I brought it back to the counter, two of the guys looked at it and said that it was supposed to be that way. I thought different, l've never had a pizza that looked that way. DO NOT bother signing up for the VIP program. The redemption never seems to get on the order even though the VIP profile shows it redeemed. I show the redemption to the man who filled my order and he said he would take care of it next time. I'll update my review if he does, but I'm reasonably sure that was a brush off. Although I have had one good experience with this place it took 3 to decide never to get food here again. I was on hold for over 5 minutes why I didn't hang up is a good question. Then the food was delivered over 1:15 mins later. I was originally told 45 on the phone. Finally it came and after the deliver guy leaves I open the box to find the pizza crust on one side and the toppings on the other side of the box. Making this worse all the crust was mush so I couldn't just pile it back together and move on with life. I didn't bother to call and complain because I simply will not be getting food here again. As I stated I had one good experience in which I picked up a steak and cheese sub and it was good. I have also picked up a sub that was kind of disgusting and didn't eat more then half before giving up. Stay away if you can, if not check your deliveries before the guy leaves. Do not order! Especially for delivery. The food is alright, basic pizza place food. The potato's skins are weird just potato's cut in half with cheese and bacon. The pizza is greasy but ok if you ask for it well done. The salads are pretty gross. My biggest issue is they are the only place who delivers to my home in Middleboro, every time we order delivery our order is messed up. A couple times they brought us the missing items. Today however they told us to come pick it up. If I order and pay for delivery then why would I want to or have the means to go pick food up. So since I was not going to pack my kids up and drag them out at 7pm I made them food at home, after paying for dinner. read more

American is my least favorite independent pizza/sub shop in MA. Most seem to be roughly the same with only Greek vs. Italian difference in selection and how the pizza is made. American is Greek (which I usually prefer), yet they are the only one I've truly disliked. I am disappointed more than half of the time - both for the food and the service. Embarrassingly, they continue to get some of my business because the location is very convenient to me. Many days I am too tired or busy to drive to Wareham center (the next nearest independent pizza place) for better food. If you are equal distance or driving by anything else in your travels; I'd recommend going to that other place. American's menu even stole pictures of CiCi's Pizza. Look at the main photo on the menu, and you'll notice CiCi's logo in the window lol. The pizza is OK while hot. At most places, I order enough for pizza the next day, but something about their pizza makes for really bad reheated or cold pizza. Their pizza is the only one I throw away when it gets cold. They seem to use low-quality ingredients in most of their subs and pizza, which may be the reason. On the other hand; one thing that always seems tasty is the fried chicken - as strips or in a sub or salad. Their pita bread is also good (thick and fresh), but their garlic bread is very skimpy and stale. The fried haddock is pretty good for a pizza place as well. Overall it is just sub-par food in a category of food I usually find to be a treat. There is nothing good to say about the service. It's one of those places where you are made to feel like an inconvenience for ordering or picking up food. Your satisfaction with service or food is not a priority. There is no close competition, so they will keep getting business. They seem to be very aware of this. You need to know the menu very well, because they will ask if you'd like something made a certain way and charge you extra with no mention of additional charges. If you order the pasta dishes, know that an $8.99 dish can easily cost $15 when you pick it up if you don't fully understand the person on the phone (which is often the case). Do you want it baked? What kind of meat do you want in your meat lasagna? It sounds like these are options, but they are add-ons. $2 to bake it, a few dollars for ground sausage... ends up costing more than sitting down at a nice restaurant.. However, the accidental $15 version of their lasagna is tasty. The $9 version is not. read more

Pizza was ok. We had two slices. My mom had a veal sub that had two slices of cheese and a cold, not even toasted sub roll. We were fine with the food bc we wanted something quick as we were in a rush. However, worst part was the counter lady. She did not say hello. We said "hi how are you" to which she didn't say a word. Took our order and we tipped her $1.50. She did not say thank you or even recognize that we tipped...she never once said thank you or your welcome when we asked for things. The big question: Is it better than Marcs? I ask: Why compare? Why not just enjoy both? The are across town from each other and they each have good to offer. Less than a quarter mile from my house, i frequent this place so i know all the ins and outs. Dont bother getting anything but pizza (and the occasional sub) I get the BBQ chicken pizza with red onion and have them add bacon. Get a side of bleu cheese and get it to go because the atmosphere sucks and you really dont wanna see anyone you know. Dont forget to get the romano cheese and pile it on the pizza....thats really the best part. They said they import it from Italy and grate it fresh daily and it tastes like they are telling the truth man. RED FLAG: When you call in to order, you might get someone with a foreign accent and they will be very difficult to understand. You might get frustrated and just start saying "yes" while they are repeating your order even if you dont know what they are saying. Ordered a Cheese Lover's pizza which is supposed to be a blend of 5 cheeses. Apparently an acceptable cheese is Velveeta or Cheez Whiz or something with a very bright color and gooey texture. Stopped by around 3:00 pm yesterday for a late lunch. I got a steak tip sub with mushrooms, onion and peppers with cheese. My wife got a steak bomb. We were the only ones in the place other than the 4 workers. My tips were over cooked and the vegetables were under cooked. The cheese was not melted and the roll wasn't toasted. Maybe I should have asked for the roll to be toasted but the menu called it a grinder and I thought that was sop. My wife hated her steak bomb and said there were hardly any vegetables on it and what was there tasted almost raw. I used the bathroom and it was a mess, the trash was overflowing and there were shredded paper products all over the floor that looked like they had been there a while. It felt dirty and disgusting. As I sat down my wife said look at the floor in this place, does anyone sweep or mop it ever. I looked up and observed two of the 4 workers texting or playing on there phones. I wanted to say to them how about any of you cleaning this place instead of texting. I was pretty sure that one of the people present was the owner as everyone was older and it looked like a family type run restaurant. Honestly I would never eat there again because I once read that you can always tell how clean a restaurant is by the condition of its bathroom. When I cashed in my "reward" they made me feel like I was stealing from them. Asked me to print it out, even though it was sent thru a text. I printed it out per asked. Face it, it's a pizza joint. The place itself is pretty typical. Rating a pizza place on its ambiance, though, isnt generally helpful though. The pizza is really what matters- but that was actually pretty mediocre too. Nothing bad, exactly, but nothing especially great, either. Their prices are unremarkable, and the best item that I've tried is actually their steak sub. I've been a faithful customer of American Pizza for about three years settling for sub par food because it was convenient and one of only places to deliver to my house. Had my last experience there today and would recommend anyone to drive the extra few miles to another pizza shop. Went there to pick up an order after work and here are the reasons for my generous 1 star rating. First, the bathrooms were filthy and the cook was sweeping what looked like a weeks worth of dust off the floor. I ordered a tuna salad and overpaid the $10 for it because I was hungry and didn't want to cook after a long days work. The tuna was inedible and soured. I called to make them aware of the issue and they offered me nothing more than I will let the cook know. Now keep in mind they have a loyalty program attached to my phone number so they would be able to see I have spent several hundred if not thousands of dollars there over the years. They could of at least offered a different meal or coupon for future purchase. But nothing. Again stay away from this place unless you want over priced soured food. Drive the extra few miles to Wareham House of Pizza or Santoros. read more

Last night was my first and last visit here. There was an extensive menu, but we settled on an old stand-by, something we figured you can't screw up. We were wrong. We ordered a "large roast beef sub" for dining in. The person who took our order had zero personality, and could barely muster the energy to engage us in light-hearted conversation. And he didn't ask/offer if we wanted the bread toasted. My friend and I got a table at the front by the window, waited and the sub arrived soon after. The order was for a large roast beef sub, provolone cheese, tomatoes, peppers, onions, and extra mayonnaise. We received a large very doughy sub roll, two slices of American cheese, a small amount of mayonnaise - by no reasonable person's standards could it be considered "extra", and TWO pathetic slices of nearly raw "roast beef". At $7.99 this was hardly a value for my money, and, if anything, the quality and presentation was insulting to me. VERY DISAPPOINTING! DO yourself a favor, AVOID this place at all costs. I cannot speak for the rest of the menu, nor to the personalities of other employees, but based on this singular experience, my recommendation is 1-star. If I could give less I would. I am on or near the Cape for business or pleasure often, and know a lot of people in the area. I will never go there again, and will never recommend anyone to them. In the same strip mall is a Dunkin' Donuts, and while I am not a fan of DD's menu offerings in general, a week old donut is more appetizing than this sub was. read more

Was going to Santoros for long time. Then they switched their cheeses to what looked like plastic after it got warm. Switched to Rose And Vickis down the street. Sauce somewhat bland, and bit pricy for just Pizza. Switched then to Nick's in Mattapoisett. Lasagna was awesome. Pizza bottoms always burned. Ordered two oven grinders and they were also burned on the bottoms to point of not being able to chew thru it. Their large Pizza about the size of most shops medium...... Discovered American Pizza & Grill. Further past where we live. Pizza reminds me of the old New York Syle Pizza. They sell by the slice ( HUGE ) and the menu there is very broad. The voice on the phone (friendly, which is why they got two stars) knew our neighborhood, and told us 35 to 45 minutes. Great! The pizza arrived an hour and fifteen minutes later. Cold. I was surprised by the lack of flavor. Even salt and pepper didn't help. I pulled back the cheese, and found almost no tomato sauce whatsoever. I have given them a few chances, and have been disappointed. I will not be tempted again. Try Plane Janes at the Plymouth airport for consistently good pizza. Their peta pockets are made in house and are one of the most amazing peta pocket I've encountered! Great pizza, the crust is thin and crispy. If you like it that way, this is your place. I can't spea kto their delivery service, I always pick up- but they are quick and courteous.
