU go to Mountain America. They only have one branch and it's far from my house, but they were a far better institution. With what I know now, the extra gas for in person service was a small price to pay for financial security. read more

This is the closest America First Credit Union to my home, however, after visiting on many occasions, and finding their service to be consistently rude and uncaring, I choose to drive farther to the University Branch on Maryland, where the staff is overwhelmingly pleasant, or use the ATM machine in the drive through. Basically, I will do anything to avoid going inside this branch. For the past 10 days, even the ATM machine in the drive thru does not function properly, and will not accept cash deposits - I needed to run inside with my deposit. As expected, my teller was rude and completely unwelcoming. I advised her that the ATM in the drive-thru wasn't accepting cash deposits, and she didn't even make eye contact or respond. Expecting some kind of action, I repeated my statement, and she appeared irritated, breathed hard, and said she would let someone know. (Note: A week later, the ATM is still not working) To be fare there are two male tellers that are always pleasant to deal with, but outnumbered by three female tellers that are not. Unfortunately, you can't always pick who you get. So I will simply avoid this branch from now on, and drive farther to other branches. After Reading other reviews here on Yelp, I can clearly see I am not the Lone Ranger here. It is apparent many customers have had bad experiences at this branch. Rude, disrespectful and careless is not the only way I would describe "Lexi Lopez" and I could keep adding to the list, not to mention that she does not know how to confront customers and has real bad attitude, walked in to get my auto loan refinance on my brand new car and she could not answer my questions right and was just trying to bounce me off to go back texting on her cell as that's what she was doing when the counter asked her to take care of me. I have had multiple auto loans throughout my life and my last with with America First Credit Union. Tis has been THE WORST experience. My loan was paid off 2 months ago and they are still taking funds from my account. Each time it happened I spoke with one of their phone reps and they assured me it was fixed, only for it to happen again 30 days later. I even went into one of the only branches they have in AZ and closed my accounts in person. Should be good, right? Nope! I just received an email that there is another pending withdrawal. My bank is working to stop it, but AMERICA FIRST CREDIT UNION has done nothing to help. AMERICA FIRST CREDIT UNION IS THE WORST BANK/CREDIT UNION I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. So I went to America First Credit Union I made a deposit with the teller Martha. I came back the next week my money had not been deposited into my account. I asked the teller if she remembered me she tried to act like she didn't so I spoke to The assistant manager Aida no help ,after running home three times to try to find proof that I bought the check in and gave it to Martha.All of this was A waste of time. Came back on Monday the manager looking in her computer for my transaction with Martha I was having doubt for minute. So I called Las Vegas police the moment he got there the manager screamed I found your money I found your money pay attention to your transaction when you're in there people like Martha are are just waiting for that dummy. Do not use this Bank! I've had nothing but problems with them ever since I started using them seven years ago. Payment sent to the wrong account causing my credit bureau report to be affected. And then slow playing with the title work after each loan has been paid off. I'm currently waiting for them to resolve my title issues for a motorcycle I paid off half a year ago. Every time I contact them, they act like it's no big deal. I would not recommend this Bank to anybody! This Bank is 0-3 on title processing for me. Staff is fairly nice in person at the branch so two stars for that. The teller day to day transactions they handle fine for the Most part. Trying to get someone on the phone though seems to be nearly impossible. Also the communication regarding status on loans was pretty lacking. I had an auto loan app in and a personal credit line and after not hearing anything like I was supposed to I had to reach out to them for the status. When I finally was able to get a loan officer on the phone the response was "oh yeah it's been ready you can come down and sign" that was more than a week later. I've been banking with these people for about a year. I've never had a problem, until today. I had some woman named Lamar hassle me about a mask. This is the only place I've been since the mask mandate was lifted and then re-imposed, where somebody has hassled me to this extent about a mask. Judging from their regular clientele, I have a good deal of money in this bank. If this happens again, I will no longer bank with them. We have all had enough of the mask Nazi mess. Anyone that knows anything about health, knows a cloth mask does absolutely nothing for your health and if anything, it damages it. If you open an account using this Credit Union beware of the continual trips you will need to make to a branch or the multiple phone call you'll find necessary to do conduct your banking needs. I opened an account back in June due to my car loan. I decided to make this my main banking facility. Within that time until today, I've had to make several trips into a facility to prove my identity. I've had to make multiple phone calls to see what the problem is in transferring money from my current account to this one. After doing this over and over for three months, I decided this is just not worth it. I was looking for a bank that had local branches available and was happy this one did but after three months of frustration I decided to remain with my current bank. This bank is not at all member friendly and it worries me to put my trust in their services. So if you open an account be ready for months and months of frustration. Very professional service. I prefer credit unions over banks because the rates are better and it supports the state/community you live in. This credit union also doesn't charge for keeping your own money in safe keeping. Where as the larger banks have monthly fees, minimum requirements, and every other fees you can make up. Never, and I do mean NEVER, set foot in this building. The rank incompetence ranges from the branch management down to the individual teller and banker. It has been six months since I met a lien holder at this branch. We paid off the lien together for a vehicle. I was given a stack of inadequate documents to attempt registration of the vehicle at the DMV. Absolutely no one at this branch knew what documents would ensure I could register my newly purchased car. I was also verbally assured the title would be released and processed when I made the purchase. I am writing this six months later because I found out this morning that America First never released the title. The banker was sure quick enough to accept my check toward the lien back in May. I visited another branch and was eventually given the correct document to get the car registered. I still have no assurance the title is coming. The amount of passing the buck and utter lack of accountability is staggering. I could go on about the horrors of calling America First, getting vague email responses and having no concrete evidence that what the reps say is being done is actually being done.
