This is a cute diner. Nestled in a strip mall, the staff is very friendly, the food is hot and tasty. Kathy was our server and she was great. Our food was just as we ordered, the home fries were moist and crispy, albeit a little under seasoned. I go here at least twice a week for lunch. Turkey Rueben is my go to sandwich and the fries are the best! Sloppy joes on mondays are great and French dip was really good as well. If you haven't tried this place, you are missing out! Reasonably priced as well. read more

I'm giving this cafe 2 stars because the food was good. However I was shaking when I left this café due to the ignorant and some super rude patrons that we're not having a personal conversation at the table but were talking loudly for the whole restaurant to hear about their political views. Just so happens they were speaking rudely about the democratic party and they never stopped. So by the time we were done with our food I had to say something to them and of course they were rude back so we will never never go to this café again. I love this diner as it has one of my all time favorite breakfasts/ South of the border omelette. It's 3 eggs omelette cooked perfect (not overcooked!!) With taco meat, cheeses and covered in chili. It may not sound like something you want but it is damn good! With hashbrowns (of course with onions mixed in!) and your choice of bread; I always get a well toasted English muffin it is a very bold and tasty meal. It's standard diner fare and service is good. Prices are exactly what you can expect 5-10 bucks for most items and they are quick with the orders. All in all a very decent place! read more

Needed to kill time so decided to get breakfast with my boyfriend and it was close by. Immediately walking in, not a great vibe but decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. The ladies bathroom, for starters, white powder all over the floor (could've guessed what that was lol), the soap dispenser was on its last screw, place was honestly kind of a dump. I found a thick dark hair in my pancakes, then my boyfriend found one in his eggs as well. We were immediately disgusted and were nice enough to even pay. Waitress didn't even apologize. Had breakfast at American Cafe on March 16th. My wife and I loved this place. My omelette was done perfect and the side of sausage was also very good. Service was very good and if I am in Port Saint Lucie in the future I will have breakfast at the American Cafe. My wife loved her meal and commented on how good it was. A hidden gem on US 1 South. We know we can always go here and get a great meal, with great service at a reasonable price, and plentiful portions. They are one of our two "go to " places. The breakfast menu and selections are varied and should accommodate all. We know it is a place we can be comfortable and enjoy our meal. Well worth the short trip from our home. read more

I have had breakfast here in the past , today I had two eggs ordered over medium but were over easy instead. I sat at the counter , the service was friendly and immediate. I was disappointed in the service fee added in at the end and was a surprise to me , I may have missed it in the previous visits. The Cafe management made a conscious decision to charge this fee in which I ma not in favor of. We work on the strip and wanted to go have breakfast for lunch. However, atmosphere was alittle Shakey when walked in. However, ordering our Western Omelettes, we were not advised THERE WOULD BE NO CHEESE added, not even ASKED from waiter. Who eats a Omelette without cheese????? If you do, cool. But not I. Another thing, after we told the waiter, they insisted us give back our plates to add cheese in and flip but by that time we had already cut into the omelette, learnt experience is you never give your plate back and as a courtesy, they should fix any way. Sour cream was very sour, which means it's expired/bad. After telling the waitor and still nothing. The fact that no one rectified the situation is even more pitiful!!! This is my first time to this place snd it was a great experience. The atmosphere is awesome with a country feel. The service was on point and so friendly. The food was super. American and Mexican. I ate the breakfast tacos and added chorizo. I really enjoy spicy foods and the chorizo was nice and spicy. To make it better I added the salsa which is also spicy yum yum. The breakfast there is very good and reasonably priced. The decor is Americana and cute. Lunch, however, was not so great. The taco salad tasted like they used an oriental spice instead of Mexican. The grilled cheese sandwich was just ok and made on normal sandwich bread instead of something bigger or better. And apparently the cook makes one meal at a time because it took almost 30 minutes to get our meals. I'll return for breakfast but will eat lunch elsewhere. They're open 7 to 2 every day. read more
