We are living in strange times during this unprecedented covid time and air travel of course has fallen victim to the ripple effect of this pandemic . I honestly try to fly below the radar and be flexible when it comes to air travel . I try to make things easy on myself with TSA precheck and premium seats but sometimes there are gonna be unpleasant situations with any kind of travel , including air . With American , my flights have been cancelled , delayed , I've been bumped from first class , sat on a tarmac for an hour and more . On a recent experience, we were grounded and delayed for an extra hour because the flight did not have the minimum amount of flight attendants. They finally found one and she happened to end up seated next to me . She told me she was literally a passenger (not working ) on the flight and was approached by American employees who told her the flight would be cancelled if she didn't work it . She basically saved the flight . There's a shortage of employees everywhere due to this covid pandemic and all airlines are effected by this . Weird times . The thing is you have to be your own advocate and don't expect any airline to go the extra mile without being pushed to (even if you have status). Anytime I have brought a shortcoming to their attention , American has done their best to find a fair resolution and right the situation. You must be vocal and firm in requesting whatever resolution you want because most times they will only do the minimum or nothing at all . Pro tip : if your flight is delayed or cancelled you have the right to request a food voucher if you are waiting at the airport - Google it and definitely ask for those vouchers should your flight be delayed . If you require a reasonable accommodation make sure you plan ahead and talk with the attendants so you can have a smooth flight . At the end of the day , we are all human and sometimes life is hard and travel unpleasant but kindness is free . Pass it on and it will come back to you ten fold ! read more

Subject: Feedback regarding bad boarding experience for Flight AA2452 I am writing to share my concerns regarding a negative experience I had while boarding flight AA2452 today, May 25, at gate B5. As a passenger traveling in First Class (seat 1F), I approached the gate when Priority boarding was announced. Upon doing so, I was addressed by the gate agent in an unprofessional manner and told that it was not my boarding group. When I attempted to clarify that First Class was included in the current boarding announcement, the interaction remained confrontational rather than helpful. Furthermore, the boarding instructions provided over the PA system were confusing; the agent conflated multiple groups, including those requiring special assistance and Priority/First Class passengers, which led to unnecessary tension at the gate. I believe that mutual respect is essential in customer service, and I was disappointed by the dismissive attitude displayed by this staff member. I trust that you will address this matter to ensure that future passengers receive more professional and clear communication during the boarding process. I have been flying American for half of my life and I have never had a problem. But this last trip was an absolute disaster. Not only did they lose our luggage, but they lied about when it was going to be delivered! That kept saying it was going to be in 6 to 8 hours and nine days later they were still saying the same thing. I was in Italy without luggage. On the last day, it was delivered. At that point, it should've just come back to Charleston! Now, when I submitted all of the receipts that I have, they are constantly giving me the runaround. I will never fly American again. Not to mention that the interior of the airplane was dirty. 14 hour flight and I had to constantly wipe everything down. The food was horrific. Luckily today there was a wonderful flight attendant from Palm beach to Charlottesville. I'm traveling first class because as I get older, suitcases get heavier at only 30 lbs. I had a nasty flight attendant from Charlottesville to west Palm beach which American Airlines called to apologize. Which was nice..But today I had a nasty man who checked me in at ticketing. I asked if he could put my luggage on the scale as I had hurt my back earlier. He responded with pack lighter. Terrible service with late/no communication. Still sitting and waiting to get off the flight that should have been here four and a half hours ago. First they changed the gate. Then they kept changing the boarding time, no announcements. After my husband noticed that the plane wasn't even at the gate, they finally announced it was in the hangar and they were waiting for it to be towed to the gate. When it finally got there we boarded and sat. And sat. And sat. Finally a food truck rolled up to restock the plane. No announcement about that. Brattiest spoiled tickets ever screaming two seats up - parents even less competent than American. Finally took off. Landed in Charleston - but then had to wait for a gate assignment. Never again! I'm old enough to remember when AA was THE airline to fly. Now they behave like Spirit, but at least Spirit admits they're a discount airline. AA canceled my flight 12 hours before takeoff and of course there were no seats available on other AA flights that day. They blamed weather. I flew Southwest with no weather issues. Called AA for a refund but they said no, it was non-refundable. Called a few times because THEY canceled the flight. They gave me a $50 credit. I'll avoid AA from here on and suggest you do as well. read more

Have had pretty good experiences when flying out of CHS on American. Gate agents are helpful/friendly, and check in/luggage drop off line usually moves fairly quickly. They also have a number of multi-airline kiosks against the wall when you first walk in. They've started reducing the number of flights here from my city (used to be 3 a day, now 2), but making the most out of limited options. read more

The line to check bags was 40 minutes long and when we went to get our tickets the worker said that we cannot have our tickets since it is within 45 minutes of departure. She proceeded to tell me that she can't put us on another flight and put us on standby without any explanation or help. Would recommend flying Delta or even spirit over this joke of an airline. Worst flying experience of my life. All of our flights were delayed. This caused us to almost miss a connecting flight. Had to run at full speed to get to the gate at Dulles Airport. Huge mask Nazis. I arrived gasping for breath from my mile run, pulled mask down to catch my breath, and was immediately scolded. One flight attendant on the plane who looked to be 60 years old, and too large to walk down the aisle without her ass hitting the side of my head. They tried forcing me to check my one carry on bag. I recently took a flight from LGA to CLT on 2/21, flight #AA1782. The flight was to depart at 7:55am. We did not take off until closer to 9:30am due to "maintenance issues (ice valve issue & refill gas). We sat on the runway for almost 1.5 hours and did not arrive into CLT until 10:50AM. While I certainly understand that unexpected maintenance issues may arise, we were supposed to arrive at 10:08 with a connecting flight to CHS at 11:20am. No one from American bothered to contact our subsequent flight to notify them that we were running behind nor were we provided with any updates about our anticipated departure or new arrival time. When we did finally arrive, my fiancé and I ran to the gate and arrived at 11AM. The flight was departing at 11:20 and the gates were not supposed to close until (input time here). Nevertheless, we were informed by the gate agent, Derwin, who was extremely RUDE, that the flight was booked and our seats had been given away! I do not understand how our seats could be given away when the flight did not yet leave and passengers were still boarding when we arrived? Moreover, how are stand-by passengers bumping us when we are in boarding group 6 and they were still boarding group 8? Why did the captain or tower not notify the gate agent about the delayed flight? When I then asked Derwin how he planned to remedy this situation, we were told we could not be guaranteed any seats on the next flights to CHS at 1 or 2:30pm as the flights were fully booked and would need to take an 8:30pm flight. Again, I don't understand how we could be dropped from our flight by stand-by passengers and then told to wait until 8:30pm to depart for our final destination. Unfortunately, we had a wedding rehearsal dinner scheduled at 3pm that day so departing at 8:30pm was not an option. Thus, we were forced to rent a car in Charlotte and drive 3.5 hours to CHS, which then made us late to our rehearsal dinner! I find it ridiculous and absurd that our seats were given away when we were at the gate 20 minutes before departure due to an airline maintenance issue and had to spend our own money to rent a car and pay for gas/parking. I understand reviewing your policy that you do not typically refund gas or car transportation, but as you can see from the transpired events, this was American's fault for giving away our seats and having an airline maintenance issue which caused us to arrive to our connecting flight later than expected. We were inappropriately dropped from the flight and offered no form of compensation as you could not get us on any later flights due to overbooking. We booked these flights in November and were never even contacted before our tickets were given away! According to DOT, we are entitled to a written statement explaining why we were bumped & denied boarding compensation. I am writing to kindly request reimbursement for the rental car, gas, and parking as well as flight vouchers for the horrendous customer service I received. read more

Over the years I've flown many great airlines like Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, and Delta; I've also flown the cheap seats like Southwest and formally AirTran. But when it comes to the worst it's American Airlines which I've had to fly quite a few times; each time seems worst. I only fly American Airline when I have to. I've never had bad service from the crews, but the plane themselves are just horrible. The seats are smaller than other airlines; and they keep getting smaller. They have no in-flight entertainment built in; you have to use your device with their app which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. There are no outlets for charging your phone/tablet/laptop/etc. There is never enough room in the overhead bins. And on the last few flights there was no coffee, soda, water, etc; no f&b service. And not to mention even without all the amenities of a normal airline they still charge outrageous ticket prices. read more

Wow, the customer service here is horrible! First check-in the lady rudely asked if I'd tried checking in online or at a kiosk. Yes and yes but neither worked. Seemed so annoyed to do her job. No seats were assigned to me or my husband. 2nd check in lady at gate also ridiculous. I walk up and she ignores me. Not even a hello one moment. Just....nothing. Then finally she asks what I need. This is a fraud warning. I had purchased a ticket along with extra cabin seating. Afterward they canceled my flight. I called and made new arrangements. They informed me that my extra cabin seating would be refunded, and I would have to purchase extended cabin seating on my new flight. They lied. They refunded 20% and pocket the rest. If this is how they intend to win people back, thank God Southwest is still around. Given the opportunity to do the right thing, or just stick it to a customer, they will stick it to you. read more

I cannot begin to convey how deeply impacted I have been by my most recent experience with American Airlines! My flight was delayed from 2:37 pm 1/14/2020 until 10:pm same day. That's not the worse part. After 7 hours waiting I went outside to smoke a cigarette (not proud but it is what it is), I was essentially "locked out" of Charleston (SC) airport -- TSA was closed!!!!! I got the Airport police to find an AA representative to book me on another flighted scheduled for "the next day!!!!!!!!" So this is how it looks: 8 hours of work lost ($42 per hour), extra day in airport parking at DFW - $25 (which by now I don't have - don't know HOW I'm gonna get my car out when/if I land).....and missed meeting this morning (arriving in Dallas too late). I cannot believe this series of events and the domino affect it's having on my life!!!! I rate American Airlines a negative 8. I recently took a flight from Ft. Myers to Charlotte NC to Charleston SC. What a nightmare. From the ticket agent who questioned if I paid my luggage ahead of time to the multiple delays causing me to miss my connection and being placed on the second to last flight of the day and sending my baggage on the last flight of the day. American Airlines is absolutely horrifically terrible. Staff is terribly rude, they don't know what their doing, they always act and seem annoyed, they act as if they don't care about children, and overall they do a lousy job. Here are some experiences I've had and other people had. When we were in the gate my grandmother didn't have a seat number or anything on her boarding pass, so we went to the front desk in our gate asked the employee what was wrong. Instead of being polite and helpful he was incredibly rude and acted as if we were yelling at him (we weren't at all) and instead of an explanation he told us to ask somebody else! So that was an inexcusable experience. Another lousy experience is when we arrived to our destination and went to get our baggage. First of all we didn't know where to get our luggage so we went to the information desk and asked and they said (rudely) that we had to watch screens for the our number to come up so we did that and after like a half hour the number still hadn't popped up so we went and asked again and got the same rude answer. Then like a half hpur later our luggage finally came. Bad experience that was. While we were coming to our destination we had met 2 people who were also going to our destination and they had a bad experience too! They said that they had been over charged for a terrible experience. They had to pay $1500 while we were only charged around $500. They also said they were yelled at because they were asking a question! Overall, this is why taking American Airlines is a horrible terrible confusing overcharged rude airline to use. Whenever I fly out of CHS, the ticket and gate agents are always friendly! Most always have a smile on their faces. American offers the most flights from CHS, which makes it very convenient whenever I have to travel for work. Most of the flights are to Charlotte, about one every hour and a half or so, and from Charlotte, you can connect to almost anywhere east of Dallas, but if you have to go West, there are flights to Dallas as well, which pretty much connects you to anywhere on the west side of the country. If you're trying to go south of the border, one of the several nonstop flights to MIA make it easy for a convenient connecting point, and if you're going to the Northeast, Philadelphia flights are easy to come by as well. It's been published that AA will also begin service to Chicago, so more of the dots will be able to be connected more easily. All in all, AA has lots of options with friendly service! read more

I was a little emotional being that I was leaving my family for a deployment. I was standing somewhere on the side where I wasn't in line with another lady who was making small talk to make me feel a little better. I was obviously waiting to get my boarding pass and rather than politely helping me, he very rudely said "Do you need something?! Because the line is over there!" Received a message early this morning that our flight from Regan to PVD was delayed so on a whim took off to the airport to see what the airline could do. Upon arriving we met Cheryl, she looked at our situation and went to work. She spent a great deal of time looking for what suited best to help us without just stranding ys somewhere else. She quickly got us on an earlier flight with an earlier connection home. We made it all the way to PVD with no issues. I have never had such a horrible experience in my life. I was scheduled to leave Dallas at 8:40 pm on Friday. I was stuck at the airport until 11:00pm due to multiple delays and finally a cancellation of my flight due to American Airlines staffing issues. When I went to rebook the attendant was laughing as the flights were either filing up or canceled and that I was unable to get home to my children. I could not believe someone could be so unprofessional! Because the flights were cancelled so late I was forced to acquire a hotel room with exaggerated rates. It cost 250.00 to stay the night any where near the airport. I then boarded flight 1979 which was also delayed at the gate almost making me miss my connecting flight. As they started to do drink service I asked to buy a sandwich. I was told no that I was only able to buy a snack pack which I agreed to. After everyone around me was served and I still did not have my snack I reminded the stewardess of my request she snapped at me saying she would get it when she was ready and gave me a mean look. Upon her return and her attitude, I kindly asked her what her name was. She rolled her eyes and told me her name was Ester. I was shocked at the manner I was treated! Upon landing I had another gate change which took me all the way across the airport, due to our untimely arrival I ran all the way there. Only to find out that flight 5307 was late arriving as well and also was not leaving on time. I was not served anything on this flight. It was hot and unbearable. When I FINALLY arrived at Charleston I picked up my bag only to find out they had broken the wheel off of it and said nothing! I schedule over 100 traveling employees flights. I will not be scheduling any of them with American in fear they may have a similar experience. read more

Garbage airline. I bought a ticket for my daughter Charleston SC to LA. First leg Charleston to Charlotte was late in arriving so she missed her connecting flight to LA - the flight we paid extra for and bought an upgraded seat - $70. So, I wanted a refund. I called AA and customer service was completely oblivious to how to handle the request - "You got to go to the website and file a complaint and claim. Ok, where on the website. I don't know" I was told. I tried calling HQ at 817-963-1234. VM says "sorry we're closed" this was at 2pm on a weekday. I finally backed in to how to file an online complaint and ask for a refund but, I don't trust AA to be responsive so I filed claim with the credit card company to reverse the charge. They did. To my surprise AA responded to my complaint but said they would not be able to respond to it for 7 weeks. Amazing. I called the credit card company and they said that AA actually has up to 8 weeks to respond. I am almost done burning thru my 200,000 AA miles and then I will fly with which ever airline is rated the best and has the best ticket cost. Airlines offer no loyalty to their customers so they can not expect loyalty in return. Mileage programs keep changing and # of miles needed for a flight keep changing. Don't fight with the airlines - just ignore them - there is competition - fly someone else. read more

On recent trip, cancelled flight via text, said they were working to reschedule flight, 3 hours later nothing, call to reservations told me they couldn't find a way to get me home (earliest flight was 2 days away). Trip to airport finally got flights (of course would arrive much later and had to take 4 planes (instead of 2), then delayed on third flight, missed fourth flight, rescheduled again only to have plane break at the gate, finally got on replacement plane where they left half of the passengers at the gate to spend the night.. Finally arrived 9 hours late and no baggage. 18+ hours later still no baggage and their baggage claim website doesn't work... HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
