This program is a joke and scam. Unfortunately I had to give a star in order for me to post…read more Signing on with David Mercure to the medical assistant program there were many unfulfilled promises. Before joining this program I had done my research and emailed the school to find out more information. One important factor I needed information for was if this program would help if I chose to work in pediatrics. Of course the answer was yes. Lie! For the little assignments we completed pediatrics was not covered in any topic. The schedule was set up to be 3 days a week 4 hours each day including the hands on module which followed this schedule except was opposite days of the online portion. The instructor Westley Ellis would take away from our learning time problem dumping his life problems on to us students. Quite a few times class was cancelled because Westley forgot he had to teach class. How do you forget about your job? During each module the assignments and grades were posted, but once the next module started all previous work completed along with proof of grades was deleted. There was no access for this. If you had any problem regarding your assignments or the website Cengage you were to contact Cengage because Westley never had an answer. Everything we needed for a job was supposed to be included. CPR course and either the school's choice for an externship or a medical facility of your own choice. When it came time to take the CPR course I had to pay out of pocket for the course and only one location was available in downtown Boston. Having one location available wasn't very do-able so I had to find my own CPR course. When I had asked Westley about other CPR locations being available he had told me that was the only option. There were many problems with this program and every time I had a question I would ask Westley as he was the instructor for this. He told me to ask David who I had signed on with, and guess what, he told me to talk with Westley. it was a continuous back and forth with both of them with talk to him, no talk to him and never getting an answer. For employees to work at this job for a few decades they really aren't knowledgeable in their career. One of the main problems during this program was that I chose my own externship. My externship offered to take me in earlier than the course end date, so of course I jumped for that opportunity and reached out to Westley and David for their approval of starting my externship early. This was a fight for weeks to be able to get an answer of what I could do. There excuse for me not starting early was that I had missing work and my grades weren't good. I had an A in every part of the program and all of work had been completed. The owner Song Jin had to provide me my own transcript which proved my grades and my finished assignments. When it came time to receive my certificate, it took weeks when I was supposed to receive it "within 30 days of completion" so I was told, but another student was told via text by Westley once they had finished the course they would receive their certificate the next day. 42 days later I was still looking for my certificate. I had to go in person in order to get things rolling and have "papers processed" in order for me to have my certificate. When trying to get my certificate I was then told to talk with Song Jin who seemed to be just as confused and was also not really helpful. Adding on to everything being included, I was told that there was not going to be a state exam. It seemed odd but I went with it, "they knew best." At the very end as I was starting my externship I was informed by another student that a state exam was needed. I had asked Westley where I could go to take the exam, and his words were "google it." He said via text that some jobs would need you to take the exam there at work online. A certificate of COMPLETION is not good enough. A job wants you to be certified before hiring you. 3 months after me completing the program and starting my externship I finally received my certificate after continuously reaching out. Oh and they stopped providing 1098-T for tax documents. They did have them about 7-8 years ago. They go through a TFC bank and when I had asked them for my 1098, they said to call the school and they will have all of the information you need. I would NEVER recommend this school/program. A waste of time and money. If you decide to join just be prepared that you: This school is very unprofessional and needs to be shut down. 1. Need to find your own CPR course. 2. It's best if you choose your own externship site. 3. You will need to take a state exam find a place yourself and pay it out of your own pocket. 4. Don't bother asking any questions to anybody as they don't know. 5. Be prepared to hear more about Westley's life problems than learning. 6. Don't expect going into job you learned what you were supposed to. Start teaching yourself and doing your own research on medical topics.

It makes me sad to write this review, especially since I felt the possibilities of a community…read moreatmosphere at the Eliot school, but I was really disturbed by the use of the words, to me in the last email by the Assistant Director, Jean - "At this point, I think we just need to part ways." (when someone who's providing a service to you says that - HUGE RED FLAG!) So, I signed up for private lessons with Joe for $65/hour. This was expensive for me, but I really needed to get a project done for a deadline. I was clear about what I wanted a small model of a house, with all mitered joints, because I was going to use it to cast a model. I even brought paper patterns. Joe met with me and said it was do-able. We did the first session of three hours, one of which he gave me an hour free, it seemed to go well. (I got the hour free - because the the machines here aren't so good - so its not your fault, his words) We didn't finish so I suggest we meet again. An hour into the next session, Joe proclaimed that the project was not do-able and too complicated, because there isn't a left-handed table saw. He even took my piece and attempting to go forward, took it the sander and wanted to sand it down to 45 degrees (yikes). Anyhow, so I decided to cut my losses and say, okay let's stop. He decided not to charge me for this hour. So I left with a pile of wood, and also broken-hearted, because I had really wanted to complete this piece. So, I wrote Jean, asking if I could get my money back, because I was clear about what I wanted in my project and felt like I should have been told that my project was not do-able from the beginning or at minimum, warned. Not have my project unfinished, after I had spent $130, 4 hours of time, and $30 on materials. And on top of it, I now need to find and pay someone to build this model. It wasn't anything personal against Joe, he was a nice guy, but more about professionalism. For example, if you had a contractor who said they could do something, they wouldn't walk away midway through the project and say it was too hard, leaving you hanging. Same concept. But instead, I got an email that from Jean that said, we are NOT refunding you, but (as if I had won a prize) we aren't charging you for the extra two hours Joe gave you, and "at this point, I think we just need to part ways."

We were walking from the north end after getting fresh pastries from an amazing shop ( See my other Boston reviews) when we saw a small historical sign explaining the history of North Bennet Street School. It was bustling as we curiously peered in. As we continue to walk up to the corner where we spot a sign for an open house at the school. We immediately turned around and went back. The lobby and staff were so welcoming! They got us checked in and answered a few of my questions. They gave us a low down and a map. Each area had us exploring and listening to the enthusiasm spilling from the students. It was really interesting and inspiring. Each presentation was so specialized and well organized. We spent a good chunk of time learning about the complexity of pianos, paper making, hand bound books, architecture and more! Another highlight was talking to an older gentleman who was a first year silver smith ( yes it was super cool) who was putting the finishing touches on a ring just as we walked by. He took the time to show us all of the steps from a rod of silver to the dazzling finished ring!!!! My feedback is that they should a season or two of web series showing their talents to the world. It would also be a great STEM connection for education. So many talents and interesting people in the area. Highly recommended. I'd love to attend a class or two here!

The admissions committee ghosted my student after they completed all the admissions requirements in time for the priority deadline. My student received an email confirming their materials were submitted in time for the priority deadline. Following an interview, there was no notification of acceptance, rejection or placement on a wait list. Zero. Weeks went by, and then months. My student sent emails to follow up, including to the admissions director. Crickets. We parents also contacted the admissions office and director to ask about our student's application. No response to very polite emails and calls. At one point, we got a human on the phone at the admissions office who seemed to be reading from a script, saying they were reviewing applications and would reach out if they needed more info. Six months have passed since the priority application deadline. Still no word -- except that they have the nerve to keep contacting my student with marketing materials. So, clearly they have accurate contact info. Even highly selective Harvard communicates with all applicants to let them know if they're in or out. Yet, NBSS can't get its act together to offer applicants the courtesy of sending a timely rejection email. There is something seriously wrong, in my opinion, with an artisan and trade school that charges $30K a year but treats prospective applicants and families in this manner. In my view, it's a big red flag, and I'd be curious to know if others have had similar experiences.

CLASSES: BACE offers Adult Education Classes, taking visitors behind the scenes of zoo exhibits. MY FAVE CLASS: GIRAFFE SCHOOL... You get to feed "Beau" the giraffe by hand! Gorilla School was not nearly as exciting, but you do learn a lot about the personalities of each gorilla resident of this Boston Zoo. They also offer a Big Cats Class as well. THE DEAL: Go with a friend, so you can take photos of each other, and video your "behind the scenes" experience.

Graduated from Launch; obtained job…read more I applied to Launch Academy since I was looking for a way to kick start my career after I lost my previous job and after weighing a few options ended up deciding on Launch and I think I can say it was honestly among the best decisions I've made in my life. The staff were extremely welcoming and supportive the whole way through and the students I worked with were also great. Even after graduating from Launch I felt I was connected to a great network that I can always reach out to for anything which I think some other bootcamps really don't give you access to. Now I won't shy away from it but this experience is NOT for everyone, you have to put a lot of money upfront for the course (like most bootcamps) and the curriculum is intense but I think the end result is truly worth it as you'll come out with understanding of technology that you did not have before and be ready at least put your foot in the door of the industry. If you're looking for a bootcamp that feels more welcoming but also will get you the tools you need for future programming jobs then I would recommend Launch.

I had to ask several times about how to pay, put off work for several months in order to attend, and spent a lot of time fundraising because the staff were unclear about how their payments plans worked. Feel free to message me for more info but I've decided to use One Month Rails and the free tutorials out there until I finish graduate school because the experience with these guys left me unsure about whether or not I would even get a decent education with them. I think they're a little immature in general and irresponsible financially. A lot of these bootcamps have a "large group awareness training" vibe to them, the enthusiasm behind which I was perhaps blind enough to enjoy, until I realized that they are incapable of providing a product or service in a way that would be helpful to me. I also had to bring up a lawsuit to get the deposit back - and call and email several times. Not a fun process. They made the ludicrous assertion that they don't refund deposits because of "all the resources" that they provide before the course starts, or something to that effect, but I still don't have access to the resources they promised other than a Dropbox file with books I would find for free that arguably aren't even the best materials on the subjects they suggest students study before the course starts. They also said I was getting access to "people," but the co-founder was going to be unable to address my issue for at least three days and the other available people were the folks who didn't understand how to communicate effectively to begin with. I had to remind them that I am an adult with a career and a life and that their admissions process was hindering my ability to get on with either. Their response to me was that the "family" there probably wouldn't be a good fit and that they were "revoking their acceptance" - I had to point out that if that's how they treat their family, they certainly don't deserve to call themselves one. It's also a pretty bad sign when businesses that can't be up front about money start calling themselves a family to make up for their lack of professionalism and inability to provide the structure and resources they promise you. My son took an on-line Penguin coding course last Sunday. My son had some coding experience with…read morePython prior to taking the course, accordingly the course was easy for him to understand. My son and I were both impressed with the pace and content of the first course. In the first course, all students were afforded the opportunity to show the Python skills they learned during the course. If given the opportunity, taking an introductory course with Penguin coding school is worth the experience.

HOWEVER, I cannot recommend this school. The CEO Yumio is incredibly disrespectful. On multiple occasions I overheard him yelling at his employees and even a child. It's so unfortunate that this is the case because my child had a fun time. I just cannot support a place run in such a demeaning environment.
