Gateway Tavern is one of those restaurants that never disappoints. The menu is absolutely massive, with something for everyone, making it a great choice whether you're dining with picky eaters or a large group with different tastes. The portions are unbelievably generous, and every meal we've ordered has arrived piping hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. You truly get exceptional value for your money here. I attached a few photos from our dinner last night because the presentation and portion sizes deserve to be seen! The first dish is the Spicy Asian Beef & Broccoli, which was bursting with flavor and cooked perfectly. The second and third photos are of the Cape Cod Reuben--seriously, just look at the size of that piece of fish! It was massive, flaky, perfectly cooked, and incredibly delicious. The fourth photo is the Native Honey Scallops, made with large sea scallops--not the tiny bay scallops--and they were tender, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. Every dish we tried exceeded our expectations, and it's easy to see why this has become one of our favorite places to eat. The staff is another reason we'll keep coming back. The servers are always friendly, attentive, and accommodating, making sure everyone at the table has what they need without ever feeling rushed. Had a great salad with seared scallops. Lots of fresh sweet scallops. Bartenders and waitresses are all friendly and responsive. Love going with the grandkids who love the kids menu. Cannot beat the half priced appetizers between 3 and 5. One of the few restaurants with a great bourbon selection including Eagle Rare. read more

My wife and I were out and about wanted to try someplace new while visiting the Cape Cod area. The gateway Tavern had reasonable reviews in Yelp. We chose to sit at the bar as we always do as we enjoy the kabitzing with others, including the bartender. This time, however the bartender did not want much interaction. When I asked for a local IPA, she really couldn't tell me. I also asked her opinion on a couple other dishes and she said some people like one and some people like the other. I can understand employees not wanting to go on the limb for a recommendation, but this seemed to go beyond that. The clam chowder and chicken noodle soup were both pedestrian at Best. The grilled salmon did have a good flavor with the salad. We will not be back. read more

We live this restaurant and miss it since moving about 49 minutes away. We met friends from the Cape there as it was a convenient location. The menu is vast and surprisingly, they do everything well. There are always great daily specials. The sunset views from the deck are amazing! read more

The family and I really enjoy this place! The service is always great as the staff is very attentive and pretty quick even on the busy days. The clam chowder is one of our favorites for sure and we even made a little tradition out of their smash burger Mondays (which are delicious and such a great deal). I love that the menu here is huge (there truly is an option for everyone) even though it makes choosing something hard! Food service and ambiance is awesome! I haven't used enough characters to satisfy what I need.

We've been going here since 2008 since they are only 2 miles from my house. At first, they were consistently a 4* rating, but over time, the prices went up and the quality went down, giving them a consistent 3* rating. We still go back about once every 6 months because of the location. A few nights ago we went back and were very surprised at how much better things were. I don't know if it was an accident or a trend. The prices seem about the same, but the quality and quantity of the food was much better. Service was also top grade, but that may have been because our waitress was in training and was super focused on getting everything perfect. I ordered the Bourbon Steak Tips. In the past they consisted of uneven chunks of varying inconsistent doneness. This time, there were 4 large pieces, each cooked perfectly. In total, there was close to a pound of meat. The broccoli was cooked perfectly, but was not served as warm as it should have been. The chunky mashed potatoes were done very well and was an especially large portion. There was enough meat and potatoes left over to take home for and additional meal. My wife had Sesame Seared Tuna which she rated an overall 4*. They have wonderful bread served with garlic oil, but you have to ask for it. In the past, glasses of red wine tasted like they had been sitting around for at least a day with no preservation. To avoid that, we ordered the daily wine special for $8/glass. The wine was fresh and good and a larger then expected portion size. I had given good ratings in the past to the Strawberry Shortcake, but I just didn't have room to try it again. This experience came close to making 5*s, and we will be going back in the not to distant future to see if The Gateway will regain its ranking as one of our regulars. read more

Arrived after leaving the Cape and were very happy with the meals and staff. We plan on returning when in the area. Great place, nice view of the marsh. Very happy. Your mac and cheese is excellent. We had to bring some home. The next day I added an egg and bread crumbs and made mac and cheese patties. Ordered the Baked Rangoon stuffed Haddock which was so good. My sides...well not so good. I ordered mashed potatoes and broccoli. The potatoes came out warm (on cool side) and the broccoli could have been cooked more to my liking. I mentioned to the waitress that the potatoes needed to be heated more. She said she would get a fresh serving, which she did, but they weren't any warmer-thus the 4 star rating. I didn't address the broccoli because it still was ok. We sat at a booth but would have preferred the bar or the deck but that but both areas were packed and we didn't want to wait. The deck area overlooks the marsh and has a nice view. read more

We decided to stop in this place for lunch. We sat in the outside area with a view of somebody of water. The food was delicious and the service was friendly. The inside of the restaurant had an odd smell to it, but it didn't really affect us because we ate outside. I would recommend the outdoor dining for this place. read more

Been coming here for quite some time. The staff is great, friendly and attentive. The food, however; is something else. This last time I ordered the pastrami Rueben and it was awful. Greasy, and the pastrami tasted weird; Like it was old. The French fries tasted strange too. I could taste the plastic they may have been contained. I am posting this as I sit here. I will be sending the Rueben back but I will be sure to tip the waitress her deserved amount. Oh well....Can't win 'em all. read more

Husband and I moved here a few weeks ago and have been to Gateway a few times now. The food has been consistently pretty good. The menu is large and there are plenty of specials to try out. The appetizers have been very good: we love comfort food so the nachos really hit the spot. The service has been good for the most part. On busier nights it's a bit slower but this is to be expected. Everyone has been very friendly and nice. Gateway definitely has a fun atmosphere, it can be a bit loud but never to the point of being unbearable. read more

Not a good experience. Web site says dog friendly. I followed up with a phone call and was told it is dog friendly but seating would be the front porch. I arrived and was told it was not dog friendly but they would accommodate us. Food was okay, service was absolutely horrible. Waited a half hour for the check and finally had to call the restaurant and ask them if they could give us our check. Shortly after I believe the bartender flew out, slapped the check on the table and muttered sorry. Won't be back. The husband wanted fried whole clam bellies because he's a born and raised Bostonian living in Charleston where such delicacies are not available (the waters are too warm.) The day after Labor Day has so many restaurants closed for the season, or not open until Thursday. The Gateway Tavern is a great find, with the clams done well, served with french fries and coleslaw. So many clams the sides were not touched. Their market price was about $7 below competing restaurants. The parmesan encrusted salmon served with zucchini and yellow squash plus a to die for rice pilaf, incredible. Cute tavern with comfy booths and lots & lots of options. The drink menu was extensive. We all decided on margaritas and they were very good. I liked the strawberry basil margarita, but the basil taste was not there. There were a few basil leaves in the glass, but they weren't muddled. Clam chowder was a great consistency, but did need some extra salt. Afterwards, we loved it! For entrees we ordered the CBC (chicken bacon cheese) sandwich and the lobster & avocado salad. I was impressed by how much lobster they put on the salad, but it needed salt as well. For $25, I was happy with the salad. The sandwich was also good. It was crispy and flavorful. The fries were good also. We were seated quickly, but service was not super impressive. She was nice, but we sat without silverware for a few minutes after our food was delivered. We also had dirty plates from our apps sitting on the table for the whole meal. Overall, we enjoyed the food and will be back. It is definitely a strong choice! read more

Wow! Have things gone down. My wife and I went there for lunch today and were very disappointed compared to our previous visits. As we entered there were three people waiting at the Hostess station and NO Hostess. WE noticed an employee look right at everyone waiting and instead of saying something like "someone will be right with you", she walked right by us and didn't say anything. When we finally got seated and ordered our meals in which my wife had to remind our waitress that we ordered a bowl of Clam Chowder. She seemed stunned that she forgot to get the appetizer then promptly brought out a cup (not bowl) of luke-warm chowder. My wife got the Salmon, which she said was good, and I got the Fish and Chips, which the fries came out cold. We also ordered two soda's and were CHARGED for refill's, I understand the cost of food is sky rocketing, but what does a refill of soda cost (?), I'm sure less that the 2.99 they charge. Finally we received the bill for TWO (2) of us and found that a 20% tip had already been added to the bill. WE did NOT receive service worthy of a 20% tip.In fact my wife overheard the waitress saying she was "overwhelmed" even though it was NOT busy. One last thing, the Hostess that was M.I.A. was located talking to the waitstaff near the back service station fanning herself with a menu. After a hot day on buzzard bay a refreshing martini or spicy mango margarita is exactly what we needed! We started off with cow boy bites, perfectly fried, just enough spice and creamy on the inside! For dinner we shared the shrimp and little necks a la vodka, it was so fresh and savory! The fish tacos had just the right crunch while still soft and fresh, topped with all the fixings! The lobster ravioli was creamy but lacking flavor. Our favorites were the Shrimp and Littlenecks a La Vodka and the cucumber martini!
