AMR is a rip off. My daughter was transported from the accident site to the nearest hospital which was 1.2 miles in distance. I thought everything was covered and paid for by my insurance. A year later i get a bill and claim they are out of network and that I need to pay the remaining balance in full. Which is wild to me as my husband was airlifted two years ago and that bill was over 90K and that company accepted the insurance payment and I only had to pay my co pay. They randomly select people to send fraudulant bills to. Then send people to collections. I have never heard of this company. Somehow they got my name and info and said i owe 1000 to them. Then I have been in contact with them over a 3 month period and its still not resolved. They stated they needed additional 2 weeks. With no phone call up updates on progress. You could tell a certified, maybe experienced medic was desired yet management wants to cut costs and paying two kids with their 4 month ERT cert can work as long as a "doc" rides along. LACO needs to can AMR. It's borderline civil loss. Blacked out after a Covid booster. Went down eight stairs. Response was solid. 15 minutes later dropped at the ER. Repartition came today via letter. My insurance didn't cover the desired amount and I was to be sent to collections as a result. Called the Philippines to try and straighten it out. Uh, yeah...no go. Got the invoice today. 15 minute Code three ride, paying the medics 20 an hour tops....$2900. Insurance paid $2730. AMR with zero prac app, third party non American billing was going to send me to collections for $170. Word to the patriotic, caring, wise. Take an Uber and give the medic a c note upon arrival. They were called by manager at a particular department store as I felt very faint. They came in the store's break room to attend to me. I told the emt I needed my wife she coming, but they hauled me off anyway. To make a long story short I was wrongly billed, and even though I was feeling better,maybe 10 minutes after they arrived. They gave me a paper to sign telling me it's for release form. Not a true explanation. So much was happening, so I was caught off guard. That's wife I needed my wife. AMR SUCKS - Horrible and incompetent billing department. I received an invoice for services in the amount of $2,112.14, so I paid the invoice on Nov 2, 2021. (All good so far!) AMR then sends me a refund on Nov 11. For $990.33 I receive another invoice for $1,204.00 and I pay that invoice on Nov 18, 2021. AMR then sends me another refund on Nov 23, 2021, for $1,204.00. AMR then sends me another bill so I attempt to call them on Dec 12, again on Dec 15, and then 3 times on Dec 22 trying to resolve this. (India call tree where they keep dropping me) I finally get through and they are unable to process my payment. Today (12/29) I attempt one last time to pay and am informed my account has been sent to collections. (This is especially nice to deal with when your spouse has become paralyzed) read more

I was taken from hospital to acute nursing facility following surgery on Jan 5, 2022. Driver neglected getting Certificate from hospital with the Drs order, so Medicare would not pay the bill, because of the inaccurate date they billed for and missing the Certificate. I called Medicare and was told to have them resubmit with the proper paperwork, and they would not have to even appeal, Medicare will pay it. American Ambulance refused to do that, saying "That's not our policy." Now they hound me every single week for payment when they are the ones who screwed this up royally. Praise God for the rapid response by the St. Bernardine Hospital Emergency Room team, who resuscitated my sister after her heart stopped for nearly twenty phucking minutes! American Medical Response does not value the life of San Bernardino residents and must be replaced by a reliable emergency transportation provider immediately. Giving an excuse of being short-staffed means the CEO must get off their lazy ass and fill the post. Other reviewers within the last year have expressed similar experiences suggesting TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, UNCOOPERATIVE, and THANKLESS. San Bernardino is a vulnerable community and should not be subjected to AMR's lack of operational efficiency resulting in no-show excuses rendering their quality of services unreliable thus useless. How many lives have been lost to AMR's careless neglect!? While my sister is recovering, your loved one in the event of an emergency may not be as fortunate. I will be writing to St. Bernardine Hospital to request the cancellation of their contract with AMR, as well as the licensing agency that oversees emergency transportation services in California. In addition, the Mayor of San Bernardino, the City Council, and community stakeholder groups, as all resident lives, are at risk by this poor excuse of a company. The EMTs are awesome, super nice and very competent. The company itself is not. They keep billing my parents the wrong amount. My folks insurance company has called AMR several times explaining the contract benefit and AMR customer service says yes let us fix this, call back in 2 weeks. We've been doing this song and dance since December 2023. The bill keeps coming wrong. No one seems to be able to fix this issue and it is very annoying. Took 2 rides to ER in one week. Being on SSI and a large copay I have been only able to pay off one a year. $325 a pop is a lot of money. I owe a second one but they seem to enjoy harassing me over $325. I asked for us mailed application for extra help with this. They continue to send it through an email which I have no way of printing out. Don't know the first thing about it and I told him this. But yet they still insist on sending me threatening letters with bills saying they're going to go to collection. Shame on you people. I understand I have more money than you. My mother was taken by AMR from the hospital to Rehab after a hospital stay for covid and kidney failure which almost killed her. She was unable to ambulate so I could not take her. The hospital arranged transport as mom could not ambulate and needed rehab. After 10 months I heard from AMR that Medicare or the supplement did not cover the $1300 plus trip. I called to get information to help me appeal the medicare decision and was met with.....well.....no help at all!! Medicare requires info from the provider for the appeal and I could get no help. I called and emailed and was transferred all over the place. This company will not be helpful if your claim is denied. I work in medicine and we assist patients every day to see that they get their proper benefits. SHAME!!! First of all, the actual ambulance care was O.K. and they got me to the hospital. That's the good part. Unfortunately, as others have said, the billing is another issue. This lot could easily give Jesse James a run for his money. My husband did some calculations and worked out that, per mile, the journey they took me on was more expensive than chartering a whole Concorde would have been when it was operating. Let me see, a supersonic, 100 seat airliner or a glorified van with some flashing lights on it? You simply shouldn't have to question the 911 operator as to whether, with the insurance you have, you're getting a life-saving emergency response or a mobile mugging machine that would embarrass a 1980s New York subway criminal. We were fortunate that United Healthcare, our insurance company, stepped up to the plate and paid the bill otherwise we would have been stuck with a large balance bill as others have. The classic "not gonna wait for the green arrow so I'll cross those pretty double yellow lines to go through that other side left turn lane, weasle her way through MY DIRECTION traffic coming to their/ our red light to just JUMP OUT OF "WHERE THE HELL DID THAT COME FROM" nowhere to give me the 58ft distance of stopping, going 41mph on a 900 pound + Harley Davidson. Enough about me... I think her name might have been "Jessica". Very very awesome, personal, caring and helpful. In my state of no Air in me from being knocked out of me by a little, cute "suv" looking things passenger front door and going in and out of consciousness a little bit, I was able to give her my wife's phone number so she could make the call. She even checked up on me a few hours later at the trauma unit at riverside. Another emt there is "Tom" or Tommy, maybe. Professional but Jessica is cuter! So this novel is to say yeah, the price is crazy rediculousness to have 2 professionals medically care for you in Moment of life is an absolute crisis to you and, very possibly, YOUR LIFE. I'd rate AMR -10 if possible. I used them to get my wheelchair bound Mom to and from her MD's office, paid in full advance with my CC, thankfully printed their receipt & confirmation # and then got a bill for exactly the amount I'd prepaid. Billing clerks in boiler rooms speaking broken English kept saying they "could not find the payment in their system" and after I told them it was prepaid, they sent me an email apologizing for the inconvenience, but they still couldn't find the payment and needed additional proof from me, and "in the meantime, the balance remains your responsibility." I never delete old emails, and I was able to find another receipt they'd sent. I that too and they finally stopped hounding me. Anybody that needs an ambulance already has a hard life. AMR will make it that much harder because of their incompetence and not think one thing of it. Don't EVER use AMR if there is any alternative. I use a limo company that costs more per trip, but it's infinitely more preferable than dealing with AMR's morons on parade billing department. This company practices surprise billings also known as balance billing. They claim they can charge you for the difference between what your insurance pays then charges you for the rest of their bill. NOT SO FAST! it is illegal to do that if you are on Medicare and also if you live in California and you use Medical. California is one of over 25 states in the U.S that has passed this law. I am a retiree that has Medicare A,B,C. AMERICAN MEDICAL RESPONSE ambulace in California is charging me the difference. I think this Business needs both a Federal Lawsuit and I am going to contact The California State Attorney Generals office first. Then MEDICARE. I think they could use a class action lawsuit. American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance picked me up one October 2020 night due to COVID complications. A month later, AMR rightfully invoiced me $2,056.11 for their service. I gratefully gave them a call and provided my health care insurance information, even though I had provided it to the EMT that drove me to the ER during the event. The following month, American Medical Response got paid for their service, according to my health insurance office. Two months later, AMR invoiced me again; so I put them on a conference call with my health care provider accounting office hoping to clarify the situation; during the call, it was confirmed that the $2,056.11 invoice had been paid in full. But AMR continues to invoice me to this day. I have pleaded my case to a Bryan, an Alice and other AMR employees to no avail, they are all nice and polite. But no amount of explanation seems to satisfy their billing office. In addition, to avoid having to repeat the entire story every time I call, I have kept conversation reference #s for every single conversation with them. But those references don't work because there is no continuity. So every phone is standalone. After this many calls, seems apparent that AMR just wants to collect again , and who knows if AMR will stop re-invoicing me if we pay them a second or a third time. I firmly believe that AMR is well aware that their "erroneous" billing practices are actually intentional. I've come to that conclusion because they don't have an answer for their repeated invoicing. Regardless, I'm not in a position to pay them again. I'm retired and cannot pay twice for an invoice that has already been tendered. Besides, that's what health insurance is for. I'm cognizant that, during an emergency, there is no time to review an ambulance company. But for whatever it's worth, I give them one star because they transported me to the hospital when I need it. I had to be transported from one hospital to another. It was MAYBE 8 miles. Bill: over 2000 because my insurance didn't use this service. I make a payment plan where I pay $160 a month by the 19th. All was good then when my bill was down $1000 all the sudden I started getting late notices and credit reporting letters. I haven't missed a payment. Be careful if you have to be transported. AMR provided ambulance service between Scripps facilities in January, 2023. I received a bill for $315.22 approximately June or July, 2023 and. promptly paid it. I received another bill from AMR for the same amount several months later for the same amount and paid it as well. No receipts were issued, and no AMR billing provided date of service. In October 2023 I again received an AMR bill for the same $315.22 and called AMR's billing and collection sub contractor, which is a Philippine based service. On calling this service and providing the billing ID, I was told that I was due an overpayment of $315.22 and to disregard the October billing. However, the service could not tell me when I could expect the overpayment. On insisting of speaking with a supervisor, I was told to wait 3-5 business days. My concern is for a potentially damaged credit rating if AMR's billing policies are so incompetent that my October billing will be carried as a receivable despite AMR's Philippine agent informing me to disregard the erroneous October billing It is apparent that either AMR is running a collection scam or is wholly incompetent. It is begging for a small claims filing or a filing in Superior Court for fraud and punitive damages. read more

Two thumbs down to AMR for being unwilling to correct the billing of our service. This looks like a real racket. A Costly one. You should know about this before you go to the hospital. Wish we had. SCL Health ER of Thornton in league with AMR appears to have totally scammed my husband. He went to SCL Health ER for a medical emergency, dizzy as hell, and they found something in his BRAIN and decided they had to immediately transfer him to a hospital who could do an MRI. No messing around. The ER doctor strongly advised him to take the Ambulance (AMR) and he called one to go right away. Yet then upon being questioned he admitted we "could" drive him to the hospital but reiterated how inadvisable that was. So we gave in and took the ambulance. Well guess what. If you then take the ambulance , AMR will nevertheless bill it to the insurance company as just a random transport, not any kind of emergency. Never mind that no one knows yet what is in your brain and whether it might KILL you and that you may be mortally at risk. And because it is NOT billed as the emergency as you think you are still in, then it is NOT covered by Medicare. WTF! We are wondering why in the hell they would do this. (a) if we didn't really need an ambulance, why is the ER doctor pushing this, does AMR give them a kickback? What? (b) if it is part of an emergency as we were led to believe, and should be by ambulance, then why is AMR billing it so as not to be covered? Well, MAYBE it's because they don't like how much Medicare pays. See, AMR then gets to bill us for the FULL amount which was EXPENSIVE!!! instead of the contractual amount Medicare would pay if it were "covered". Because the tiny little caveate is that despite the ER Dr's urging you go by ambulance immediately, he also quietly did note that you could drive the person over. And that should have alerted us that we were about to be taken. AND NOW... Guess what else? If you call to try to fix this, the department at the ambulance company AMR you would have to talk to, will not answer your calls!! We know, because we tried. Unless you call to arrange payment, they don't even talk to you. You can leave a message of course. But you will not get called back. And of course, the hospital doesn't speak for the doctor who pressed you to take an ambulance right after telling you something is in your brain that requires immediate hospitalization. They are all contractors these days, ya know. NO one is answerable. Yeah, it's a racket. Don't take the ambulance unless you are dying on the spot. read more

The Rehab center used them to transport my mother who was in a wheel, she was in a wheelchair after a broken hip, she had to gop for a follow up visit to a doctors Appt, 26 mile round trip, they charged over $600 for a wheelchair van. They told me sorry that is what we charge. After the fact, I call around and was quoted about 80% less by another Company. DO NOT used them unless you have money to waste. read more
