Needless to say I missed my flight, pissed my boss off and had to pay to to Redbook my flight. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE This is one of those places/services that I wish I could give ZERO stars for. We (my best friends and I) placed an online order at 9:50pm for 10:30pm and received confirmation of our order. So, we continued to get ready. When 10:45pm rolled around and we still hadn't been contacted about our cab, we called to check on the status. The representative told us that we had to wait another 30-45 min for a cab to come and that she would re-place our order. 30-45 min later, we called again and were told that there were no cabs in the area and none assigned to us. This is when we left the apartment and started walking. Thankfully, a cab from ABC cab picked us up and gave us great service. 2am: still no call from the cab company. Where was our cab? On my way to work this morning, one of these green Prius cabs ran a red light and very nearly hit me. I would have followed them to see exactly which number the vehicle had on it, but I didn't want to be late to work (I'm a fifth grade teacher). Taxi cab drivers have a special responsibility to obey traffic laws. The very nature of their work relies on safe transportation - for their customers and the other drivers on the road. This happened at the intersection of Fairview and Miracle Mile in Tucson. Incredibly irresponsible to be putting lives at risk like that. Shame on Discount Cab (aka Total Ride). My son uses Sun Van but because we live out of their service area, they contract with Total ride. This is the worst service ever. They treat booking times as if they are suggestions. My son is regularly an hour late to school and getting picked up. When called to speak to dispatch they tell me they will tell the driver. No, the driver goes where he/she is told. Eventually the woman I spoke to said ok we'll do that when I insisted they stopped sending the driver on other runs when they are supposed to be getting my son. They won't. I think she was in a car herself when i talked to her. I don't know why this company is still in business. Do not use them if you have a choice. read more

Discount Cab in Tucson (perhaps elsewhere, as well) is now TotalTransit or TotalRide. Sorry for the long review, but I think the outrageous nature of my experience warrants it. My wife and I were trying to assist her parents in returning from Tucson to the Chicago area. Her father is 91 and confined to a wheelchair; her mother is 92 and his primary caregiver. We called TotalRide on their behalf on a Monday to request a paratransit vehicle for the following Sunday morning - 8 am pickup for transport to Tucson International Airport. I received a confirmation text showing the correct date/time. Two days later, I called again to see if we would be able to accompany them in the same vehicle (we were on the same flight) and were told passengers were limited to the wheelchair person plus one. So, we ordered our own taxi for a 7:45 am pickup. Again, I received a text confirmation with the correct date/time. On Sunday, our travel day, we were waiting curbside for our taxi until 7:55, and decided we should call to see when it would arrive. The rep on the phone told me there were no taxis available in Tucson at that time. I explained we had a reservation, and his answer was, "Yes, I see that, but we don't have any taxis available." After some back and forth, I asked about my in-laws' wheelchair accessible vehicle, and his answer was, "I told you, we don't have any taxis available." I pleaded my case, explaining we had gone to great pains to arrange transportation for them, and now they were stuck at home, with a flight only 2 1/2 hours away. He had no answer, other than, "We don't have any taxis available in Tucson." After calling numerous other companies we finally got a 9:30 pickup for the in-laws and a ride from a nice neighbor for us. And after some sweet talking with American Airlines agents (who were great, BTW), we were able to board the plane with literally one minute to spare. This frantic morning was all because TotalRide didn't honor our reservations, didn't offer any options (except to say, "Just call someone else"), and didn't even bother to contact me to say they weren't coming. Had I not called, we would just have been left standing on the curb. This is the worst taxi experience I've ever had. I cannot recommend strongly enough that you never use this company. read more

The caliber for cabs in Tucson is just lower than in more affluent areas. Most of the cabs are smelly and/or have a beat up interior. When ordering your cab, mention that you will be paying by credit. Shady drivers are not allowed to accept credit cards and therefore do not have the machines for them. $2.00 a mile with no extra charge for traffic. I have had many experiences with discount cab, some much worse than others but usually they get the job done. Their drivers are usually courteous but the other night I got an appalling text message from the driver calling me an "ASSWIPE". The driver was clearly at the wrong location, which could have been a mistake on either the drivers part or the person who told him where we are. I missed his call while waiting outside, due to my phone being on silent, but when I called back four minutes later he did not answer. That's when I got the text message. The drivers poorly represent the company by calling their customers names. I will never call this cab company again. I gave my 50 dollar cab ride and 20 dollar tip to another company who promptly came to my aid and drove me safely home. read more

Avoid depending on discount cab for your transportation. I WAS a long time customer and they have repeatedly demonstrated to me over the past 3 months that they have become very unreliable. They do not arrive in a timely manner when you need them to be there and you will be given very unrealistic estimates about your wait times. This company appears to have gone down the tubes in just the past few months. The wait times never used to be an issue but they now are severely understaffed which translates to terrible wait times for the loyal paying customer, who is not dealt with honestly about how long they will have to wait. I have spent hundreds, maybe over a thousand with this company over the last several years and I have reached my limit of tolerating disappointments and incompetence. Last month they kept me WAITING FOR OVER AN HOUR at a grocery store- my frozen goods melted and had to be thrown out. I was lied to from the start, told they weren't busy and it would be a short wait. When I called back after 30 min of waiting I was told someone had taken my run and was on the way- would arrive in minutes. I sat there for another 30 minutes and watched my groceries melt away. No one EVER came for me- I was able to grab a ride from a cab dropping someone else off and that's how I got home-otherwise I would have been stranded for even longer. Waiting for well over an hour has become a common occurrence with discount cab in Tucson. It has happened to me four times in the last few months and that was about 25% of my calls to them. That tells me that when I call Discount Cab, I have a 1 in 4 chance of sitting there for an hour waiting to get home. There appear to be severe management issues that are making this company fall apart at the seams. After my nightmare grocery experience, a company representative named Nathan contacted me to apologize. They did send me a $20 gift card for fry's to replace the groceries and a $20 gift card for discount cab. I tried to use the discount cab card days later and it didn't function. I called Nathan...even though the card came with no instructions, apparently it required that I go to a website and activate it. So I did that and very carefully followed all instructions, and the website did not recognize the card as valid. They had sent me a blank card with no money on it. I emailed Nathan to let him know this and of course never heard back. Its just ironic...they sent me a card in apology for a screw up and the card itself was just another screw up. I haven't even tried to use the fry's card yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work either. I am writing this review after waiting 45 min for a cab to arrive today. I called to cancel the cab because it was now past the cut off time of where I needed to be. It is clear that discount cab continues to have severe under staffing issues which translate into nightmare wait times for the customer when they are busy. Maybe no one wants to work for them. I just know the drivers are competent and polite and the management of this company appears to be incompetent. After I canceled my order I asked to speak to a supervisor. I was asked why. I told them because I wanted to let them know why they are losing my business. They refused to come to the phone and speak to me...they were too "busy". I told them fine, just look on yelp for what I was going to say. I've had it with discount cab. Why use a taxi service when you cannot count on them to arrive in a timely manner? I always use Discount Cab. I used them in Phoenix, and I just used them here in Tucson and I had a PERFECT experience with them! First let me say this...download the App. It's user friendly and you get to watch your cab make its way to you! I was mesmerized! It was really nifty! Then again, I'm easily amused. I was at the Greyhound Bus Station and it took only 5 minutes for my driver to pick me up. And he was just the sweetest guy. All smiles. Very polite. And very grateful when I tipped him. And he played some good tune-age on the radio for my short trip. I almost didn't call Discount Cab due to all the negative reviews here, which I see as a bit unfair as the owner/manager seems to have truly attempted to make things right. I'll use them again!! This company completely screwed me. I booked a reservation the night before I needed to leave online, then confirmed in the morning several hours before my flight over the phone. Next I called them 10 minutes before my cab was supposed to show up- just to confirm my cab was absolutely on the way. After 10 minutes of hold music , they told me they were running behind, but my cab driver was definitely on route right now, and that he should be there in 10 minutes. Okay, 10 minutes late, I can handle that. 20 minutes later I start to get worried, call, and sit through another 10 minutes of hold music. I needed a cab a half hour ago. Lady on the phone says the earlier dispatcher lied. No one is on their way, and they have no cab drivers in the area. No cabbies felt like picking up my fare, apparently. I called around in panic to different companies, and arrived at the airport just in time to miss my flight. $40 there, $40 back. $40 the next morning, and a whole lot more to change my ticket. This isn't the first time I've had issues with this company. In a previous reservation, a cab driver simply left because he didn't know the gate code, despite the fact that I gave it to the dispatcher. I recommend Orange Cab instead. They've come to my rescue when Discount Cab decided they just didn't feel like picking me up. Their cars aren't fancy Prius's, but at least they honor their own reservations. I feel Discount owes me for my changed airline ticket, and all the additional cabs it took to get to the airport and come back the next day. read more

If allowed I'd give them Zero or -0 stars!! - My girlfriend was waiting at a tow yard when this "company" was called about 8pm and a 15-20min seemed reasonable. 30 min later she called and they were still on their way, about 10-15mins away. Another 30 min later, they said the driver showed up but no one was there so he left. So why wouldn't the driver call, honk or get off the vehicle? It's 30 degrees outside, no one is going to keep their door open in that weather while waiting on a cab! They said they will send a cab back and it will be there in 5 min. 15 min later they were now 20 minutes away!! This "company" is run by people that obviously don't want to make money. Can't count on them! I put in a reservation for a cab the night before my trip to the airport at 430 AM. I called at 4 AM to confirm and the cab didn't show up until 450. On top of all this, I called the cab company and was very polite when I complained and they hung up on me. If you need to be somewhere on time, this isn't the company for you. read more

When I was in high school and college my friends and I would frequently visit the Mexican border towns across from Texas. It would take us a while to get there but riding in a cab was more exciting than most of the roller coasters that one could find at Six Flags in Dallas for AstroWorld in Houston. They relatively obeyed some laws, but they all had in common that they like to turn Corners as fast as possible and drive as fast as possible on short straight and narrow roads. Your adrenaline would be rushing, you would be scrambling to look for a seatbelt that didn't exist, and you are quite certain that today might be the last day that you're on Earth. Although the signs inside the window of this cab companies state that they are extremely courteous and Obey all the laws, I have not felt the rush of adrenaline that experience in this cab since those days visiting La Frontera in Mexico. read more

DO NOT use this service. I called for a cab on the 4th of July and was told the wait would be 15 - 30 minutes, and to sit and wait on the curb (in a shady neighborhood mind you). After a half hour, I called back to check the status of my cab, only to be informed by dispatcher that I had only called 2-3 minutes earlier for a cab, which was NOT the case. The dispatcher then informed me that it would be an hour from the time I placed my call, so I hung up and waited that extra half hour. After waiting just over an hour total, I called back a THIRD time, to find out that a driver had not even been ASSIGNED to my pickup. Given this was a holiday, and the waits were probably longer than usual, not one out of 3 dispatchers I spoke to felt the need to tell me that I would have to wait up to 2 hours for a cab. When I asked to speak to a manager, the dispatcher informed me that there was no higher superior, which was so obviously untrue. At this point, I was lucky enough to find a ride from a friend, but was EXTREMELY disappointed in the service I received from Discount Cab. I STRONGLY recommend that you use any cab service OTHER than them!!! read more

I find it hard to believe I'm the only person giving this company 5 stars. I have never EVER had a problem with them worth thinking twice about. I use them to get home from the grocery store once a week, to any doctors' visits I might have, and pretty much everywhere. One single solitary time I've waited more than 10 minutes for a cab, and it was during the bus strike last year when all the cab companies were swamped. I wouldn't even call that a problem--I used to use another cab company and routinely had 1 hour plus waits for cabs even after I had called ahead for a timed pickup. I dropped my phone getting out of one a couple of months ago, the guy came right back to my house and dropped it off after his next fare (he heard it ringing and the new fare handed it to him). The drivers are always either friendly or blessedly silent, I'm able to text them my address and have them come pick me up, they take credit cards in almost every cab (very few drivers don't, and if they do, their new-ish policy is to stop the meter and take you to an atm where you can get cash to pay them and then bring you back to where you wanted to go) and they're really good about call ahead fares, unlike other companies. I've used all the other cab companies in town while working at the airport and for a transportation company, this one is the first one to really impress me. read more

Never Showed Up! Missed my Flight! I had an emailed confirmation for a 5am pickup but they never Showed up, didn't call or explain. I called when they were 5 minutes late and was informed that there was no one on the way! No explanation, no apologies. 20 minutes later I received a call that they were heading my way. I had already called a reputable cab company but missed my shuttle to Phoenix (a 10 minute drive) and missed my flight to the East Coast.. Their office is also 10 minutes from my house. Never, in my wildest dreams, will I ever use these people again! It is inconceivable that a company can be so mismanaged that they will send a written confirmation and then just forget about you. I assume when there folks go bust, as they deserve, there will be a bunch of green Prius' for sale in Tucson. Booking the cab was a little confusing. The guy who took my reservation never asked for my name. And it sounded like I interrupted his day when i called, which made me a little uncomfortable. The cab arrived on time. The driver did not get out and open the door or offer to help with my bag. After we got on our way, the driver was chatty and nice enough. He made me laugh. The ride was enjoyable and the price wasn't higher than I anticipated. When I returned to Tucson and went out to get a cab home, A Discount Cab driver who was second in line shouted at me that it was about time and tried to grab my bag. I went with the company who was first in line and told Discount to wait their turn. Discount is getting three stars for using Hybrid vehicles, the first driver keeping me entertained, and the price. Their reservation process needs some work and some service training for some of the drivers. read more

I live in Phoenix and visit Tucson occasionally. I never ran into any issues with Discount Cab in Phoenix, but my experience with this company at Tucson is extremely horrible. My wife and I arranged a cab with a given street address. 15 minutes later, no cab showed up so we called again to check on the status. The representative said it's usually about 10-20 minutes or wait, and our cab will be arrived within 4 minutes. So we kept waiting outside patiently (we do this so driver could see us immediately). Ten more minutes passed by, the cab was still not there. We called again and was told that the cab was at the given address but the driver did not see us. We double confirmed our address and phone number, so the address and phone number we provided did match what Discount Cab took down. I understand finding address can be difficult sometimes, but why didn't the driver try to call us? That wasn't explained, but the representative said if we wanted to make another arrangement then we would have to wait for 45 minutes. I used Discount Cab many times in Phoenix, if somehow the driver is lost or can't see us at the designated location, we usually get a phone call and NEVER missed each other, not even once. I don't understand why Tucson can't operate the same way but keep making up excuses and delaying its service. Very disappointed. read more

Was told that my request was still in the queue, and a driver was not assigned yet. When I complained that I had been told 5-25 minutes, and it was now over 30 minutes, they said, "Oh no, that's wrong, its at least 30-60 minutes for that area." Okay, so when will my driver arrive? In 30-60 minutes. But it's already been 30 minutes, I'll miss my flight! Sorry. Never EVER will use them again. Today it was a 4 am pickup to get to the airport. A lot of people do not realize that when you call Discount Cab, YOU are NOT "their" customer. You are the DRIVER's Customer. I do not care for that company either, however, the DRIVER is their customer. This is because Discount Cab leases their cars to people who want to contract with them. This means that the driver pays that company a certain amount of money. He then uses their dispatch system to get calls (he doesn't have to). i.e You are not the real customer. I'm honestly surprised at how many negative reviews this place has! I've used Discount Cab multiple times in both the Phoenix and Tucson areas and I've never had any problems. In fact, I refuse to use any other company whenever I do need a cab. The drivers have always been very friendly and courteous, and I've never had any problems with them speeding or anything like that. The price is reasonable, and they've always been on time for me. I had horrible service from Discount Cab. I booked two days ahead online for a 6:45 am pickup. At 6:50 I called to confirm the time of pickup and used the automated feature to get an ETA. I was on hold for over 7 minutes and finally hung up and called back to talk to a person. I was on hold for 5 minutes and never got thru to anyone. I hung up to call another company. Someone from Discount did finally call me at 7:15 and said he could be there in 20 minutes. I missed my trip and had to scramble to make a new travel plan at considerable extra cost and lots of aggregation. I will not use Discount Cab again. ____________________________________________ Updated review next day: I responded to the request from Tom R. to contact him so that they could look into it. I have included the email I sent to Tom and the response I received back. As you can see, it is less than satisfactory and it is not clear to me that "Tom R" even exists. Taxi had puke all over the back seat, driver didn't clean up his cab before pickup and didn't notify us that there was puke in his back seat, and so my friend sat in the puke! Instead of caring that my friend sat in the puke and comp'ng our ride, the driver charged us, despite the puke filled ride. read more

I used to use discount cav with no real issues besides the obvious occasional "drive the wrong way and over charge you" bit. Whatever, they always came and got me. Tonight, I asked for a cab at the Playground, a bar downtown. I told them I did not know the cross streets, but I told them the name of the bar and that I was on Congress St. The dispatcher told me, in a very rude voice, to call back when I knew where I was. I called another cab company, and told them I was at the playground. In about 3 seconds, they confirmed the address by looking it up, and dispatched a cab.
