It's taken me a year to write this review because I still want to cry whenever I think of the wedding dress debacle with my first seamstress at a different company. (Note: I'm NOT a particularly emotional person.) Luckily, Svetlana was there to save the day! To make a long story short, my first "professional" seamstress had my dress for 3.5 months. When my dress came back half-assed and still falling off me two weeks before my wedding, I knew it was time to run away and shell out more money for someone else to fix it. Full story + photos to come via Yelp review eventually. Anyway, I'm SOO grateful that my makeup artist recommended American Freestyle Alterations. I reached out via Yelp, and Vladimir's response was swift. I was in the downtown shop the next day. I had so much anxiety, but everyone there was very kind and reassuring. Svetlana was a lifesaver and an absolute joy to work with. The shop is incredibly busy, but she was able to get my dress completed in time for my wedding. She needed to take the dress in 1.5+ inches! Svetlana pointed out all the shoddy work from the first seamstress, which I hope to laugh about one day (not there yet), but she did what she could to salvage it with the limited time. I needed to get new shoes with shorter heels since fabric can't magically grow back after it's been cut (*sigh*), but luckily Svetlana was able to fix my crooked bottom hem and train. I brought my wedding dress here after a pretty terrible experience with my bridal shop and being pretty unhappy with the style and fit of my dress. On the one hand, they worked miracles and transformed my dress into something I loved with a great fit. I loved the dress and thought I looked amazing in it, and that was mostly due to their work. On the other hand they actually accidentally cut the front of my dress and then tried to disguise it by stitching it closed. They said nothing to me about it and I didn't realize it until I took it out of the garment bag on my wedding day. I know this was not damage I accidentally did myself because as I said, if you look closely you can see that there are small stitches to try and repair it. I think this is why they were weirdly pushy for me to put on my belt when I was trying it on in the store on the day I picked it up from them. I kept saying I wanted to see what it looked like without the belt because I wasn't going to wear the belt until the reception, but she kept trying to put it on me, in a manner that was so strange I even commented to my friends and fiancé about it later that day. In retrospect I think it was because the belt covers the damaged area. I was hoping to save this dress to be worn by a daughter or niece someday, but passing along a dress with a mended rip in the front and center directly below the bust is just not the same. So five stars for their kindness and their redesign of my dress, zero stars for actually damaging my dress, I guess it averages out to a three. I just wish they would've been honest about it. read more

As a procrastinator. I waited a week before a wedding to alter my bridesmaid dress. I cannot say enough good things about Svetlana and this little shop. My husbands suit arrived THREE DAYS before our wedding (Friday night for a Monday wedding). I was sure we wouldn't be able to have it altered but called in the hopes we could at least get the sleeves and pants shortened. I called 5 minutes before closing on a Friday night, doubting anyone would answer. Not only did Svetlana answer, she told me she wljld hold the business open for me so I could bring the suit in. My husband and I rushed in and she measured and fitted him, assuring us that not only could she shorten the sleeves and pants, but thst she could tailor the entire suit. As she pinned him, she explained the cost of every alteration option. We went for almost every single one, which was almost an entire rebuilding of the suit (she had to take the sleeves off and everything). It wound up costing about 140 and it was done by noon the day of our wedding. I feel so lucky to have found Svetlana. She is a wonderful, beautiful person and anyone who has any complaints about the cost of her alterations clearly has no point of reference or appreciation lf the level of complexity involved in something like a bridal gown. This woman is pure gold and will bend over backwards to give you what you need. Please note that my wedding was on a rainy Monday in October and I imagine the shop is much busier during peak wedding season, but I personally will never go anywhere else. read more

One of just two regrets I had in my entire wedding was getting my dress altered here. Despite rave reviews, what I experienced from Svetlana and her staff was mediocre, disappointing, and overpriced. It took 4 fittings to get a Vera Wang trumpet gown altered, costing nearly $450. Despite staff assurances that they needed only a month to complete alterations, I barely made it to my wedding rehearsal in downtown Seattle with dress in hand, 10 minutes before rehearsal the day prior to my wedding. After 4 alterations and a monstrous price tag, the final dress ended up being a size too big with a noticeable gap in the back. When I picked up my final dress two days prior to my wedding, the gown was visibly wrinkled and unwearable. Had I not insisted otherwise, Svetlana and Anna were pushing me to leave with a wrinkled dress for my wedding. Bride beware: Be wary of short time frames quoted. This is a dress factory in tight quarters. Dress alterations here are neither reliable or calming - poor scheduling, late deadlines, high prices, questionable quality. Dresses are everywhere and of the 4 fittings I had here, every visit felt chaotic. Svetlana is charming, but charging $450+ for nearly botched, late wedding alterations is unacceptable. read more

There was lot of beading and she made sure each of the beads were tight enough. I took her recommendation on the bustle and I am glad I did. Length was perfect. I've been here once before but my latest experience was really stressful, prompting me to review. My first experience with bridesmaid dress alterations was totally fine, and the staff is so nice! More recently, I reached out on Yelp to see if an appointment was needed and what the turnaround time would be. The owners were super responsive on Yelp! Went to the downtown Seattle location about 1.5 weeks before a (rescheduled) out of state wedding to have a dress let out. The seamstress said there was enough fabric to take the dress out slightly and make it more comfortable. I paid and was told to pickup about 5 days later - longer than I expected but fine. I went to go pick up the dress and was met with the attached sign - someone in the business got COVID so the Seattle location was closed. I'm empathetic to the situation, but I surely would've appreciated a call to let me know. I called the Bellevue location as instructed, and they found my dress - which hadn't been altered at all and they weren't even clear what the ask was. They asked me to drive to Bellevue to try it on again, which I did, after which I was told there was NOT enough fabric to let the dress out. This was less than a week before the wedding I needed the dress for. They said they'd do their best, and I came back the next day to pick up my perfectly fitting dress. There was clearly a lack of communication between locations during the downtown shutdown, and I'm thankful I had transportation to go out to Bellevue several times! read more

I've come to see Svetlana for several occasions (bridesmaid dresses and my own wedding dress). 1. Her prices are very reasonable for the work that she does, especially compared to other alterations companies. So don't let the reviews saying that her prices are too high scare you away. 2. It definitely is an experience to visit this shop. Yes, there are multiple people getting seen at once and it is a small shop. I personally find the atmosphere fun and it feels very much like a community (even if you never see the other people again). You will most likely not have her undivided one on one attention, but it doesn't take away from the quality and care that she puts into her work. She calls everyone "Queen" (bride) or "Princess" (bridesmaid) or "King". It's sweet and endearing. Always book an appointment. 3. As I already said, I've taken multiple dresses to Svetlana, she also hemmed my husband's suit pants for our wedding, altered almost all of my bridesmaid's dresses, and altered one of my bridesmaid's husband's suit as well. I highly recommend her to anyone. 4. Svetlana is truly an artist and will work hard to make sure things look right! 5. Bride pro tip: ALWAYS bring a parent, bridesmaid, or friend with you when you have your fittings. They can be helpful when it comes to making decisions (how else are you going to know what bustle looks best with your dress?!).
