I had to replace my cellar door and cellar windows because they were original with the house and just old and not in good shape. I had Gibson recommended to me and while they weren't the cheapest they had the best solution and the other places had mediocre reviews. The work was completed last week and I'm happy. They had to replace the top step of concrete as well as the door. It rained heavily all Memorial Day weekend and no leaking. The windows came out good too. My only complaint was the length of time it took from booking the job to completion (2.5 months). Overall they did a good job and I would recommend using them. read more

I am exceptionally happy with the work of Gibson Cellar Door and Window. I needed a new hatchway door, basement door, and basement windows. I was quite pleased that they agreed to install the glass block windows that I wanted - other companies wouldn't. Unfortunately there were delays caused by COVID, but they installed the windows and hatchway door while waiting for the interior basement door to be delivered. Once the interior door arrived, it was installed despite the snowstorm the night before - I was expecting them to reschedule. They went above and beyond to get the interior door installed, and did a fantastic job. I would definitely recommend them and use them again. We had Gibson Cellar Door out to our house today to replace a hatchway door that was 115 yrs old! Needless to say, a paper bag would of been better to cover this hatchway! But the two gentlemen who arrived were professional, friendly & passionate about making us happy. The metal door we chose was perfectly fit and they took such pride in their work. I signed a contract Sept 2021 with Gibson Cellar Door & Window of Kensington CT to replace the basement cellar hatchway door with a new Gordon door. The work was done on Nov. 10, 2021 at a cost of $2,375. After the work was done I was not able close the top door without going outside and standing on it because it was too tight over the bottom door. It was also letting water in. Dennis came out May 2022 and said something about the concrete needing to be shaved down in order for the door to close correctly. That was not the problem. He said he would have to come back to fix it because he didn't have the correct tools. He did not return until I called him again July 6, 2022. He returned with another guy and they readjusted the top door so it could be closed without standing on it. Over the next three weeks I noticed the steps were wet still and used my phone to video where the water was coming it. I called them again August 3 and they came to look at the door and video August 5. Dennis said it needed a rubber gasket to keep the rain out but he didn't have one and said he would need to come back. I waited another month for him to return and he didn't. I called again September 1 and left a message about the needed fix. I scheduled him two more times and he didn't show up or call me to reschedule. I called again and he came one day when I wasn't home and replaced the gasket. It rained again September 15, 2022 and water was still getting it. I called Gibson Cellar Door 9/23/2022 and 10/3/2022 and never received a return call or visit from them. So now my cellar door has a permanent tarp over it to keep the stairs dry. I had to get this fixed and decided to try and find either a Gordon Door manufacturer or distributor of the door that was installed. I found one in Bristol called Basement Door Store. They said there is something called a rain guard made by Gordon that is used to drain the water away from the top of the door so it doesn't seep into the basement. While I was at his store he called the manufacturer and they said the door guard would be given to me for free since the door always leaked. This is what the solution should have been if done correctly by Dennis at Gibson Cellar Door but they decided to ignore me instead of backing up their work. There are other companies out there that do this type of work. Stay away from Gibson Cellar Door. read more

After an initial miscommunication with an appointment, I am very pleased with the final results of repair and replacement of my cellar door and concrete foundation. Dennis' prices were fair and competitive, he gave me an estimated date work would start and he delivered. Work was done in two days just as stated, and cleanup was thorough. I had representative from Gibson come on August 4, 2016 to measure four windows I wanted installed: large bedroom window, two cellar windows, and a dryer vent window. After getting estimates from three other companies, I selected Gibson and mailed check for 50% of cost on 9/3. (since the dryer vent window was expensive, I decided not go order that). This check was cashed on 9/26. I was told the windows would take 3-4 weeks. After 6 weeks I called since I had not heard from them. I was told they were still waiting. After 2 more weeks we made appt. to have windows installed. When the date came to have the windows installed, Dennis realized that the large bedroom window was measured wrong (he said it was his father who had come to do the measuring) and it did not fit. The two cellar windows were installed and I am very happy with them. Dennis said he would call his supplier to find out about a correct size window. He also said that since I had waited so long, he would also give me the dryer vent window for free. In addition, he said that if it was impossible for him to install a bedroom window, I would obviously get back the money I already paid for it.None of that has happened. Whenever I call the office, I get told that Dennis will call right back. I have not heard from him since the fall. The last time I called, January 6, 2017, at 3:27 p.m., I told the woman answering the phone that if I did not hear from Dennis that day, I would have to take other steps. She assured me he would call back that jday. I HAVE STILL HEARD NOTHING...HAVE RECEIVED NO MONEY...HAVE RECEIVED NO FREE DRYER VENT WINDOW AS PROMISED. In addition to this warning to all other customers, I will be notifying the Better Business Bureau. .It is a shame because the cellar windows were installed quite professionally and if that was my only order, I would have given two more stars. read more
