Keep driving past all the chain hotels/motels by the interstate and pick a place closer to the main strip of shops and restaurants. We were personally greeted by the owners upon arrival. For the first time EVER staying at a B&B, we were allowed to select our rooms from the ones available by visiting each open room. We've probably stayed at 15 B&Bs and nobody has ever let us snoop into all the open rooms (they're usually locked). The owner visited with us on the back screened-in porch for a few minutes before letting us get settled in. The rooms are all tastefully decorated in shabby chic decor with crisp white spreads and linens. Each bedroom has a private bathroom with a shower stall and basket full of fresh, white towels. The bed was SUPER comfortable and we had the best night's sleep of our entire 8-day trip. Breakfast was served promptly at 8:30 am and the owner sat down to enjoy the meal with us. We really enjoyed hearing stories and getting a bit of local culture - it's the best part of traveling. If we're ever in the area again (and we hope to be sometime soon), we'll come back to the Creole Cottage. This would be a great place for several couples to stay and have some privacy but also access to the common areas (dining room and back porch where they stock a mini-fridge with bottled water). The folks at the Creole Cottage treated us like family, and we felt like we'd walked into the pages of Southern Living magazine. Hint: be sure to try the "mayhaw" jelly - it's a local favorite and delicious! We had it on buttered biscuits along with eggs, thick cut bacon, grits, fresh fruit and hot coffee. Perfection!

By good fortune, we booked Creole Cottage on Cane river in walking distance to good food and live music. As an Innkeeper myself, I know a 5 star when I see one and this one earns every star from minute of arrival until your reluctant departure.Warm southern hospitality, immaculate and cozy quarters with a delicious breakfast each day seems to be the norm there. We loved it. The icing on the cake was the innkeeper's "tribal knowledge" of food venues and local sites. Natchitoches is a must go and Creole Cottage is a must stay!

My mom stayed in a cabin by herself but couldn't shower nor bathe because there were no handrails. The toilet had no assistance bars. My sister's husband is an amputee and their bathroom was just like my mom's. My family (husband/children/grandchildren) stayed in a large 8 bedroom/8.5 bathroom cabin and there was 1 toilet in that entire 7,500 sq ft cabin with disability accommodations and that was only a toilet. 2-Entire resort is full of roots disabling people who struggle to walk. There are absolutely no smooth walkways whatsoever for guests to transition from the road or their golf carts to the cabins. 3-There are no wheelchair accessible ramps anywhere on the grounds. 4-There are no listings on the website, which is the method most people use, for disabled people to identify whether or not this resort is a good fit based off of the cabin descriptions and there are over 30 cabins! We fished at the ponds and at the reservoir. On Thursday we went to the pool, I have 2 kids and they are black(we adopted even though that doesn't matter) . A huge family came with at least 10 kids. My daughter asked if she could play with them they just looked at her. She still tried to play she's 8, they completely ignored her. Later my kids were kayaking the girls asked to borrow my daughters paddle, of course she gave it to them and they left her stranded. I am a paraplegic(again not that it matters) but I'm 120 lbs In a wheelchair. I couldn't take it anymore so I confronted them. I was then surrounded by at least 15 people, I pushed some older guy that kept coming at me, to say I was scared is a understatement. Needless to say we left tonight and will never go back!! During our stay, no cars drove past. There was no highway noise and no street noise. Our first night was the last night for the family at their lake cabin that's about a half football field away. We did nor see them. But we heard fireworks that one might. The spacious cottage is situated in a way that the owner's home a short walk away on property is not visible. For the most part, Sundlower Hideaway looks toward the two country roads that dead end at the cottage. Even those roads are obscured from clear view by sunflower decor, bushes, bird feeders, nestboxes, and birdbaths. To bring the tree'd outside in, I raised the shades and pulled open the shears upon arrival and, except for the room darkening shades in the bedroom (which, with door closed, actually darkened the bed room during broad daylight), they all stayed open during our stay. No one was within view. The Sunrise Patio has a wide open sky that was perfect for early morning birdwatching. I grabbed coffee and started the free Merlin app that identifies birds by sound. Birds Merlin heard included Kentucky Warbler, Fish Crow, Chimney Swift (there are two Chimney Swift towers on the property), Tufted Titmouse, Red-headed Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Red-eyed Vireo, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Wood Thrush, Blue Jay, Carolina Chickadee, Carolina Wren, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Northern Cardinal, Purple Martin, and more. Throughout the day we watched hummingbirds from the spacious covered back porch. For hours, I kept my legs up on the chaise lounge. Chatting. Listening. Reading. Napping. Drinking a beer. In the evening, from the pier, for a few short minutes we watched Chimney Swifts dive into the tower built for their nesting activities. And, we heard them inside the tower that's just outside the bedroom window. We enjoyed fishing with a pole from the pier in the evening. We caught and released quite a few little fish. It was fun. The well-stocked kitchen and full size refrigerator made possible meal cooking. Marsha provided breakfast muffins. The sunflower decor throughout, inside and outside, brought smiles over and over. Sunflower Hideaway is a fun, pleasant adventure .... and, as such, it's romantic.

It you are into antiques and history, this isnt the place. If you want a great room with a view and hot tub to entertain your "guests", then Starlight is the best choice in the area, and a price you cant beat.
