I absolutely love ALA Gilbert North! I looked at several schools before choosing ALA and I am SO happy that I did. The teachers and faculty truly care about each students success and education. Not only is their curriculum top notch but they also teach students how to be respectful, have integrity and how to be accountable for themselves. They are teaching the students valuable lessons that will continue with each student as they press on toward their futures. If there was ever a concern with my child's education or his well being at the school it was quickly addressed and resolved. I am so thankful my child will continue to receive his education at ALA! In response to other comments, I would have to disagree with some. I am not rich and I am not Mormon and my son is treated equally along with others students who are religiously and culturally diverse. The students at ALA are sent home with a lot of homework as does any other charter school. I do not mind the amount of homework because as my son finishes this school year, he is already learning at the next grade level as well as his other classmates. My son may not be experiencing other issues within the school as he is still in elementary. I am a realist, at any school there will be bullying, there will be students who do not act appropriately, there will be students who will break the rules and bring inappropriate things to school ("vapes and drugs"). As this happens, students will make their own decisions on how to behave whether it be good or bad. I would love to know if there are ANY schools in the area who do not experience this, because even at a private religious school these things are going on. I know ALA has a ZERO tolerance policy and follows it. Hopefully other parents are realizing this and may consider speaking to their children more rather than blame the school for everything. As I stated before, I love ALA and their values. I will continue to enroll my child at this school despite the negative reviews. read more

Former ALA Gilbert North family. Read this before you enroll, especially if your child is a child of color. My son and another student of color, seventh graders fresh out of elementary school, were suspended over a soap dispenser broken by a white classmate. My son did not break it. The administration, with Ms. Huso at the center, pressured him until he falsely "confessed". His words to me afterward: "I just wanted to get it over with." Both students of color were suspended. The student who actually broke it faced no consequences. The suspension was reversed only after I threatened, in writing, to escalate. Principal Provonsha showed no leadership of his own at any point. In history class, Mr. Orlando had the only Black student act the part of a slave during the slavery lesson. The administration has no respect for a child's dignity: RAISE values on the wall, nothing behind them. We changed schools and got our peace of mind back. Ac is bad and uniforms ain't good. Most teachers don't teach and just sit behind a computer expecting us to learn the subject ourselves. Lunch I would totally not recommend. Lunch is so buns and it's pure goy slop. Made me feel horrible the whole day. It's all just pure junk food. PE class expects you to run outside at 120 degrees. read more

Absolutely awful experience going to this school! I was going to this school, and one of my PE teachers got so angry, that the PE teacher threw a hockey stick, hit someone, and threw a hockey puck and almost hit me (we were supposed to be doing floor hockey and the PE teacher was not fired from this and the office decided to hide it and to deny all of it). Another thing is that there is still no leadership coming from the students and staff. Another example of this is if you are not white or Mormon, you are going to feel like you are not included and everyone is going to shun you out. Also, my friend got targeted by the staff all because of him being Christian, not Mormon. He kicked something in the hallway accidentally, and it hit a teacher's foot, and then he had to go to Ms. Huso's office, when the teacher said that the thing that he accidentally kicked hit the teacher's head. Ms. Huso even looked at the footage of the camera's in the school, and it clearly showed that it didn't hit the teacher in the head. Yet, Ms. Huso thought so, so she gave him detention anyway. Most of the safety and discrimination concerns was because of Ms. Huso too, which she doesn't care about your safety if you aren't Mormon or white. My parents tried talking to her, and she tried to avoid everything that I've mentioned, and she doesn't care about your safety either. Although, the elementary school for ALA Gilbert North is incredible at putting safety first. If you are on the waitlist or you are trying to get into the highschool for ALA Gilbert North, it's not worth it. ALA Gilbert North Highschool needs to improve on caring more about student's safety no matter what race, or religion their in, which also makes me mention that the school needs to work on to have absolutely no discrimination that any student or staff should be dealing with in the first place. read more

The school is great if your Mormon, rich, and straight. I am a student it was 600 hundred dollars for a dual enrollment class. I do not know if this the normal. It's a 100 dollars for any elective, not to mention the fact that it is 3 dollars for a cosmic brownie in the cafeteria. Most of the food there is in some way concerning. Rather than fixing it they have icecream. I falling behind in classes because I can't have more than à day to grasp à new concept. The interior of the building feels depressing. In an already struggling economy ALA charges parents $5 plus $1.09 processing fee plus $3 fee to use a credit card to attend their son/daughter's choir concert. This school receives government funds like all other public schools and more, just look at the campus, and now lines their pockets by forcing parents to pay to watch their child's performance instead of using their money for groceries. Sickening. Mis allocated, corrupt administrators. Gilbert is full of corruption and it's now in the schools. read more

Students though can be racist, and WILL make you feel like an outcast if you are not white or Mormon. They will also make fun of kids that are in the LGBTQ+ community. Living next to this school is the absolute worst. You have 300 kids walking across the street, running around the Circle K parking lot asking to get hit, and it takes me about 20 minutes to figure out how to get into my neighborhood that is right next to the school. Traffic builds up for a mile north and south on Higley.. pure chaos. Hire a police officer to help or it looks a poor kid is going to end up getting killed out there. read more

My older daughter goes to ALA North Gilbert. In person, patriotic education, dedicated teachers, amazing admin. No WOKE indoctrination of any kind. Sports, dance, camaraderie. We don't live close by, but we will continue driving her because this school is worth it! read more

This Campus is amazing, the teachers my children have are outstanding. However, this morning i watched a staff member lock my son and another student out of the gate at student drop off and direct both children into oncoming traffic. When brought up to the prinicipal i got a load of excuses about being under staffed and advised its the district office's fault. Excellent school. Moving from the East coast, we found Arizona public schools lacking in student development and interested teachers and student control and discipline. ALA has been a great alternative for my Daughter. Great uniforms to teach appropriate business causal dress. Teachers care about their students and their subjects. When a teacher isn't performing they work to help the teacher improve. The facilities are beautiful and the elective selection extensive. read more

Love this school! The education is great and the staff is friendly and respectful. I like the fact that the kids wear uniforms to avoid having to reveal their social economic status. The atmosphere at ALA is a night and day difference from other school campuses that my other child had to attend. Although every school is not perfect ALA strives to do its best to enforce rules and consequences to the same exact epidemic that occurs in most schools across the nation. The high school that my other child graduated from was not good at enforcing rules and I can see tremendous positive difference at ALA. read more

Make sure you know what you are really getting into. They sure pulled the wool over our eyes. Don't believe the information on the website or what they tell you on the tour for the junior high/high school. Don't get mesmerized by the beautiful campus- that's the only thing it has going for it. We were promised Saxon math, concrete curriculums in core classes and received absolutely none of that. Math consisted of taking a few notes and doing worksheets. Science- what a joke. The teachers each choose whatever curriculum they want- more on that in the next paragraph. No history textbook, just random YouTube videos. The reality is: no textbooks for any of the classes for the kids to refer back to when studying (maybe spent too much on the building?). Worksheets and boring lectures that don't engage the students, a couple teachers irritated when students go in to ask for help or clarify an assignment, and cell phone use in the classrooms was our experience. "Teachers" that have never taught before but are highly skilled in their area of teaching which translates to: no control over the classroom, with no set curriculum they don't know how to deliver a grade level appropriate lecture or test, and administration just says "we're working with them" and "the kids are so lucky to be learning from them". I assure you that having your child as a guinea pig while they are learning to teach is not lucky. We had one teacher lose children's homework, including my own child, and even lost one student's test. I could go on and on about that one teacher alone, but that one teacher is not the point, it was the entire (non) educational and highly frustrating experience. Over promise and deliver absolutely nothing. We lasted just shy of one quarter, so disappointing as we had high hopes for this school. read more

ALA is amongst the better grades schools in Arizona. If you're looking for an alternative to the Public School system, ALA is a wonderful option. I have one special needs child and one child in honors - both are attending ALA High. We're not Mormon or rich (comments probably made by those trying to shut down or remove funding for Charter schools) and my children are very accepted by the other students. Uniforms reduce drama and inappropriate attire often witnessed in the public high schools (no booty shorts, pants hanging off their rears, or ripped up jeans). The campus is absolutely gorgeous and the kids are not "caged in" - I don't feel like I'm sending my kids to prison when I drop them off in the morning. Teachers seem willing and eager to help each student that is willing to learn and grown. The curriculum is top notch and there is a strong emphasis on respect, integrity, and accountability. read more
