Aspen/Pitkin County Airport - Note All of the Private Planes Nearby, and This was Off-Season!

NO FRILLS AIRPORT…read more Aspen Airport is quaint and small. You'll feel like you're in a time warp as soon as you walk off the plane, straight on to the tarmac. If you look around you'll spot numerous private planes nearby. Supposedly, commercial jets are not prioritized over private ones, but sometimes pilots have informed passengers that they cannot land and must reroute due to the high volume of private jet activity! This time, I was flying off-season, and we landed early. Follow the crowd to the Entrance of the wood cabin. Don't worry about which carousel will have your luggage - there are only two of them! Food and drink are not available when you arrive, so head straight out the door where you'll find some seating while you wait to be picked up. Or, ponder the sign directing you to rental cars, shuttles, etc. When you depart, you'll notice how cute the airport is. Forget about all those airport lounges you belong to - none of them are here. We sailed right through security to our gate. Yours won't be hard to find as there are less than a handful. Since a flight was delayed due to mechanical issues, the small waiting area was packed. There is only one dinky cafe, Jedediah's, and a tiny shop, so we forked over $18.16 for a hearty and tasty breakfast burrito before our early morning flight. Aspen is located in a narrow valley surrounded by mountains, which creates a steep and demanding approach, unpredictable high-altitude winds, and tricky terrain. As a result, it is one of the most challenging and dangerous ones to navigate in the United States, so pilots need special training. Plus, ASE has a relatively short runway, requiring specialized operating procedures. Landings and takeoffs can be especially difficult during snow season or when it's windy, so don't be surprised if you're flight is cancelled due to the weather! When things go smoothly, though, the LAX to ASE non-stop flight is short and quick. I would rather fly in and out of here than Grand Junction, and I refuse to make the 3-hour drive from Denver. So, ask yourself: are you feeling lucky?

Comfy beds and great amenities. Staff was very friendly and great at suggesting day trips (thank you to the online concierge replies). Daily breakfast was decent, the mains changed daily (chicken and waffles, eggs, bacon, sausages etc + cereal, fruits, chia pudding, yogurt, grocery store baked goods, coffee+hot chocolate) Dinner portions are huge and very reasonably priced for the hotel/location. I regret not trying their burger. There's also the Audi experience (2 hours to drive the Etron). Unfortunately, couldn't access a few scenic paths bc snow was too heavy. I already own this car but to drive it in the snow -what a great experience. Location-wise, grocery store and all the shops were walking distance. There's street parking for $15/day, first come first serve (parking is free on weekends). Garage parking is $50. Concierge was also great at accommodating with a birthday surprise (macarons + balloons). However, we sat down in the lounge one evening and were ignored for over 15 minutes. I tried making eye contact and waved but still ignored. The workers served/gave menus+drinks to 3 parties that came after us. Maybe because we were the only Asians there? I hate the race card but it was so bizarre.. That was the only annoyance of the trip.. Overall, I would book Limelight Aspen again. I'm already planning to return in April

I requested a car service upon arrival from Smiddy and gave them the tail number and city of origin so that they could track the flight. I requested two seat boosters for safety. The flight was delayed. When we landed the car service was not there. We waited about 20 minutes for them to arrive. No booster seats for the children were provided. As we are being transferred, one of their employees calls the driver and tells her, in a very rude tone, to hurry up in dropping us off. I had other car services scheduled with them and decided to cancel them and use a different service. I am this family's assistant, and when things like this happen, I look bad. 3/23/2014 - My credit card was charged $260 when it should have only been $90. It was only a 15-minute transfer. I spoke with Wendell and he refused to give us a credit. Their claim: We were late in arriving so they charged us for two car services. Our claim: They should have tracked the flight with the information provided, and there was no reason for not having the seat boosters or for being rude. Not even an apology. My advice: Never again!
