This is, hands down, one of the better stores I have ever been in from a spirit point of view. Whiskey is my jam, but the allocations that were out across the board were stunning tbh. I was in town for a wedding and randomly decided to drop in. Every employee was wonderful - experienced and friendly. I had a great whiskey convo with a gentleman with an epic mustache and each employee was just as friendly and knowledgable as the last. Having been collecting for years now, I try to gravitate towards single barrel selections - a great way to get a twist on a known taste/profile. I was guided towards pick, after pick, after pick. I ended up walking away with 4 store picks - and they are all delicious (2 of which are arguably the best of that brand I've ever had). Sufficient to say I will be back, I will most likely prioritize a stop next time I'm in Denver (I'm based in Chicago). I cannot recommend this place enough in terms of product and overall experience in the store. I've had my fair share of barrel picks and given the quality and consistency of the ones I've had from there, I can tell their pick team/process is absolutely top tier. The left side was mostly wines and liquors, but then the right side of the location is lined with fridges filled with many beers I had never heard of in terms of brands but also in terms of styles (sour red rye? Sour trippel? Yes, please). Obviously my friend and I had a hard time picking only two styles to try, but if I hadn't been on such a sour kick, we could have made our own pack with the wide variety of single beers they have available further down the row. To top it off, we went on a Friday evening and they were having a tasting event. Nothing huge, but a man was standing in the back offering tastes of Good River/Renegade brews (because I guess Renegade was just bought by Good River). He had 4 beers to try (from Good River: a cherry porter, a black lager, and a maple porter; from Renegade: a peanut butter imperial stout). All were great--for some reason I really loved the cherry porter. The man giving the samples said this place either has tasting every Friday or every other Friday of different local Denver items (beers, liquors, etc). Definitely a nice place and people are very friendly. Worth checking out if you're in the area and need to load up with some good beverages.

The staff was super friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. The men who helped me were both trained somms, and were so eager to help me find what I was looking for. Beyond the wine, they have an amazing liquor section with some of the most unique liquors -- many that I had only seen behind a bar before. They also had a decent selection of beers in the back! My favorite thing about this place is the TWO 10 and under racks (sizing pictured). So yeah, lots of solid options without compromising on quality and uniqueness. He was clearly super knowledgeable about tequila and was really happy to discuss chat about their huge selection of hand picked labels. There was no condescension or arrogance as he educated me about the different labels. He ended up steering me towards a lower priced, but still quality label, since I was mostly using it for mixing. They also carry beers, wines, and other liquors, so I will be back to check out those selections as well. What a great find!

And we all know drinking cheap beer is a step (perhaps a small one, but a step nonetheless) above drinking water while playing kickball. We pulled in and decided to attempt your drive-thru. We actually had to drive through the parking lot, back into the street and then into the drive-thru line. (Kym B is not lying - this is not a place made for multiple cars to drive through.) But, as we drove away, 12 beers heavier and 8 dollars lighter I felt a tremendous sense of satisfaction. The inside seems like it might be sketchy based on the outside appearance. However, the man working there was super nice, lamenting the fact that he couldn't have a TV to keep himself occupied during the slower parts of the day and making general conversation with us while someone else got the cold ones for us. Strange fact - they didn't have the 12-pack of beers. They gave us 2 sixers instead. And it's true that they won't let you pay with credit cards in the drive-thru line (unless you have kids).

In fact, we might need it more... *smirk* But I digress. The Great American Beer Store has TWO drive-up windows, but today only the one closest to the street was open. Hence, the precarious position in which I found myself. You can only sit two-deep in that line for the first window without hanging over the curb and into traffic. And I thought to myself, "this is totally going in my review. One star, DOCKED!" But eventually I got up to the window and was reminded why I patronize this place so frequently. A little sign to my left read: WINDOW IS CASH ONLY, CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED INSIDE. Oh no! The cashier lady smiled at me though, and said, "don't worry... we make exceptions for people with sleeping babies." Now THAT's what I'm talkin' about! Because, after all, I was indeed-y picking up six bottles of Boone's Farm Apple Wine Product. Don't ask. Prices are cheap here, and it's definitely THE place to go if you need a keg for a party. It's also THE place to go for Boone's Farm. Shocking, but can you believe not every liquor store carries it? Criminal, I say! Extra bonus points for the guy with no teeth who always has treats for car-riding doggies. It's that little extra touch that means oh-so very much.
