I purchased travel medical insurance from them 2 days ago and have yet to receive a policy number email from them. They did charge my credit card. I am flying off tomorrow and their office is closed. One of the worst service ever. If I don't receive anything in a few more days, I will call my credit card to cancel the purchase as they did not deliver on the service. read more

I had to cancel my trip due to COVID-19 (I bought the policy in December 2019) - and was issued a minuscule refund because they stated "my flight was not cancelled" as their reasoning. Oh that's great - we are in the middle of a Global Pandemic - what is the point of Traveler's Insurance then? I had no issues canceling my flight or hotel, but the Traveler's Insurance (that is supposed to protect me) is giving me the most trouble with my full refund. Stay far away; they point you to submit your claim through an email address that goes nowhere. read more

Do not buy insurance from American Express. They don't pay. I got injured in the plane during the flight. I provide them all the documentation but they still denied my claim. They are doing everything they can to NOT pay as per the cardholder agreement. I would NEVER use this again as an insurance product or as any kind if benefit as a card holder. It's been a year, they have all the info they needed, they confirmed it by phone call now email me saying they don't have all the required info. Every time I submit what they say they need they say they're missing some other piece, and it just revolves. I was actually leaving for Europe tonight on a 13 day tour. I cancelled my trip on January 11th, since my mom was just diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's. Her primary care Dr wrote a note that traveling for 2 weeks would not be a good idea based on my moms dependence on me. I forwarded that letter along with the cancellation fee. Then they wanted a HIPPA letter filled out by her neurologist with a diagnosis. That cost me $25 and I just received it last week. I faxed it to Amex on Tuesday, and last night they informed since my mothers primary care Dr was mentioned, he now has to fill out the HIPPA form. Between paying for forms to be filled out, and paying for faxing, I'm beginning to think it's not worth fighting them for the $550 cancellation fee. I just hope somebody reads this before they purchase travel insurance from Amex. Look up Amex travel insurance complaints. Their going thru exactly what I'm going thru. I only purchased insurance with Amex since I'm a Gold card holder. Never again! What a total rip-off!! read more

I paid almost $4,200 for travel insurance, knowing my cruise itinerary was around South America and should medic evacuate be necessary it would not be cheap. I also assumed this insurance would cover some unexpected happenings -- is that not why we purchase insurance? My main luggage piece did not arrive for the first 16 days of a 23 day cruise. "Replacement" clothing was not really available on board. Better aimed at a Palm Springs resort setting than a cruise near Antarctica. These items required hand washing in cold water. Ever try washing clothing in a bathroom sink? Getting it dry? I was able to buy one item. That is the extent of my reimbursement. Never again with this company. read more

Back in August, I was planning an international trip. To feel comfortable booking the trip (and the only way I was going to book the trip), I decided to use AMEX Assurance to insure the coverage of my trip. I would never have booked the trip (due to the uncertainties of travel due to COVID) if it were not for the total assurance of having my trip completely insured. I made it very clear with the representative, and made sure that I would be able to cancel the trip for any reason (if the trip was cancelled due to COVID or there were travel limitations) and receive the money I would have lost from AMEX assurance. After speaking to 2 representatives of AMEX in regards to purchasing a covered insurance plan that would fit my needs of being able to cancel the trip, I purchased the trip using the AMEX card and purchased the insurance plan. I am infuriated that I have had to spend hours and hours filing claims or talking on the phone to the representatives to get the claim money. It is on AMEX Assurance for having told me any cancellation due to COVID would be covered. The recorded phone call, which I had requested to listen to but was denied, was listened to by Daron & another representative. From their interpretation of the call, they denied the claim. Daron also mentioned that there was a first phone call with an AMEX representative regarding the insurance that they did not listen to. They were not thorough or honest in their "interpretations" and "investigation." Ultimately, after spending hours writing letters/emailing/calling, a higher-up manager overturned the denial and FINALLY took responsibility and agreed that AMEX made the mistake. Horrible, experience, and I will definitely never use such a dishonest company that lacks integrity/responsibility. read more

The worst insurance product I have ever purchased!!! A complete waist of money, time and energy. We purchased a plan for trip cancellation. Our flight and hotel were both cancelled due to no fault of our own. We were promised a one time accommodation from Am Ex but they never followed through. We have spent hours and hours on the phone with them and they transfer you from one person to another and then another in hopes that you will give up. We even tried to have a claim filed based on our plan and nothing!!! They just wanted to keep the money we paid and not pay any claims. We will never ever purchase another product from this horrible company!!!!! read more

Hi I just wanted to bring to everyone's notice about the unethical practices followed by American Express Travel Insurance so that you are not caught in their scam. About 4 years ago, I purchased travel insurance through Amex card. I recently purchased a ticket on the different Amex card and I was charged premium for the travel insurance. I never renewed the policy after my travel four years ago so I checked with the company and their response was that since I bought it few years ago, It is still on my account and funny part was that it was bought on a different card but apparently it gets transferred to all amex cards ( I had no idea about this). I requested them to refund the premium since my ticket was not used and also that I was unaware of the charge and their practice.But they flatly refused and then I requested to speak to the supervisor to sort it out. But the representative won't let me talk to the supervisor and instead asked me to file a claim. I had bought the ticket through Southwest and as per their policy they wouldn't refund the ticket cost but I can apply it toward my future travel. So I was hesitant to file a claim but the rep insisted and I filed the claim which was denied. My concern is that the insurance company is forcing us to buy the insurance ( It doesn't happen with other insurance companies) and pay for the premium without our knowledge and I found out that I have been charged only after I received the bill. I believe this is not very ethical. Who would remember the insurance you bought four years ago is still valid and you will be slapped with a premium if you use any Amex card to make the ticket purchase( I think it should be on a yearly or per travel basis). And also why was I asked to file a claim when I repeatedly kept on telling them that I can use the travel dollars for my future travel but they wanted me to file a claim because they knew it would be denied and that way they won't have to refund my premium. Absolutely ridiculous!!! Has anyone else experienced the same then please let me know. I think this calls for a class action against AMEX Assurance's unethical practices. Extremely unprofessional. After purchasing a one year AMEX travel insurance policy upon expiration they asked if we would like to renew for another year. We said no and then a month later they proceeded to charge us the annual premium. It took six months of complaints before we were finally refunded the money. Another year later they had the nerve to send another email asking whether we were interested in renewing another travel insurance policy. We clearly stated NO! In the email. A week later they charged us another yearly premium. Unbelievably unprofessional and dishonest. If you want to spend months trying to be reimbursed, Amex travel insurance is the way to go. read more
