This is such a wonderful institution that helps so many vets. Today is cheeseburger Saturday.

Disclaimer: I cook (volunteer work) at the American Legion twice a month. This is a long due review. Most of ALR post are closed to public however Vista post is opened to public when food is served (which is pretty much every day for dinner and every sunday morning for breakfast). You can have dinner there for about $8 every evneing (menus are available on their website and are updated weekly). The big plus is their sunday breakfasts. Traditional breakfasts for $4.50 (2 eggs cooked to order, toasts, bacon or sausage and potatoes) for example, but there are many other options and always one special. My favorite special is the Machacca grill served the 2nd week-end of each month. Cheap drinks and super friendly bartender. This place is very clean. You'll also get to know some amazing local patrons!

Every Friday evening is steak night. Great place to hang out and enjoy an evening eating steak, dinner and hanging out with friends.

Pool Table, Shuffleboard Table and more. Full bar too.

Spent time with brothers to celebrate another brothers 60th at the facility, the weekend before Veterans Day and just one day before a Corps birthday dinner to be held at the same facility. We were accommodated and had plenty of support from the house. Great place to hold a birthday party and cater it to your desire via your own sources. The post is making meals now for patrons. Sandwiches, soups etc. during the week. Kitchen was ready for inspection. Clean. Outdoor area for smokers and there's a BBQ area. Great set up. We tried the clam chowder Friday when we were recon and prepping. It was good, but I wasn't used to "corn clam chowder". It was taste worthy though, very good and fit for consumption. Playing shuffle board was a kick. Needs a system to display points though. Pool table on site too. The best for last......the bar staff......simply the best...much love to the "beautiful Scot". She was absolutely steadfast and awesome. Not forgetting to mention the house support staff that was on site helping to keep things running smooth. Thanks much to American Legion Post 365 Also the location where the Vista VFW now holds meetings etc.

The American Legion Post 365 is the place to be on Tuesday and Friday nights (5:30-7:30) for their awesome steak dinners ( plus other foods ) . The prices are amazing and the camaraderie is evident. Their dinner nights are open to the public so don't be shy. Come and join in the fun.

    Karaoke at it's best!!

From my very first day, it was clear that this organization is guided by a deep commitment to transforming lives, not just meeting temporary needs. Their mission--to permanently solve family homelessness through accountability, empowerment, and opportunity--is not just a statement on paper. It is lived out in every conversation, every program, and every interaction I witnessed. What sets Solutions for Change apart is their unwavering belief in the potential of every individual. Their values of leadership, responsibility, community, and long-term transformation shine through in the way they support families. Instead of offering quick fixes, they focus on equipping people with the tools, skills, and confidence to rebuild their lives in a sustainable way. This approach doesn't just change circumstances--it changes futures. As a volunteer, I felt valued and included in a mission much bigger than myself. The staff leads with compassion and clarity, always emphasizing dignity and empowerment. Watching parents take bold steps toward stability and seeing children thrive in a safe, supportive environment reminded me that real change happens when people are given both hope and responsibility. My time at Solutions for Change strengthened my belief that lasting transformation is possible when an organization listens deeply, leads boldly, and works alongside the people they serve. I'm grateful to have played even a small part in their mission and would encourage anyone seeking a meaningful volunteer experience to get involved. This is truly a place where change is not only possible--it's happening every day

I wish I could give more than 5 stars!…read more I have been patient in looking to add a kitten/cat to our family and stumbled across Marigold on a fosters Instagram page which prompted me to submit an application. Kat reached out the very next day after reviewing our application and pre approved us. Yelena reached out for all coordination afterwards. Marigold was not even posted on the rescues page but they were so kind and were able to get us in to meet her. The foster mom (and dad) were wonderful and have been doing this for so long (60+ kitties). We instantly fell in love with Marigold and were able to be selected to adopt her (pat on our back for being able to provide a good home). She came from a hoarder home and was lucky to survive from malnutrition. We came back to get her after getting she completed her shots/spayed. Not even 24 hours in, my one year old tabby loves her and she is settling in perfectly. I will say I have had not so great experiences with other rescues in the area and Dirty Little Paws surpassed all expectations! I hope one day I can repay them and foster another baby in need.

It's a cute, small farm right across from the San Diego Botanic Garden with easy parking right out front. They have miniature ponies, goats, a pig, rabbits, chickens and quail. The experience was very hands-on the kids fed the animals lettuce and Cheerios, brushed the ponies, went inside the rabbit enclosures, and got to interact with the pig and chickens outside their pens. They also had painting activities, a super cute mud kitchen with bubbles and utensils, and ended with fresh fruit in the shade and story time. Just wholesome, messy toddler fun! The instructor was great with the kids--laid-back, friendly and informative. I think the Monday morning session is especially perfect for kids under 4. We drove up from Chula Vista, so I'm not sure I'd make the drive specifically to do the same session again, but it was absolutely worth experiencing once for $40 and we had a great time!
