There are a lot of great credit unions out there. This is not one. They are not very helpful and will not protect you against fraud. I moved to them from u.s Bank so I could have less exposure to the worldwide web and having my information out there among thousands of bank employees. When I moved my money over I had no access to it for 2 weeks and was not able to pay my mortgage. It ended up hurting my credit. Then I experienced an $80 fraud charge and instead of helping me I got an interrogation and them telling me that I gave my card to the fraudsters and therefore they weren't going to help me get my money back. They even went as far to tell me they were going to review the phone call with me and an agent to see if I stated I gave my card information. The question should have never been asked. There are numerous types of scams out there and many people don't know often if they are dealing with a real institution or someone pretending. Regardless, most large banks like Bank of America or Wells Fargo would have already got my money back. These guys were not willing and therefore do not deserve my account. read more

If I could give this bank a zero star, I would! I wanted to order some checks and they suggested to order online or by phone (the phone number on the checkbook and said 24/7). Tried both for three days, the website kept popping up errors and asked us to call a different number and we called and we either got put on hold forever or said oh we are now close and cut you off. What kind of bank is it? This bank seriously needs to invest on some technology. Finally called their general number I found on their website, still took me a couple times to talk to a real person to place our order since I got cut off the first time. Ordering checks should not be that hard!!! If a company they hired to process check orders didn't do their jobs, they should have looked for other options!!! read more

You call with high hopes of speaking to someone and they tell you they dont give you that information over the phone, whaaat!?! They force you to speak to an "overflow" operator which then tells you, someone has to call you back in 24 hrs. Whaaaat!?! Or, your choice is to drive in traffic at least an hour to a branch or wait till they call you, and of course thats pretty convenient... Don't call us, we'll call you No thats customer service at its best. Only one number, and no one who is an overflow operator can tell you a different number or person to call. Do not use this credit union. I was hoping for a smaller bank to provide quicker services when needed but I should have just used a bigger bank to get better benefits. I am trying to sell my car (has a partial loan balance) and the customer rep told me that they could not process the payoff for 3-4weeks. I asked to talk to a loan officer and I may get a call tomorrow. Called another time and got different answers and still cannot be connected to an actual expert. I will lose this sale because my bank won't give me answers and I have no way of talking to an actual knowledgable person. I have verified this is the correct credit union and have attempted to call the main line (1112) several times and that is the reason for my frustration. read more

I've been a member of this credit union since 2016 and I have to say I'm beyond please with my experience with Brooke Davila! When I decided to get a new car recently she walked me through the process of both selling and trading in my car. Once I found the perfect car she was available for me to contact daily through the process of selling my current car, paying off my current loan and getting the absolute BEST APR on my new loan. Everything was handled through email which has been great for my busy work schedule that makes it's difficult to meet at a credit union during regular business hours. Anjelica Miles was amazing. She was like an old friend that was determined to meet my needs. I have been having issues with account alerts via text for years! I didn't really mind because I knew my account was secure via the app and I could access it anytime. However, when I mentioned the issue, she fixed it in an instant! She was kind, professional, and everything I would want and/or expect from a customer service representative. I have been with AFCU for over 20 years. This type of service is exactly the reason why I prefer them over any bank. The interest rate on their car loans are 2nd to none. Their personal touch is unmeasured. I love this credit union. Their online banking keeps signing me up for bill pay. I got an email today that said "congratulations for enrolling in bill pay." This happened months ago, I had to go to the branch monthly to make sure the fees were reversed because it would automatically enroll me. Now I've been on hold for 19 mins and 02 seconds as they are trying to delete bill pay, a service I never even requested. They need to update their systems. This is terrible customer service. The website is out dated. It's like you're using a website from the late 90s. I'm so done being a member. You have ruined this experience for me. Now After waiting on hold for 20 minutes, they advised me I have to go to a branch to fix this. I never even signed up for it you should be able to help me. This is TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! read more

I have probably only been with your credit union for maybe a month now I was having trouble login in to my account online and my mobile app I decided to call your customer service number and absolutely baffles me on how rude of an employee you have answering your phones this women answers rudely and every question I asked was an inconvenience to her she made me feel like I was stupid asking her questions 1st of all I was not even rude to her if you don't like your job why are you there??? My company had your credit union come to our job and give a speech and the ladies we're phenomenal however after experiencing this I don't know after reading your reviews I'm not the only one with this problem you need to talk to your employees as of now I would not recommend this place to my colleagues very upset. read more

Both my son and daughter had hundreds of dollars taken out of their account by this credit union.Most recent example; My son's account has been closed since 1/2016. yesterday he received a letter from Ascencion Hernandez, Senior Recovery Officer stating as of 3/29/16 he owes $219.00. he has no credit cards or monthly payments, he has not deposited any money in this account for a year and half.Thought we were done with this SCAM known as American First. No explanation or reason was given. JUST THREATS. THIS IS NOT A FEDERALLY REGULATED INSTITUTION They are regulated by the same people who regulate the bogus check cashing lenders, by the state. Basically they can get away with manipulating accounts and charging fees for any apparent reason they make up. Find a federal bank or credit union. BEWARE!! read more

Don't waste your time here if you do any actual banking such as wire transfers. Twice they have made my life difficult, the first being that they wouldn't let me wire funds that were available in my account because they wanted to hold them for 10 days. The second time they wouldn't let me wire funds into an LLC checking account I own because the LLC wasn't my name. They required me to come into their office even though I live 400 miles away otherwise they cannot wire it. I WANT ACCESS TO USE MY MONEY YOU IDIOTS. All under the guise of "Fraud Prevention." Give me a break, etrade, chase, they all do fine and they make wire transfers simple whenever I need them. These guys need to get their act together and upgrade to the 21st century or just shut their doors. read more

This Credit Union completely screwed me over. After submitting an application with Alma they approved me for a 35k loan that was good for 60 days so I went and purchased a truck. After everything was said and done they called us and told us that we were not approved even though my credit score is 750 and have a 10k income. They said because I have been with my job for only 3 months they can no longer approve me. Okay so why tell me I'm approved and then call me and say that I'm not. I am very upset and will never got to Americas First Credit Union again in my life. Completely unprofessional. read more

I have been with AFFCU for many years back when worked for Alpha-Beta stores then when they were Landmark CU with Lucky Stores before American Stores bought Lucky Stores then back to AFFCU. Over 30 years total. First they closed there Mission Viejo branch then they closed there Irvine branch. So I use DD or Digital banking because the closet branch is Orange 247 E Katella Ave Orange, CA 92867. So I receive a small business check from a client as I'm a IT Consultant for $270.00 So I endorse per online digital instructions "For Mobile Deposit Only" and they declined to deposit my check because they said I had to endorse is with my signature, again the mobile deposit windows does not say or mention anything about signature endorsement also I have deposited numerous checks from this customer. Why all of the sudden this issue I thought I would look at Yelp and I see a lot unhappy customers. I would like the thank "Gene" for his wonderful customer service. You should read the online digital instructions. I know AFFCU dosen't care about loosing a customer now. read more

Switched to American First Credit Union from a big name bank and couldn't be happier. I opened my account at the Orange branch and they made it so easy and no problems. Ideal customer service and they make sure you're taken care and don't make it difficult like the big banks tend to. They definitely don't treat you like you're just another customer.
