Saturday 4/20/24 Always a great experience with SchoolsFirst! I've been living in Hawaii for the last two years, but keep my banking with SchoolsFirst. I happened to be visiting California, and needed to take care of a few things. I walked into the Placentia location, signed in, was told there's a 30min wait. Not a problem, as the kiddie table has iPads loaded with games! I passed the time with a furious game of Fruit Ninja and complimentary coffee. Account adviser Josef found me, walked me back to his cubicle. He contacted the lending department to update my mailing address, and whipped up a new debit card for me! As I was traveling, I usually go on the app to put a travel notice on my debit card, but my card was showing as inactive (it expires in May). Josef advised me that a new card was mailed earlier in the month, and that if it materializes, I should shred it. I came home 4/21, checked my mailbox...original replacement debit card was in there LOL. read more

From simple bank task to home or car loan, SchoolsFirst has always been with me whenever I need financial assistance. The bank is freshly renovated and they maintained the facility very clean and neat. If you need beverage, they have water and coffee as a compliment, which is great. There are two ATM machines outside and a station with four to five amazing clerks with excellent customer service. The front desk staff greets you with kindness and directs you to the right officer. There are several cubicles with desks of car and home loan officers who are very knowledgeable and helpful guiding you through the process. My home loan officer, Zulema is very responsive on my call and email despite of the last minute request during her vacation and the weekend. She has never shown any frustration and inconvenience. Instead, she worked hard finding several options and recommended the best way, which I deeply appreciated her time and effort. read more

Usually, I have no reason to go inside of this establishment. But today I did. Last night I was at the ATM machine because I am a member of a credit union. Just not this one. I noticed that someone had left their cash along with their withdrawal receipt in the ATM. Being the responsible citizen that I am I took the cash with the receipt, wrapped it up and saved it for today so I could walk it in to the bank. Fast-forward, I walked inside around noon and spoke with Miss Terri. She was the nicest teller I have ever worked with. She was so thankful and gracious that I returned the customers $800 along with their transaction slip, and she said that she would work with her manager to ensure that the customer Got their cash back. She also asked me for my name and number just in case the customer wanted to thank me. We had a nice conversation about doing the right thing and being a good person. I left feeling so happy knowing that this person would eventually recover their funds that they obviously withdrew for a reason, and that they are part of such a great credit union. They've given me my first loan (I was borderline not going to get it but the bank boss at that time overrode it .) I'm glad he did. I never made 1 last payment because I felt such honor that that boss man believed in me. Fast forward 20 years; still loving the intimate locations, super friendly tellers, free coin exchange, no excessive wait on their hotline, the app is easy to use. They have overdraft protection for your checking in case you don't have enough funds. It's like a credit card for your checking, so no fees! The fees here are minimal. I'm never had any. My first interaction with Mrs. Garcia at the Placentia branch was one that I never knew would help me as an individual, college student and graduate and now husband and father. This branch reminds me of a B of A. They are very slow. It's smaller than the Santa Ana location and only had three tellers. They aren't as friendly here. When I got my money the teller said it automatically comes out of a machine, do you want me to recount it for you? Tellers should automatically recount the money. Horrible experience with Nohomey got there eager to open up a credit card, nohemy didn't greet us just sat us down told me I already had accepted an offer for a card which I didn't. She looked annoyed and frustrated and told me "well I can print the email they sent you where you accepted" I didn't accept and instead of feeling like I was being helped i felt judged and like I was incompetent. My mom wanted a credit card as well she had a pre approved offer but my mom wanted another option and asked about the process, nohemy looked upset (if you hate your job or don't know how to do something don't take it out on me) she called corporate and in front of us stated "yeah I told her this is the better option and she is stubborn and won't listen... etc" making faces rolling her eyes and talking very poorly and rude about my mom while we are next to her.. she didn't explain much to us but was talking about us on the call again making us sound incompetent. My mom asked her a question and she said "please don't interrupt me" we grabbed our stuff and walked out. I've never felt so unwelcomed or had such a horrible experience at a bank or actually anywhere before, such a shame. Hope she has a better day and doesn't take it out on any other clients. read more

I typically visit the Anaheim location of Schools First since it's closer to me, but the last few visits there seemed to be a lot of customers waiting to be helped. Plus their coin machine seemed to be pretty busy with people waiting to use it, and today I was wanting to redeem my coins. While their customer service has always been good, I prefer going where it's less crowded so I decided to try the Placentia location. I headed over today on a Friday night and half expected the worse with tons of people and a busy coin machine. I arrived about 5:35 pm and to my surprise, there was plenty of parking, it just took me longer to drive around the lot to figure out the entrance but I followed others in. I walked in and immediately saw the coin machines to my right, 2 free machines with no one using them. I was a bit embarrassed because I apparently had a lot of coins and the bank was so quiet, yet my coins being processed in the machine were super noisy lol. Either way I finished, got my ticket with my total amount and got in line to redeem the voucher. I forgot my atm card but had my drivers license and credit card and the teller (who apparently was training according to his name tag) quickly and politely helped me with my transaction. It was a great experience and I will return to this branch! The lady in front of me realized while she was in line she had forgotten her purse and had no form of ID or cards on her, so she checked with the Info Desk if she'd be able to get cash and they assured her yes. I have been to many locations all over Orange County and loved the service although never enough to leave a review. This time it is necessary, I met a young man named Angel and I love that name! We talked about names while he was handling my transactions, I came in mid day on a Tuesday so not too busy therefore Angel had a little time to small talk and I can tell he is a great person and the branch is lucky to have him! He is really the reflection of most worker I have encountered but for some reason I was compelled to leave him a review after our brief encounter. I have been with Schools First for over 20+ years. We recently moved out of state and when we transferred the title to schools first. Something happened where the title was not transferred into their name as a lien holder. Now we are getting letters stating that we have to go to the dmv and have their names put on the title. We have already been once. And now we have to go back. They dmv is saying that it will be $62 for the name change. Why weren't we told about this? Why do WE have to pay for their mess up? When talking to a lady from there she said. " there is nothing we can do to help". Well after 20 years. I guess I/we need to look for another credit union. read more

I don't like banks and their hidden fees (I quit Bank of America long ago) and I will always recommend credit unions..especially this one.
