If I could give a - 5 star rating I would. Our flight to DFW was running late and several passengers including us were connecting to Grand Rapids. Our arrival gate was only 4 down from our connection. Instead of waiting for passengers that were connecting American Airlines left us stranded. We were auto rebooked on a later flight until American canceled it. We were rebooked a 2nd time for a 10:30 PM flight until it was cancelled. We had to book a hotel because American would not. Since there were no flights available in the morning we booked a flight on United. Our flight from DFW to Chicago had a tight connection and was running late. When we arrived for our connecting flight with 10 other passengers that American had abandoned we were told that they were waiting for us. Now that is how an airline should run. We will never fly American again and I will be cancelling my American Mastercard which I have had for over 35 years. I do not expect AA to read this review nor provide a response because after flying AA for many years I have seen how their customer service has degraded over time. They just do not care. read more

American Airlines is my go to choice and has been for 40 years. I have noticed an improvement in in cabin staff attitudes lately - a few years ago it was terrible - lately better. However, my flight today helped me understand why service is declining. I fly this route (TUS-LAX) about twice a month - today there was a new flight attendant in training (doing an excellent job). The WiFi connection for American never appeared as an option so I politely mentioned it to the training flight attendant- his reply, "American always takes a long time." Not true. Not polite. Not a great way to train staff .... BTW the WiFi never became active ... not a big deal but the training poorly that is a challenge! read more

I was on a flight and a passenger grabbed my hands and tried to "break my hands" because I was holding his seat up after he kept slamming his seat back against my knees. The flight attendant told me I had to allow him to recline his seat. But as you can see in the picture, there is no space for the seat to recline. She needed to fix this issue by changing seats but instead she walked away and actually said "hell no way am I dealing with this". When I arrived in Phoenix I spoke to a gate agent supervisor and they didn't do anything. I should have demanded police board the plane and charge him, but I was so upset I didn't think about it at the time. I'll never fly AA again. And for those of you who want to say I should have bought a more expensive "leg room" seat, this was all there was. This was a small aircraft flying into Santa Fe. In my estimation American Airlines has fallen to the very bottom of reliability as a passenger carrier. I almost never have a positive experience traveling with them and only do because of business travel rules. Today was particularly egregious with an over 6 hour delay of my flight. This delay will likely undermine about half of my objectives for this trip. My advice is to avoid American Airlines whenever possible. Update: flight was delayed 8:20 for maintenance. read more

I used to be a devoted Southwest airlines customer. Since they have changed their rules, seating, pricing, I decided to take American Airlines. I recently became disabled and have difficulty walking without assistance, usually a rollator. I also have difficulty walking long distances. I took an 'experimental' trip to see if I could still travel. American did everything they could to make my trip possible. The flights (4) were on time but I was unable to make one of them due to a short layover and the distance between gates in Phoenix. They were able to rebook me on a flight that left an hour later to get me home. I have no complaints about the airline or the assistance they gave me to make this trip a success. read more

I fly AA often, several times this year. I can afford first class, but I'm thrifty, and generally don't book FC. I decided to book FC this trip-it's a difficult family trip, from DFW to TUS and I always pick an aisle seat so I can get up, go to the RR, and I'm shy of window seats because I don't like to fly and I'm claustrophobic. I had an aisle seat reserved, but when I got my boarding pass they bumped me to a window seat. Presumably someone with "higher status" gets to do this. Not pleased. read more

Spoke with Jamal at Cust Service in Philadelphia after flight was delayed by equipment failure in Providence and caused me to miss my flight. He lied to my face. Claimed the delay was weather related when we were told in Providence that the wiper blade engine burned up. Jamal said they would not get me a hotel room because there was a 10 min weather delay. Our layover in Philly was to be 1 1/2 hrs. I've had issues with American before but this is absolutely outrageous l. And Jamal lied so easily! I will never use American Airlines again and recommend nobody should even consider them. I will give them ZERO stars but to post this message i have to allow at least 1. read more

Corporate greed is now apparently also at the expense of passenger safety. After boarding a crowded cross long distance flight the exit row was half empty, comprising only my girlfriend and another young petite girl in a row of 5 seats. After boarding was concluded and no one occupied those seats, several passengers, myself included, requested to sit in the exit row. The attendants refused and insisted that because it was an exit row it must be "a paid upgrade". Those seats sat empty the entire flight for no reason other than as a symbol to the other passengers that they should proactively shell out extra money on an already over priced flight. The real concern is that, as my girlfriend expressed- although willing and able bodied- the 2 small women would be unlikely to alone fulfill the exit row duties for an entire plane, including forcing the doors open. This is not to diminish their abilities, but rather a 5 person exit row requires 5 people to fulfill the duties. It poses a significant risk to the safety of the flight to have an unoccupied exit row and have 100+ people dependent on the sole efforts of these 2 small women. Whether intentionally obtuse or just purely greedy, American Airlines apparently values the safety of a plane at the going rate of 2 seat upgrades. read more

Lmfao Im 6/6 on flight delays with this Airline. My wifes last flight on AA was also delayed both ways. It sounds like a lie, how could the airplanes get delayed every single time? Today at the airport, not only was my flight delayed but BOTH OF THE TERMINALS ADJACENT. One was cancelled. On my last flight with AA they changed the tire on the plane, with everyone onboard the plane while the plane sat on the tarmac in Tucson for an extra hour. I also left my military id in my ACU jacket pocket. I went to preboard without it, and the lady laughed at me for some reason and then said with some type of tone "thanks for your service" Straight up NEVER flying AA again unless someone from corporate reaches out to me on this to make it right. Flight 2750 (Orlando to Phoenix) had amazing pilots, why? The one who did the announcing was clear with speech- some tend to ramble and if the acoustics are bad it makes for just words (ineffective). But back to the positives the "announcer" informed passengers that the pilot used to fly B52's and without a doubt (yes weather plays a role too) he flew AND landed the plane masterfully: smoother than a baby's bottom. Edited to give kudos to Jennifer. Her pleasant helpfulness when exiting the plane was top notch. Please recognize her and know that I later witnessed her being equally kind when explaining and assisting someone in a wheelchair. read more

I have been trying to get my 82 year-old deaf, and physically disabled mother back home to Texas for over 24 hours. In that time, American Airlines has delayed her flight 10 times, and canceled it outright twice. We've now been to the airport three times Trying to get her on a flight that was booked and paid for two months ago, and which should have left over 24 hours ago, American claimed that the cancellations and delays were due to weather at Dallas Fort Worth, but an exhaustive search of the FAA's database shows absolutely zero closures at DFW for weather related issues. It is a common practice for airlines to site whether issues for flight cancellations, when in fact, it it due to understaffing, or an attempt to consolidate several under booked flights. This is because airlines are not required to provide refunds or vouchers for meals or hotel stays if the cancellation is due to weather related issues... So they lie. And the screenshots and data that I've downloaded from the FAA's own system proves that. That's is against FAA regulations, and is an illegal, fraudulent activity. DO NOT REWARD THESE LIARS WITH YOUR BUSINESS!!! And if you do, don't say you weren't warned. * at a minimum, purchase cancellation insurance... you'll be using it. read more

I'm a Doctor here in Tucson and I literally have been working 10 months straight. My friend convinced me to take a vacation. On our way to the airport we got in an accident. When I arrived to AA front desk all shaking and rattled with now an additional issue to deal with here. I asked for the manager. The manager Kristi, didn't know I was a Doctor, didn't know I was just in an accident but she still listen to my concern and treated me like a valued customer. American Airlines you guys picked the right one when you hired Kristi for the job. Kristi, thank you for being you and helping me catch my flight to LAX so I could connect with my International flight for vacation. The customer service representatives working at the AA counter are truly awful! Our flight was delayed and we went to the counter to get help, Becky was extremely rude and refused to help us. She sent us to stand in line for specialty counter. We asked another representative who was walking by and her demeanor was not better. Even when standing in line, we noticed that the only representative who was friendly and smiling was the one working in the priority line. When we reached the specialty counter Becky said she'd be able to help us at this point . Yet, she remained extremely rude and we literally had to ask her " can you be less rude?" . Not only did we have to deal with the stress related to delayed flight but lack of any customer service skills made this even worse. The entire experience was appalling and outrageous! read more

Due to over 3 hour delay we missed connecting flight in Los Angeles to begin a trip to Thailand. Flight was last one of the day so no other options. Had to pay to change connection flight and charged for night at hotel. Ok they rebooked our American flight but having no confidence in AA we flew 12 hours before next flight. Worst experience ever! They all act like robots going through the motions. I will never fly with them again. Even a flight that was for a funeral that I needed the leaving date changed on was greeted with "please bend over so we can stick it to you real good". A week later another bad travel experience where they again wanted me to "bend over so they could stick it to me." I gave them over $300 and didn't get to use the ticket. Delays, delay, delays. Had to leave the airport, go home, come back the next day because they could not get me on another flight. The computer went down the next day due to the cloud problems. On the return flights, could not check in online. Had to go to Heathrow to check in. Found out that the computer had converted the numbers into letters and it would not accept my passport. Now in Dallas Fort Worth, midweek, not a cloud in the sky and our flight has been delayed twice. I hope I don't have to spend the night in the airport. read more

WORST first flying experience EVER! My mom and I took our daughters to Ohio for a week to visit a friend and I will NEVER be flying with this airline again, especially since they broke my car seat AND stroller (which are a travel system). Our first departure flight out of Tucson was scheduled on time up until we were supposed to take off, then they had to do a "system upgrade" on the fully boarded plane which left all of us sitting there for 45 minutes. When we made it to our layover, thanks to the 45 minute delay, we had 12 minutes until our next flight was due to leave and we found ourselves literally RUNNING through the Chicago airport with both girls in tow just to make our next flight on time, and we BARELY made it. The gates were on opposite ends of the airport and when we got to the next flight, after running through the airport like the Macallisters on 'Home Alone' we were confronted by the RUDEST flight attendants! The only decent/nice American employees we encountered were at our first departure flights check in counter and the employee that helped me make a claim for my stroller and car seat when we landed in Ohio. That was it! The flight attendants on every flight (both departing and arriving) were rude and had attitudes bigger than the planes themselves. Now, I've had to almost harass the claims department for a reimbursement for my car seat and stroller only to be told "well since the damage is to the frame of your car seat and your stroller can still be used we can't reimburse you for them, but we hope to keep you as a valued AA customer". What a joke! Then, just to add insult to injury, when we arrived back home and were collecting our luggage, we got everything BUT my car seat! I was told they'd "lost it" during our layover in Dallas and it wouldn't be back in Tucson until 12am the following morning. (Turns out, the gate attendant in Ohio never actually tagged the car seat or didn't scan the tag properly before placing it on the car seat which led to them losing it.) They did offer a free "rental" but even that was partially broken (the telescopic handle bar wouldn't move and we had to fold and squeeze my daughter in and out while using it, just to get her in the seat)! Not to mention, we rented a car using my AA Advantage account and I have STILL not received the 1500+ points for that rental, and we've been home for 3 weeks now. When I call and ask about it I'm told "yeah well it takes a while sometimes. They'll be on there though before your next flight with us", which I find hilarious as I've not made any future travel plans and when I do...it WON'T be with American Airlines. read more

Update: I know, I know....after my last AA experience - why would I fly American again but today I did. Truth is that it has the best connection from Ohio to Tucson. Anyway, my trip this time was uneventful - and that's what I like. We were a bit delayed in Ohio because of freezing rain and de-icing but the pilot did a good job making up most of the time. And he did a good job telling the passengers what was happening. Unfortunately my bag went to Chicago while I went to Tucson. Sad. Still a 2 out of 5 I have flown American Airlines for 25 years and have over 700,000 lifetime miles. Checking in today I was informed I have a 'basic economy' ticket. With this ticket, I am not allowed to bring luggage on the plane that would go in the overhead. My wife and I are traveling together but because of the type of ticket, we can't sit together. She has the same type of ticket I have and was also surprised. She bought her ticket separately and chose American so we could travel together. And we don't have seat assignments on the second leg, we are to get those at the gate at the next airport. There was nothing indicating these restrictions when I bought the ticket. I flew with american airlines a couple weeks ago. Most everything about them was great. Except one HUGE thing. They ask you ti check in via the internet 24 hours before the flight. So I do and then it sent me to a screen askungnme to choose my seat. Well the only seat available were isle seats and they wanted an additional 65 dollars to sit there. It wouldn't let me go past that screen without choosing a seat. I bought these tickets 6 months in advance, so had them paid for and saved money for this vacation. Now I'm hit with suprise fees before I can even leave for my vacation. These are people I'm trusting with my life, all of a sudden deliberately ripping me off. I definitely wont be choosing to fly with them again and wouldn't reccomend them to anyone. I guess that's why their rating is as low as it is. read more

I received racist and discriminatory treatment from this American Airlines location. It was 5:00 am and in essence... The old white woman at check-in hovered over me as I used the checkin kiosk. It was uncomfortable. She didn't greet me; just stood 2 ft behind me watching my screen the whole time. It felt like I was being surveilled. She assumed I didn't know how to use it, was barking instructions at me, physically stepped in front of me to touch buttons, etc. I had to tell her to stop (I'm in my 20's, so technology is well within my wheelhouse). When I clicked for 1 checked bag, she demanded I buy 2. I explained my duffel was a carry-on & she insisted it wasn't. I patiently said I flew with American several times that year with that bag and it wasn't an issue, so I'm not concerned. She demanded I show her by fitting it into a crate. I put it in & the side pocket of the bag stuck out. I simply removed some contents and put it in my suitcase, and it fit. The suitcase then weighed 51.5 lbs. The clerk at the counter rejected the bag (over a pound and a half, which from my experience any airline would've waived, but of course they rejected it out of spite). So I took something heavier out of the suitcase and put it in my duffel. The suitcase was back down to 50 lbs. She demanded I refit my duffel into the crate. I did, but since the added contents were hard objects & the duffle now had an awkward shape, I had to rearrange them to fit the rectangular edges of the bin. As I was on my knees in the airport doing this, she went to grab my bag OUT OF MY HANDS and said "I told you it wouldn't fit" while chuckling. She was clearly getting pleasure out of the attempted humiliation. I couldn't believe she reached to grab MY bag out of my hand. I finally snapped & told her to back off/give me my space. I was in utter and complete shock. She laughed and yelled to the checkin clerk "he doesn't want to check his bag but I keep telling him." Anyways it fit. I could've boasted or made a comment to her, but I was so aggravated and angry that I didn't. I just dropped my suitcase off quietly. The guy at the counter repeated that I need to check my duffel (even though he saw me fit it into the crate). I then, holding my frustration, politely told him "thank you but as I told your friend, I'm not worried about it." I got to the gate and kept an eye on the clerks at the boarding gate to see if they were going to give me trouble. I suspected the checkin desk might've called them and prompted them to give me a hard time. But literally nobody ever looked at me or my bag for that matter so I thought "in the clear." I got to the front and without looking at me first, the gate clerk starts saying "that bag has to get checked." Somehow from her peripheral she was able to tell the size of the bag hanging at my side? I went over the same nonsense again, at which point she told me to show her by once again, PUTTING IT IN THE CRATE. I had to step off line, open my bag, do the rearranging again and stuffed it into the crate. Her response "oh well, umm, I guess you got it to fit because you STUFFED it in there so whatever, it's fine." Really? Because if I was trying to fit my bag in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of me, I would've done what? Expanded it? Stretched it out? Elongated? Her comment made no sense & was clearly passive aggressive because she couldn't just be a professional and say "sorry, I was wrong" to a CUSTOMER. A simple "oh ok you're good to go," would've sufficed. But it was obvious from her tone that she really didn't want me to clear it had been hoping to embarrass me and prove a point. With that, I don't think she nor the male checkin agent were racist. They were standing by their colleague (the old woman) who I do believe is a racist & prejudiced. She saw a 27 yr old black male in a baseball cap, T shirt & sweats and assumed I was some inexperienced 20 yr old kid (I look young) which explains the bizarre kiosk situation. The way she snidely tried to manhandle me, it was clear she thought I was her inferior. Little did she know I'm a grown man with a corporate career, who at the time flew American VERY OFTEN. Not that she should discriminate against ANYONE for that reason either. But I refuse to believe if I was a middle aged white man (or woman for that matter) in a suit, she would've dared hover over my shoulder like that, or move me out of the way to navigate my check-in screen, or tried to physically snatch my property out of my hand while I was using it. The lady behind me boarding was also an AA flight attendant & whispered to me that she doesn't know why they made such a big deal because ppl are let on with bags way bigger every day. She was sweet/apologetic. It was disgraceful. Disgusting. I still think about it often (as a black man, it was mentally traumatizing). AA should be ashamed to have employees like that in the field "serving" its customers. read more

They had too much fuel on the plane for us to take off. It was too heavy. We sat in the plane for over an hour before they told us. Then we waited, and waited, and waited. Then they said if the fuel guys didn't come soon they would just drive to the end of the runway and burn the fuel off somehow--2021 Environmentally Conscious Company of the Year winner no doubt. As the waiting continued with no updates, they started talking about taking peoples' bags from the overhead bins without their permission and putting them under the plane. Not sure how this would lower the weight, but also, are our bags the company's property once we are on the plane? I wasn't aware of this odd contractual agreement. TBH this just seemed like an empty threat since they didn't take any of them out. They just opened the bins and looked at them. It was almost like they were trying to pathetically say, "This is how bad it COULD be, so it's actually not so bad, right guys? Right?" While waiting, absolutely floored by how bad this was all going, I hopped onto Yelp and noticed that American Airlines has the lowest rating of all the major airlines at Sky Harbor. Imagine my shock. When Delta nearly doubles up on your rating, you know you've got problems. A couple of times things got straight up absurd. TWICE a flight attendant said, "We are readying the cabin for takeoff," and then within a minute, we all got a notification from American Airlines saying our takeoff time was delayed for another half hour. I don't even think they knew that AA was tipping us off about their lies. The flight attendant walked down the aisle and checked our seatbelts--no joke--six times before we took off. Each time there was talk that we were getting ready to go. Overall, the lack of a sincere apologetic tone from the pilot was appalling. Pilots should have to take a social skills test. The bar doesn't have to be high. Anything north of a second grader's social skills would do. I got to my destination after 2 am. Goodbye American Airlines. Hello any other airline that is even halfway competent. Based on the Yelp reviews, it looks like that would be about any of them. Don't be fooled by cheap prices. I would have gladly forked over double what I paid to avoid this episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Final point: No other business would still exist with this level of ineptitude. Flew Dallas to Buenos Aires via AA Premium Economy seats and BOY, the upgrade is worth the $$$. First of all, Premium Economy is it's own separate section in between first class and normal main cabin. Yes, even the seats in the back row of the Premium Economy section recline. You get extra space and a foot rest. Touch screen TV and personal outlets under your arm rest that flips up. I was impressed with the little car package they give you, including a Casper brand blanket and pillow, travel toothbrush/toothpaste, lip balm, lotion, and noise cancelling headphones. You get coupons for discounts on Casper and Cole Haan (who makes the zipper bag you can also keep) - good marketing and I like it. read more

On both occasions because of flight delays I got stuck overnight in Dallas Ft. Worth airport. First time I lost a day of my vacation & second got stranded overnight on my way home. Take the advise of my recent cross country travel, NEVER, EVER use American Airlines to travel! My flight was cancelled from Tucson to Phoenix on a nice bright sunny morning. No explaination given. AA wanted me to wait until 3pm the following day (more than 24 hours later than my orignal flight) just to get to Phoenix. That would have meant losing my 1st day of vacation. After calling AA and explaining that I had reservations for a motel and appointments to keep, they were good enough to give me an entire new itinerary. I flew from Tucson to Dallas without a hitch. Thats where the nonsence began. Between more cancelled flights, delayed flights, missing connections because of delayed flights, spending 24 hours at one airport not being able to sleep and eating out of vending machines, I wasnt even offered a motel voucher or a food voucher. I was told I had to file a claim online for that. After spending the 24 hrs at the airport, AA finally set me up for another flight. 30 minutes before the flight was to leave, the flight was cancelled. I immediately called the number they gave me to complain. I was told they were going to send me an email for a claim. I never received the email or claim number. I then booked another flight on a different airlines because AA didnt have another flight to my destination until 6pm the following evening, and I was not going to miss another day of my vacation! OR sleep in the airport for another night! I ended up havingvto buy all new clothes and shoes, so I would have something to wear for my vacation. I have been home now for 1 week and I am SUPPOSED to have my luggage delivered to my door by 3om today. I guess time will tell. I WILL NEVER, EVER FLY AMERICAN AIRLINES AGAIN!! read more

I just sat first class from lax to Tucson and only got 3 drinks in first class. 25 minutes before we landed the flight attendant said she could not get me a drink because we were about to land??? I think I hate her. I spent the extra money on first class so I could be treated like a king; I left feel treated like a homeless guy on the side of the 405 begging for money for another drink. Oh anchorage told me as long as pups stayed in there bag and sat in my lap or floor there was but Seattle mated me buy a pet bag from them $50. I'm worried there going to get me again for the $100. I travel regularly for work and I don't have much choice other than SW or American Airlines. Candidly, their people are usually nice, but they could care less if they break your luggage, lose your stuff, change your seat without notice and are completely indifferent to poor customer service. The only reason I give them a 2, instead of a 1, is because they have a lot of employees that truly care and try to do the right thing. It's been 4 hours and all I received was a call saying they didn't know when they ( AA) , would be delivery my luggage that they gave " in hand" Just another reason to never fly American again. Got to the Tucson Airport at 900 am well on time for a 10:00am flight to LAX. American Airlines refused to change my flight from the 1:30 pm flight to the 10:00am flight even though there were two empty seats available! They claim my ticket wouldn't allow it. I offered to pay extra to upgrade the ticket. They still refused, saying they couldn't confirm me for a seat. This was at the actual boarding gate! Never had a similar issue with Southwest Airlines. AMERICAN AIRLINES, CONGRATULATIONS, FOR WASTING MY TIME, I WILL NEVER BOOK A FLIGHT WITH YOU AGAIN, EVER. Avoid this airline at all costs! My friends and I flew on AA from Phoenix to maui They rode first class and I went coach. When the beverage cart came, I asked for white wine. I was told they no longer serve alcohol! So it's OK for them to give you a can of coke, but for some reason a plastic bottle of alcohol will give you covid! Also, absolutely no food was served on this 6 hour flight because a sandwich wrapped in plastic is a covid risk. The beverage cart only made one pass. If you needed anything you had to ask for it. By the way, my friends in first class were given wine and food, because the little plastic curtain that separates first class from coach, keeps all the covid germs in the coach section.. No wonder this country is so messed up.. These are the most stupid rules and they don't make sense. Also,, I was never warned ahead of time that there would be no food. read more

Sorry folks......when your rights as a passenger start to read like a jail sentence....its time to bail. My flight to cabo was 150.00 less if i flew from tucson instead of phx. BUT WE STOP IN PHX!!! can you believe it? Then.....you are sternly reminded that you have no rights to anything unless you fork over another 50 bucks. Even then......fees apply! No overhead bin.....no seat choice....no group choice....no nuthin!! Hey American.....be more like Southwest!!! read more
