I had a garage door opener installed 3.5 years ago by a friend of a friend. From day one it sounded like a rocket taking off. The worst part-? it was directly under my bedroom. So when the kids came in after I had gone to sleep, the garage woke me up EVERYTIME. So I called American Overhead Doors. The reviews were great. Many spoke about Sammy. Guess who came to my house? SAMMY!!! He spoke about trying to fix what I had. It was a chain driven unit. I said please get rid of it and start from scratch. The entire old unit went away and a brand new, state of the art unit was installed. Not only was it installed in a timely fashion, the area was all cleaned up and all of my old parts went away! My keypad was reprogrammed, as were my old "clickers". He installed a new pad inside the garage that has a motion sensor. Plus the lights inside he motor illuminate my entire garage. Everyone from Roger who quoted me to Jackie the installer as well as the office staff I called a few times were Excellent! One of our two garage doors would not close properly. Called American Overhead Doors (the original installer on our house), they were able to send out a technician within a couple of days. Troy arrived at the appointment time and was able to diagnose the issue promptly, corrected the issue and preformed a "routine service" on both our overhead doors. Additionally, he educated me on proper maintenance , which I was ignorant about. Very pleased with the service call, education, and problem solving that we received. A++. Had an American Overhead Door install a few years ago. A few days ago it would not close. Called and a friendly, competent service person came out and in less than a minute adjusted the sensor so it worked without trouble. The charge for his call was $175. Yes, he had to travel to my garage, and yes he knew what to do, but really, think that was excessive. [Oh, think he felt bad also. He gave me a spray can of lubricant.] read more

On March 28th I had a service call to attach a bracket with two screws that came out of the wall. The serviceman went to put the electric plug in and the ground in the plug came out. The service gentlemen said the call was $175.00 and wanted a check which I gave him. He said he could not repair it cause it was electrical and would have someone call me. After making 4 calls the manager told me I needed a new motor and the $175.would be applied to the new motor for $475.00 poor business all I needed was a plug and that cost me $13.00 with shipping. I purchased a Genie garage door opener w/ extension for our 90" tall door. The first technician from AOD had no idea how to install it. The next day, they sent Sammy to properly install it. Sammy in 45 minutes had the door up and running smooth. Would I use AOD again? Yes but I would specifically ask for Sammy to do the job. read more

Overall terrible experience. Over priced and not accountable for their work. They were suppossed to call when they were on their way, as i was down the road at my office. Didnt receive a phone call, just showed up. Service call was to fix a spring on the garage door. Motor for the door was working properly when they showed up. Was told after they fixed the spring, the motor fried. Proceeded to charge me for the work($350 for 30 mins of labor) even though the garage door now needed a new motor. Technition reported the motor as broken when he arrived. Only thing American Overhead Doors was worried about was scheduling my next service call to pay for a new overpriced motor. read more

Second time using AOD. Although very pricey...they came quick and did the job well. On my recent appointment...the technician helped himself to an expensive item in my garage. I am one hundred percent certain the item was in there prior to the service. Since they were late...I had to leave the technician alone and go to work. I reported the issue hoping that the tech 'accidentally' took my item. I received a call back saying they called him and the tech never saw the item. That was that. Nothing further. I wasn't expecting the tech to admit it nor AOD to resolve the matter and return my stolen item. I did expect them to give a f*ck...which they did not. There are plenty of door companies out there...find one that doesn't help themselves to your stuff. read more

DO NOT, they were consistently late, and almost an hour late for the scheduled appointment. I know their prices are way over charged. The first guy showed up @ 1:55pm in a 12-2 window, he immediately went in trying to explained the need for new rollers and tracks (over charging for unnecessary work) when it was just a simple opener change out...and on 2nd appinotment to perform the simple task, he showed up at 2:45p in the 12-2 window. Please shop around before using this business... these workers are milking time from the company and their customers!! read more

We had an excellent experience with this company, and I recommend them to anyone who demands perfection, like I do. Jack, the gentleman who came out to do the job, was punctual, friendly and proficient. The quality of the wood garage door for the price was excellent. The track and roller system of the door is so feather-weight, even my 6-year old son can open it effortlessly (we opted for manual). We worked with Todd and discussed aesthetics when matching a new garage door to our adjacent 200-year old home. He listened, he communicated every step of the way, and both he and Jack truly went above and beyond in making sure that we were not just satisfied customers, but extremely happy with the work. read more

I ordered a custom Cedar Door for $9,000. I selected the door design from the Clopay website. Design 1, which reflected an even panel/square design. I put a 50% deposit down for the door to be built. After a 3 months wait the door arrived. To my disappointment, the panels were NOT cut even, as the middle panels are smaller than the bottom panels. I'm not happy with the uneven look. I was never made aware of the changes. After the fact, I'm told by American Overhead Door too bad. I tried to stop the install, I told the installer to stop until we figure things out. He told me no, it's his job to finish! I tried to get my husband home for help! The owner of American Doors, never came to my house or called me on the phone to find out what happened, instead he sent me letters from an Attorney, threatening to pay balance or lien on the house. I highly recommend NOT to order a Clopay custom door from American Overhead, because if something goes wrong, which happens, they don't care, and they will not try and correct. Instead, they threaten you. I've owned homes for 30 years, I've hired many contractors and I have NEVER had a contractor so bad as American Overhead Doors. read more

Per doc~the vendor is AOD retail division, the parent company is American forehead door Co, same address as AOD in google map,then 4 days letter I received a wrong item Genie GT 3 by mail,the item is used ,no any documentation，no any instruction and not working with my garage door，the item in sears store price @$28.94 only，I had tried to return and get refund  from sears.com，it rejected my request and stated it is not refundable unless I return the item to the AOD retial devision directly, II had tried to call the them several time,the vendor AOD retail division(address -1885 south main  Middletown CT 06457)does not answer phone ，the toll free # is 1800123567,fake#? very frustrated ，hours was wasted the issue still not resolve.Now I still wating for them to email me the return slip, I need to have the return slip to mail back the item to get refun,after 3 days, I got no answer from them,be careful when you make order on line. read more
