We were stuck in Stafford on Friday and our SUV needed caliper, breaks, rotors. It was first come frist serve. We were the frist ones there. They appraised our car. Found the problem. They started calling around for the parts. When they found the parts they were not happy with the price, so they called around and got better a better price. They did the work when it was done we were pleased with the work. They were friendly and funny. They had coffee, tea and sodas for the customers. All in all they were excellent. read more

Took my car for inspection and was told I failed because I had an exhaust leak and my left rear inboard pad close. I told them I just had my rotors and pads both rear and front pads installed 60 days prior to getting inspected. Also, just had my Cadillac converters installed 60 days prior also. I know these are crooks. Do not take your car to get inspected at this shop if you don't want to be ripped off!!!!!! read more

On Wednesday afternoon I spoke with the owner Thomas Cash after a referral from a mutual friend. I told him the check engine light was on and after having it scanned by a neighbor it has an O2 sensor issue. He told me to bring it in and since i had bought factory Delco parts he would install what was needed. I promptly arrived at 7:45 am the next morning. After waiting all day Thursday for a call it never came. I called at 5:30pm and was told they hadn't had a chance to diagnose it. I asked if it could be put inside for the night due to sensitive items left in it and was told it would be. My daughter passed by at 6:30 and called me to say it was out where I left it. I went and got it and brought it home for the night. I took it back Saturday morning and parked it where it had been. Still no call so I went to check on it at 2:45pm and guess what ,still there. I went in and was asked what I needed to pick up and I said my keys. I also advised I had got the truck on Friday and took it home and returned it this morning. No excuse no explanation. Not sure if this is there normal no communication policy but I don't recommend them to service a vehicle with this type of buisness attitude. read more

A few months ago my wife picked up our car at American Automotive after we had new tires installed. She didnt realize that they charged her a $25 dollar fee for using a credit card. I called back and asked if that charge is also applied for a debit or check becuase I can come back with a check. They said no but since it ran through it couldn't be refunded. (thats not true anyway). I put it on us for not being more careful. Yesterday my wife picked up another car with new tires and she told the women ringing her up that this was a debit card. It rang up with a $10 dollar charge fee. The women said its only $10 and they cant take a check since it already rang up. My wife came home upset. I called my bank and they are disputing the charge since rang up as a debit in my account. I talked to an officer about fraud and they basically say once the card is swiped that's a contract. He recommended big box stores because these things happen more with smaller operations. Sometimes its not intentional they just dont know how to add or remove the charge. I get it its only $10 but they lied to us on 2 occasions or they just dont understand things and said it could not be rung up again. Im guessing many other have been duped as well. They installed the wrong rotors on my car and wouldn't fix it. Took me six months to figure out what they did. Took my 2015 Toyota Venza in for a brake job on both axles. I often do my own brakes, but sometimes will have it done. Paid American Automotive Tire Pros more than $1k for the pads and rotors replacement, front and rear. From the beginning the front brakes made a grinding noise at the end of each stop. Took the car back to American. They found nothing wrong with the repair. Went back a week later and had the mechanic sit in the back seat for a test drive. He claimed it was just normal pad break-in. One month later took the car to the Toyota dealer. They said the problem was American Automotive Tire Pros had installed cheap parts and recommended using OEM. Six months later I decide to pull the wheels off in my garage. American had installed the wrong rotor. Sheehy Toyota of Stafford charged me $40 to inspect the brakes and never took the wheels off the car. I've been taking my family's five cars to American for five years, mainly for light work like tires, inspections. First time I had them do something substantive - and I got burned. $1,000 for unacceptable workmanship and six months of daily driving with my family on dangerous brakes. I trusted these folks! I didn't go back to confront them, but I kept the bad rotors and sat down to write my review. II took the L on this one, but never again with this outfit. These lovely people really helped me out when i was in a jam! I was on a long, never ending road trip from southern florida to new york when I got a flat tire with a huge nail sticking in it in Virginia. I admit I don't even know how to change a flat and I wouldn't have even been able to drive another 6 hours with the spare anyways! I went to 3 other places in the area first that were too busy for the day and altho friendly, could not help. American automotive tire pros to the rescue! They were extremely busy too, but looked at the tire on my silver nissan frontier, figured out they could repair it instead of me having to buy a whole new tire and then assured me they'd find a way to get it done. I was beyond grateful when they finished up in about maybe 45 minutes or less! It wasn't expensive at all and I made it back on the road and got home to New York safely in time to see my mom before she went to bed! Haha :) They saved me a whole lot of headache and $$ because I didn't have to get a hotel and wait around a day for it to be fixed which would have really been a bummer! Disappointed! My 71 yr old mother in law went in for an annual inspection and it failed because of a lack of battery strap and a broken fog light. She brought home a quote for $478.89 out the door to fix both issues. Their charge for the fog light assembly was $307.78 (part only!). That seem high so I googled the fog light assembly and found and ordered it for $23.91 + shipping! My husband found a YouTube video and changed it for her. How could they possibly try to charge her $307.78 for a part that is on carparts.com for $23.91. Sad! P.s. the battery strap wasnt missing, it fell down to the side of the battery and just needed to be pulled back up. Their charge for that was $45.37 parts and labor. Cost us $0! read more

On our way down to Florida from New York, we got a flat on I-95 in Virginia. We got off the highway and stopped and multiple places who told us we would need to leave our car until the end of the day. Angie at American Automotive Tire Pros said they had five people in front of us but would take us as soon as it was our turn. We figured we would take our chances and hope it wouldn't be until the end of the day because it was around 11am. By 2pm we were on the road again. Our tire was no good but they gave us a new one for a good price. They did not try to sell us anything extra which was a big plus. They were super dog friendly as we had our pup with us and they let her sit inside with us while we waited. Angie and Thomas were great and highly recommend them to anyone who gets a flat for a quick fix! Wish there was more places like this along I-95, we got lucky. read more

Moving around a lot, every 2-3 years, I found it was always difficult to find a repair facility that I could trust with my vehicles. I first used American Auto for inspection and emissions test, but they quickly earned my trust for services and unscheduled maintenance. They are professional, efficient, and communicate well with the customer. For instance, I requested to see old part the mechanic replaced and service desk crew happily obliged and explained why it needed replacement. American Auto is the first place I will take both my cars for any type of service or repair! Update; I took one of my vehicles back in July 2015 to get A/C checked because of intermittent cooling. After checking system, and researching technical bulletin, system was overpressured with ~0.6 lbs of Freon. Once system was returned to OEM specifications, the A/C worked fine. Another job well done by American Auto. read more

Awesome staff. I came in for vehicle inspections late afternoon, the representative told me they were extremely busy that day but if I put the keys in the drop box that night they'd have the inspection done first thing in the morning as it's first come first serve. Boy was she right! I took my truck in the night before and they open at 8 am, I got a call by about 8:30 am saying my truck was ready for pick up. I went to get that vehicle and asked if there was time for my Honda to get an inspection, they were super helpful. I got home and within 30 Minutes they called my house to let me know my car was ready for pick up. Really sweet business owners! I'll continue to come here for these little jobs! read more

Husband took our car to fix a flat tire. Employee came back to ask if we knew we had 1 broken lug nut very rudely. Of course we didn't know which is why we brought it in to figure out why the tire was flat. Got there around 2pm and told my husband he was going to have to be charged for labor because he won't let him leave with a broken lug nut. Fine. Three hours later car was finally down and got charged $150 to put on ONE lug nut and stud. Husband got home and still flat tire. They charged $150 for one lug nut, one stud and three hours of waiting and still a flat tire, which is what we originally went in there for. Don't go to this place, rip off!!! read more

Went there for a state inspection,had several cars ahead of me. walked around outside and got a cup of coffee. Came back and saw my truck up on the lift,I was wondering to myself why was it on the lift with the hood up for a state inspection.walked in the shop and was told it was ready when I went to pay I was surprised to learn I had gotten an oil change instead of a state inspection,When I said I did not come here for a oil change I was rudely told that is what you said. I know exactly what I said and it was not a oil change because I always get that done elsewhere. This was the first time I had a problem there in the past they were much more friendly .. My point is I feel they should have done the inspection for free since that is why I went there. I thought the customer is always right. read more

I needed a quick repair for my tire with a puncture in it. I called twice, once at 11am and once at 3pm to confirm if there was a long wait. They said to go ahead and swing by if I was close enough so I did. When inside they have a tire showing where they can and can't repair (due to the complexity of the repair) and unfortunately mine was in the no-repair zone. They had the tech (I don't remember his name, however, he was very nice) come out and look and he said he would do it. I haven't had any issues with it and he was EXTREMELY timely. It took him around 20 minutes to complete the repair. It only cost $30 and he aired up all of my tires and rebalanced them for free as well! The entire time everyone was very nice and professional and I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. I would highly recommend them for tire repairs. (I can't speak on behalf of other repairs). read more

Went in to have a state inspection done as well as the battery, drive belt and alignment checked. As expected from a shop trying to make money, they returned a bill for the state inspection as well as an invoice of "recommended work" for $2,400.00 on items I did not ask them to inspect. IN ADDITION, upon driving out of their lot I immediately noticed a 'thudding' sound as I drove off. I returned to the shop and noticed I now had a large nail in my tire which was not there upon arriving. Since it had punctured through the tire and I have an AWD vehicle, I'll now be needing to replace all 4 tires on my car, which will be hundreds of dollars - all for going to an amateur shop. This place is a joke and the owners could not care less that their lot had given me a flat. Do NOT go to this shop - you'll end up with more problems on the way out than when you arrived. read more

First off, I'd like to say Tony and the guys at American Automotive definitely helped us out in a crappy situation. My husband and I originally brought my 2014 Shelby GT500 to Merchants to get new snow tires put on. For some reason, Merchants could not get the last tire to bead and sent us to Tires Plus (off route 1). Tires Plus couldn't get it on either! So on our way back to Merchants, we decided to try our luck at American Automotive. It took a little work, but the guys were able to get the tire to bead. Not only that, but Tony was off the clock (store was closed) and didn't even charge us for his help (My husband went back today and made sure they were compensated for their work). Overall, we underestimated this place but they will definitely have our business in the future! read more

Over a fifteen year period I have occasionally done business here. I do not recommend it unless absolutely necessary. Having gone overseas a number of times in that period I always seem to forget my previous experiences. Going in for simple tasks always turns into a large estimate. Most recently I want in for a state emissions inspection and it failed due to a faulty gas cap. In order to reset the system it must be reset. After I purchased the cap and returned for inspection they refused to reset the system and told me to go to Auto Zone. I went there and they said they do not do that service. All of this appeared to be a fishing expedition for more expensive work. They are in a good location so they do not value customers with simple services needed. Go elsewhere there are plenty of good ethical businesses in the area. read more
