I left a somewhat harsh review a while back and it won't let me delete it so I'm just going to do another one. I was wrong. I know find myself in a place where I wrench on bikes for a living (a poor one), and I know understand exactly what they had to go through on my bike and why it took so long. At the time of the review I didn't understand that and just thought they were dickin me around. Tim's a solid dude and as I said before, they know what they're doing, and you won't find anyone to do better work. Being as they are about the only ones left that wrench on old bikes, yes, you may wait a little longer for your bike, but it will be worth it in the end. 4 years after I took my bike there, and my old Ironhead is still running flawlessly (as far as the lower end and some top end ) on the stuff they did. So 4 years later, I've come full circle. I guess it may benefit to know what your talking about before blasting someone. Lesson learned. His pricing is fair and he's got stories that'll help you in your riding journey. The turn around time is quick from when you drop your bike off and from when you pick it up. I can't fully rate them yet because I still don't have my engine back yet, but I'll throw out my impressions so far... Tim is a really cool guy, easy to talk to and is knowledgeable about bikes. However, on the business side I'm starting to question his word. I took my engine in, after talking on the phone with him. The motor was 90% built already, but needed to be finished with a few parts added. I was told maybe 4-6 hours worth of work.. obviously an estimate.. you never know till your in there. But in the scope of things, one of the easier, bang out in a couple hours kinda deal. I told him I really need this done right away, but I get that he's busy, so please just knock it out. He said two weeks TOPS. I called after two weeks, he said be patient. Then I called a week later, no answer. I've since left multiple messages, left messages with guys who work there, left more messages, and they will not return my calls at all. It has now been a month, and I cannot get anyone to even answer the phone or call me back. I thought two weeks was insane, but busy schedules I understand. But a month, for less than a days work, under any workload, says to me, that I am not as important because I'm not rebuilding a 20k chopper. So my final word is this. Because there are few builders out there and they know this, it's similar to an experience with a drug dealer.. you pretty much have to go to them, so they can treat you however, and you have no alternative. This sucks. I was planning on going back to this shop all the time to build multiple bikes...as of now, I just want my engine done and move on. Again, very nice guys, but they seem to know that you have little choices and take full advantage of it, which is a shame. This is where small business owners fail to ever move to the next level. Great product, shit customer service. If you guys happen to read this, call your customers back! Don't you want repeat customers? Isn't that kind of the point? I've never written a review before...but thought this was worthy. I'll post again when I get it back. Hopefully with glowing reviews. Just know, you go here, prepare to wait at least double what your told. Update: Well, I decided to give them another shot, because I like Tim. If you've been in there you know he is a really cool guy...BUT.. in my opinion, they are horrible at business. I took in my cylinders this time, because the motor I had built there blew up. So I bought new cylinders and pistons (after being told it was my fault), and thought, what the hell, maybe Tim will take care of me considering the last job went 4 times over schedule and triple the price quoted... Dropped off cylinders to be matched with pistons, was told one week , because as always he's super busy. It's an hour or two of work but I said ok. As of today I think it's been a month, maybe a few days less, maybe more...nothing. Called a week ago and he said "your next in line" which was bullshit. I've researched it thoroughly and most shops charge 40$-60- per cylinder and have em done in one day. I can imagine from past experience it will cost 4 times that and I'll have to get in a screaming match with him. Long story short... expect this if your not bringing in a 30k$ Harley. I'm a garage builder and this is been my experience the few times I took Tim my work. Stay away...unless you just wanna talk...tim is a cool guy, just won't take another bike or part there ever. read more

The men here are very rude. They are constantly badmouthing people very loudly in the presence of customers. They cone off parking spots in the shared lot outside of their store and leave for hours taking away parking for other businesses. They play music very loudly and leave it on for hours while they leave and nobody is in the store. read more

It is nice to find a parts shop that knows more then I do about the produce I'm thinking of buying. They Keep a large inventory of parts on hand, I ride custom motorcycles so finding parts can be hard for me, The owner is very knowledgeable and I rely on his knowledge to help me make decisions, he has not let me down ever and has saved me money to boot. read more

This is the only place I will go to get parts and work done on my HD Sportster. Tim has forgotten more about motorcycles than most mechanics will ever know. He is honest and straight forward in all his pricing and discussions. As a woman it is extraordinary to have a mechanic or shop treat you with respect. I loved that Tim spent the time to explain to me what he was doing, why he was doing it and was VERY transparent with what it would cost. There were no surprised and no talking down to me. His shop prices are reasonable and in line with the market. OH and once you get him talking he has the best stories. Bottom line....other reviewers are crazy. American Custom will probably have the part you are looking for if you have a vintage Harley. Dealer does not stock even service parts. I got my Speedo cable, clutch plate and coil for my 81 Sportster. I need a part i call and get the "got 'em" response. Come by and leave with advice how to do it right! Tim is a great guy and his crew is equally as good. Old school defiantly, but you have to understand how things work. If you act like a pompous poser ass hat your going to get treated as such (directed at the female reviewer below). I've had them work on my new bikes, my old bikes and they are always honest and trustworthy. If you can't appreciate the art that they create, then go back to a cager. I would recommend ACMP to anyone that's not an asshole and needs to get some solid advise on upgrades, repairs or general maintanence. read more

I heard Tim was a good guy to take my bike in for repair after a wreck, for a full tear down since I needed a new frame in 2011. I chose not to replace certain items allowed from my insurance claim, and brought in parts I had from another bike, which would have left me with approximately $1200.00 clear. I stopped in a few times during the rebuild. I left specific instructions of the fork oil weight I wanted, they used different and I insisted to make the change. Got the phone call she was done after 3 full months. Ready to ride her home, I arrived and my lights for my bag lids were not installed. Tim, "oh you wanted those back on?" "YES I want those back on." I waited for them to be installed. Then it was time to review the final itemization paperwork with Tim, which was hand written on the outdated duplicate receipts pad for parts/labor, it was a mess. Nothing was computerized with part numbers/prices/quantity. THEN... the shock came. I had to pay an overage of less than $100.00. WTF? I desperately wanted my bike back so I paid him. The next few weeks I tried to make heads or tales of the receipts compared to my insurance claim. I had one last item I needed to pick up and Tim asked how everything was. I was irritated and told him "You nickeled and dimed me, I expected to walk out with a savings of $1200.00 since I replaced several costly parts I already had brought in." He looked surprised with my reply that I actually called him out on his deception. I called my adjuster, he looked over the receipts I sent him. My adjuster stated it was hard to follow his itemization he did and with the opinion I was nickeled and dimed to death. My adjuster suggested I call BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) I did and the investigation took a couple of months. When all was said and done with BAR, I was slowly discovering parts that were NOT genuine HD parts. Most of it was after market. Special license plate screws I had were missing, in which he claimed were not there when I took my bike in. (They were there.) I had requested my parts back that were replaced. I received a hodge-podge of parts in two small boxes. The return of my old bags where in the original HD boxes from the new ones, which was a guarantee of true HD parts. But my front fender and fairing were just handed over, no boxes. I was going to chalk this up to experience. Today was the real pisser that has prompted me to write this review 1 1/2 years later. I have a front fender skirt I was going to install, and discovered it does not fit. It is a total of 1/4" off. I fitted it to my old fender and it is a perfect fit. Looking under my front fender for the HD part number sticker... NOTHING. ALSO about a month ago, my heal shifter was stripped and I discovered it was mismatched. My heel shifter had been replaced with a toe shift turned the other way to make it work. As any HD rider knows, you can't buy just the heel shifter. I had to buy a new heel/ toe shifter at $150.00 I have told all my riding friends about this experience and do not suggest anyone take anything there for repair! read more

This place is old school. If you want parts, they gottem. If you want to chat about bikes, they will chat and chat and chant. But DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO ACTUALLY WORKING ON YOUR BIKE!!. Took my bike because a friend had heard good things. Dropped my bike off I was early, they do not open until 11. I was told that they would take a look and call. Three days later I had to call them. I was told that they hadn't looked at yet and would call me. A week later I called and was told the bike was going on the rack and they would call me. Two weeks I call again and was told that they working on it. Three weeks later they called bike is ready. They said the prob was the fuel filter inside the tank which they replaced. $520.00. I paid glad to have bike back and out of that grease pit. One mile down the road and the bike is still cutting out. At that point rode the bike to livermore. Three days later I had my bike back running perfect. Had nothing to do with the fuel filter. I got ripped off by thus place so beware. read more

I was in a motorcycle accident and a friend took me to this shop to purchase parts to repair my bike. The owner is Tim, and he is very rude and difficult to work with, using profanity and name calling as defense for his ignorance and lack of solid business practice. I was there at least 5 times, three of them were to return the incorrect parts that Tim sold to me. The only part Tim sold to me that was actually the correct part for my bike was the only part purchased from the Harley Davidson dealer, which, by the way, he claimed took more than two weeks to arrive after placing the order. My first run-in with Tim was after I called the Harley dealer to find out why the part was not in, and was told that it had already been picked up, while Tim was still claiming it had not come in? Every other part he sold to me was wrong, and did not fit on my motorcycle. When I returned the wrong parts to American Custom, Tim yelled at me in front of other customers and argued with me about it! He tried to give me an 'in-store' credit rather than a refund for his mistake! The man will sit and chat with friends and customers on the phone and in the shop while making you wait when he knows you are only there to pick up parts you have already purchased and have been waiting days, or weeks for them to 'come in'. (Although when you purchased the parts he gave you a firm date when they would be available, not once did he come through or call me to explain the delay or when they would actually arrive!) He allows customers to waste their time and show up to find out he failed to follow through. He told me it was my fault for 'wrecking by bike' in the first place! This is a business, and I am a paying customer being treated as though he's doing me a favor taking my money? Do not waste your time or money to be insulted by this man and treated extremely poorly. There are professional businesses all over the Bay Area that will treat their customers with respect and are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to motorcycles, and will follow through when they promise parts and service. Do not allow this rude owner to insult your intelligence with his ignorance. read more

I was referred to this shop by a friend and being a female motorcycle rider it is hard to find a shop where the people treat you with respect as a female rider. I recently bought a Harley and had an issue with the power on the freeway. Tim and his crew took a look and immediately diagnosed what the issue or issues might be. They did the repairs and wow my Harley runs great and has so much power. Tim took the time to explain to me why he thought it wasn't running properly and also what it needed. I told him I knew nothing about Harleys so he took the time to teach me a lot about the bike and show me how everything works together. He says its like baking a cake you have to have all the right ingredients. I find the man very nice and respectful. I have already recommended this place to four friends. I went to the dealership once and was treated like a dumb blond and talked down to so this place was a breath of fresh air. Thank you guys!! read more

AVOID THIS SHOP AT ALL COSTS. I have been building Harley's for over 30 years. They installed wrong parts during a rebuild and when I took it back, it sat for three weeks and nothing was done. I just looked up to see if American custom was on Yelp. I was expecting a lot of reviews and 5 stars straight across but that wasn't the case. Then I realized thats because most bikers don't Yelp. I wanted to build a custom chopper about 8 years ago and researched all over the bay for a builder. Most builders were either cocky, not helpful, or ridiculously expensive. I was referred to Tim by a friend. Tim is extremely helpful. He will take time to explain everything you need to know. An ocean of knowledge. I like going to the shop just to hang out. If you wanna fancy shop go to Sims or Arlens. Tims is a bikers shop. Joey built me the baddest chopper ever. Yes I agree it may take them longer than other shops to get you out the door but that means he's giving the same time that he gives you to his other customers. Tims also has the best knowledge on Harley motors. Mechanics from Harley call him when they have questions. American Customs is the only shop that will touch my bike. read more
