We had to move a family member's possessions after they passed away and were on a tight timeline right before Christmas. These guys moved me in April of 2017. Professional movers wrap the furniture in blankets and plastic to keep it protected and dry. Professional movers also take care of the lamps. These guys had no blankets, no cardboard, no plastic and they complained at me b/c my lamps were not packed. Then they left items at my old house. (The new owner had to call me to come get them.) I bought pizza for the American Moving crew. After they left I found pizza crusts thrown into my yard and other trash from food they had eaten. In all - they worked fast, but were unprepared to do a professional move (no supplies) and they left my brand new yard strewn with trash. Ug. Call some other company! read more

I've been using this storage for a year now and they are always very helpful and pleasant. The location is nice, and it's easy to get in and out of. I originally used them to move after they were recommended to me and I could not have asked for an easier move! DO NOT USE, DO NOT EVEN TRY! I'll keep it as short as possible, the crew arrived perfectly on time; however, everything after that went downhill. I scheduled & paid for a Pack & Move but they arrived without any boxes, wrap, tape...no supplies at all! They said they were going to wrap both of my couches (light colored fabric), I had to buy and provided the plastic wrap, tape and boxes to use. They put a hole in the wall while moving and did not tell me, I found it later that night. The items were being delivered to an inside storage unit so since there wasn't much space I stayed outside while they were loading the unit. When I walked into the unit after they finished couch pillows were thrown into the unit, pillows just all over the place, my comforter is laid out on the floor with my couch unwrapped standing on the side of the armrest, with dirty boxes sitting on top of that. The clean couch now has black dirt stains all over it. Pillows dirty and torn, vanity mirror leg broken and thrown to the side so we would not see it. The legs to the couch are missing, the other smaller couch is unwrapped and pilled with dirty unstable boxes. Drawers damaged and nicked, dressers unbalance because the feet were damaged...the list truly goes on. I've only summarized about 40% of the damage and money loss this company created. Just do not use, that's my best advice. read more

I'm going to leave positive and negative comments. Positive note movers were very efficient and friendly. They wrapped everything down to the kitchen table and chairs. Moved a 2 bedroom apartment and unloaded in about 4 1/2 hours. On a negative note, they ruined my desk that I use for working from home. When I called to complain the manager did come to look at it but did not agree to reimburse for any damages. Granted it was a pressed board desk, but they just tore the top off and then propped it up in the corner of my room like it was all put together . It was not and the screws were not able to be put back in. If someone would've asked all they had to do was undo a couple of screws to get it in two pieces. Now on top of all the other moving expenses, I have to buy a new desk. read more

I made a reservation to use American Moving in Richmond Virginia two months prior to my move date on a Saturday in August, knowing that August is prime moving season and dates book up fast. I confirmed two weeks prior and a week prior to the move date, to ensure there would be no issues when it came time to move. The company called me on Thursday prior to my move confirming "we will be there at 8am Saturday". On Friday morning at 10:30, they call me explaining the truck has broken and there is nothing they can do to help me move. I asked if there was another truck? - No. Can I rent a truck and use your men? - No. Another date? - uncertain when the truck will be back up and running, so not for now. Is there anything you can do for me? - No. So less than 24 hours prior to my move, my movers entirely cancel, leaving me without a truck, movers or a plan. Thankfully I was able to find another moving company with availability to help with my move, but I will never use American Moving again, this process has been frustrating and unprofessional. read more

This Company moved me from Rivermont Ave to Long Meadows Dr, in Lynchburg, VA a few years ago. It was a disaster. When all was said and done I had two stand fans broken, an electric screwdriver that no longer had a reverse, a Casio calculator that no longer worked. They set up a bed without checking to see where I wanted it to go and then in the process, using my electric screwdriver, split one center post (platform bed). I was also using my vehicle to pack up a few times and it was while I was on these couple of short trips that the damage was occurring. They were very careless with my household items. They had piled the items on top of other items. I could tell once they were gone and I began putting items away that I noticed the damages. I am disabled so it took me many months to go thru my items. I finally made a list, but it was well past the time to contact them concerning the damages. OUTSTANDING!! My girlfriend moved from a townhouse to a 2nd story apartment. It was Saturday and it was HOT! Bruce, Cory, and Dylan were great from beginning to end. They had stairs to contend with on both ends of the move. They never once complained. The were were kind, courteous, and very polite throughout the entire process, and they worked their butts off. We were recently moving out of our large home and downsizing into a smaller place. We had a ton of stuff and knew it would take forever to try and do it ourselves, so we hired movers for the first time ever. We were wary of the process since it was so unfamiliar. Having strangers in your home handling everything that you own is a nerve-racking process. I cannot say enough positive things about this company, and the three movers that helped us - Derrick, Sydney, and Kevin. These gentlemen arrived early, warmly introduced themselves, and quickly learned our names. They were not put off by the amount of things we had to move, or our lack of organization (haha). They instantly got to work, and never slowed down from 9 AM to 5 PM, aside from a 30 minute lunch break which we were not charged for. There was no breaks or time wasting of any kind. We honestly couldn't believe that it was physically possible for these guys to keep up the pace they were at for that long, and with such great attitudes, in the August heat no less. They were careful and respectful of our things, and professional the entire time. They eased our worries and made the process so much easier for us. We were so impressed & it was worth every penny to hire them. Unfortunately, in today's world it is rare to see someone do their job so well without complaining or slacking, and these guys proved there are still hard workers out there! Thanks again! read more

Moved from Lynchburg to Chesapeake, VA. I had high hopes for this company since they offered us a 10% military discount. I have moved before and typically all of the furniture gets wrapped in plastic wrap whether it needs it or not--most companies do it to prevent scratches and it works very well. The crew that loaded everything was very friendly and went over the paperwork well. However, they didn't wrap ANY of my furniture (fragile or not) with plastic wrap or pads. When the truck arrived and a different crew was unloading, my desk was shattered because it wasn't padded at all--it was just wedged between other items, there were deep scratches on several solid wood items including our dining room table. With all of that being said, I am rating this company with 3/5 stars because when I spoke with the owner about getting reimbursed for the damages he was very understanding and worked with us to properly compensate us for our losses. Customer service was great the entire time but the training of the crew on packing items properly and making sure everything gets wrapped definitely needs to improve. Would have rated this much lower had we not been well-compensated. read more

Phenomenal job!!! We had furniture moved from my Dad's house in Lynchburg to our new home in Ashburn, VA. They gave us a highly competitive quote. They advised that they would arrive at my father's house at 8 and our house by 1. I thought that was overly ambitious but indeed they did! They didn't even take a break. This company moved me to NC, and I got down there and they charged me another $75 which wasn't a problem. The issue is when I did a search on the company I couldn't find any information on if they could even legally move me out of state or even in state. I contacted them to talk about it, the guy that answered was very rude, and said that they had all the correct licenses. They advertise as "climate-controlled" storage, but I have seen the humidity in their units get as high as 76%!!!! It was more humid INSIDE the unit than it was outside! I only dealt with their storage facilities, so this has nothing to do with their moving business. With that said, I am stunned by how poorly-managed their humidity and temperature control is-- very amateurish. If you were to leave paper materials, photographs, etc in this kind of allegedly "climate-controlled" space for long, they would be ruined. I strongly recommend going elsewhere. read more

Available on a Sunday with less than 2 weeks notice, they arrived on time, went right to work, and got it all moved in one trip (from a small house on one side of Lynchburg to another small house on the other side). Troy and Greg were pleasant, professional, and tackled the big items (like the full-size chest freezer) as if it was no big deal... And the cost was much better than expected. I am responding and disputing the post by Jeremy the owner. He is a complete liar. Anyone who has ever filed a complaint with BBB knows they do not "side" with a business. They made an attempt to resolve the issues but Jeremy refused to take responsibility for his actions of mistteatment of his client and his crew. One of his men had an accident on the return trip to Lynchburg because Jeremy was too cheap to pay for lodging after his crew worked from 7 am to 12:45 pm and then drove 200 miles home. He is so dishonest that he had someone write a review under Sunburst Storage which is related to his business and Yelp suspected it was inappropriate. Just because he works for the community does not make him an honest and fair business owner. I would not recommend his company to anyone and I recommend that you search for several movers in the area, interview them, get a quote in writing and document everything. read more
