I have nothing good to say about this airline. The price that you get is only low so they can price gouge every single thing. I did not book this flight but have it to get home. We got off of a flight and had an 3 hour layover. The flight right after ours was the flight that we needed to get home. I politely asked if there were any seats left could we go on this one instead of waiting. The lady was rude and said Yes we have seats but you need to do it through the app. I asked how do I do it through the app and she said through the app. She then said the app won't let you do it since it's within the 45 minute window. Crappy A321 outdated airbus flying ACROSS the country with the worst service EVER!! Do NOT fly this flight. The AA gate attendants are rude and don't give a flying you know what about service. Horrible customer service with a FROWN!! My Bf bought me a "first class" ticket so I would come back to NY and this is what I got... Old A 321 out dated crappy plane that smells like farts and bad breath with a side of really nasty perfume that the flight attendant was wearing. I used to love American but the last 3 flights have been delayed or cancelled. I was flying from Chicago to Phoenix and received a text it was delayed 10 minutes later it was on time. 3 hours before flight it was cancelled due to weather. Funny, I was sitting outside and flights were taking off huh. After being on hold for two hours I spoke with a supervisor and it was cancelled due to staffing. I'm not sure what the beef is against this airline because our flights have been awesome. The terminals are busy but hold that against Sky Harbor and not the airlines. The boarding process went smoothly, and all of the flight crew were smiling, polite and helpful. The plane was clean and the cost wasn't bad. Sure it wasn't Southwest low, but we were flying to Hawaii, not Tucson. The only complaint is they now charge for in flight meals, which are pretty basic. I get the need to increase profits, but at the cost of the tickets it does seem a bit like excessive to charge ten bucks for a salad on a six hour flight. Same bs company, different day... we were booked for the longest time at a certain time. We show up and they had the doors locked on 4 other passengers including us.... The time was set at 9:30PM. We show up at 9:24 on the dot and the doors were already closed and they couldn't reopen them bc of some bs where they had already started their safety meeting... Had no choice as that was the only company that flew from the closest airport to PHX... but again, now I learned my lesson. Never ever again! Worse customer service ever... all the ladies at the door had to do was just call the cabin and let them know that the passenger who were booked are here... bet you instead they overcharged other people and sold them out seat... now we're rebooked the following day on standby... bc we are not even sure we can get on that one... We were at the terminal two hours before departure and an hour before boarding they announced our flight was delayed 5 hours. We were given a voucher for a hotel and it took us 1.5 hours to shuttle there and check in. We had first class tickets and received nothing but a $12 food voucher which the airport vendor would not accept. read more

I was heading to Quito, Ecuador from Southern California and had an unfortunate 8hr layover that ended up turning to almost 24hrs in Phoenix. I was notified that my flight to Miami will be delayed which means i will miss my connecting flight to Ecuador The first lady i talked to on 6/16 around 6pm said my only option was to fly out the next day since all the other flights were booked, and that she'll "look out for me". I followed her advice and stayed overnight even though i was not offered any accomodation whatsover. Next day comes flight at 10pm was suddenly cancelled due to "weather issues" even though there is another flight, same destination and only 2hr difference that is still on schedule which didn't make sense to me. I came to the American Airlines customer service to figure out my other options. The lady working at the time could care less about my problem. She kept on talking to her co-workers rather than help me out. It seems like she was just pretending searching for things. She said my only option was to fly to Dallas then to Jacksonville then to Miami (all in all wasting my PTO flying to different cities I can care less about). I noticed that other customers of a certain skin color were treated better than I was so I decided to take matters into my own hands and searched for the next available flight on my own. I then showed it to her and suddenly she was able to print out my tickets which led me to believe she barely made any effort in helping me out. read more

American Airlines stole my money. During Covid they gave me a "flight credit" instead of giving me my money back. Now the "flight credit" has expired and they never notified me. I paid for service and they "expired" my credit even though they canceled the flight. I have reached out many times for assistance and get the same reply... they don't care. This will be a short review. Use Southwest. AA flight attendants are older and grumpy. And this airlines doesn't care about you. Cancelled our flight with no compensation and when we did get a flight out they damaged my suitcase and they broke 3 of my husbands golf clubs. And the funny thing is all 3 clubs are different length, sit differently in the bag but all were broke in the same spot. This was done intentionally. This was done on purpose by a hateful AA employee. When you pay $180 in baggage fees I expect some respect from baggage handlers with my property. Several individuals on our flight had multiple carry-on's and nothing was said. One man had a huge backpack, a roller bag, a laptop bag plus a bag of food. He took up a whole overhead bin. I will NEVER fly this airline again. With the $200 in baggage fees, the $400 to repair 3 golf clubs, $200 for a new suitcase and the inconvenience of the cancelled flight which made us pay another $60 in crappy airport meal fees it's not worth it. read more

This is how you know that American Airlines doesn't value its premium customers whatsoever. Gate agents in Phoenix regularly use the premium line for pre-boards and sneer at and berate the airlines best premium customers who, frankly, keep this airline flying! Look, no one minds pre-board who actually need time or assistance to board. But (1) why must these snarky Phoenix based gate agents use the premium line for pre-boarding while treating American's best passengers like shit? And (2) why, this morning (and way too often) did these snarky bitches pre-board 20 people (after the wheel chairs) who needed no assistance whatsoever (all the time sneering at AA's best customers?) Is terminally stupid now a pre-board criteria? If so, maybe you Phoenix gate agents should get on board. Clearly my annual $20K+ spend on American Airlines is of no value to the airline whatsoever. American Airlines employees seem to hate their job. They go out of their way to be unhelpful. My plane from Phoenix to San Diego was delayed 6 hours. I went to the customer service desk to get a food coupon--something that is my right with the federal government airlines bill of rights. First, the service desk denied this was a right. I showed them the place on the dot-gov sight where it is spelled out. Then she said they couldn't give them out until 4 hours had passed from when the plane was delayed. In other words they couldn't give out the coupon at 11:00am for lunch. I had to wait until 3pm-- even though she admitted the plane would be delayed over 4 hours. I asked, why. The monitor showed that the plane would be delayed over six hours. She said that it was the airlines policy. I asked if it was also the airline's policy to deny the customer the coupon to begin with, as she had. She said "Have a good day! Next customer." I find it perverse that the coupon could be a goodwill gesture to sooth the traveler who is delayed in an airport due to maintenance problems with their plane. Instead it becomes a document miserly dispersed to further frustrate and anger the customer. Nice job, American. read more

Another sh***y flight directed by American Airlines, shocker! To start, I leave from XNA to Tucson, with a connection at sky harbor PHX. Of course as usual, I get a free carryon, but alas, the plane doesn't have room for this carryon. Despite advertising a free CARRY ON, not a free checked bag, a free CARRY ON. Why offer us the opportunity to bring a carry on when you never have room? Don't they know how much space they have? Don't they know how many passengers per flight? Clearly not. Same old thing every time i fly AA. So of course, I forced to check my bag (which given the unreliability of this company, I really don't feel comfortable trusting them or their employees with my luggage). But, "free of charge" of course! What a kind gesture. So anyways I make it to my connection in sky harbor and again, shocker, the flights delayed. Was meant to board at 4:20 and now I'm writing this at 6:40, still no ETA. The "employees" at this gate let us know after waiting for 2 hours, that the plane is missing a whole part (not concerning at all right?!) so we have to wait for them to order it, deliver, and then install which they are allegedly installing it as I write this, but again, who knows with them. The updates are sparse at best. About 20 minutes ago they announce they have another flight to Tucson that departs at 6:50 and if we want a spot to get in line. So I do just that. After standing in this for 15 minutes i get up there, try to get rebooked on this new flight, and the employees inform me that if u have a checked bag, u cannot get rebooked. So basically, AA offered me a free carryon (carryon means ON THE PLANE btw), then forced me to check it, then after waiting hours for this broken plane, I'm not allowed to rebook because I have a checked bag. That they forced me to check. After lying that I get a free CARRYON. Make it make sense. Do better. Still no updates on ETA, an absolute mess of an airline. read more

Our flight leaving Dallas, Tx was delayed from 12:30pm to 5:50 pm ish. This caused us to be late to my wife's grandma's funeral at 5:30 pm. How did we not miss the whole funeral you ask? Well, around 1:20pm, we made the executive decision to rent a car and drive all the way to Houston, Tx. We arrived in Houston before the plane even took off. Both of us exhausted & my wife still had to sing a song for the wake. Then, on the way back, our flight was delayed, missed the connecting flight, AA put us in a hotel & said the earliest flight was the next day at 3pm. Once we got to the hotel and looked online, the 8:30 am flight had about 10 available seats?!?!? My wife called AA, the guy said he doesn't know why we were offered to be put on 8:30am stand by when there is space available. Then told us the computer system won't let him change us to the 8:30am plane. He was weird though, mannerisms, coughing all over the phone, barely speaking to us that we had to say hello a few times because it was dead silent and we thought he hung up on us. So I called AA, a lady was able to move us to the 8:30am flight w/o a problem. So that is 2 AA employees that have us the wrong information which affects us & our patients dramatically. We now had to cancel both of our morning patients which is about 19 ppl total. By the way, our 8:30 flight kept getting delayed to 9:46am. Changed our gate from B2, to A1, to B7, then back to A1. Made all these ppl walk back and forth multie times, & found out B7 is under construction (they're pouring concrete). The AA employee at A1 doesn't know why we were all sent to B7 because it isn't even a functioning gate. I'm skipping a lot of details fyi, but u get the idea of how our roundtrip w/ AA has been. After booking through Expedia I was forced to cancel.or change my plans... American Basic won't let you cancel or chamfer plans even when you are more.than 30 day from you travel. My second flight into Phoenix in the last couple of years and all went smoothly from take-off to landing. Our checkin for our return flight was smooth as well in Phoenix. I have flown American for years with minimal issues. AA gates have ample seating at the gates, although Admiral's Club lounges are small for such a large airport. read more

This last March American Airlines defrauded me out of over $5,000 by canceling a ticket without notice and forcing me to purchase another ticket at a significantly higher rate. I have all the proof I need to win this case in court, with recorded phone calls and a detailed outline of events with names and times. They have failed to refund me and there is no way of speaking with their refund department as they only work through mail. They have not responded to my letter of claim against them. I made a reservation on April 22nd. I was to fly from fresno to Dallas on June 30. Late the night before they changed the flight time 3 times and I would be unable to make my connection to South Bend, IN. They rebooked me now with 3 layovers instead of 2. I would not arrive until 11:40 P.M. Family members could not pick me up at that time. So once again my flight was changed but I have to take a red-eye and instead of arriving on Sunday, I will arrive on Tuesday. This was not due to bad weather. Poor planning on American's part. I can't be mad at the Phoenix airport. Not at all. It's a hub so you know it is gonna ba busy. But the vibe is cool and clean. The staff are friendly-ish and they really try and help. They have a bit of the Phoenix vibe to them so if you're unsure of what that is then you may be taken by surprise by it or mistake it for some attitude. I can see some people bring annoyed by this place. It's smaller than your average hub and there are just as many people so it can seem cramped at times but luckily most people will be in and out. read more

AA incorrectly charged us, $100, for an overweight bag. The bag weighed 52 pounds BUT the ticket was first class, domestic, and that weight limit is 70 pounds. The AA agent made a mistake. A ticket was submitted to resolve the matter but AA decided they "simply cannot refund fees that were collected within our policy guidelines." Ummm...I'm asking that you follow your guidelines. Tammy at the check in counter in Redmond OR (RDM) made more work for self trying to get rid of us rather than help out with the mess that AA made with our tickets by re-routing ,canceling and changing dates of departure. We always prefer to fly American. Never had an instance of bad staffing. Planes are typically clean and given we have the AA card, we have access to their lounges which is a great escape from the typical airport crowds. WiFi available during flight via the AA site so you can watch movies or play games on your phone from their inflight selections. read more

Their staff are not great when it come to service. The stewardess when she comes and ask what do we need, my hubby requested for water. The stewardess said that we wait for they will give the complimentary cookies and drinks soon. However when she served the food and drinks she just passed by. So my hubby pressed the light for assistance then the other stewardess saw it. Approached us asks what we need and she turn off the assistance light. Then here comes another disappointing part on our way to Phoenix, Arizona from O'hare airport in Chicago , the staff in charge in the boarding of the passengers came in late and she was rattling while doing her job. My hubby had approached her several times (4-5x) because we need a printout of our boarding pass but she kept on saying that she still not ready blah blah blah. If I could have given their reservations team 0 stars, I would have. They overcharged me the first time I booked my flight. So I had to call back and was told they had to cancel my booking and start over with a new one. The 2nd charge came through and they charged me the wrong amount again! I asked to speak with a supervisor. Supervisor tells me I must be reading my credit card app wrong and that they 100% charged me the correct amount. She then told me to wait until tomorrow. When I asked who I could speak with if it was still wrong, she said I should just call the general line again, but there wasn't going to be a need to because it was 100% impossible that I was charged incorrectly twice. Regardless of making one or two mistakes, I found that they lack courtesy and don't know how to provide good guest service. They might as well have AI bots answering their phones since their agents are either not properly trained or aren't held accountable to any type of standards. Update - It turns out they did not process or request a refund for my 1st incorrect charge. I now have to submit a formal request for a refund that MAY be approved. Their excuse? Our flight got delayed for Los Angeles to Phoenix. We were told to go get rebooked at another gate. It was under construction and accessible. After struggling to find my way up stairs with my bag I was told they'd changed the departure and we were actually boarding. I had to rush back to the gate about a 10-15 minute journey. When we arrived in Phoenix other passengers were offered to ride in a cart (several of which appeared perfectly able bodied). I was walking with a cane and only had 10 minutes to get what their app explained was a 15 minutes walk. When I got to the gate the crew rushed us onto the flight even though I had stopped to use my inhaler. I do not understand why the airport would not offer to help a woman carrying a backpack walking with a cane assistance and then be impatient during a breathing emergency. Also there were many open seats on the flight I can't believe the overhead bins were full and they HAD to check my carryon. read more

I flew out from Phx to Dayton Oh with a connecting flight in Dallas on Christmas morning flight was to take off at 5 am because of a computer glitch on their part we sat at gate for 4 hours in the plane. When we were finally ready to take off as we start to taxi , the captain came back on saying DFW was closed due to thunderstorms. Another 3 hour delay. We finally depart land in DFW to find my flight has been pushed back from 3:45 to 930 pm. Now I have to say the captain and flight attendances were awesome. It was the gate people and the people at AA customer service desk that acted like they couldn't be bothered. I understand it was a mess but none of which any of it was the travelers . I asked a guy in charge in Phx ( tall skinny guy) hey what is AA going to do to make it right. He laughed and walked away from the counter. To make matters worst I got an email from AA offering me a $12 dinner voucher. Question when was the last time AA got a dinner for $12? Because I booked a week before XMas I over paid . But going to see my grandkids was well worth the $917 I paid. But the way I was treated was uncalled for.
