Coolers abound with different meats (goat, stockfish, free-range chicken, beef skin) and greens (feverleaves from Liberia [the owner's homeland] and Sierra Leone, bittergreens from Cameroon) as well as hot peppers, Kenkey (Ghanaian fermented corn dough), Safu (Congolese plums) just to name a few. Not to be outdone, the shelves are packed with numerous types of corn, beans, and rice, plus juices from Pakistan and ginger biscuits originally brought to West Africa from the United Kingdom. Speaking of the latter, more snacks such as plantain chips, sesame candy, and Chin-Chin (Nigerian sweetened/spiced dough bites) can be found by the register. And they even sometimes have grab-and-go food, like a combination tray of Waakye (millet-leaf rice) from Ghana with meat, spaghetti, and a hardboiled egg. All of this has ensured that my first two trips to Global Village will not be my last.

I felt like I was in a speciality food shop in NYC, but was in the heart of Cherry Creek. You can stop in Whole Foods for the staples and perishables for your dinner party or holiday celebration, then go to Ambrosian Pantry for the items that will put your entertaining over the top. This is set up very much like a scaled down Vayarta's in Southern California. Northern Californians will think it's on par with one of the many Mexican supermarkets that come and go every year with mixed levels of success throughout the northern part of the state. The reason I think it's a step in the right direction is because the quality and selection of the produce is significantly better than what has been around in Colorado in the past. The bread is well made, delicious, and comes in an impressive variety. The meats are great quality, with authentic marinades, at a competitive price point. A wide selection of products is offered with some products that were once impossible to find in Colorado (like Coronado Cajeta quemada). The one exception I noticed was the fresh produce. The quality and freshness left much to be desired on many, but not all, produce. I get its Colorado so some of the exotics have a long way to travel, but more care needs to be placed in locating and discarding spoiled produce. Some looked like it had gone through a ringer before making it on the shelf. Other than that, the place is clean and phenomenally organized. The service was friendly and attentive ( the ladies in the bakery are the absolute best). This has become my spot for Latin American groceries. There is no need for me to go elsewhere.

The item selection sets this store apart from the competing supermarkets and the pricing was very competitive. Store layout was innovative and lent itself to the shoppers' convenience...the circular service meat and deli counter was a novel attraction that was a joy to walk and see the selection. Even for this Anglo, the bilingual employees were very attentive and generous on sampling! Displays were well maintained and offered the right item at the right price- the winning combination! Clean and organized. They had a TON of Filipino Goods!!! Delicious bakery goods from Goldilocks and Red Ribbon. They had my family's favorites, like, tito al's chicharrones, butong pawkwan, tons of ube treats, the line of mama sita's seasonings. Filipino foods, entrees and snacks in the freezer section as well. All of the ingredients needed to make, pancit, adobo (minus the meat), sinigang, fried rice and more. The store is PACKED with many goodies to choose from. We arrived close to closing time and the owners were still so welcoming. I wish I lived closer for the selection and service!
