The tea sandwiches and small desserts were delicious. Tea, coffee, soda and wine were also available. The third floor parlor had plenty of room for 6-7 tables. It was easy to hear the speaker. The venue is impeccably clean.

A single, small elevator--furnished with a small love-seat bench, which seemed slightly unnecessary and space-stealing for the limited number of floors housed in The Acorn Club--brought us to the second floor and its dining room. The Acorn Club's dining room is absolutely beautiful: especially the blue, damask wallpaper and the glittering chandeliers and wall sconces. The table seats and cloth napkins (both shades of dusky rose) were luxurious to the touch and the table settings were impeccable. Food-wise, the appetizer and dessert stole the show. The butternut squash soup was piping hot, creamy, and delicious--very similar to the version my mother makes for holidays. And the chocolate-and-vanilla mousse garnished with milk and white chocolate shavings was perfect (as was the almond lace cookie I may have also sampled). Meanwhile, the main course of (dry) chicken and (overdressed) salad was only so-so. Service-wise, the servers was a little surlier than you might expect in that setting, but for one of my fellow diners a polite and slightly apologetic response for putting her water glass too far to the center of the table seemed to break the ice enough to allow the server to seem less resentful. We left wondering how one becomes a member of this Club. Unfortunately the website still leaves us wondering.

The building is huge, elegant, and so striking to be inside, with a grand historic feel and remarkable detail at every turn. What truly stood out, though, was the artwork. There were beautiful, old, and impressive pieces everywhere, including portraits by Sully and Marchant, which made the entire place feel part museum, part event venue, and wholly unforgettable. It is such a unique setting for a wedding and easily one of the most stunning venues I have visited in years.

They have an after hours license that comes in handy because the 4 guys who are always there are probably homeless. They also allow smoking. Saw a local band there on 1/10/09 and it was a blast. Lots of local jtown people, lots of drinking and lots of bad dancing to great live music. The bar tender was between the ages of 12 and 14. Must be a member of the family that owns it. Very unique place and worth going in.

That cosmic intervention finally happened for myself in the form of an invite to lunch by a friend of mine, and I was very excited about finally set my eyes upon the storied club. Following the exciting and quite long elevator ride to the top, I was surprised by how empty it was for lunch, but that only increased the appeal as it felt very exclusive and quiet. Let me start with that the food was good; very good in fact, but nothing special or to write home about. What really makes the place shine is the views, the feeling of exclusivity, and the staff. The staff is the real highlight and plays into every aspect of a great time here. You are treated as an honored guest from the minute you arrive until the minute you leave, and it is amplified if you are someone's guest they really put the effort in to treat everyone with the utmost respect and make the dining and relaxation experience at the price point that I am sure the members are paying for the opportunity. The views of the city are wonderful. Having worked a job that allowed me access to the roofs of nearly every high rise in the city, I have seen every angle and panorama of Philadelphia from up high, but the windowed seat views of the entire city while dining here are unparalleled. It is nothing if not the biggest selling point of the experience. I would love to return to see the view at night, but I don't think I will likely ever have that opportunity. If you have the luck of being invited here or given a chance at membership, check it out. It's one of the most unique places to eat in Market st financial area, and you won't regret it.

The table mates were personable and everyone was in a good mood and our anticipation of what was to come next was met with slight disappointment at the lack of ambiance provided. Although I was hoping to have some lighting..it was bright and although you had masks...it was hard not to see different images as they approached the table. The good: the food and drinks were satisfying. The bad: long time lags in between courses. It was a fun time because wherever I go..I'm gonna have a 'good time'...but I wish this event rose to the level of delivering on what was advertised!

This is our second year of purchasing a share from Pennypack's CSA and we have yet to be…read moredisappointed. The quality of the produce is excellent and the thought and care put into the farm is unmatched. While they are not certified organic, they practice natural, practical, and ecologically sound and sustainable farming. They have a lot of signage posted throughout the farm (as part of their education program) that explains how and why things are they way they are at the farm. They also have a boatload of dedicated volunteers and workers who keep everything running efficiently. They are happy to answer questions about the farm, the food, and often have ideas about what to do with everything. We purchased the small share and that entitles us to 6 items chosen by us from the options available that day. Last night we chose a pound of carrots, a head of lettuce, two pounds of summer squash, beets, swiss chard, and two pounds of cucumbers. Other items available include kale, bok choy, scallions, and broccoli as well as pick your own string beans and raspberries. They have an extensive herb garden where you can pick your own herbs for cooking that week. Finally, you can cut a bunch of flowers to take with you each week as a part of your share as well. This year we split our share with another family, so we go every other week for our pick up -- as a family of just two, this works out well for us! While the benefits are many (supporting local agriculture, eating local, sustainable food, health, getting outside in a garden), the CSA is a little bit of work. Each share requires a few hours of volunteer work be completed at the farm. Furthermore, when you get home with your pile of veggies, you need to clean and prep them as well as figure out recipes. They leave the vegetables generally intact with the greens and such on top. It turns out you can and should use those parts of the vegetables as well, but if you're a novice (like us) it takes some research and planning to figure out what to do with things like carrot tops and beet and turnip greens. Even though it's a lot of work, it's a fun learning experience and would definitely be a worthwhile activity to get the kids involved with. Usually I end up with a bunch of veggies I can't use, but at Pennypack, I get to choose what we take home. There are also many "freebies" each week because the farm is so prolific! Great spot and we are joining again next year!
