I refuted the credit card charge and the owner himself called me to find out what was up. I told him the story and he was more than understanding. He truly cares about his business. He asked if I would cancel the refuted charge and would send me a check in the mail or even offered to meet me and give it to me in person. I received the check when he said it would be there. I am a huge fan of the owner. The 4 stars was only because I'm a little wary of ever dealing with Rick again. I was locked out and unable to get in here in Monterey when the weather is cloudy and cold and tried calling every locksmith around and even when I first called American Lock and key they said it could be a few hours and I am sitting outside cold ...no bathroom, nothing on but a small robe and yet I had to take what they could offer.... I hung up expecting to have to wait a couple hours when I got a call from the tech saying he was on his way and would be here in 15 minuets!!!!! I wanted to cry I was so happy and grateful he got here and had me in my house in no time!!! We asked the locksmith to come, he told us it would be 3 hours, unlike their 15-30 minute promise. He then never showed up! I would NEVER use or rely on these people! I wish I could give a better rating to this company. I really had wished things worked out between the two of us. I was referred to this company by several friends. All said great things about the company. Well some said it was the only lock & key place in town. But I did receive a couple great reviews from friends. Anyway, my first experience with American Lock & Key, I went in to their office in Seaside. I started talking with the gentlemen up front. Everything was going great until I told him the reason for my visit. I own a 6 unit apt building and was hoping to get it on a master lock key system He laughed at me and told me not to waste my time... I'm confused. Is my money not green enough? I politely dismissed myself and hired another company to complete it. My second experience was not as bad but the main reason for my review today. I decided to give them another chance when one of my tenants had a lock out. I called them and asked to meet me at the property in two days at 1pm. I show up early and am cleaning up the property. 1pm comes and goes and no one is there. I am busy so I excuse the tardiness and continue to clean up. I look up at my watch again and it's now 1:30. I call in to the office and the man who answered is very gruff. He tells me someone will be right over. I wait around another hour and finally someone showed and handled the lock out .Unprofessional the whole way through. Somehow managed to break the key off in my ignition on a Thursday afternoon, and was supposed to leave town the next day. Called the dealership and they gave me a quick estimate of $350 to fix it (are you kidding me?!). Called American Lock and Key and they told me to come right down and they could fix it. Couldn't give me a price but gave me their hourly rate which was reasonable. The nice young man that helped me had the broken piece out of the ignition in 2 minutes and they only charged me $5!!! Awesome service! Very knowledgable (I asked about why it broke and if they thought I had an ignition problem). They didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need which is always nice. I went hiking in Point Lobos and locked my keys in the car. I called these guys and some dude came down lickity split and opened my car. Not too pricy, and he was really nice. He didn't look like a creepy hillbilly, and he made me feel comfortable, even though it was dark and I was on the side of the road. Later in the week I went in and they made me a copy of my car key. He was very professional, explained some tips about keeping locks functional in the salty sea air, how to lube them properly (no more graphite!).
