Later this year when she's 10 years old, assuming she continues to work hard, she will earn her junior black belt. Needless to say, we've had lots of experience with this program. What makes it so great? The people!!! We drive out of our way for this particular program. They know kids and how to relate with kids. I'm continually impressed in the character education and development. You can't put a price on these life lessons. We originally enrolled our daughter at a young age to assist her in developing her coordination and confidence. She's learning that she can do anything. Last fall she was a third grade female, jr. Pee Wee football player. It never occurred to her that this isn't mainstream. In the same breath, she rocks a delicate yoga pose. While he didn't have any bullying issues, the life skills and fundamentals that are also taught with the class have been great! They also incorporate fun activities that keep the young ones engaged. So much so it lead me to join (with some encouragement from my son) I have no prior martial arts background and I'm not getting any younger. However with how the classes are structured I quickly found that to became a moot point. 3 months in and we are both enjoying our classes and even a little competitive fun at home. Just try it.

After careful consideration, we decided that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu would be the best thing for him, and the choices in the valley are somewhat limited that way. Most everything is Taekwondo... Any who, we checked out Flashback after speaking to one of the owners, Jina. We gave it a week's trial, and really love the fun way coach Jesse and Jina (husband & wife) teach the classes. They are playful and very nice, but firm and expect respect from the kids. It was perfect for my son. There is plenty of 1-1 training too, and great examples, in addition to daily sparing where the kids get to put what they learned to the test. Though we were not able to continue to go due to personal reasons, which was quite unfortunate, I would go back in a heartbeat if possible. My wife and son loved it otherwise. If you have a child (or yourself as an adult) wants to learn self-defense and a martial art's system that will be superior to Taekwondo and other forms of karate, then check this place out!
